Interested in other people's suggestions for a good feature

Hi, I'm Kerstin and I'm 2 years old. I li've in Cebu, Philippines, but I'm Swedish (originally from the wonderful city of Uppsala). I'm in the second term of my filmmaking degree at the International Academy of Film and Television[url="http://www.filmschool.ph">(IAFT)[/url]. Busy researching for my screen writing class. I'm interested in other peoples suggestions for a good feature. Always good to get together with like-minded folk.

Hi Kerstin,
I also have some folks and friends back there and the place is great.Looking for a good feature?Hmmm...you could try the local folktale/s in there,I've heard a lot of it from old grandmas but dont know if it is true or not. It will be an exciting (scary?) one.

  • Suggestion for a good button theme

    Hey,
Looking for a suggestion for a good button. I do not have access to Photoshop and all I am using is the ones that can with Studio Pro. It is just a plan white square. This is a Christian family movie so something more to the point of the theme might work.
    Any ideas?

  • Suggestion for a Good Book

    Hi,
Could someone suggest me a good book covering core java security (not J2EE)?. I'm looking for a book that covers all security related APIs that are part of Java 2 SDK 1.3.x + JSSE + JCE + JAAS or Java 2 SDK 1.4.x.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've a book called "Professional Java Security",
by Jess Garms and Daneil Somerfield, published by Wrox press.
I've used it to dip my toes into the Java Cryptography extension, and
it was very good. I got a TripleDES encryption utility working reasonably easy.
Also covers JCA, JCE, JAAS, JSSE, SSL and E-Commerce.
    regards,
    Owen

  • Where can i make a suggestion for a mail feature on a future update?

I was looking for somewhere to make a suggestion for a future mail feature on the iphone, but couldn't find a place to do it.
It would be useful to be able to set mail fetching as manual in the evening and timed during the working day so my evenings aren't disturbed by work emails.
What do you reckon Apple? A feature for the next iOS update?

You are not addressing Apple here.
You can turn off the mail notification sound each night if you like.

  • OT: Suggestions for a good Christmas green?

Way off-topic I know, but 'tis the season. :-)
I'm trying to figure a good Christmas green and am stuck in the hell of inaccurate screen representations (of course) and a crappy printer (two crappy printers actually -- one that prints way too dark and one that prints way too light).
Any suggestions on a CMYK value for a good Christmas green when I go to press?
    Thanks, Phyllis

    Hi Phyllis!
I am a print production manager, and find the following three mixes failsafe:
    95c 0m 100y 27k
    100c 0m 91y 42k
    100c 0m 95y 10k
They're all a little different in hue, but fall within that "holiday" green which should work well with reds.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    -Mikey

  • Suggestions for a good intermediate format for HDV?

If I read in video from my Sony HDV camcorder (at "Full" size), it is converted from the original HDV format to the AIC format. I'm finding that AIC files sizes are about 45 GB/hour, so 11 tapes will fill a 500 GB drive. This file size is really too big to be very practical, so I'm looking for another intermediate codec that will yield smaller file sizes.
I used QT Pro to convert an AIC test clip to the h.264 format. Here's what I have found so far. I set the Quality slider halfway between "medium" and "high". The resulting clip was very close in quality to the original AIC. There were some subtle differences in areas of low contrast, but it would be difficult to say which was "better". So as far as quality goes, this setting seems good. (Using the medium setting resulted in video that was clearly worse than the original, although not bad by any means.) The file size corresponded to 10.7 GB/h, or about 4X smaller than the original AIC.
However, using this h.264 clip in iMovie 08 was hopeless: Any action on the clip lead to the spinning cursor for a few seconds, and the skimming was hopelessly jerky and slow. The reason, I found, was that QT was inserting only occasional keyframes (I had Keyframes every... set to Automatic; not sure how often this will put in a keyframe, but I understand that in HDV it's every 15 frames), so that this h.264 clip was really no more editable than raw HDV would have been. So I started experimenting with how often the keyframes are put in and found the following:
    <pre>_Keyframe every: GB/h Skimming quality_
Every frame 24.3 Good; not as smooth as 960 V 540, but acceptable
Every 2 19.0 Useable but a little jerky
Every 8 14.7 (like HDV) Pretty jerky. Usable, but would not be fun to use
    Every 15(?) 10.7 Hopeless.
    </pre>
My question, then, is whether there's some other scheme of compressing the AIC files to another format that iMovie 08 can use, while keeping the image quality high and allowing for smooth scrubbing. (Using keyframes every frame is not a bad choice, since it does reduce the file size by nearly a factor of two. But is there something even better?)
I should add that the compression takes roughly 8 hours for a 1 hour AIC file. This would be OK with me, since I can just run it over night. (MacBook Pro @ 2.2 GHz)

Dan, there has been alot of discussion over this over the past 24 hours. I read the threads and try to decide based on the opinions of all of us. Gosh, amongst us all, we could author a fanatastic "how to" and "what works" book. I know you are anxious about what to do that is best, but honestly the best advice I can give you is just read the threads and see what viewers rate. I have my opinions, but shucks, that is only based on my short term experience, and I am still learning everyday from other postings. Go for the reading and then take alook. Be advised though, the stores are not up in stock compared to the websites. Good luck!

  • Suggestion for a new feature

There are some members of this community (Templeton Peck, for example) who spend a considerable amount of time scouring the forum for off-topic posts and offering guidance as to more appropriate venues to post questions and find information, usually including links to third-party forums and other useful information. While I really appreciate the service these people provide, others often misconstrue their intentions. Sometimes the only thanks they get are accusations of List Mommery.
I'd like to suggest that Apple add a feature to the forum software to provide the same kind of service in a more systematic way. Since posts are already parsed to identify "bad words" and replace them with "xxxx," this could also be used to identify posts about third-party products, and when a post appears to pertain to one of those products, the response page could contain a notice that says something like the following:
We noticed that your post appears to reference [name of third-party product]. If you are indeed experiencing problems with this product, you might find the following of interest: [links to forums and other information resources provided by the vendor and/or independent discussions on Yahoo, etc.]
The list of links and resources could be provided by users like us through a Third Party Products topic in the forums so users can, hopefully, find them before they post questions here that would be more appropriately addressed by those other forums or knowledge bases. This topic would be for posting resources only, not discussing problems, so it would have to be heavily moderated.
    Thoughts?

    Hi David
This ... (proposed)... topic would be for posting resources only ...
This is already available through the search facilities of any browser. I have answered the odd query by doing just that.
Apple Discussions does not have to be a one-stop shop.
And would people use it as you plan, given the number of hardware and software queries that are posted here, ( but then, as there are an unusually high number of 'off forum' postings posted here I think most of them are intentionally mischievous.)

    Thanks in advance.

These fourms are focused on developer issues, you will find that Novell has a

  • Need suggestion for a good scanner/inkjet photo printer

I would like to be able to scan in photos to edit and also print photos.
Most of all, I want the ability to print two-sided (manual or automatic).
Of course, I'd also like it to print decent photos as well.
Any suggestions? (It seems the Mac software for certain printers isn't as good as the Windows version of the printer software)

Epson, Canon, Kodak are all good printers. they all have their own good software that will satisfy most requirements.
I did not mention HP because of their inadequate support and the unbelievable number of printer types (models) they have on the market that are not supported.
Your biggest problems are going to be:
    1 Compatibility with Leopard.
    2. Meaningful support from vendor.
    3. Cost of Ink refills.
All three items above, especially Items 2 and 3 made me lean toward Kodak.
    look at them

There's lot's to like in the new Preview app, but I'd like a few more things:
    1. Ability to edit and reorder Tables of Contents.
    2. Ability to reorder Bookmarks (and to hierarchically group them)
    3. Sensible control over formatting of links.

    Exactly!
If Apple was not interested in feedback for improving products, then the feedback pages make no sense whatsoever. If you think they're just for bug reporting, then why isn't the page titled "Product Bug Reports," and why are four of the seven items in the Feedback Type not in any way bug related?

  • Suggestion for small photo feature

I just got myself a nano and I think that the thumbnails of my photo albums on the iPod is a neat feature.
One thing is that while the display isn't any bigger, I think it is a waste to use space on a black background when viewing a picture that is taller than it is wide.
It is quite easy to turn the iPod 90 degrees while viewing the images, so a really neat feature (in my oppinion) would be an option in iTunes to turn the thumbnails of all images that are taller than they are wide 90 degrees before putting them on the iPod!
    Sincerely,
    /morten

    Hi David,
Thanks for your suggestion, but my point is that I would like to have them turned properly in My Documents.
By default all photos in "My Documents" are copied to the iPod. This is very convenient for many, since this is where they keep their photo albums.
From you photo album you would of course like to have your pictures rotated so that up is up.
On your iPod, however, it is not so important how you need to turn the iPod (for me at least).
What is important (still for me) is that you only have 176 x 132 pixels to display your thumbnail. If the image is transferred 'standing up' you will only be using 132 x 99 pixels and thus I would prefer to have all images be rotated on the iPod, but not on the PC.
The convenience of having iTunes copying the images automatically from the photo album disappears if you have to maintain a separate copy of your photoalbum targeted specifically for the iPod.
    Does this make sense?
    Sincerely yours,
    /morten

  • Suggestions for a good ExHD?

    Hi,
I was thinking about getting WD MyBook ExHD (Premium Edition - 500 GB, Duel interface). However, I've been reading user's opinions about the MyBook and they're mixed to say the least. Opinions? Suggestions of the other good ExHD companies?

iBook G4, Mac Mini w/ Core Duo soon   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Mike's advice is good. I have put together several external drive myself using combo enclosures (USB2 and Firewire ports) and large good warranty drives (Hitachi = 3yrs, Seagate = 5yrs; Maxtor only offers one year) for a lot less than many prepacked drives. Although you often see decent deals on ready made external drives, but you often also do not know what drive is inside them.
The last external enclosure I purchased was this one...
    http://tinyurl.com/ncgbg
which is a combo enclosure and for $32 (shipped) is a good deal. I also verified that when attached via Firewire, it is a bootable enclosure on my eMac.
Then put in whatever good deal you find on a parallel internal drive in the size you want.

  • Suggestions For a Good Scanning Program:

I would like to be able to scan multi-page documents into one scan.  Now, when I scan multi-page documents, the scan results in separate pages.  The scanner at work scans documents with several pages into one scan, and all of the pages can be viewed when the scan is opened. Having one scan for several pages makes it easier to send the document(s) as e-mail attachments. Is there a way to do this?

    Hi Referee06,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I do have a few more suggestions that we can try.
If you have a firewall or anti virus protection running, try disabling them and reboot the computer.  Once the computer is back on, attempt to use the Solution Center again.
If you are still having issues, try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Let me know if you see any error codes or messages.
    Thanks again for your time.
