  • New to SAP PLM ( I need advice pls)

    Hi,
I will appreciate some advice please.
I'm interested in SAP and plan to gain certification in SAP PLM (Project Management Modules), but I've not got any SAP experience. I've got under 3yrs experience in Project Administrator, Support and Coordinator type roles, got my Certification in PRINCE 2 Practitioner level, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Practitioner level, PPSO and ITIL foundation level.
Where will you advice I place myself looking for a SAP role, Iu2019m not looking to get a consultancy type role or anything like that, just something that will get me into the SAP career path with my project background.
Also is SAP PLM the best or only focus for me given my Project background?
Finally, any advice on companies that will consider someone with my profile?
    Thanks,
    Fumi

    Hi Fumi
Here PLM stands for Product Lifecycle Management. Forum is to discuss and get solution on the problems faced while implementation.
Sorry forum members may not answer for the subject

  • PLM and ECC 6.0

    Hi
Can we get all functionality of SAP PLM in ECC6.0 or we have to install c project, c folder etc in standard package to get access. Any specific settings or prerequisites are there. If yes how to get those components.
Your useful comments will be appreciated and must be helpful for others interested to work on PLM.
    Zinni

My intention is after installing the SAP ECC 6.0 in my PC, I can start practicing, as no good institutes are available in India for PLM training. So I have to ask the person who will install ECC 6.0 for other required componets, as explained by you people, to accomadate enabling me to get smooth practicing.
However yours answer is very useful . Anything in this regard will definitely helpful for me to start practicing of my own.I am sure lot more aspirants will be interested to know the procedures and how we can install different components. Service market place speaks lot of helpful links, but  seems to be complicated.
    Points awarded.

  • Oracle APC (PLM) Security Issue in Item Catalog

Hi Forum Experts, that have knowledge of Oracle Advanced Product Catalog!
This is my first post, so will be interesting for me.
We are using Oracle EBS 11.5.10 PLM-E
I have a requirement for our Trade Compliance users to have access to only update my new PLM Attribute page "Trade Compliance". I do not wish them to update operational attributes.
I can restrict the Item Catalog (Item Tab) so most operational attribute pages do not appear.
And my new Trade Compliance page does display and allow updates fine.
However I cannt figure out how to stop the "Overview", "Descriptive Attributes", and "Classification and Categories" from displaying and being open to update. I have not found a way to use Role Privileges to control this.
    Thanks Mike

    Hi!
APC is just another module in EBS - similar to Inventory. It does use mtl_system_items_b, ego_process_pub etc. It has its own objects to but they all reside in the EBS database and are part of apps. It also has its own APIs. But it is not a separate piece of software.
Since your software can use EBS apis, I see no reason why you can't integrate with APC.mtl_system_items_b is also used by Inventory (table in the inv schema), right?
What is ego_process_pub? Is this a package like EGO_ITEM_PUB? I could not find it!
    It has its own objects:
This means that if I create an item using the form "Master Items" or "Organization Items" in Oracle EBS, it is not created for APC but only for INV? Are there really different "items and tables" for items in the EBS?
It also has its own APIs:
Do you know an example for that? EGO_ITEM_PUB.PROCESS_ITEM creates items in mtl_system_items_b (which I still consider as inv items or just items). What would be the one for "APC items"?
    Thanks a lot,
    Konrad

    Hi All,

Any sort of integration between MDM and a mySAP application such as PLM can be done one of several ways.  First, there is the tried and proven method which is to use Exchange Infrastructure as the message broker.  The trick with MDM as opposed to most of the other SAP applications is the fact that there is no native ALE, so it sort of has to be treated as a third-party software product in order to integrate using XI.  If you are interested in this method, you can check out these two weblogs which don't detail your exact secario, but will give you a better understanding of how to integrate MDM to NetWeaver apps:
    1.  Either way you go, you will need to configure the MDM syndication server, this blog I wrote should help you with that:
    /people/harrison.holland5/blog/2006/11/27/mdm-syndication
    2.  If you want to use XI as the message broker check out my other blog:
    /people/harrison.holland5/blog/2006/12/20/xi-configuration-for-mdm-integration--sample-scenario
The other methods of integrating MDM with PLM is with the two API's for MDM.  This of course being the ABAP API and the JAVA API.  Check out <a href="https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700004121872006E">THIS LINK</a> (which requires a marketplace login) which provides great documentation on the ABAP API.  It has everything you need to get started.
And of course the MDM wiki has a link for more information on the ABAP API:

  • SAP PLM

    Hi Guys
I am have working on PDM(Team center), VPM(Enovia DPM) and Catia V5 since 2 years now and I am planning to change to SAP PLM. Can any one help me Do i need to Have knowledge in any other things other then PDM, VPM to start up with SAP PLM.
If I want to take p my certification in SAP PLM where can i get it,( Do i need to contact Siemens for it or i can try with some other place)
    Your help will be Appreciated
    Pradeep

    Hi Pradeep,
1.As you have worked in PDM (Team Center), and other CAD packages, you will be knowing the Functional processes/activities involved in the PLM which is very much required to learn and give solutions in SAP PLM.
    2. As you must have worked with BOM, Documents, workflows, Organizational hierarchies, Roles & Responsibilities (Draftsmen, Junior/Assist Design Engineer, Design Engineer, Project Manager etc  etc) and their authorizations.
    3. So with these things it is very easy to learn & work with SAP PLM, if you are currently working in non-sap or any functional domain, you can join any SAP implementation company as a Trainee or Fresher and get trained on SAP
or there are many training institutes which train SAP even for 25-30K without certification. (You will get a fare idea about what SAP is )
Even SAP PLM starts with PDM Objects like, Material Master, Document Managment System, Engineering Change Managment (Versioning/Revisioning for BOM, MM, DIR), Bill of Materials, Classification System (Classes, Characteristics, Object Dependencies etc) all this are PDM Objects in SAP.
And there is Collaboration Projects, Collabortion Folders and CAD Integrations. etc these all together constitutes a SAP PLM

    Hi,
By activating PLM in ECC 6 you will get some of the features like stability studies in Quality Management.
After activating the system runs a background job and it has to be completed without errors to get the features of PLM .

  • SAP PLM Vs Other PLMs

    Hi,
Does anybody have information about the short comings which SAP PLM has vis-a-vis other PLM's?
I would be interested in getting the same.

Here below my 2 Cents of comparison between conventional PDM tools & SAP
Though conventional tools are called PLM, it's not exactly true PLM tools.  Conventional tools require sea change to be called as PLM tools.  Here are the reasons.
The true Product Lifecycle Management is nothing but, software tool which can facilitate integrations between all stakeholders (such as Product company, Suppliers, Customers etc.) within and outside the enterprise from product concept to obsolete stage.
Most of the Conventional PLM tools serve the integrations within few departments of the enterprise, such as Design & Manufacturing.
As for as SAP PLM is concern it provides the integration between all the departments, but it will not have any tight integration between CAX tools.
If SAP bridge the above gap with tight integration with Team Center Engineering, then SAP can fly.
I hope I have provided the info. rather than confusion.

  • PLM Change Management Workflow Migration?

I understand from the documentation I can migrate workflow processes that are created in oracle Workflow Builder via the .wft files (custom workflows). I'm interested to know if there is a way to migrate workflows that are created using the change management tools inside of PLM. Do these result in .wft files and if so how do I find their names?
Any help would be appreciated as we are currently configuring the workflows in each environment (dev, test, ... prod) and this is a huge waste of our time and resources.

As for Oracle Workflow is concerned, it can be saved and ported as WFT files. The workflow definitions are created ONLY using Workflow Builder and no other tool. As far as my knowledge goes, no other tool really embeds the Builder inside it or for that matter can create Workflow definitions.
Please explain what you meant by Workflows created by PLM's Change Mgmt tools.
    Thanks
    Vijay
