Interested in the Yosemite Beta?

Here’s some advice for anyone who plans to participate in the “Public Beta” of OS X 10.10, also known as Yosemite. Some of this advice applies generally to any upgrade to a major update of OS X. A few items are specific to the Yosemite beta.
1) BACK UP your entire computer, preferably more than once. If possible, at least one of your updates should be a bootable “clone”, such as those created by Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! A bootable clone will allow you to recover quickly to your old version of OS X if you decide that upgrading to Yosemite isn’t a good idea for you.
2) Read the Frequently Asked Questions page (https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/faq), several times. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask.
3) Read any other release notes that come with it, if any, several times. If there’s anything you don’t understand, ask.
4) You’re not supposed to ask questions about the beta software, even here. Per the FAQ, “don't discuss the pre-release Apple software with or demonstrate it to others who are not in the OS X Beta Program.” That means that if you have problems, except for help restoring your Mac to its pre-beta state, you’re on your own.
5) This is specific to the Yosemite beta: If you have any documents in iCloud, such as from Keynote, Numbers or Pages, make a local copy and forget about synchronizing updates between OS X and iOS until iOS 8 is released.

Yosemite Beta Program. Nothing will happen until the program begins. There is no software yet released. Once you filed to join you will not get anything from Apple until they have something to tell you.

  • Trying to install Yosemite from the Yosemite Beta but it will not download

    Hello All:
I went to the Mac App Store to upgrade to Yosemite, however because I am on the Yosemite beta, I get this message when I click on download.
OS X v10.10 is already installed on this computer. Use the Updates page to install the 10.10 update or if you would like to download the full OS X installer click Continue.
There are only two buttons on that dialog box though, one that says Learn More or OK.. no continue.
Is there a way I can download this from another source?
Thanks for your help in advance,
    Paul

I dont mean to be petty... By the way.. I didnt help you with this question either... So that wasnt the point of my comment. Or my intent to get a pat on the back... I didn't post that for praise... The praise was not mine to be had. (Even though for some reason you gave it to me)
Just nice to say thank you sometimes when people go out of their way to help you out of their good will, when they dont make a cent.
If it was just a mistake i get it.. some people make a habit of this on the forums. Just thought I would comment on it

  • I need help getting a new code for the yosemite beta because mine says it's already been used

I signed up for the yosemite beta and when I clicked the code to download the beta, nothing happened. I backed out and did it again and then it said the code was already in use. I have tried refreshing the page with the code in safari but the same one keeps coming back. I also signed out of the app store and logged back in to see if it was in my purchases and it doesn't show up. I need a little help here getting the beta.

There's a lot of results in Google when you search for this but unfortunately refreshing the page doesn't seem to generate a different code anymore. Mine also says already redeemed

  • I can't get Illustrator to work in the Yosemite Beta. Can anyone help?

    Hi there,
I can't get Illustrator to work in the Yosemite Beta. Can anyone help?
    Much appreciated,
    Jon

Thanks so much for reaching out!!!!
Here’s what I am experiencing more specifically:
    1. Illustrator is not showing up in my Application folder.
    2. My creative cloud app manager says that Illustrator is installed.
    3. I try to download it from Adobe.com and it never initiates the download.
    Does that ring any bells?
Thanks so much for your help!
    Grateful,
    Jon

  • IOS Baseband Logs and the Yosemite Beta

Does anybody know how to access iOS baseband logs on the Yosemite beta? It doesn't work with iOS 7 or 8 and syncing with iTunes isn't dumping the logs for me.

  • Has anyone tried the Yosemite beta?

Has anyone tried the Yosemite beta?  Or shall I just wait for the official version to come out?

Beta OS software should only be installed on a test machine, NEVER a primary device, and honestly only by someone with a compelling reason (testing, development).
Yes, wait for final version this fall.

  • I'm running 10.10. How do I remove OS X Yosemite Beta 4 as an update in App Store?

I'm running 10.10. How do I remove OS X Yosemite Beta 4 as an update in App Store?
    ++++++
I ran a few versions of the Yosemite Beta, but once it went public, I upgraded to the latest public version, and have continued to do so.
I'm currently running OS X 10.10 (re-confirmed by just checking About This Mac), but my App Store keeps showing me Yosemite Beta 4 as an available OX update for me to install?
How do I get this removed from my App Store upgrade tab?
    -Rick

    Hi Rick,
When you resign from the Beta program, give it some time for the system to update. I am sure, that if you check again a day later you would have been removed.
Have you removed the Feedback assistant?
    Have fun with the Mac

  • How do I cancel my OS Yosemite beta download?

I got a redemption code to download the Yosemite beta but since I can't back up my computer I have decided not to download it. My problem is that I started downloading it, it's paused but I can't seem to cancel it. How do I cancel the download completely? (I know this is in the wrong 'community' but I haven't used this site before)

Just let the download complete, don't install just save the installer for later.

  • Yosemite Beta Download currently unavailable

    Hi,
I was trying to download the Yosemite Beta. I signed up on the Appleseed platform where I received the code for the App Store In the Appstore a message occurred that service is currently not available. Within the next try it said that the code has already been used. Reloading the homepage was unsuccessful, the code remained the same.
How do I get a working code to download the Yosemite Beta?
    Thank you for your help!
    Regards.

I had the same problem -- I went to the Beta program page, signed up, received a code, but when I clicked on the code the first time I just got a window showing me that it was redeemed (or inviting me to photo-redeem an apple card), but no download appeared in my purchases.  I tried going back and starting over, but now I just get "code already redeemed."  Signed out, signed in, same thing. No magical yosemite download in my App Store purchases.

  • How to update from Yosemite Beta 6 to Public Release?

Does anyone know how to upgrade from the Yosemite Beta (6th release) to the final release? I don't think Apple is suggesting it, but I'm not going to roll back to Mavericks to then upgrade to Yosemite again, but I want to make sure my OS isn't stuck on the 6th Preview.
When I go to the App Store to update, it says I'm already on Yosemite, but still shows "Download" as an option. Want to be sure I'm not missing something.
    Thanks!

When I look in "about this mac" - it says Yosemite 10.10. Do I really need to download it again?
I found on a blog that someone contacted the Apple service:
“simply install the final version of the software you are testing when it appears in Software Update” – that means the final version of the beta software you are given to test is what will be made public. So we’re on the same build as what is now in the App Store.
My compute OSX is 10.10 but build is (14A388b) while some say that app store version is (build 14A389).
Does it really make a difference? If I don't download it will it continue to update?

  • After installing Yosemite beta on external drive, Mavericks doesn't startup from the internal drive

    Hi,
After I installed OS X Yosemite Beta on my external hard drive, my Macbook Pro no longer recognises and boots from the Mavericks partition on my internal drive. instead, it starts up the Yosemite installer even when the external drive is not connected.
And when holding the option key during startup, it shows 2 partitions: "OS X Installer" (that I've not created) and "Recovery-10.9.5". However from the system preferences in Yosemite, the partition is shown as a startup disk. and also i can see the Macintosh HD partition and its contents in Yosemite.
Any idea how to make it boot normally when turning on the macbook? any help appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Try this:
    Go to "System preferences"
    Click on " Boot-up Disk" (4th row)
Select the disk you want to boot
    Restart the computer

  • Successfully installed OS X Yosemite 10.10, App Store updates prompting me to update to OS X Yosemite Beta 2, OS X Yosemite Beta Recovery Update 1.0

    Good day community people,
I've successfully installed the final release of OS X Yosemite 10.10 on my iMac 21.5" (Late 2012). When I open the Mac App Store to check for updates, the updates prompt me to update OS X Yosemite Beta 2 & OS X Beta Recovery Update 1.0. The question here is, I already installed the latest release on my iMac why how come App Store still stated I need to update to Beta version?
More info on my previous state before installing the final release. I was a Open Public Beta tester of OS X Yosemite but I didn't install it on my iMac, therefore my iMac is upgraded from OS X Mavericks. So by right my procedure is correct. Please assist. Thank you.

It seems no one could answer my question here but I found the solution. There's a bug even after installing the final release that caused the Mac App Store keep on prompting Yosemite Public Beta updates. The only solution is re-download the final version again from Mac App Store and re-install on top of current installation without formatting or erase the hard drive.
    And you're welcome

  • Upgrade from Yosemite Beta to full public release

I'm struggling with updating my Macbook Air, I installed the public beta of OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) I now want to wipe clean my drive and install the full public release.
Every-time I install direct from the App Store, Beta version 4, I've tried booting into recovery mode, Disk Utility and wipe the SSD, re-download guess what Beta 4.
I've get and understand this is driven by the fact my recovery partition is Yosemite Beta, what I'm looking for is how can I overwrite this with the full general public release version.
Passing note, I know there is not much difference only really finial build number etc. but its frustrating when I perform a clean install, open the app store to be treated with the same beta upgrades...
any help would be appriciated, I have 2 other iMacs which can be used to create a bootable OS X USB or a networked install route should this be required.

Download the Yosemite release from the App Store and save it. You will need to erase your hard drive and install anything from Snow Leopard to Mavericks before you will be able to download Yosemite. There is no way to upgrade the beta.
