Interesting discovery....Books in projects

this may be old news to some, but it has been a revelation for me..
I am collaborating with a writer on a book of poetry and photography...using Ap to draw from my library of work (130Gb). We need to meet and review the progress and current design, and she's not local to me. So, the challenge was to take the book layout and photos on my MBP to a designated meeting place, but without taking my whole library. To my pleasant surprise, I learned that *a project does not have to contain image masters, but can be built using an album of candidate shots and the book layout itself...nice.* All I had to do is export the project from my MP (being sure to "consolidate images") and import it to my MBP Ap library...now we can review the book design together and even look at alternate layouts, fonts, colors and photos....
Sweeeeet!!
cheers,
david

It seems you're right. I booted in recovery mode, and was asked to enter my wifi key. What I don't understand is why sometimes you don't have to.

If you go to 'About this Mac', More, System report (sorry, I must translate as I don't have an English system), under SATA/SATA Express section, you'll see a Recovery HD volume.
So MacOS creates a hidden volume on main HDD.

  • Document number of Planned cost booked on Project system

    Hi All,
I have a requirement wherein i need to find out the document number of the cost booked in Project and WBSE. Like for eg in Report S_ALR_87013532, there is planned cost.
also in the same report S_ALR_87013532, we have OVERALL VALUES and TOTAL OF YEARS. What is the difference between the two ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    Ajay

Overall is derived from the Overall values planned for the project (at the overall level) - look at config of your planning profile - transaction OPSB.
Total of Annual is the sum of the all annual values planned for the project.
To get the document number, you will need to go to the line items. To go there, select the WBS element or whichever level you want to drill down to and then goto menu Goto -> Line items. You will be given a list of line items available (actual, plan, etc...). Once you get in there, you should be able to select the "Document number" field from the available fields or click on the "Document" item to view the posting document.

  • How can I save a book in projects on a separate hard drive

How can I save a book in projects on a separate hard drive?

You can not save "just a book"
The book is just entried in the iPhoto database and the only way to move its location is ot move the entire iPhoto library
You can make a special library just for the book so you have a smaller library to archive - see Old Toad's tutorial #9

  • Java Software Solutions book programming projects

hey. if any of you have heard of this book you know that theres programming projects at the end of each chapter. if any of you might know a website that has solutions to these projects, could you please post a link for me. it would really help a lot. thanks

I have no delusion of the reality in programming. However, one has to acknowledge that some programming requirements are more concretely specified than others. I have done programming exercises in C++ (quite sometime ago and in class) that are defined in few pages. Many programming exercises in the book I mentioned are given just only in a few sentences to a page. There are also programming exercises that are defined in a way that the correctness of a solution can be verified more easily.
I am a novice in Java and have not done any program for quite some time, and I am learning the language alone. I want to ask an experienced Java programmer such as you that if there are better sources available for me to get some programming experience other than the programming exercises available in this book. Is there such a resource available? Could you point me to one?
Please don't take this personally. I am just frustrated.

  • .eps vs .ai in book-length project

It's my understanding that an .eps is proxied in ID, making stuff run faster than .ai files in a long document. Right now I'm working on the 300-page CD. Easch page will have  one small 1x1 or 2x2 inch 4C  illos, and the rest will be b+w. I have the content divided evenly into 5 sections (for my sanity).
So my question is, should I place the files in the .eps or the .ai format? My new computer is turbo charged, so I don't think processing time will be an issue. However, I work in High Quality Dispolay mode because the b+w art is fine-line drawings, which drives me nuts in pixelated view.
The book itself will be 304 4C pages with about 380 4C photos and 98 4C illos. (Those were the easy ones.) So, .eps or .ai. They're all .ai right now.
So what say you, my gurus?
    Thanks!
    Toni
PS None of this would be remotely possible in the time I have for the illos (about another 6 weeks) without AI's Actions panel!

    Peter,
Glad to hear it, because I *really* don't want to have to resave everything at this point. I've always thought that publisher's art departments wanted .eps files because they didn't know that .ai would work. Then I started wondering if they wanted .eps files on projects this size because of the proxy thing.
At this rate we'll want to enclude you and friends on the CIP as Technica Advisors.

  • Sync photo book print project between two Macs?

I have two Macs synced using iCloud Photo Library which works great.  I noticed that the Photo Books (and other print products) don't sync.  Is there a way to find that file in the Package Contents and copy it over to my other Mac?  Probably not the safest thing to do but I would love to be able to work on my photo book on multiple Macs.  If not I guess I could put my library on an external drive and use access the same library from both Macs.
    Thanks.

I can log on to my macbook via wireless network and transfer files back and forth. I'm just not sure of all the files FCE uses when working on a movie. I think if I knew what files they are I could lump them together in one folder and copy that folder back and forth to each other via wireless. As long as path is the same on both mac. I'm just not sure and need someone that's maybe been there.

Wireless connection is a bad idea as data rate transfer speed needed for video material is pretty fast. I'm sure that your macbook air hard drive is not designed to give a sustained data rate tranfer speed for a such usage.
Partitionning is a bad idea too as your internal drive has to seek for data stored on 2 logical locations fitted on just one physical support. It seems many many actuator stop and go and less efficient data rate transfer speed.
I maintain my suggestion, go for a dedicated external hard drive where you will put all media related to your project AND the project file itself. If FCE is correctly installed on both mac, your project will open flawlessly from one mac or other.

  • Feasability and approach? I want users to book "shared project calendar" open time slots with me to do a device upgrade.

Brought in for a limited short time / term project.  I am seeking to minimize the amount of time spend making appointments with individual users who have been selected for a computer upgrade.  2 morning and two afternoon time slots are available
each day. How can I create a public calendar that I email in a link to a groups of users to select the one on one meeting time slot most convient for them to meet with me for the upgrade?  Do I need to set myself up as a resource? Please advise or

    Hello,
I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the specific intricacy of your situation (a hosted domain at Outlook.com), and so do not know if indeed that is causal to your issues. But perhaps a workaround will be useful? For example, if you indeed use your hosted domain for your email, but create a true Outlook.com account for the use of only Calendar and Contact synchronization, then that might work?
You can find complete instructions here:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-10-Smartphone/How-To-OTA-Sync-BB10-and-non...
For your email account, you simply use the domain they are hosting, and for Contacts/Calendar, the true Outlook.com account that you create for that purpose.
    Good luck!

  • An interesting discovery of ant javac compile task

    hi all
i just found out a new thing about using ant to compile java classes, at least it is new to me. you can use ant to compile classes even if they are not in the correct physical path which are indicated in the package declaration. i.e. if you have a class :
    package com.name1.name2
    class SomeClass{
}and, if the java file is atually located in com/name1/name2/name3, the ant can still compile it and place the binary class anywhere u specify.
    any comment on this?

thanks, i suppose javac will place the class file in
proper place with the information from the package
declaration. if it is declared for this package,
then it will be compiled and place in that folder
accordinglyYep. Relative to current directory, or to the directory specified by -d if present.
. interesting, i never knew that until
now. but this wuoldn't work if you want to use an IDE
tool to develop. i tried with eclipse, and it
complained about the package problem and treated it
as an error. That's probably eclipse being deliberately stricter than javac. Personally, I can't see any good reason not to put them in their respective package directories in the first place.

  • Interesting discovery

Today, I found out that 16MB of VRAM is not enough for iTunes 7 if you're using the vga output on a laptop to set dual displays.
For the longest time, I had a LCD monitor that I was using primarily as a tv, and it was not connected to my laptop. After I hooked the monitor up to set up dual displays for the laptop, iTunes could not refresh my library or display cover flow at all. It would still play songs, but it was hard to see what song I wanted iTunes to play. Switching between the view modes didn't help since iTunes did not correctly refresh its screen.
Doing a search, I found out iTunes 7 requires 16MB of VRAM, which I have on my laptop (G4 667MHz). It turns out setting the laptop for dual displays halves your VRAM, so I had 8MB for each display. Therefore, iTunes couldn't refresh the UI or display album art.
I'm sure most people by now have far more than 16MB of VRAM these days, but I thought I'd post this for someone who might run into the same problem. Plus, I never knew before VRAM was split in this manner to handle dual displays for laptops at least. Maybe someone can verify to see if this happens for regular video cards on a desktop system in the system profiler.

Ok, solved the USB direct connect problem on my Dell inspiron laptop. Just, uninstall iTunes and Updater fully (latest versions), restart and reinstall them. Then restart again. Please do not connect your ipod yet. Then go to Dell update website and update the chipset and Bios drivers and install them. Do a full windows update as well including non Priority updates. I do not know what it is that solved the problem out of all those steps I mentioned but the IPOD works perfect now. I am assuming it is most likely the chipset update but I had done that before...mystery.

  • Interesting discovery re iWeb1.1 Problems.

I have been having the same probems like most in here since the update to iWeb 1.1 (with my iMAc, and a pre update website already published) to no resolve, including discussions with people at the apple.
Over the past weekend, I bought a Macbook and tried running iWeb 1.1, and published a small site to the same iDisk as my iMac and everything went through smoothly, no errors, with the commenting working just fine.
So there must be a file in the systems with pre existing websites that is creating these problems...since i was able to publish a new site with no errors with the new computer with no prior website in the macbook.

  • Interesting single sigon application project using jsp and servlet....Help.

A customer login's to my website using Enterprise login. I am supposed to have a link on my website to this other website(that also uses our Enterprise login details but hosted by other vendor/company on their server), and when I click this link the customes should automatically get logged in to this other website and get a welcome page(instead of login page).
Below are the sequence of steps that the other website wants me to perform to get to his welcome page(i.e bypass his login page).
FYI, I am planning to build a jsp page with a link to this other website. Can some body tell me how should I build the application(i.e) how jsp and servlets be build to interact to perform these operations. Any hep is greatly appreciated.
1.When a user clicks on to other website link(available on my website), the browser generates an HTTP GET request to the Other website's session servlet. User's name is one of the parameters of this request.
2.Other website receives the HTTP request and generates a unique session identifier for this user. An HTTP response to the end-user is then sent. The user's name and the session identifier are passed back as parameters in the redirect URL.
3.The browser sends the HTTP request (GET) to the Verification Service that was specified in the redirect message. The parameters (user name and/or session id) will be passed as URL parameters.
4.The Verification Service(of other website) authenticates the user. A redirect URL to it's sigon servlet(with parameter's User id and key) is then sent back to the user's browser.
5.The end-user's browser will perform the redirect (performing an HTTP get operation to Other website's signon servlet with the username and the digest key).
6.The other website will check if the parameter's passed is the same as the one passed earlier, if the user is who he says he is then he is redirected to the main page of the application.
7.The browser will then redirect the user to Other website's main page (welcome.jsp).
There seems's to be many calls to this other website that needs to be performed behind the scenes once a user clicks the link on my website.
Please suggest and help me out.........

Why are you trying to build a whole federated single sign on framework from scratch when you can just use/buy an existing and proven solution instead? There are a lot of security implication and trust issues involved for this so unless you already understand all of those I'd advise you not to re-invent the wheel. There are a lot of products available that do this. Try searching for '<vendor name> Access Manager' or OpenSSO.

  • Discovery: Border color trumps project background color, sort of

I just made an interesting discovery.  My project background is set to #FFFFFF white (Edit > Preferences >  Defaults > Background color) and my borders are set to the "company" orange (FF7900, REALLY orange).  During normal viewing all is okay.  However, if there's a lag between a published project ending and another loading, I see this gigantic orange box.  Aha!  if I disable my borders, I only see white during a loading transition.  Apparently the borders are filling in the area during preloading?
I'll submit a feature request.  --Leslie

In the Layout menu for two photos per page try selecting one of the top two options. That seemed to give me pink borders every time I selected it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Projects, albums and books have disappeared!

Something has happened to my Aperture Library-- I'm not sure itf it was before or after the 1.1.1 update, but I've lost tons of images, albums and books. The really odd thing is that they don't show up in Aperture-- but they do show up when browsing the contents of the Aperture library in the finder.
Here's an example of my "Book" folder-- which contained many albums, books and projects that are now missing:
Here's the same folder from within the Aperture library after viewing it's contents:
All the missing albumns, books and projects are there! The only project that's is showing up in Aperture is Hudsons 2005. I've rebuilt the library three times. I've replaced the library from the last vault-- which has the same problem. The projects are in the Library, just no longer appearing in Aperture.
    Help!

Another thing to try would be to make a folder inside the Aperture library, then move one or two of those album projects into that and then start up Aperture - it might see them as new things.
