Interesting graphics glitch in Finder and other applications

In just the past couple of days, I have noticed what look like diagonal lines of pixelated boxes when browsing through Finder using Cover Flow. In 3D game applications, these boxes are more prominent and all the graphics are messed up. I installed the Sims 2 recently, but this graphics problem did not occur until a few days after I had installed the game. Any thoughts? Thank You!

Unfortunately, we figured out this is a hardware issue and since I'm not under warranty, I'll have to decide whether to spend $300 to get the graphics card fixed/replaced.
Side note: Not hating on Apple, but these similar issues happened about the same time last year. Fan makes noise, fan gets replaced, then logic board fails or is damaged somehow. I will make sure to get the AppleCare coverage next time, but I hope I don't have this many issues again.

HELP! Finder and other applications keep crashing after application install

Okay, this was probably not a good idea considering I did not read that it was only for snow leopard... but I downloaded the Metalik theme from Julien Sagot's webpage (http://juliensagot.com/). Now, when I logged out and logged back into my account, I see that Finder keeps quitting and relaunching itself. Safari and other applications do the same thing. I cannot open any files or webpages!! (I am writing this on my other computer, haha)
What is happening!? How can I fix this and return my computer to normal?

Boot the machine into safe mode, holding down the Shift key. If that's successful, delete the nonsensical stuff you installed and try a normal boot.

Yes, I can find it on my Application folder.
When I try to relaunch it, it says,"Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."

Office 2004 and other applications suddenly stopped working

All of a sudden I've been getting the following with any Office application, and other applications have been exhibiting strang behavior as well. Specifically the error with any Office is:

I can't even uninstall Office because the uninstall program generates the same error.
Also, iChat no longer works (opens for a split second then closes without an error msg) and iMovie give the following bizarro error message:
iMovie requires a “Quartz Extreme Compatible” graphics card. Certain iMovie features such as Themes, Ken Burns Photos, and Video FX may not work properly with your graphics card.
I'm running an intel iMac (OSX 10.4.8)
I have tried verifying & repairing permissions to no avail.

This Lion OXS 7 is .. becoming very frustrating ... it will NOT keep changes made in the Address Book and it has destroyed my contacts which I only have electronically since 10.4 in my address book. I am NOT happy with this OS7 it has a lot of issues and faults. How can one stop automatic reversing of data when inputting???

Relax. Your address book database is corrupted.
If you are syncing your Contacts with MobileMe or something else, disable it for now.
Backup your address book by going to File>Export>Address Book Archive.
Quit Address Book.
Open your Library by holding down the Option (alt) key while selecting the Go menu in Finder. Select Library. Navigate into your Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete the addressbook-v22.abcddb file.
Open Address Book. It will recreate the database from the raw data.
See how that works. If it is ok, then reenable syncing and see how that works.

Your location is determined from a location database which contains the MAC addresses of routers and their physical location. A MAC address is a unique number which is built-in to all network devices when manufactured. The database is built and updated by actually driving around and mapping router locations.
Since you just moved the location of your router has not been updated in the database and when you use Maps you will see your old location.
If you go outside your house you can be correctly located because your iPod sees other routers which are in the location database. Note that you do not need to be connected to a router for your iPod to see it and obtain its MAC address.

It should be added that only Macs and Quadros need the CUDA driver. That is not required for use with GeForce cards on Windows.

ok for facetime and imessage go into settings turn them off make sure to make an icloud backup and then go to settings general erase all content and settings and then set it up from the backup it should activate your imessage and facetime

Go to System Preferences / Accounts - Login Items.
In order to make changes, click the lock icon bottom left corner of the pane. You may be prompted for your admin password.
Select the apps you don't want to launch on startup then click - (minus).

First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

Reinstalled 10.7.3 from the Combo Updater from apples website.
The only way to reinstall the Mac OS X or repair the startup disk running v10.7.3 Lion, is to use Lion Recovery The combo update does not do that.
How much free space on the startup disk? Not enough free space can account for the problems with your apps.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

Try using OpenDNS as suggested here > Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
