Interesting issue - Help!  Some App downloads only work in some areas!

When I am on my home or work wireless network all of my apps including email and TV Guide and about 10 news apps all download perfectly.
When I am at the local airport on their free internet, all my news apps work fine (NY Times, Blastr, Dvice, Pulse, TUAW, Weather Bug, IMDB, etc) and refresh as they should. I even streamed the "Dark Knight" movie app which plays the first 5 minutes of the movie free (then it's 9.99 for the rest!) and it played as it should.
However, my TV Guide app AND my AOL email won't load. Ever. I've tried this many times. BUT my Safari works and goes to any website. (I guess I should try to load my email directly from a Safari page - never thought of that till now)
TV Guide just spins the little fuzzy circle and says "Loading" until I get a "Network timed out" message.
Email just sits on a blank screen and also says "Loading" and then it times out as well.
(PS - the "Ad" banner at the top of the TV Guide app runs!)
Interestingly enough, the exact same thing happens on my iTouch and my iPhone with the same apps!!
The only thing I could even possibly fathom is that there is some kind of bandwidth issue???
Any clues?

Most likely the problem is that some IP addresses and/or ports are being blocked by the network sources you are referring to. It has nothing to do with the devices you are using. Contact the provider of the "free" WiFi to see what the restrictions are.

    I have created a navigation system on the master pages and set the presentation to links only mode. I also have other links scattered throughout the program, like a linkable table of contents, etc. Some of them work, some of them don't. Not sure why. Anyone out there having similar issues?     Links should not create any problems in Keynote.  If they are set up correctly on text, the text will be underlined. Objects that have links will have a curved arrow bottom right, if you click the arrow a popup will display the link information.
    Try this repair for Keynote,  ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:

    delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application

    empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash

    Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
    When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
    If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.

    Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive

    when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click  repair disc permissions

    when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart

    install Keynote from the Mac App Store

    If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted. I think that's what you are experiencing.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
    If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

  • After software update (Sept. '09) apps don't work and some missing

    Plugged my phone in and itunes said there was an update I needed to install. Did that then it said there was a problem with the phone and it needed to be formatted before itunes could read it, did that too. Then while it was syncing up again after formatting it kept telling me there was a problem and items could not be found. All downloaded apps, some are missing completely from the phone, are no longer working. HELP!

    Perhaps the OP doesn't connect the iPhone to the computer very often.

    I am in the UK and eventually found the problem was due to my BT Home Hub Router.  Not sure where you live, but of you are in the UK, this might work for you.

    It worked for me.  If you can't link to the URL, here is the body of the text
    There's an issue related to the BT homehub that is providing a hostname that is "syntactically incorrect" for several smtp server.
    Here's how you can fix it.
    Using your internet browser, go to the address "192.168.1.254
    - Follow instructions to reset your password if asked.
    - Then go to "Settings", then "Advanced Settings" and "home network"
    You will see there all the devices that are connected or that has been connected before. It's gonna be easyer if yout computer is the only one connected.
    Your computer should have a name like "unknown-xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ...
    Click on this name, chose another name without any special characters, like "macbook" for exemple.
    And then click on "apply"
    - restart your computer.
    That should fix the issue.

    Try this and see if it helps.
    Settings>Safari>Clear cookies and data.
    Now close Safari completely. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then "swipe up" or "drag up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Basic troubleshooting steps oultlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
    You need to go through all steps in succession until your problem is solved.  If going through ALL these steps fails to resolve your issue, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

    I've recently started trying to use Password Manager again, but it only works with some websites, and none of the important ones for me (where security is most important, such as banking).  On these websites I see no functionality at all: no pop-ups, no storing, no autoloading.

    Nobody else has this problem? Pw Manager works fine with this site and many others, but is useless with major banks and other more security-sensitive sites.

    Is there a batch process that runs in the evening? Perhaps that ends up cleaning out the data from the buffer cache, turning logical I/O's into physical I/O's early in the morning.
    Can you check the statistics on the table before the process starts and after you re-gather statistics? Perhaps there is a nightly process that is altering the statistics at an unfortunate time or in an unfortunate way.
    The previous poster's comment about getting a trace file is excellent as well-- whatever your session is waiting on will be apparent in the trace.

    Upgrade went ok, but took long time. Some apps don't work correctly or crash. e.g. Apple Store app just recycles back to main screen. Starbucks app works for a few seconds then crashes.

    I had same problems.
    I decided to "downgrade" back to OS3. You can too!

There is the right One already preentered. From there it switches back to the former mask (appleID +password) and nothing happens. If you say Log in again, ist just switches between those masks without showing an error claim nor logging in. Strange thing is ist worked proppperply till a few days ago.......

    If you get to step 3 I recommend closing ALL the apps.
    Here is step 1 to get you started.
    Restart iPhone
    To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
    Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.

    We usually advice first to Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache in case of such problem and then do a check for extensions to see if any are causing the problem.
