Interesting little app that gives 100% CPU time to your app of choice.

Hi All,
I saw this cool little app that basically shuts down all other non essential processes and gives 100% CPU time to the app of choice. It is called Freeze Frame. Thought it might be worth a look, with all the overloads and all ..... PS - I am not affiliated with this company whatsoever.

I was hoping to get some pointers 'in abstracto' as to what generally may lead to such behavior (i.e not utilizing 100%). Unfortunately, there are about a snotzillion things that could cause the situation you describe. As already pointed out, all we can offer are random guesses, and that's not a productive use of anybody's time.

  • Zenity takes 100% CPU Time

    When I run as root or normal User
    zenity --notification --text="test"
    The zenity process takes 100% Cpu time
    System:

    I GOT IT... I think.
    zenity --notification actually calls libnotify! I was trying out a script and suddenly realized something, because by chance dbus decided to take a break. Take a look at these two code fragments.
    $ zenity --info --text "hello"
    $ _
    $ zenity --notification --text "hello"
    libnotify-Message: Unable to get session bus: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-jmMdFXbznS: Connection refused
    <hang>
    <100% CPU usage>
    I've figured out why: it's basic socket programming gone wrong. The notification part of zenity calls libnotify, tries to connect to libnotify's socket, and fails, using 100% CPU waiting for the connection to... end a stream that never started.
    A possible solution is to just use notify-send.

  • Genius updating taking 100%+ CPU time and error 13011

    Does anyone else have the issue of iTunes updating Genius causing their CPU usage to max out run the cooling fan at full speed?
    Im getting an average of 100%+ CPU usage while its updating or compiling or whatever its doing and Macbook cooks whiles its doing so.
    Activity Monitor is reporting ridiculously high CPU usage. How do you even get 108% CPU usage?? Can someone explain that for me?
    Im also getting the message 'unable to save library' with error 13011 at the end of Genius updating (the Genius update progress bar is full).
    Can anyone give me some pointers as to what I can do to check why i'm getting these issues or if there is resolution?
    Killing the Genius data gathering solves the CPU usage issue straight away but I'm sure it wasnt this bad before Snow Leopard.

  • Is there any API or Property Node that gives the CPU Speed.

    I want to get the information about CPU Speed, RAM, Harddisk and OS installed on the system through LabVIEW.
    Are there APIs that give this information.

    attached are some zip files that show how to read info with .vbs script files. Change the file paths to point where you downloaded the files.
    Another alternative is to use .NET stuff, but I haven't taken the time to figure out how to use it yet.

    Everything on my system looks like it is running in a slideshow at 3 or 4 frames per second.  Pretty much everything is being software-rendered, I guess.  I know that my ATi card cannot accelerate OpenGL untill kernel 2.6.32 comes out (at least not out-of-the-box) but I *know* it is capable of EXA, Xv, and Xrender.  On both my Ubuntu 9.04 install and my previous Arch install, Xorg stayed at ~5% CPU usage.  I'd kindly like some assistance in why nothing is being accelerated.

  • 100% cpu time on application but not vi

    I am trying to build an application but I am running into a problem i have not seen before. I have a vi that uses 3 while loops simultaneously. It works fine when i run it on my developing machine as a vi, but as soon as i make it an application my cpu usage goes to 100%. It still functions, but obviously the pc is doing to much work. Any ideas on why this is happening? Labview 7.0

  • Discoveryd process uses 100% CPU - Safari Can't find the server

    Hello
    Since upgrading to Yosemite, I lose connection to the internet 2 or 3 times a day. (Outlook goes offline at the same time)
    This is with a wired connection. (Wi-Fi is turned off)
    Safari gives me the "Safari Can't Find the Server" message.
    Restarting the computer solves the issue temporarily.
    While I'm unable to connect to the internet, Activity Monitor shows a process named "discoveryd" that uses 100% CPU.
    Force quitting this process gives me back access to the internet instantly. Unfortunately, I suffered a kernel panic (auto restart) a few minutes after force quitting discoveryd. I'm not 100% sure those 2 are related but it would be an odd coincidence as I never experienced had a single kernel on that system. Haven't tried force quitting that process since.
    I'm using this iMac in a work environment. (Connected to a windows file server and exchange)
    This issue has been happening 2-3 times a day since the day I upgraded to Yosemite.
    Any pointers on what could fix this issue ?

  • Fuzzy Logic 4 & 100% CPU Usage freeze

    Hi,
    is there any Fuzzy Logic 4 Version out there that works with KT3 Ultra2-R and XP?
    I tried 4.0.63.1 and 4.1.48.0 from the MSI Pages and the Version I got on CD
    4.0.63.1 just can't find the avi ...
    4.1.48.0 and the CD Version just add the Icon to the taskbar when starting and than take 100% CPU-Time and do nothing anymore.
    The Program is not even killable in Taskmanager so all I can do afterwards is wait 10 minutes until XP has shutdown with the leftover CPUtime.

    I understand the CS2 is probably not helping, but there is really a problem on other apps too - not only CS2 and those are universal.
    Page ins/outs are currently 142257/71109 and i have not been using or even opening CS2 - just safari, itunes, What size , MSEntourage, VLC and moving some files.
    I have taken some earlier advice on your posts regarding using multiple internal disks - so i moved itunes and iphoto libraries to a separate disk and also use that for scratch in CS2. The drives are 250GB WD and 250GB Seagate, and i am looking at replacing them with one or two 750GB WD RE2, although probably not in RAID ( dont want to complicate my life too much in one go !)
    Overall i think the page ins/outs look high from my searching in other posts, but can't see why it would be overloaded when i normally dont use the CS2 that much ( only a hobby)
    Also the private/var/vm directory has 3 swap files - two of 64 MB and one (Swapfile2) is 128MB, if that tells something else ?
    looks like i will have to invest in 4GB more memory as well as the HDD's. i was confused with the apparent further lack of support in CS3 for 64 bit programming (?) although i dont know when that would be launched so soon after CS3
    I have a case of a little knowledge ( which can be a dangerous thing!)

  • Instense hd activity and 100%cpu make my system completely unsable

    hi.
    it happenned the first time with some app (i don't know which one) using the hard disk quite intensively.
    and then i couldn't even move my mouse. well i move it but 10 seconds later the pointer move on the screen. and i coudn't do anything under X. even type something.
    i manage to go to a console via CTRL-ALT-F1. but couldn't login because login give me a time-out ! and then i finally rebooted so i could get back my system and use it.
    then,later, i decided to run dd if=/dev/urandom of=/somepartition bs=1024 before setting up a crypted partition. and it happened again !
    the hard-disk activity and the 100% CPU usage . and i couldn't do again anything except reboot !!
    when i run the same dd command on my Arch 32 bits. it does give 100% CPU usage too but i can still use X without problem. even without any slow down.
    so the 32bits system is an old Athlon XP 1800+ with an IDE disk.
    and the Arch64 is a brand new Athlon 64 X2 4400+ with a SATA drive and a nforce chipset MCP61.
    so what is the cause of that ? clearly the cpu is so used that nothing could work. but on the 32bits system too. and it still works. so ?
    is the configuration of the kernel of arch64 different from arch32 ?
    i am thinking at compiling my own kernel with PREEMT configured or even compiled an rt kernel. but why is this needed whereas on the 32bit arch all is fine ???

    may be that's bs=1024 the problem and what that caused the slowdown ?
    or may be i mistyped /dev/urandom and used /dev/random ?
    i am using now :
    schedtool -B -e dd if=/dev/urandom of=/somepartition
    and it works nice. no more than 50% CPu usage. and no slowdown...
    the schedtool -B is to be sure there will be no freeze and that dd will not take all the cpu power...

  • 100% cpu utilization

    We have been struggling for few month now trying to figure out this problem. Application runs fine for few days (or even few weeks in some instances), and then load average (uptime) goes to 1 and cpu is becomes 100% utilized. If I leave it running, in few hours load average starts going up. The the entire application locks up when load average is around 15. Some of our applications actually have been running for few month before this happens.
    We are running on linux. The problem shows itself much faster on Redhat 9, it�s not as bad on Redhat8. Also, it�s much better under 1.4.2_02 jvm, and pretty bad on 1.4.2_06. It also happens in 1.5.0_01. It looks to be most stable with 1.5.0_01 with ConcurrentGC. We have few dozen servers each running at least 2 JVMs, and tested every combination possible.
    Our application is heavily thread, custom built. We have a load test running at 10 times the number of threads and can not replicate this problem within few days, so I believe it has nothing to do with the number of threads and the way we use them.

    General technique for Java apps that use 100% CPU is to take a series of thread dumps (send SIGQUIT on UNIX, Ctrl-Break on Windows), once a second for 10 seconds.
    When you analyze these dumps, look for threads that are consistently in Runnable state. If you've got some sort of loop running, you'll see the same set of threads Runnable in all the traces, and you'll see the stack trace showing what they're executing.
    Also, search the Bug Parade for your symptoms. Link is available from the main java.sun.com page.

  • Photoshop CS5 always around 100% CPU usage

    Photoshop CS5 12.0.1 x64 running on Snow Leopard 10.6.4 always takes around 100% CPU, no matter if it's on screen or not. I can not figure out what it is doing behind the scene. I have deactivated fonts preview and I have no third party plugin except for the FontExplorer plugin (that handles missing font requests).
    Use case example : Right now, Photoshop is hidden and on a different Space (as in Mac "Spaces"). The only open file is a psd file, containg only a few layer and groups, no text and is 240px X 130px. For the past 10 minutes, Photoshop's CPU usage has varied between 99.8% and 103%. This seems odd, comparing to After Effects running at the same time using only around 0.6% CPU...
    Any idea how I can fix this?

    Try turning off font previews, try disabling your third party plugins.
    We've seen several third party plugin bugs that would waste CPU time.
    And font previews can spend time (completely interruptable) until the previews are completed.
    Photoshop normally uses 1% or less CPU when in the background.

  • Publishing topology causes high CPU times? What?

    I have a mixed environment currently with 2 lync 2010 front ends (Production) and 4 lync 2013 front ends (pilot pools).
    When I make a change and publish the topology all 6 2010 and 2013 front ends go to 100% CPU time.  IIS Worker Process is to blame and issuing "iisreset" on each server fixes it.
    Where do I ever begin to diagnose this? No odd network traffic in packet captures, but I know right away when it happens as SCOM starts blowing up on CPU time and Lync conference join errors.

    Each 60 seconds a task is run to determine if a change has been made to the CMS master and needs to be replicated. If a change was made, all replica need to synchronize with the CMS master. The replication may cause the high CPU usage. You should check the
    duration of the High CPU usage. I think once the replication completes, the CPU usage will go down.

  • 100% CPU Usage caused by HMI

    Hi everybody:
    I'm working with LabVIEW DSC 8.2.1 in a system that monitors many variables of a plant, such a typical SCADA system. For this reason, the use of the graphic tools is highly used on the development of this system. Everything works fine, but I have only one problem.... the usage of the CPU.
    When I am working on the development system I (not the executable) I start the application and after the variables are initialized and every process has started and are running , the CPU usage is raised around 90 - 100%. After a few days investigating the reason of this, I realized thay when I change the view on the screen to another view, for example the block diagram of the application, while the application is still running, the CPU usage goes around 15 - 25%. I've tried these many times changing the view from Front panel to Block Diagram and viceversa and the result is always the same: Front Panel= around 100%; Block diagram or another view (other applications MMIs, or Block Diagrams, etc.)= around 20%.
    Another thing that I realized is that the other view (different to front panel) has to fill the entire screen to work the way I'm telling before.
    When I build and run the executable, the usage of the CPU is the same... (around 100%), but I can't see any other application, because the application built is the shell of the OS, so no other views are available.
    I don't know if there's some other consideration to take into account about the HMI when creating an application, and I'll appreciate very much your help.

  • Ntvdm using 100% cpu when installing jdev 3.2

    I downloaded jdev32.zip from otn, unzipped it into a directory and tried to launch setup.exe. Busy cursor appears for about 15 secs, then disappears. ntvdm is startet and consumes 100 % cpu time. No install screen appears.
    I stopped almost every service on my nt 4.0 server sp 5, no help.
    Anybody any idea / experience ?

    Thank you for your reply. I can exclude the bad zip file, for the setup programs from jdev 3.1.1.2 and jdev 3.1, which happened to stay on my machine, show the same behaviour (they worked fine at their time). I agree that it has something to do with my installation. Meanwhile, I reapplied service pack 5 and applied service pack 6 for NT, no help.
    I will try to check with install shield corporation.
