Interesting Problems/Solutions with 645 Ultra V1.0

Hi All, I just wanted to share some of my experiences with the older 6457 Ultra V1.0 MB.
I've had one of these since last Sepetember, and I've been trying to get it stable ever since and only just succeded.  Oh, as a side note, everything is being clocked as it should be, no OC'ing here, I'm after stability. Okay, system spec:
MSI 6457 Ultra V1.0 bios 1.3, 1.6,1.7, 1.8 but mostly and currently 1.9
Intel P4 2.0Ghz 400 FSB Stock HS and fan
1 X 256 333 DDR Ram (Generic 2.5 CAS)
2X Maxtor hard disks 20 and 30 Gig ATA 100 (Primary master and slave)
Liteon DVD CDRW dirve (secondary master)
Netgear FA311 NIC
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Creative Geforce 3 Ti200
Chieftec 350W PSU v+3.3=28 v+5=30 (may be other way round, I'm at work right now and can't check)
XP Pro
Problems I've had :
Nvidia drivers (Creative or Nvidia any version since September 2002) result in the system booting very slowly (3- 5 mins instead of 50 secs) and quite often just rebooting once the windows UI appears, just after log on. Kept getting the infamous "nv_disp.dll" error report from XP.
The solution to this was to run the memory at 266 rather than the rated 333.
A side effect of this problem was that sometimes (not always) the system would drop to 10% of its usual speed. Once this had happened there was no speeding it up again. Sandra clocks the MEM bandwidth when this happens at 220MB instead of the usual 2200MB. A symptom that this has happened is that when the XP logo first appears at boot up it fades in very slowly instead of it's usual snappy fade in.
The solution to this was to jumper the CMOS clear and reset up the BIOS.
Alternately you can format the system and rebuild it, but nothing else seems to return the system to full speed. Only a CMOS reset or a rebuild of the OS.
These solutions are only tested on the current 1.9 Bios. I have no idea if they'll work on earlier or hacked versions.
In order to find these solutions, it's taken a lot of blood sweat and tears, not to mention reading all 1600 posts about problems with Ultra's.
I hope the solutions presented here can save someone else the frustration I've had just trying to get this thing stable enough to play games on.
I must also add that these solutions may not work for you, I went through hundreds of Bios settings tweaks and fiddles trying to remedy these problems and none worked bar the ones mentioned.
I suspect that the RAM in this system may be the cause of all the problems, but I am unable to get hold of any other 333 Ram to try.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can get this to run its memory at 333 (which is what it physically is and should run at) without buying more RAM (been unemployed for six months and only have 2 weeks work now!) and be stable with Nvidia drivers, I'd be delighted to hear them. I'd also like to hear from others who've suffered similar problems, as I could do with the moral boost of knowing I'm not alone :-)
As a side note, this setup does run very nicely with the Ram at 266 and Bios 1.9. It now seems very stable which is a breath of fresh air.
Sorry for the long post, but it's alot of information to impart. Hopefully, it'll save someone else from tearing all their hair out.

had sim prog fix them... :P
what to do...
bios v1.9 (update)
[support new chips etc
update agp drives (SiS AGP Drivers v7.2.0.1130 )
[fix some usb /video card problems ]
set agp apeture (in bios) to 128mb
set ram (assuming 333ddr) 2.5 / normal / normal
most generic ram (my is first modual is 2.5 -3-3)
set irq settings to auto(non auto setting will cause random (equal to or less than blue screen of death)
(move sound card (if not using on board disable games port and sound) to pci slot (3) [3rd from the bottom of moatherboard]
- this provides no conflict with video card.
-set irq for vga = on
use xp pro
user service pack 1
run 3dmark2001se for 3 hours (should not crash)
if you think it your ram download a ram tester software(free) (and put on on a floppy disk) this will test you ram.
if useing a network card put it in slot 5 (fifth from the bottom)
p.s. also check (in bios health ) power supply problems
eg rails 3.3v should be no lower than 3.2xx
5v should be no lower than 4.87x
12v should no be lower than 11.70v
because i had a bad power supply (3.3v was 3.02v and 12v wat 11.2v (from time to time hard disk drive would power on/off then on....)
3.3v is for vide cards /pci slots /ram voltage etc..
12v for hard disk drive/cdroms etc...
5v for logic board on harddiskdrives etc...

  • Help requested with 645 Ultra-C with a PCI ATA/133 card fitted

I'm new here, so please bear with me if this plea for help is short of info :-
I built my PC 5 years ago, using a 645 Ultra-C board ( MS-6547 2.00 ) and have had no problems since - till now.
I recently installed a PCI ATA/133 card, mainly to be able to add 2 additional hard drives.  It installed ok and the 2 extra drives are recognised correctly on the card's primary channel as is a DVD device on the secondary channel.
However, on initial booting, the card is interrogated to determine what devices are connected to it and then there is a delay of up to 2 minutes ( it feels like forever ) while BootMagic is being searched for/loaded.
It makes no difference if I swap the 2 drives and the dvd over or remove the dvd drive.
The bios ( AMI 07.00T 12/20/01 )  is correctly setup to boot from floppy first, then HDD1 ( connected to the mainboard's primary channel) and 'try other boot devices' is disabled.
I have no wish to boot from the extra drives, so is there any way of avoiding the boot system from looking there first ?   Is there any other bios settings to consider ?
I'd be grateful for any hints/help.
    Thanks.

    Yes,
Go into bios and set boot sequence
Also go into pci controller bios, and set no boot
It's usually CRTL+A or CRTL+M keys on keyboard............
Controller cards will be main boot target, unless told
I have got the boot sequence set correctly - but I can see no sign of a pci controller bios option.  Cntrl A  or Cntrl M  have no effect.  Maybe the 645 bios doesnt offer those options.
I have never updated the bios - being of the 'if it aint broke dont change it' school of thought, so I may need to look at this area, now.
I'll be posting a question here about live update very soon - basically 'is it the best way to update the bios ?'
Thanks for your help so far

  • P4 533 with 645 ultra-c

just got p4 2.4 533 also msi 645 ultra-c.  I read on the msi website that the mother board only supports up to 400 fsb.  So I rang the shop up and they said that they always supply that combination and it will be fine.  So my question is will it be fine and if not, what problems will I encounter.  As far as I can see its very fast but Ive been used to a Pentium 200 for 3 years so anything is fast compared to that.  Also Ive used Sisoft Sandra 2002 and that shows that it is a flying machine but it also says that I need to reduce my fsb.  So any suggestions,  should I upgrade my motherboard or downgraded to a p4 2.4 400.  Please help, Im getting worried ?(

645 Chipset is not officialy validated for 133MHz FSB only for 100MHz FSB. This is the main difference between 645 and 645DX chipset. At 133MHz PCI is 33MHz and AGP 66MHz. They are not overclocked. I use 645 Ultra with a P4 2,80GHz (133MHz FSB) for two months now with no problem at all. If PCI and AGP were overclocked almost all Hard disks and somae gfx cards should die after one week usage.

  • IOS 7 exchange server problems solution with iPhone 5

Hi, after big troubles after IOS 7 update on my iphone 5 to receive and send emails I found my own simple but stupid solution.
In "mail, contact, calender" you click onto your account name and click "mail synchronisation". IMPORTANT: the choice must not
be more than 3 days. If more than 3 days like " 1 month" it won't work anymore.
    Very strange. Good luck.

    Markookie

..-:) My individual issue refers only to the iphone 5 user , who have of course problems with emails and their exchange server. Mine also worked fine in "unlimited", but only under IOS 6. Since iOS 7 update it was not possible anmyore.

  • Linking Problems & Solutions with CRMXIF_SYMPTOM_SAVE

    Hello there,
I am currently using the following structures to load Problems and Solutions from external sources into the CRM Solution database.
    - CRMXIF_SYMPTOM_SAVE
    - CRMXIF_SOLUTION_SAVE
I can load the problems and solutions into the SDB successfully however i am having trouble linking the problems to the solutions via the load.
I loaded the problems first, then when loading the solutions i used the structure "CRMXIF_SOLUT_SYMSOL_TAB_DATA>CRMXIF_SOLUTION_SYMPSLINK_TAB" and added the legacy problem ID to the field "LEGACY_SYM_ID".  I thought this would link the solution to be loaded to the already loaded problem but this was not the case.  So i entered the problem ID into the "SYMP_NO" field but this didjn't work either.
Has anyone ever used these structures to load problems and solutions and how did they manage to link the solutions to the problems during the load.  I assume the load would like them automatically otherwise it would be a painful process to link them manually.
Any tips and help would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    JoJo

    Hi,
I have read your query. If they can be used for mass upload of Problems and solutions, these can also be used for the Delta changes as well. When this is registered for an outbound or inbound scenarios in WE20 (Partner Profile), then the exchange will be happening without any issues.
XIF is an adapter which can be plugged in for the data exchange and this acts as the message carrier. So you can use these for Delta exchange as well.

  • 645 Ultra (MS-6547) Really Strange Bios Problem

I have just upgraded my pc with a 645 Ultra (MS-6547) mainboard with 128Ram and a Celeron at 1,7GHz. I have a hdd with a Windows 98 on it. The first time I booted after the change, windows starts up, it starts to detect the devices and is asking me to restart. At restart I see the video Bios and after that the mainboard starts beeping from the speaker and the display is showing lots of pages with special caracters and it freezes after a minute or so!!!!
I tried to upgrade the bios but al i got is this message:
    "Phoenix Bios
     D686
     Award Boot Block                                               MS-6547
Chipset/Flash port isn't available. The function will be  invalid."
The really freakiest thing is that with another mainboard (same model) the problem is the same.
At first I thinked that is a boot virus, but I scanned the hdd on another system using f-prot with the latest definitions available(30.01.2003) and is clean.
    Any ideas what could be?
    thanks.

First of all: every one of the two mainboards started fine at the first boot, it loaded windows, started to detect new hardware then it asked me to reboot. After that it was hell! The graphics bios apeared and after that is starting to show something like this " %#^@&$(!#^ " all over the screen, is filling pages with this caracthers and beeping from the speaker. the d-bracket is with the 3 and 4 leds on red and i can't do a thing. the bios flasher (from your site) is telling me:
    "Award Boot Block MS-6547
Chipset/Flash port isn't available. The function will be invalid."
the next thing i did was to try the old components on another pc based on an old i810 board. every one of them worked fine (individually and together). then I use the third board to remake my sistem from scratch with only new components (the old ones I was afraid to use), i instaled win98 on another hdd with drivers for the mobo. Everything was fine. The other hdd i scanned it on another system (winXP) with NAV2003 using the 05/feb/2003 updates and is clean. Then i saved the docs on it, formated it and copied (using pqmagic8 ) the partition from the new hdd with the working win98 on it. Installed the hdd and is ok. The the floppy and is ok. And now I am afraid to put the video card on it!!! I have talked with the service support and they told me to wait until they e-mail me an update program, new bios and instructions to recover my two boards. but that was 2 days ago... and i still got 2 freaked mobos!!!!
I will try tomorrow to recover the bios using the instructions on your site, hope it will work.
I still don't have a clue what the hell happend and what is the cause of this!!!

  • MSI 645-Ultra problem

I build up this machine in January 2002 by myself and it work fine.  But, this week my computer start to turn off automatically and reboot, after it reboot i can work on it for about 20 min. and then the same thing append.  It even append to me when i was in the BIOS, so for sure its not a windows problem.

I can install a cheap vid card and I have NO Problem! ATI sent me a replacement card and it does the same thing, "Black Screen Lock-up" or just reboots. If both ATI cards are doing the same thing, there must be some kind of incompatability between XP and the 7500 AIW (no problems with ATI card and Win 98SE).
ATI has washed their hands of any future responsibility, so I am apparently stuck with a $200 vid card that doesn't work with my system.
Tell more about your system, bertz.

In my computer I had a Network-adapter which coused a problem of self-reboot when i tried to shut-down.

  • Help with the MSI 645 Ultra!

I've got a very frusturating problem. I just bought the MSI 645 ultra mobo to upgrade my system, along with a brand new P4 2.0 GHZ processor and 512 mb DDR ram to go onto the board. My problem is as follows: The computer is not booting up. No OS, no BIOS, no nothing. When I turn the power on and hit the switch, all the hardware in the case starts up and sounds fine... but the screen remains blank. All four lights on the little diagnostic tool/usb port thingy that came with the board stay red, which, according to the manual, indicates a problem with the processor.
The processor is either bad (highly unlikely with it being an Intel chip) or for some reason its not working with the mobo. So, heres my question: Does an Intel P4 2.0 GHZ Northwood processor work with the MSI 645 Ultra?
Under the list of supported speeds, 2.0 ghz is not listed ?( . Can anyone tell me whats going on here?

  • 645 Ultra not booting with new GeforceFX5200

Thanks ahead of time for all the help.. I'm really just a newbie computer guy with a frustrating problem.  Before last week I was running my system with a Geforce2MX with no problems.  At one point I had to flash the motherboard because it didn't recognize my hard drives, but the video card was fine.  I bought Deus Ex Invisible war, and found out I had to update my video card.  So I purchased an Albatron Gigi GeforceFX5200E.  After removing my old video card and inserting the new one, my computer would not boot.  The power would turn on, but the Monitor does not.  The D-Bracket says it is hanging on "Initializing Video Interface", so I had my friend test out the video card, with the results being it works perfect.  So I am at my wits end... I have the new AGP drivers... the motherboard is updated... I know the card works.  I have read about messing with the voltage or somthing, but I don't know how or what to set things at. Please help!!!
    My specs:
MSI 645 Ultra Motherboard (flashed to latest version)
    Celeron 2.4ghz processor
    512mb RAM
    CWT 350w Power Supply:
         3.3v - 20a
         5v - 35a
         12v - 15a
    Soundblaster Live! Value
    Memorex CDR/W drive
    56k Modem
    2 WD Hard Drives (80/30gigs)
Fan Control Unit w/ 4 Fans
I hope thats enough info.  I'm very close to just ditching the motherboard for somthing else, its been giving me so many problems.  Thanks again.....

What would you all recommend for a new power supply?  What should I look for?  Somthing relatively inexpensive (starving musician here) that gets the job done would be great.
Also, I flashed the motherboard before buying the new troublesome videocard, because my motherboard wasn't recognizing my two WD hard drives I purchased, but it was working fine with these small older hard drives.   Weird stuff... other then that though the motherboard has been good... especially if this video card stuff is simply a power issue.  Thanks again guys.

  • 645 Ultra Network Problems

I am having dreadful problems trying to establish a network connection in my new computer.
When I instered the card into my new motherboard it detected and applied the drivers with no problem. When I attached the ethernet cable I saw a light on both the switch and the card. Aside from that there is little working on the network side. The orange light on the lynksys is on to indicate a 100 based connection, but the activity light(Green) is also always on and will not blink for long periods. Every 5 minutes the both lights will blink off for a moment and come back on again and when it does my windows xp system will display that the connection is lost. I checked the packets and  a small amount was sent but none are received. Also if I try to immediately go to internet explorer or my network connections as soon as I log in the windows involving those will freeze up until about 2 minutes later. Like the system is still trying to detect a connection.
    Parts I am using:
    MSI 645 Ultra Motherboard
    Western Digital 40G Hard Drive
    Generic Floppy Drive
    Nvidia AGP TI/4400 Graphics Card
    Linksys EtherFast 10/100 Lan Card
    USB Microsoft Keyboard
    USB Logitech Mouse
    OS I am using:
Windows XP (without SP1)(Fresh format and install)
    Also to note:
Video card and bios have been upgraded to thier latest versions.
Ethernet cable is 100 based and works fine in my other machines.
Ethernet Card also works fine in other machines.
I have no other PCI slots in the system.
The connection is from Machine to switch to router, but even connectiong directly to the router has no effect.
Moving to another PCI slot makes no difference.
Currently using Plug and Play but I tried assigning it a specific IRQ and made no difference.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
    James Grummell

Sounds to me as you have faulty ethernet cable. You try a different one?

  • MSI 645 ultra xp / 2000 problem please help.

I've got 3 MSI 645 ultra mobos. I've tried every thing i can think off to get xp installed and working. I don't get as far as formating the hard disk in the setup. I relpaced the power supply with a qtec 550 watt power supply (the gold one). i've flashed the bios to 1.9, i've used different hardisks and cables. I've checked the memory PC2100 and 2700. It's a pentium 4 1.5, I've tried a 2g in it as well. I'm using an ATI radeon 7500 but have tried a s3 agp card. All the other components work fine in another machine but not on my 3 MSI boards.
Please help some one out there must have had the same problem. I'll buy the first person who fixes it cakes!!!

    Hi,
I ran memtest 3.0 and there were no errors. it ran for 9 hours.
I am only using one hard disk at a time. it's set as a master on IDE1 and the CDrom is on IDE2 as a master. should I use cable select?? I also tried the hard disk and CD on ide2 and that did not work either.

  • Solution to problems synchronizing with Mercedes C...

Warning: this is long but worths reading if you have trouble synchronizing your Nokia's phone book/addressbook with COMAND APS.
I have spent hours looking on Mercedes and Nokia forums for my problem and did not find a posted solution. I have now found a solution myself so I decided to post here hoping it will help other people.
First my issue: I have an E-Class W211 (Apr 2005, UK) with phone pre-wiring, the Mercedes SAP v2 cradle and a Nokia E61i (S60 3rd edition). Till about a week ago the whole was working perfectly: was able to make/receive calls, read/send SMS, synchronize the phone's and SIM contacts to the COMAND, etc.
About a week ago I upgraded the firmware on my phone to overcome some other (irrelevant to this) issues I had. When I got into my car after the phone's firmware upgrade I naturally needed to pair the phone with the COMAND/SAP Cradle. I did everything according to the manual that came with the SAP v2 Cradle and thought all would be good again. Then, I try to re-sync the COMAND's address book with that of my phone's by following the manual's procedure (dial 0000).
The synchronization started ok: phone exited Remote SIM mode, got indication "Please Wait" on Comand and phone went into Sync mode. Almost immediately though I get on the phone "System Error" and just the option to press ok. I pressed ok and few seconds later the synchronization process ended, Remote SIM was activated again but phonebook was not loaded to COMAND. I repeated the same process over and over again, removed pairing and went over the whole pairing process from the beginning but still no luck. Unfortunately neither the phone or the COMAND would give any information on what the problem was.
I checked for many hours on Nokia and Mercedes forums, on Google, etc. but still no luck. I found quite a few people facing the same problem mainly with N95 and E-series phones but no solution. Strange thing was that all were facing the problem from the very first time they tried to transfer their phone's contacts to COMAND while in my case in the past it was working and stopped working after upgrading my phones firmware.
After hours of trial and error (removed recently installed phone applications, restored old phone backups, etc.) without luck I thought the problem would be the new firmware on my phone. But... I had no way to go back to the old firmware but even if I had I would cause the same issues that the new firmware solved again (so "rolling back" the firmware was not a real option). So I started going through every possible "core" phone setting that could have changed with the firmware upgrade to see what could be wrong and voila: if you go to the Connect->Sync menu on your phone you will see there a sync profile called PC Suite. Select it, click Options, Edit Profile and then, Connection. You will see that one option is Server Version. If selected Server Version is 1.2 underneath there is another option called Server ID. These two (Server Version and Server ID) are what cause the problem. You have the option to edit the PC Suite profile and set Server Version to 1.1 (then Server ID option disappears) and synchronization with COMAND will work. But as you might have side effects with PC Suite in this way, the ideal thing to do is to create a new sync profile, copy the settings from the PC Suite profile (you are prompted for this) and then, go and change this new profile so that Server version is 1.1. That was it (at least in my case) and I hope this will be helpful for others too. I also had Mail For Exchange installed on my mobile and removed it but I don't think this was the issue (will actually re-install MfE on my mobile now).
Obviously, this Server Version 1.2 option did not exist on the old firmware of my phone so there was nothing to configure and all was working ok seamlessly but when it came out and set as the default by Nokia caused the incompatibility with Mercedes COMAND.
    Good Luck!

Thanks for a thorough description of your problem and devised solution.
I was getting very happy with your description of facts, for I recognized them all. However, in my case your solution did not work: I did change back to Server Version 1.1 of the synchronization profile and still get the "System Error" message.
I have no doubts whatsoever that this happened with the 110.07.127 firmware upgrading.
Do you have any other clue on how to proceed from here?
    JB
