Great research Sean! So far, I think there is some good stuff
there. I
bookmarked it and will probably check it regularly.

  • Site doesn't work properly

    Hi all, I'm PHP programmer, and i have some questions in my area. I have 3 Apple computers (MacBook Air, MacBook and MacBook Pro). There is one site, made by our group, that doesn't work properly on my MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, while other sites work excellent on that 2 computers. And what is more interesting, site, that doesn't work on my MacBook Pro and Air, WORKS on my windows computer, and WORKS on my MacBook. I tried to use this site from different internet provider, but problem was steel actual. I asked 2 of my friends to try this site on their MacBooks Pro - the same (it doesn't work properly, links don't open), but any other computer (under windows, or iPad, or my Macbook) can work with this site excellent. Can anybody help with this? Are there any specifications in program code to MacBook Air work with that site also excellent?

    It's working, after using Cyberduck to FTP.

  • Snow Leopard and hard disk problems?

    This may just be a coincidence but I and several colleagues have had problems with Macs over the past week.
    a) My Macbook Pro lost the date/time and wi-fi settings. Next reboot wi-fi was still lost. Now seems OK again.
    b) At times my 24" iMac is running slowly when nothing seems to be hogging resources (eg just copying a 3Gb file to an external hard disk). Time Machine also seems to be taking much longer to backup.
    c) Hard disk failed on a Macbook Pro of a colleague
    d) iMac 27" seems to be having severe hard disk problems for another colleague - Applecare will be visiting after trying numerous fixes over the phone.
    On my machines I have run the Cocktail suite (permissions, scripts and caches) Disk Utility Repair and Techtools Deluxe (no reported problems) but the iMac problems seem to creep back.
    It is like a disk caching process (or Spotlight?) is not cleaning up properly and is clagging up the system. Or maybe a hard disk is close to failure but the problem is not severe enough to show up in diagnostics? In any case I am diligent about backing up at the moment!

  • Where is the Safari 5.0.5 "Do Not Track" setting?

    The WSJ -- as well as most of the Apple Interest sites -- have promised that there would be a "Do Not Track" setting in the new version of Safari -- namely, and specifically, 5.0.5.  For what it's worth, I can't find it.  It's not in the "Preferences" settings; there's no privacy tab there at all, actually; it's also not referenced in the Help menu system; and finally, there's no sign of it in the Apple Site.  In fact, the only references are all from these 3rd Party groups, starting with the Wall Street Journal.
    I'm guessing it may be there somewhere -- the new Firefox actually does have the setting, but it's very difficult to find.  Sort of a grudging attitude, I'd say.  "You can have it if you can find it, but we're sure not going to help you find it."
    Google Chrome, of course, doesn't have it at all: how could they? They make all their money off selling all the information/using all the information they can, in their advertising business model.
    So.....I'm guessing that Safari -- in spite of the promises -- doesn't have the "Do Not Track" option, at least not yet.  If you can find it, please let me know.
    Thanks.

    Oh, if your really want to block things you can add a block list to your Hosts file.
    1: Download the free Text Wrangler
    2: Copy the entire text of this web page:
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt
    3: Paste into Text Edit
    4: Remove line: (important!!)
    127.0.0.1  localhost
    5: Use Find and Replace change all instances of
    127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0
    6: Save the file onto your desktop for now, any name will do. Leave file open in Text Edit.
    7: Launch Text Wrangler and File Open By Name:  /etc/hosts
    8: Touch nothing you see there (very important)
    9: Text Edit and Select all/copy
    10: Text Wrangler, mouse to the bottom of the file (add some returns) and click paste.
    11: Save the Text Wrangler /etc/hosts file, it will ask for your Admin password.
    That's it. you just added a computer level block to all the current malicious sites on the Internet, along with ads, trackers and other nasty business.
    All you have to do is update that portion of the /etc/hosts file every few months using the same methods above without deleting the original /etc/hosts file contents.
    You shoudl save a copy of the original /etc/hosts file just in case you delete it by accident.
    If you want to block any site on the Internet, just add a line and (example, like so)  0.0.0.0 www.facebook.com
    If you want to unblock a site just put a # symbol in front of any line for the comptuer to "ignore this line"
    What this does is resolves the domain name for certain malicious/ad sites before it asks your Domain Name Server for the correct IP of these sites.
    Because you use 0.0.0.0 it's "nothing" and the site fails to load.
    Note: All responsiblity is yours if you screw things up or have any problem using this method to block sites.

  • Internet wont load some pages and drops

    Dear,
    A problem occured when updating my osx maverick to 10.9.3. Since then, some pages won't load (some do at some point, sometimes they don't).
    There are a lot of topics from other users which suggest turning off ipv6. I tried that but then the connection totally fails. My ipv4 is set as using dhcp. I tried renewing this when ipv6 if either on or off. But that doens't solve the problem. With ipv6 on, i have the problem as first described.
    I also cleared my preference list in the library, changed firewall setting, proxy setting, dns settings and so on but nothing seems to be solving my problem. I have put every setting back to what is was after testing.
    I know this has nothing to do with the incoming network, since a friend of mine could connect to any website using his windows computer.
    Has this occured to anyone else? And does anyone have a solution in order to connect to all sites?
    Maybe interesting: sites like google, facebook, youtube work. Other sites, like this one, imdb and all other less frequently visited sites won't load.
    Thanks in advance, if i need to give more info, please ask it in the comments,
    Fl

    Hello dimar50,
    Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Safari on your Mac.  I recommend resetting Safari for an issue like this.
    You can reset Safari by going to Safari > Reset Safari and then selecting the option to "Remove all website data."  This will clear your Safari History and Top Sites, so I recommend bookmarking the sites you would like to save before resetting Safari. You can find more information at the following link (the title of this article says Mountain Lion, but the steps are the same for Mavericks):
    Safari 6 (OS X Mountain Lion): Reset Safari
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph11914
    If the issue persists after resetting Safari, I recommend the following article:
    Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Send a message from a list of emails in lightswitch 2013.4 HTML screen using ajax

    Hi There,
    any idea how to make a button to send a message from a list of emails in lightswitch 2013.4 HTML.
    my idea is to send message to all emails in the details picker (or the drop down menu or a choice list) tat is filled by SQL query (as a data source in lightswitch)
    i have read many articles,  most of them were written in PHP or VB !
    for example:
    http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/HTML/Sending-email-with-AJAX-building-a-small-application/1/
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/22442074/how-to-send-email-to-a-list-of-addresses-from-lightswitch
    http://lightswitchhelpwebsite.com/Forum/tabid/63/aft/75/Default.aspx
    http://maxslabyak.com/c-sharp/using-jquery-to-send-email-with-web-services/
    http://www.paulspatterson.com/microsoft-lightswitch-sending-emails-from-the-client/
    http://www.quercussolutions.com/blog/index.php/microsoft-lightswitch-sending-emails/
    http://www.lightswitchspecial.com/2013/01/7-most-easiest-way-to-send-email-from.html
    as far as  i know, the HTML screens in lightswitch 2013 can be encoded with ajax only, not vb or C# any more!
    my project contains only HTML screens, no desktop screens. i know that i can do the VB programming in the tables actions, but i am looking to have this code in the Browse screen to give me more flexibility depending on my decision to
    send or not..
    help please :)

    Hello Hasan,
    I do this using a generic handler(e.g. sendmail.ashx). In the ashx file i use this code:
    Imports System.Net.Mail
    Imports System.Web
    Imports System.Web.Services
    Sub ProcessRequest(ByVal context As HttpContext) Implements IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest
    Dim str As String = "there was no error "
    Dim Recipient As String = Convert.ToString(context.Request.Params("pRecipient"))
    Dim strsub As String = Convert.ToString(context.Request.Params("pSubject"))
    Dim strmsg As String = Convert.ToString(context.Request.Params("pMessage"))
    Dim msg As New MailMessage
    Try
    ' Your mail address and display name.
    ' This what will appear on the From field.
    ' If you used another credentials to access
    ' the SMTP server, the mail message would be
    ' sent from the mail specified in the From
    ' field on behalf of the real sender.
    msg.From = New MailAddress("[email protected]", "Displayname")
    ' To addresses
    msg.To.Add("[email protected]")
    'msg.To.Add(New MailAddress("[email protected]", "Friend B"))
    ' You can specify CC and BCC addresses also
    ' Set to high priority
    msg.Priority = MailPriority.High
    msg.Subject = strsub
    ' You can specify a plain text or HTML contents
    msg.IsBodyHtml = True
    msg.Body = strmsg
    'msg.Body = _
    ' "Hello everybody,<br /><br />" & _
    ' "I found an interesting site called <a href=""http:'JustLikeAMagic.WordPress.com"">" & _
    ' "Just Like a Magic</a>. Be sure to visit it soon."
    ' In order for the mail client to interpret message
    ' body correctly, we mark the body as HTML
    ' because we set the body to HTML contents.
    ' Attaching some data
    ' msg.Attachments.Add(New Attachment("D:\Site.lnk"))
    ' Connecting to the server and configuring it
    Dim client As New SmtpClient()
    client.Host = "mail.gmx.com"
    client.Port = 25
    client.EnableSsl = True
    ' The server requires user's credentials
    ' not the default credentials
    client.UseDefaultCredentials = False
    ' Provide your credentials
    client.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential("yourcredentias", "f2f081639ad")
    client.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.Network
    ' Use SendAsync to send the message asynchronously
    client.Send(msg)
    Catch ex As Exception
    str = ex.Message
    Finally
    msg.Dispose()
    End Try
    context.Response.ContentType = "text/plain"
    context.Response.Write(str)
    End Sub
    When you create the ASHX then replace the ProcessRequest with the above function.
    In LS HTML Screen create the function for pressing a button an appen the following text:
    $.ajax({
    type: 'post',
    data: {
    pRecipient: Screen.yourdata,
    pSubject: Screen.yourdata,
    pMessage: Screen.yourdata,
    url: '../sendmail.ashx',
    success: function success(result) {
    alert(result);
    This is a way you can do that. In VB and out of your browse Screen.
    Hope this helps
    Thomas

    That is an interesting site.
    The country code (su) was for the former Soviet Union. But despite all the Russian the server appears to be in Pennsylvania.
    The site (drp.su) has a decent rating at the WOT and Scamvoid. But a few report trojans or adware. Be sure to check any downloads with your AV program.

    Airport Extreme   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    OK, in my long, very long quest to understand
    networking and it's quirks, I am again asking what do
    these entries mean. Below are outputs of a Terminal
    request to list all network activity. The only
    machine code identy that's mine
    is"00:14:51:ec:e9:04". The rest aren't mine, for that
    matter are they even real ID's?
    No, I don't believe so. Those bogus-looking MAC addresses are the result of your ABS failure to initialize the fields. More information can be found in RFC826. Check out http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc0826.txt?number=826
    This weirdness only seems to show up in ABS. Here's an arp transaction from my router:
    09:26:23.614964 arp who-has albook tell actiontec
    0x0000: 0001 0800 0604 0001 000f b3a7 57fc c0a8 ............W...
    0x0010: 0001 0000 0000 0000 c0a8 0067 ...........g
    09:26:23.615080 arp reply albook is-at 00:11:24:c9:56:7e
    0x0000: 0001 0800 0604 0002 0011 24c9 567e c0a8 ..........$.V~..
    0x0010: 0067 000f b3a7 57fc c0a8 0001 .g....W.....
    Notice that in byte 18 of the request the EA is zeroed out. I bet you will find the same location coming from your ABS to have non-zeroes, and that is being interpreted by your sniffer as a hardware address.
    Other notables: you have two legitimate active machines, one at 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.1.2. We all assume this means you're using an ABS. But there's this line:
    16:57:43.038086 IP 10.0.1.3.49324 > 10.0.1.255.netbios-ns: UDP, length 50
    Now, 10.0.1.3 does NOT reply to arp requests. Yet there's a broadcast to netbios-ns from it. Netbios is a Windows authentication system. You might want to look into who has 10.0.1.3.
    Hey, that Koders looks like an interesting site
    The other weirdness I see is this line:
    21:37:09.031061 arp reply 10.0.1.2 is-at 00:14:51:ec:e9:04 (oui Unknown)
    I find this funny because 00:14:51 is registered with the IEEE as an Apple oui. I'm pretty sure that's a bug in the sniffer, but it gives me a chuckle.
    I'd look into that 10.0.1.3, unless you're running Parallels and it's using 00:14:51:ec:e9:04 and doesn't have to respond.

  • Help to revive my Macbook Pro 2006

    Hey,
    My MBP was bought in late 2006. It is the first aluminum model I believe. It also runs very hot.
    To the point:
    Every move I make on it takes ages, I could write a sentence and it would roll the beach ball and hang for many seconds before I could continue. (No other apps open). I have clean installed Snow Leopard on it, so the problem is not in the software. HD doesn't have errors or permission problems.
    Can I revive my Macbook Pro by installing a new harddrive on it, and add a stick of RAM? Right now it only has 2 GB. I was thinking about using it as a desktop computer with the lid shut, and doing my work with it. (Photoshop, Office, Web). It does have a dual-core processor, which should still work fine on this usage.
    Is this even possible? Could the harddrive be dying and would a new HD and RAM fix the slowness or am I just hoping too much?

    Can I revive my Macbook Pro by installing a new harddrive on it,
    At this point, we don't know if there is anything wrong with your hard drive or even its size.
    Right now it only has 2 GB.
    Max out your ram
    Could the harddrive be dying
    Common symptoms of a dying hard drive
    Hard drive is making a clicking, whirring, grinding, ping pong ball noise or any other type of unusual noises.
    Hard drive is not spinning.
    Computer is not recognizing the hard drive.
    Sluggish loading of applications.
    System freezes and hangs.

  • No sound in website videos

    Many websites I go to have embedded videos.  When I tap the video it plays but no sound comes out.  This is true if I go to news sites or general interest sites.  Oddly if I browse to Youtube in the browser there will be no sound.  But if I use the goofball Youtube PlayBook app there will be sound for the same videos.
    Why?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I have only experienced this problem with videos stuffed with ads.  If I try to go past the ad insert point after the ad fails to load for whatever reson, then I get no sound and more than likely the controls won't respond.  I then have to reload the web page to get things working again.
    In the situation where sound fails to play for a video, sometimes I find I have accidentally tapped the sound button that sends the player to mute.  This mute setting seems to carry over to different YouTube videos on different sites, probably because they all point back to YouTube itelf and the lst saved settings.
    If you want to have us help you check things out, perhaps you can point to the web pages containing these videos that fail to lay sound for you.

    What is it and can it be deleted, without problems??
    Thank you,

    Well done clevermonkey, interesting site. [you got a "solved"]
    it appears that Adobe, like Apple, covers their posterior at every op and disclose as little as possible .   Thankfully there are
    some smart monkeys to help us apes out...  I have enough of Adobe cluttering up my Pictures folder.
    Thank you,  I AM deleting and see what happens.
