even after losing my 1st nokia n900, i cud not digest any other phone as similar and doing-business for me.
hence to asnwer all easy options i bought again my 2nd n900.
Certainly there is no match to its convinence, leave apart its processor.
I am also amongst those who r eagerly waiting for new version, but the possibility seems to b diminishing .
hope nokia will revive this exclusive-not-for masses-smartphone!!!

A Short Review of MS Access, SharePoint ,InfoPath (2013)
After the November 2012 SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas (#spc12) there were a number of blog posts and people saying that Access 2013 was great and would be replacing InfoPath.

Gotz have short posts summarizing #SPC12 and touch on the subject of InfoPath and Access. I also spoke with several individuals shortly after #SPC12 and they were excited about Access 2013.
Since I rely heavily on InfoPath for much of what I do, I wanted to kick the tires and see what everyone was talking about. First, a few notes about SharePoint 2013 and Office 2013.
Microsoft should rename Access: If you have tried to
bing the word Access, then you know that the search results are overwhelming, because the word "access" is used for so many other purposes.
Use the RTM version of Office 2013! I was performing my investigations by leveraging the Office 365 Beta and the Office Applications that come with it. Not much was working! After I uninstalled the Beta
version of Office 2013 and Installed the RTM version everything seemed to work.
Windows 7 and IE 9.0: The drag & drop that is being touted as
"manna from heaven" seems to work well with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and IE 10, but it does
not work with IE 9!
Non Microsoft browsers are still second class citizens (except for the drag & drop): Microsoft has finally done away with the Active X's for datasheet view (that is brilliant!) One can now see the newly
minted datasheet view in many browsers. But I still find that one needs to be in IE to do a number of key manual opeartions. For example pasting numerous rows of data from a spreadsheet into the new sheet view works only in IE.
Access 2013
Microsoft Access is touted as a non developer tool. I know a number of people who are on the business side and love Access. These people will like the renewed energy that Microsoft has applied to Access. One should note that conceptually
this functionality existed in SharePoint 2010. Here is what I see that is new:
+The new version works better:Although I haven't tested it fully, it seems that many more features that work on the Desktop version of Access, now work in the published Web Application which is hosted by SharePoint 2013.
+The new version has fairly robust browser based forms: End users can now fill in data using forms that are rendered in the browser.
+The published version that resides in SharePoint now uses its own SQL server tables. So the engine appears to be SQL Server, not a modified version of Access built for a server. This stands to be quite robust, but I imagine
that some quirks will surface due to new model.
The limitations are:
- Access is pretty much its own application and does not integrate with SharePoint building blocks. For example, an Access table is not easy to integrate with a SharePoint workflow. Further, although Access forms now are visible
in a browser, they are not nearly as rich as InfoPath forms. InfoPath forms cannot easily integrate with the Access tables. In order to integrate SharePoint features and Access, one needs to tie SharePoint list(s) to Access as data sources.
This overcomplicates the model and one may very well run into synchronization issues.
In short, although I believe there will be some people who will be happy with newly minted Access, I do not think that Access will be able to replace InfoPath and Workflow technologies. I do agree that Microsoft does not seem to have put much energy into
InfoPath. If they leave a vacuum in this space, then others may very well take over, for instance Nintex Forms.

Although I agree with the comments made by Ruven and Marc after the conference please note that those blog posts are their own personal opinions and that they don't work for Microsoft. A lot of people have asked Microsoft to clarify the future of InfoPath
and the response up until now has been a deafening silence. In my opinion speculations about Access replacing InfoPath are premature.
I should also point out that most of your comments about Access 2013 above are actually about Access Services in SharePoint Server 2013. Access Services are NOT Access they are a shared service offering in SharePoint that convert and publish Access
databases and forms. As you point out once an Access database is published through Access services it is converted to SQL Server and no longer resides in Access. Of course I don't work for Microsoft either so these are all just my personal opinion.
Having said that I doubt you will get the confirmation/response that you are hoping for from any official Microsoft channel.

This is a great little interview and important to note... towards the end of the interview he talks about the market they're hoping to pull with the new price point for Shake and he says something about, even if you want to use it as a one trick pony for time mapping, smoothcam or key or morphing it's a great price.
Well -- I hadn't heard that until after I started my series... not actually sure which came first -- but he's right. Shake has great engines for just these things and at 500US it is a great price for a 'plugin.'

Siebel Econfigurator info about the future prospects please

My company is pushing me into accepting the role in Siebel E-config (for some products).. I have no idea about Siebel CRM though I have worked as a tester before...
Can some one please tell me whats the future for someone who has just worked on Siebel E-config(is this something hott)(ofcourse nothing is hott in this market but may be 1-2 yrs down the line)...What extra skills would I need to remain in the Siebel space ,may be not working for my present company but some one else in 2 yrs .

Hi Raj,
Siebel product configurator is a quite complex solution to be implemeted carefully(i.e. considering Oracle's Best-practices for it), however if you do it right, you will be greatly impressed by its capabilities and you will be in great demand...some of the best-practice is to spend a significant amount of time building the Product Model, and validating (via little prototypes) that this model is optimal and well fits the Siebel architecture. Infrastructure sizing is obviously key. Product "distribution" is also important (i.e. on which server(s) a product is going to be loaded on...) and will be a contributing factor to your product configurator's performance, scalability...you may also need to consider that the product configurator's architecture has quite changed from 7.5.3 to... 8.0...
and not to sell our Monitoring Tools...:)... as your team develops and tests/tunes product configurator, and then goes live with it on production, you will need Siebel-specific Monitoring Tools to help you analyze and troubleshoot its performance (along with the overall performance of Siebel), which we provide:
SiMon: Monitoring tool for Siebel,
SiDeb: Root-cause analysis for Siebel,
SiMaint: Maintenance for siebel, SiMon and SiDeb.

What's about the future of JavaME? Java is disappearing from every mobile..

We can't continue to develop without knowing anything about oracle plans.
Java is hardly 'disappearing from every mobile'...
I can't belive it, java exploded into the mobile market, every mobile phones was capable to run a good midlet, and now? I'm really disappointed from the Oracle way to keep us informed on Java future... They says that Java developer have no reason to worry but what about JavaME? What about JavaFX on mobile? MIDP3 has been approved since many months now and we neither have a SDK. What about the plans to merge the JavaSE APIs with the JavaME one? I can't belive that JavaME will be kicked off in that way, too sad...

please give us some news...Who is this addressed to? You do know (or don't you) that these forums are 'staffed' by volunteers who have no official relationship with Oracle (or Sun before that).

Opinions about the first generation iPad?

I've been considering purchasing the first generation iPad vs. spending more on the iPad 2. I don't think I would be an iPad "power user" - basically just want one so that I can check email and surf the web. Who's using the first generation iPad and what do you think of it with iOS5? Any issues I should be aware of?

The first generation iPad can only be found used at this point... I have no problem using mine with iOS5, but others have complained about it.
Keep your eye on March 7 - Apple has announced a "media event" featuring a picture of the iPad which could (nobody here could say for sure) be the introduction of a 3rd generation iPad. If so, it is possible that the iPad2 price will be lowered, or that it would be a good time to get a used iPad1 or 2 from someone looking to sell their old model and buy a new one.

Dropped macbook on the floor, concerns about the future applecare coverage

My friend just dropped his macbook on the floor. There are now two obvious dents around the corner of the notebook. It works fine now. I'm just wondering that if apple support will refuse to provide apple care service for the future possible hardware malfunctions, which might not result from this accident.

I'm sure a certain amount of subjectivity will enter into any decision they make, such that they can either reasonably exclude or otherwise include the accidental drop resulting in damage having played a role in some future failure.
As such, I don't think the drop will necessarily result in automatic exclusion from coverage, but it may, if such a failure could reasonably been caused by this physical damage incident.

HT1202 I get how you can transfer purchases from a device to computer but what about the hundreds of songs on my iPad that were from CDs and non purchased? How can you move them from iPAd to computer if it wants to erase and sync?

I am needing to transfer ALL content, not just purchased, to new computer and it wants to erase and sync because device is associated with another Library. Please help!

What was the source to get that content onto the iPad?
There has to be a middleman to get from CD to iPad - use
backup of that to get content to new computer.

About the future of Arch Linux Newsletter.

As you may have noticed, I have taken the job to make the Arch Linux weekly newsletter a possibility again. I the time I've been doing them, we speak of about 3 weeks, I have enjoyed writing them and have received very positive comments from the community that reads them. I would like to thank all of you personally for the support, you are the community and yours are the newsletter. But, as you all may have noticed the newsletter has been in an unchanged format for quite a long time. I mean, I just added the Humor section thats all, I know there is an email address to which you can all write your suggestions to, but I find people communicate and express themselves better on the forums.
So what I will ask of you, dear readers, suggestions of sections I should add/remove/edit, I will appreciate your constructive criticism in general. Express your thoughts in this thread to help me make a better more quality newsletter.
In other news, the newsletter won't be weekly no more, as Jason Chu and I have talked about, is easier to maintain a 2 time a month newsletter than 4 times a month, also the Arch Linux Developers/Community doesn't make that much noise as the other major distributions, we tend to be a bit quieter. The bright side is, the newsletter will be written with more time at hand, more stuff to write about, and will contribute to a better quality overall.
What has been suggested so far and I will work out on the next issue of the newsletter?
* Change the Bugs stats to not reflect the overall percentage but the actual bugs opened and closed that week.
As Roman Kyrylych points out: "They show a summary of status field "Progress" in open reports, but in 99% this field goes straight from 0% to 100%, so the overall number is always very low and doesn't really show anything".
So I wait for your suggestions as well.;)

I ask for your opinion again on the subject of the stats section in the newsletter, Do you find this an important part that should stay there?
I mean, this is going to be the most tedious, time-taking and in my opinion useless section I will have to write for the newsletter. I do want to bring a high quality newsletter but I feel this part doesn't contribute to the quality of the newsletter at all, Why?
* Newsletters that include this section are mostly from distributions that has point releases and not rolling releases.
* The number will always increase with minimum decrease because as a rolling release system Arch Linux is every package keep being updated everyday to newer versions, opening and closing more bugs by itself.
* People might not be interested in how many bugs are and how many are closed every week, since this numbers aren't even provided on the bug system itself.
Please give this a consideration and tell me your opinions.

Preview 3 & an announcement about the future of PB3D

We have just released preview 3 of Pixel Bender 3D (PB3D) http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbender3d. This is the best preview to date in terms of reliability and stability. Please look at the release notes (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/pixelbender3d/releasenotes.html) for the details.
PB3D remains an experiment, where we are exploring the utility of the language for high-level authoring of Stage 3D shaders. Workflows remain command-line based, and it is still easy to write programs that exceed the limitations of Stage 3D. To spend the resources to address the workflow issue would require a significant investment from Adobe, and to justify that we would need extraordinary uptake from the developer community. Please regard the current state of the system as an opportunity to evaluate whether the language is a useful design for your needs, and let us know if you would adopt it for main-line use given a more convenient workflow or language changes, or if it is useful in its current form. Unless PB3D gains significant momentum in the next few months, this is likely to be the last release.
Please note that this announcement only concerns Pixel Bender 3D. Pixel Bender 2D and Flash Player Stage 3D remain unchanged.

I'm surprised there hasn't been much response to this announcement.
On the other hand I think it's far too early to draw any conclusions, even in the next few months. Flash 11 and AIR 3 have only recently been publically released and it will take some time for it to become part of the real world landscape. Indeed it will take more time than previous releases of the Flash pltform. There is a steep learning curve involved for a lot of developers when it comes to 3D and many will be holding back on climbing that curve until there are some stable frameworks to help them. And framework developers will have been holding back on commiting to something like PB3D until it was more of a public release/standard.
Clearly something like PB3D will be required - ie. a high level shading language. But if it's not PB3D it will be something else. There is no doubt about that.
Now there is some community work being done on alternatives. The first alternatives are going to be (or already are) attempts at AGAL compilers for existing shader languages: Cg/HLSL/GLSL (which I'll collectively call SL). This was obviouly going to happen irregardless of PB3D, if only because there is an existing body of shaders (and knowledge) already concocted in such languages. On the other hand PB3D is sufficiently similar to SL that you wouldn't necessarily need to write an AGAL compiler for SL. You could manually rewrite an SL shader to PB3D, or otherwise explore a simple SL to PB3D parser. And compile to AGAL from there.
In addition to community alternatives there is also some company work being done. The Unity 3D framework team have made an early commitment to producing a Flash Export option in their 3D framework (and not just binary export but code export as well). And since Unity already has support for existing SLs, then those using Unity wouldn't ever need to touch something like PB3D.
But on another front, and this is somewhat counter-intuitive, there are a number of developers who have actually warmed to writing shaders directly in AGAL, or learning how to do that. While it might have started out as a necessity, there is also the security in knowing that AGAL is now a permanent feature of the Flash 3D pipeline. One can afford to spend time learning it, knowing that it's out of the labs and in the real world, ie. that it's not going to evaporate. One can make a commitment.
This sort of thing is not to be underestimated.
Until PB3D becomes (or at least promises to be) an official release, adoption by developers is going to be tentative. Non-commital. A maybe. And with PB3D management being in the same tentative state - that's two "maybes" depending on each other for something more than a maybe - the result of which can only be (surely) a collapse of commitment on both sides.
But where would PB3D go if it continued development anyway? Does the spec require more work? Probably not. It's a good spec. That leaves the implementation. Certainly there is some remaining work to be done on the implementation. But being an experiment there isn't necessarily any need to complete an implementation. In that scenario, what might be useful is if the spec was made open to third party implementations. The spec itself is really quite good. But that's just me saying that. Would anyone commit to a third party implementation? I probably wouldn't. I don't have the time. What would be required is not just a completed implementation but a competitive implementation - ie. one that generates highly optimised AGAL bytecode as well as (or better than) any other SL to AGAL complier could. That's where PB3D would have takers.
Now the spec itself, while good, does have some limitations. This would not necessarily be appreciable until you started trying to use PB3D to solve real world problems. If you look at how a shader language has evolved in Unity (for example) you see that a macro language has evolved around traditional SLs. The macros act as shortcuts (ie. quick dev time) when in a tight corner. How might PB3D be reframed in terms of a macro language? Would we have to see otherwise nicely colour coded PB3D turning an homegenous red inside CDATA tags?
PB3D is a necessity. Or it's equivalent. Even incomplete ones.

I think dotted and dashed lines with gradients sounds useful. I won't have to go to Illustrator and back to get those functions.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY
I would like to see some other upgrades to the pen tool and vector masks:
• All too often I can't really see the pen tool line when I am making a vector selection – it gets lost in the clutter. Could there be an option to assign a color to the path? Hot green or magenta?
• I would like to be able to change the size that vector points display. If I could make the points appear slightly larger it would often make editing easier.
• I would like to be able to select two points very close to one another and JOIN them like in AI. I don't understand why the pen tool doesn't share more of the functions of the pen tool in Illustrator such as CUT. It sometimes seems like the vector tools in Photoshop and Illustrator were developed completetly independent of one another.
Attached (I hope) are images demonstrating how hard it can be to see paths. Can you see the paths? In the first image the path is there, not selected. In the second the path is selected. This makes my work very irritating sometimes.

About the future of flash

Guys i take my foot towards flash but some people tell me that flash will die after the release of HTML5 and css3 and javascript is that true?????

Resolving the specs for these new things has been and will continue to be slow going... nothing to worry about in the near term.
For Flash to die it has to be replaced by something as useable as it. Alot of folks that fight against Flash do so blindly, thinking it is only useful for making images appear and disappear on web pages. Whenever someone describes what will replace Flash, a list of things have to be grouped together. The combination of all the things needed to make that happen (and probably still come up short of Flash's potential) will challenge even the most talented of web designers... so even if the technologies combined can equate to a Flash solution in every design scenario, I doubt you'll find that many folks willing to figure out (aka: learn) all the pieces of that puzzle. There'll be a new wave of downloadable plug-ins that no one can understand or modify... likely leading to the eventual creation of something that starts resembling Flash more and more each year.

Does anyone know about the future of movies on Icloud??

I spent a ton of money on movies and lost them all when I reinstalled windows 7. I am hoping that Apple will give them back to us when they have it on icloud like music. Does anyone have information about being able to get the movies back from icloud? Does Apple realize that people will buy more movies if they don't have to buy them again?

I have read your response in other discussions and this may seem like a stupid question, but how can Apple allow redownloads of TV shows? They obviously don't own those either. Do they work out some type of agreement with the distributors of the TV shows that allows them to offer this feature?

Two questions about the future 17" display

1. Will we have still an option for 1680x1050? Is there any official info about that?
2. Is matte screen officially out of the picture?
I'm PC user for life, but there is none 17" notebooks besides VAIO and MBP that meets my standards and since VAIO's are not available with matte screen I was willing to buy a MBP and run Win XP in it. But now I read that it's not available with matte screen and 1680x1050 resolution and both are must features for me as I'm graphic desinger and I can't stand any random extra shapes on my screen. 1680x1050 for reason that 1920x1200 is way too much for 17" screen.

And the answer to both these questions is that I'm not talking about Apple's Time Machine software.
Apple's resolutions are quite sharp on the 17" matte displays. I've never had a problem with them.

I would add, higher resolution on displays does NOT mean higher image quality. I've seen cases where too many pixels per inch were added, actually worsened the image quality of the display.
