Interface artifacts in Safari 3

After installing the 10.4.11 update for Mac OS X, I had no problems launching Safari 3, but noticed that typing or pasting a URL into the address field worked fine. Unfortunately, creating a new Tab or opening a URL from Mail or even a bookmark create visual artifacts in the menu of the browser window; black, hexagon-shaped spaces between buttons, and what looks like another unified menubar behind that.
Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to solve the problem?

It's not about building a better card!
it's that ati use pure hardware power and as there hardware is already extremely powerfull they dont need to resort to optomizing their drivers to get a game to play as NVIDIA does just look as the case where NVIDIA was caught cheating in driver benchmarks for instance just to hide how rubbish their hardware really is and this view comes from a previous owner of a NVIDIA card!
That's why I choose An ATI X800XT PE ahead of a 68OOULTRA

  • Curious artifact in Safari 6.1.3

Has anyone else noticed with Safari 6.1.3 (I'm currently using OS 10.7.5) that the little blue dot below the dock icon that's supposed to show the app is active is missing? I haven't noticed any problems with the app other than this minor anomoly.
And the first person suggesting that I "repair permissions" should be boiled in silicon and sentenced to using a PowerMac running System 7 on a 12" monitor for all eternity!!!

  • Safari interface is painfully slow but broadband speed fine

Hi there - for the last few days using the interface on my Safari has been paaaaainfully slow (writing text, changing tab, scrolling etc). However my broadband speed seems fine (8.7MB). Any suggestions for how to fix the interface speed? I have shut down iPhoto and iTunes but no improvement.
Bizarrely writing this right now is working fine but moving between tabs and writing in Gmail are still very slow...
I am not very tech savvy so any simple suggestions would be very much appreciated - thank you!

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions
Some routers are better than others on a Mac. It's all about the firmware and the degree of compatibility built into it by the developer. Make sure you have the latest Netgear firmware installed on the router. Check the support page on Netgear's site.
Also, in the Netgear Router preference panel, add these DNS server codes, which may facilitate the page loading on the Mac - 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222. There are OpenDNS codes, which have been shown to be much more efficient for Safari than those used by Internet Providers.

  • Safari Interface Language

How can I change Safari interface language?
Safari interface language base on OS language setting, now I want to use English Safari interface in Chinese OS.
    What can I do?
    Windows system.

Thanx! I finally solved this problem with language. But I use a little different procedure, than you write.
When I try to do it exactly as you say, by rename or delete folder "en.lproj" first and then rename folder "pl.lproj" to "en.lproj" it didn't work. On start, Safari first display communicate (in Polish, actually) "Wait! Windows configured Safari system" and "Necessary files are downloaded..." with progress bar, then Safari start, but still in English.
But I try to do it in a little different way. I copy all content of "pl.lproj" into "en.lproj" folder, overwriting existing files. Finally it works! Now I have Safari with Polish interface. Once more thanks!

  • Gmail crashes Safari and FireFox in Mac OSX 10.9.2

I'm getting a  crash with both Safari and Firefox. As soon as I try to open up any email in gmail using the standard interface it crashes.  If I use the HTML interface there is no crash but I'm also missing gmail features.   Firefox about:crashes shows the crash occurs in Firefox when it invokes the AudioToolbox from Mozilla's AppleMP3Reader.cpp.  I have no idea why it attempts to process an MP3 file when just opening up the interface.
The Safari trace shows the crashing thread has the following stack.
Thread 2 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: URLAssetWorkQueue

Once again, the crash is down inside the AudioToolbox.
This is on a two year old MacBook Pro  running OSX 10.9.2 and it only started after the update to the OS.

Finally Got it!!!  Ok, here is what i did: it was a combination of two things i read in different forums.
1st: Go to System Preferences>Security and Privacy and in the "allow apps downloaded from: " section, select "Anywhere".   There is a file in the installation bundle from adobe that is not recognized as coming from an "identified developer".   I then went back to the adobe page and re downloaded most recent flash player.  Tried to reinstall it, and again the same problem as before.  Stopped at 50% asking to close Safari.  So i did the following:
2nd: This time instead of closing Safari by pressing the red button X, I pulled down the safari tab and clicked on exit safari command.  Clicked the retry button on the installation window and magic!!!! it worked.
Finally after 5 frustrating hours it worked....  I never thought i would run in to such a problem with a brand new Mac....  with the money i paid for it, would expect much easier performance in the upgrading process.... and compatibility with adobe.... an issue that should have been resolved long ago.  I guess its a problem on both sides....  some clearer instructions for upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

  • Severe Safari graphical glitches MacBook Pro Retina 15"

Hello. I have been having these annoying glitches since the day I bought my MacBook Pro Retina 15" on December 2012. These are not those almost invisible glitches present on the support topics currently. They are incredibly large, sometimes filling an entire webpage with a blank rectangle or parts from other pages (even tabs that were already closed).
I am absolutelly sure this is something to do with the crappy Intel HD Graphics 4000 board, because these gliches only occur while I am with the "Automatic graphics switching" option selected.
I have also noted this only happens on websites that use a lot of javascript animations.
    Let's put this in topics:
    The problem happens when:
Using automatic graphics switching (using Intel HD Graphics Board)
Using Safari 6.0.2 and Mac OS 10.8.2
Browsing websites with heavy javascript animations
    The problem disappears when:
NOT using graphics switching (using Nvidia board)
Using any other browsers (tried Chrome and Firefox)
What I have tried and did not fix my problem
    Fixing permissions
    Resetting the SMC
    Here are some examples:
And now some examples with the graphics switching off (Using the Nvidia board)
Any advice would be very welcome. Thank you for reading!

    Apple - Feedback
Have seen similar lines and artifacts on Safari on my 13" MBP.  It's a software bug and based on your additional findings, linked to bad drivers for the Intel 4000 chipset.  File your findings with Apple on that Feedback page for your respective system.  Make sure you provide all the info like you did here.  Someone will eventually see it and add it to the engineering things to fix if it hasn't already been addressed in the soon to be released 10.8.3 build.

  • Weird Color Issue in Safari.

If I use a second monitor attached to my MBPro (its a Viewsonic 2230) I see these strange artifacts in Safari. A band of the safari window turns a little dark. If I scroll up or down I can 'wipe' it away but it'll come back.
It ONLY happens in the safari window (ie it doesnt cover the entire screen)
It ONLY happens when the second monitor is attached
It happens in both the laptop screen and the second monitor when attached.
If I detach the monitor the color disappears. Anyone got any ideas what's causing this?
I'm looking at http://www.surfline.com in case its site related.

Sorry - please ignore - posted in wrong forum.

  • Safari photo quality

I just finished creating a website using iweb and I noticed that when I click on the thumbnails of some images in Safari, the contrast decreases and I see lots of arifacts in the shadows and more grain than the original photo. Its very noticeable on powerbook screens for some reason or when the brightness is on high and there is a generic color profile used like cinema display or LCD color.
    Here's the site: www.eriktomasson.com
When I use Firefox then the photos are displayed closer to their original quality.
I basically saved the photos in highest quality in jpg format at 800x600 in photoshop and dragged them into iweb. You can really see the artifacts in the top photo of the dancer in red on the floor (top middle.) The same files in photoshop are perfectly clean with no problems.
Any ideas what can be done to decrease those artifacts in safari?
    Thanks in advance
    Dual 2.5 G5

    Hi Tools,
Try turning off the accelerator, I'll bet that is the culprit.
The accelerators usually downsample the picture quality to reduce the filesize of the images at the expense of quality, but improving speed.
I think they usually work by directing requests to a proxy server - in firefox you normally have to set this manually which may be why it appears to work fine, but Safari doesn't.
Enjoy your sleep and catch you tomorrow...

  • Safari 5.1 for Windows not updating to Safari 6?

My Safari won't update to Safari 6. I cant find it on Apple's website and it has been out for Mountain Lion for a while now, and I REALLY want iCloud tabs and stuff so i can browse the same stuff across all of my devices. Chrome does it, but i hate chrome user interface and prefer Safari.

Safari 6 for Windows is not available for Windows as it is not released by Apple.
Safari 5.1.7 is the latest version available for Windows.

  • Syncing Google Gmail Contacts with Address Book and iPhone Contacts

Can anyone recommend a good way to sync Google Gmail Contacts with the Address Book on the Mac and with Contacts on the iPhone?
I tried using ABGMerge, but could not get it to work so and am looking for other options. Thanks.

The Plaxo 3 non-pubic beta application currently supports only Mozilla and FireFox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 6. Safari support, and support for updated OS X thrid-party browsers, has not yet been released. To say that there are some anomalies and visual artifacts with Safari 2, would be an understatement. But, then, I often find this to be the case with beta—particularly, pre-public beta, software.
The current release—build 356—supports these 'sync points:'
    • Mac OS X through a System Preferences pane
    • AOL and AIM
    • LinkedIn
    • mobile access
    • MSN and WIndows Live
    • Outlook
    • Outlook Express
    • Windows Mail
    • Yahoo
It does not yet support Google. Or, not yet reliably or completely. The little 'hippo' that pops up periodically in the beta says, "Google Calendar Sync has been temporarily disabled. We are working diligently to resolve the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience."
The verdict at the moment: contact synchronization performs as it always has with Plaxo. Calendar synchronization is clearly not yet ready for prime-time, even to the Plaxo 3 web interface itself.

  • Hide Menu bar and disable dock.

s there a way to Hide the Menu bar?
(there must be a way because it gets hidden when watching a movie in full screen in vlc or any other app)
and is there a way to disable (not hide) the dock?
    thanks.

Is there a way to Hide the Menu bar?
The menubar is a consistent interface artifact in Mac OS X and Macs in general which never changes its location, unlike Windows which attach menubars to specific applications. If your purpose is a kiosk style web browser, there is Saft for Safari. Other web browsers have their own built-in kiosk mode for the Mac.
If you want a menubar to be hidden for other applications, contact the software vendor who makes the software you want the menubar hidden on. Most applications depend on its existence.
The Dock while put on the right hand side of the screen is less likely to get activated by accident, and will activate more slowly than when on the bottom of the screen if you make it unhidden and magnification off, and then automatically hide it with command-option-D keystroke.

  • Hide menu bar, address bar; Determine client screen resolution

    Hi!
    1) Is it possible to create WDA with hidden menu bar, toolbar and address bar in the IE?
    2) Is it possible to determine resolution of client's screen? It's for smart resizing of controls.

And the error i get is [fatal error] null databinding context encountered when creating service.
    Steps i followed:
    1. Created a new project in Jdev
    2. Right clicked on project to expand Business Tier - Web Services nodes. Selected the Java web Service from WSDL.
    3. Selected WSDL to convert
    ---Says it is Fetching WSDL
    ---then says building model
--and pops error : [fatal error] null databinding context encountered.
Any suggestions? I'm unable to get this issue fixed for a long time.

    Hey guys,
I couldnt get this fixed in jdeveloper, i finally gave up on using Jdeveloper for Web service creation.
I went back to my eclipse3.2.2 and used the Eclipse WTP 1.5.4 and guess what, it had no issues generating the service and client for my WSDL.
I am not sure Jdeveloper can compete with Eclipse functionality and ease.

  • The loading image is hideous.

There are two major interface gaffs in Safari 4. The first is moving the tabs back to the bottom without giving the option to leave them on top -- you know, they way they were for the entirety of the beta -- and the second is the loading image.
It's hideous, it's uninformative, and I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind its existence.
People liked the blue bar behind the URL because it was both unobtrusive and informative. With the advent of the Safari 4 beta it was replaced by a spinning icon which was uninformative -- in that it only told you the page was loading, not its progress -- but at least it was unobtrusive.
This new glossy purple monstrosity manages to be both uninformative and obtrusive. It doesn't seem to have any purpose whatsoever. It stands out from the interface so much that my eyes can't help but be drawn to it every time it pops up, and really, what important information is it telling me? "Loading ..." Awesome.
Please, if you're going to do this just go back to the little spinny thing.

My problem was previously there was no apparent indication that loading was still in progress. The spinny wheel wasnt enough to see that the page hadn't loaded, and the new indicator is a big improvement in that area. Really, the exact progress isnt needed, but instead some sort of apparent symbol is good enough. This does the trick, and coupled with information in the status bar (number of "items" left to load), i've found the blue progress bar isnt needed.

  • Gnome - severe graphical glitches, entire DM crashing

For some time, most applications dealing with images started producing glitches - random misplaces rectangles and pixels being copied from the right side of the screen to the left and vice versa. This includes GIMP and Eye Of Gnome - it's almost impossible to work with images like this. Some other applications also cause the "pixel copying" behavior, such as SDL/OpenGL games and Wine. Screenshots usually look different from what I see on the screen! Here's one: http://i.imgur.com/F43Cj.jpg (note the status bar and text behind the date.)
In addition, the entire Gnome crashes seemingly randomly. First I see a tty with the mouse cursor still visible and working, then I'm thrown back to GDM.
I think those issues are related, because Gnome tends to crash more often when I'm trying to reproduce the glitches.
Should I paste the logs somewhere? Which ones?
EDIT: I know it should be "DE" in  the topic name.
