Interface Builder doesn't let me forward events to QC compositions???

The problem is:
Since this morning IB doesn't let me make standalone QC compositions with mouse input. The "forward all events" check box doesn't do anything:/. Its strange, everything was working just fine yesterday. I tried reinstalling developer tools, reseting IBs preferences and nothing helped. What's even stranger is that if i open the MouseTracking.nib from the QC examples folder and simulate, the mouse works fine. but if i uncheck and check "forward all events" then simulate again the mouse doesn't work anymore.
I don't get it:(.

Hi Yusuf,
first u have to get the PRODH from MARA for a give table then  u have to get the text of PRODH frm T179T.
sample logic :
SELECT MARA~MATNR
       MARA~PRDHA
       FROM MARA
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE I_MARA
       WHERE MARA~MATNR IN S_MATNR1.
SELECT PRODH
       VTEXT
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE I_VTEXT
       FROM T179T
       FOR ALL ENTRIES IN I_MARA
       WHERE PRODH =  I_MARA-PRDHA.
dont use Nested Select Stmts.

  • Interface Builder doesn't open

I'm a long time developer, first-time developer for Mac. I've just started to use the Xcode tools. I've used them in the past, but I just got my new MacBook Pro and installed Xcode 3.2.1 (10m2003). I started following one of the application tutorials, building Hello World. After creating the NSView (HelloView), the next step says, "Double click MainMenu.xib and open Interface Builder then blah blah blah". So I double click on MainMenu.xib and nothing happens. I checked the Console Log and found this:
    1/3/10 12:49:33 PM Xcode\[7360\] LSOpenFromURLSpec() returned -10814 for application (null) path /Users/bpwold/projects/Hello/English.lproj/MainMenu.xib.
Then I decided to open Interface Builder from Spotlight, which worked. I opened the MainMenu.xib file from there (which does appear to have opened), but the log also showed:
1/3/10 12:57:54 PM \[0x0-0x215215\].com.apple.InterfaceBuilder3\[7496\] Couldn't open shared capabilities memory GSCapabilities (No such file or directory)
So my question is: Do I have a proper install of XCode? Has something gone wrong with the install. In the past, double clicking on .xib files would produce the desired results, but apparently XCode 3.1.2 on Snow Leopard seems to have a little problem.
Maybe someone else has run into this?

apparently XCode 3.1.2 on Snow Leopard seems to have a little problem.
Not really. The problem is with certain/early style app samples that had xibs created programmatically (back in the stone age), rather then with IB (as most current examples from Apple are).
If you toggle the small triangle next to the offending xib in Xcode's resource window on the left, you should see yet another file...double click that one and IB should respond accordingly. If not, use the Finder and drag/drop instead. If still no joy, find another sample app

  • ICal doesn't let you make events repeat _on all but the_ nth weekday of a m

I am managing a radio station automation setup using iCal, iTunes, GarageBand, and Automator/AppleScript (the station is WRFR-LP FM in Rockland, ME). The workflow is going well with one exception: we have a show that plays on the last friday of every month, and the other fridays a different show plays. The problem here is we can't set up show #2 (which plays every other friday) as a recurring event in iCal. I can't set it up as separate monthly recurring events on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fridays either because some months have 4 fridays and some have 5.
What would be useful is the option to "Repeat monthly (every n months), on every friday EXCEPT the [first, second, third, fourth, last]". The "Except" could be added as a radio button next to "On the" (the two would naturally be exclusive of each other). Perhaps "On all but the" is better wording than "Except".
If this were included in iCal, my situation above could be remedied by adding two events: one for the first show, repeating "monthly every 1 month, on the last friday"; and another for show #2, repeating "monthly every 1 month, ON ALL BUT THE last friday".
    what i have: http://www.csh.rit.edu/~riffraff/icalrepeat.png
a photoshopped mockup of what i would love: http://www.csh.rit.edu/~riffraff/icalrepeatfix.png
is this a logical annoyance to anyone but me?

I did update from an older Mac. All of my calendars are showing up just fine, I'm just having trouble editing events. I can add events just fine from my iPhone or Mac, just can't edit/delete from either. When I edit/delete the event directly from Google Calendar the changes are reflected on the Calendar app just fine.
Additionally, I frequently have to force quit the Calendar app on my Mac due to either not opening at all, or freezing up once it is open.

Hi guys, I created my first iPhone app ever, I tried, OSX 10.6 and Xcode 3.2, I tried to follow some tutorials but I failed on all of them because when I double click the .xib files Interface Builder doesn't show up to customize the interface, what could be the issue?
    Thanks,

What does happen when you double-click on of those files? This may not be related to your problem, but when you do a Finder "Get Info" on one, what do you see for "Open with"?

  • What to do if you use a segmented control in interface builder and it doesn't work ?

What to do if you use a segmented control in interface builder and it doesn't work ?

The first thing to do would probably be to update your profile and/or signature so people will know what OS, language, and development system you are using, then perhaps include some additional information such as what "it doesn't work" means, and possibly a few other things like some error logs, what you have done so far, maybe a code snippet or two, etc.

  • Xcode 3/Interface Builder - Adding classes to NIB file doesn't work

I'm attempting to learn Objective-C and Cocoa GUI through Apple's "Currency Convertor" tutorial. I'm currently at the "Add the ConverterController Class to Your Nib File" step, and I add ConverterController.h to the Interface Builder project (both by Read Class Files and dragging) and... nothing happens. The tutorial clearly states that the class should appear as a new icon in the MainMenu.nib window. I've tried researching this problem, and it appears to be quite common, however every fix isn't really a fix at all. They all involve using the Identity Inspector for something, which appears very complicated, and is otherwise uncovered in the tutorial. It occurs to me that anyone knowing enough to be able to use this fix wouldn't be reading this tutorial, thus making such answers moot. Any help anyone could provide on this issue would be appreciated.

The tutorial you linked to should work fine except that they've just got the illustration (Figure 5-3) in the wrong place.
The placement of that illustration implies that you should see the instance of your class in the MainMenu.nib window right after doing step 2 (where you read your class file). But that's not really true. In reality it's step 3 that gets you the blue box in the MainMenu.nib window and steps 4 and 5 that will transform it from an "Object" into a "ConverterController". Steps 3, 4 and 5 are exactly what Thomvis suggested that you do earlier.

  • Interface builder, running script when app opens

    Hi!
I am trying to expand my wake script, so I have thrown it into xcode. What my wake script does is that it opens itunes and start to slowly turn up the volume, then it updates my ipod and does a few other things.
Now this works great in script editor, I launch this app with a script which is launched by iCal.
The first thing I want to do in xcode is to have a "I am awake" button (also called cancel…). And the only way I have gotten this to work is to have the script like this:
    on clicked theObject
    beep
    try
    tell application "iTunes" to pause
    end try
    quit
    end clicked
    on activated theObject
    -- the script.
    end activated theObject
The reason for using activated is that this is the only handler that I have found that lets me push the cancel button. (If I for example try to use "on launched" the whole script will run, then I can push cancel, kinda defeats the purpose…).
    Any ideas?
ahh, ****, it seems that even the activated handler doesn't work. It looks like I can push cancel, but I can't!
    Message was edited by: Oystbjoe

Once you've pushed "buttonOne" you enter your "repeat" loop and never get out... which also means that your code never returns from your "on clicked" handler. As long as you're stuck inside your "on clicked" handler your app will not receive any more clicked events. Hence your app never gets notified of the second click on your "Cancel" button.
Your previous post indicates you are wanting to be able to start some process (ie your repeat loop) with "buttonOne" but then potentially cancel it before it completes. From a programming standpoint that's not always easy to do... with AppleScript or any other programming language. In some cases it can be fairly difficult. And even if it's not difficult it may not be straightforward.
One way you might be able to do this with AppleScript, depending on what your "processing" entails, is to make use of an "on idle" handler. Your "on idle" handler will be called automatically and periodically. By default "on idle" gets called every 30 seconds but you can change that by returning a positive number from your "on idle" that represents the number of seconds between calls.
Something like this might work, but it's going to depend on whether you can break the work you're wanting to do into chunks such that you can do a little bit at a time and potentially stop between chunks due to a click on the "cancel" button.
    property doSomeProcessing : false
    on clicked theObject
set n to name of theObject
    if n = "butonOne" then
    set doSomeProcesing to true
    return
    end if
    if n = "cancel" then
    set doSomeProcessing to false
    return
    end if
    end clicked
    on idle
    if doSomeProcessing then
    beep
-- or do a _small chunk_ of the actual work you want to do
    end if
    return 1
    end idle
Basically your button clicks just turn a flag on or off indicating whether you need to be doing some processing or not. All of the actual processing is done in small chunks inside your "on idle" handler. So each time your idle handler gets called you check the value of the flag. If you're supposed to be doing some processing then you do a little bit of work and return. NOTE that the "return 1" statement in the "on idle" handler is what changes the default of every 30 seconds so that it gets called every second.
I created an AS Studio application with the code above. And I also created a separate plain vanilla AppleScript that tells the AS Studio to have one or the other of the buttons to "perform action" (as indicated in my earlier post). By running the plain vanilla AppleScript I'm able to trigger the AS Studio app to start/stop beeping every second. So whether or not you can do this mainly depends on what you're trying to accomplish and whether or not it can be broken into chunks that can be done within an idle handler.
    Steve
PS - also note that in an AS Studio application you need to activate the "idle" handler in Interface Builder in a manner similar to how you activated the "clicked" handler for your buttons. Select the "Application" icon in the MainMenu.nib window then click the "idle" checkbox in the AppleScript Info Panel.

  • Range of Variable in Web Interface Builder

    Hi,
I have created a Web Interface Builder in BW-BPS. I have created Cost Center as a Variable. However, I am unable to get this range of cost centers say 1001 to 1005 in Web Inteface Builder.
Whereas, in the Planning Folder, this works fine and I am able to select the range of Cost Centers from 1001 to 1005.
The issue is only with WEB INTERFACE BUILDER.
Looking forward for some valueable inputs.

  • (OSX) Interface Builder 3 examples?

Is 10.5 supposed to come with different Developer/examples samples? I ask because I'm looking for an example of using Interface Builder to work with toolbars, and everything in my Examples folder looks like it's old Interface Builder 2.x where the toolbars are all done manually in the code.
A quick search of the apple dev. site doesn't bring anything up...
    thanks.

In my experience, Apple's otherwise good examples lean towards programmatic deployment, rather than IB insider tips, etc.
I've learned to look off-world for clone-worthy IB samples.
I've also found that there seems to be two camps when it comes to P vs. IB. My take on it is that visual types gravitate towards IB, where hands-on types prefer inside Obj-C.
In my case, IB lets me prototype at a pace that suits my discovery-to-effort ratios. I can wire things up fast and far enough to get a glimpse of what I want without wading into the deep end until I find something worth committing to.
Just remember that IB is late-to-the party, and reference examples are still being grown...might be a bit longer before a substantial number of examples are easily found, and even then, they will risk being made obsolete (by degree, of course) as new SDKs w/new deprecations, etc. surface.

  • Organising items in Interface Builder

I have a number of problems with handling container hierarchies and object groups in Interface Builder.
    1. If I Group a number of items (say a slider and its labels), this does not mean that I can move the entire group as a unit - I still have to Shift-click all the individual items to get them to move. If I Cut a group, then only the subitems I have selected will be Cut, but if I Copy, then the entire group will be copied. This strikes me as somewhat inconsistent.
    2. If I create a Box and create items in it, those items will align with the Box and follow it around if I move the Box. But if I Cut or Copy an item from one Box and then place it in another box, it will not be a subitem of that Box, and will not follow when the Box is moved. I have not been able to find a way to indicate a new parent to a relocated item, is there one?
    3. Sometimes I can drag across a box to select subitems in it, sometimes dragging will instead cause the box to move. I have not been able to discern a clear pattern, does anyone know what the preconditions are for selection one way or the other?
    4. The on-line manual for Interface Builder is rather superficial and does not cover questions such as these, nor do the books on XCode/Objective C that I've looked in. Is there any document or collection of notes that goes into further details on the functions of Interface Builder?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Interface Builder 2.5.4

    Hi Kai,
    1. What you mention first is not what I see as far as I can tell - If you have a bunch of controls, drag over to select them all and group them together (⌘G) a dotted line appears and surrounds the group. I cannot move any one member of the group without the whole group moving as well - expected behaviour. However, your observation of cutting and copying seems correct. Perhaps the 'cut' operation should remove the entire group to the clipboard as copy does, leaving the currently witnessed behaviour for the 'delete' key.
    2. Yes. Drag it over the box and let go, then click and hold without moving it and you should notice the shading change a little followed by a green plus icon if you then move it. Drop this now and it'll become a subitem of the box. This also works in reverse.
    3. Click somewhere outside the box to deselect it. Click somewhere in the box - but not on any of the contents - eight selection dots should appear around it. This is the box itself selected and dragging will now move the whole box and contents (again, don't hit any of the items inside when dragging). Click somewhere outside again to deselect it. Now double click somewhere inside it (not on items) and a sort of blue lined box with tick marks on it should appear - this shows that the inside is selected and dragging will select items in it rather than move the whole thing. This can also be observed by directly clicking on one of the items inside (puts you straight inside it).
    4. Not sure, you sort of pick these things up by trial and error and reading posts and such like (very much like some of the more lesser known OS tricks, modifier keys, etc). There may well be a nice collection of tips on the net somewhere but I haven't come across it yet...
IB seems a little flaky on some of this stuff, especially when repeating actions like putting something into a box, then removing it, then putting it back in, etc. Seems it loses the plot somewhere and you have to dump it and grab another one. Same sort of thing with messing about with matrices - often it starts to misbehave. Hopefully all this sort of thing and what others have complained about from time to time are the result of minimal updates to IB over the last couple of years. Here's looking forward to IB 3!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Looking for simple sample of iphone apps without using Interface Builder

I successfully went through the 'iphone app tutorial' and used Interface Builder, but now want to try creating apps without it.
The UI Catalog sample is too complex, but didn't see anything that just had a view and a button or label.
Ideally I want code that doesn't require any IB usage, but I can't tell if that is possible yet...
Anyone have a link to an easy sample?
Or has anyone created a test app themselves and wouldn't mind posting?
I took a stab at creating one and posted it on the "101" forum, but it would be hard for somebody to try and figure out what I was attempting
