Interface for elderly people

Hi,
Anybody knows if there is a version of Skype that would work on Adroid tablet that whould be adapted for elderly people? (No complex interface, large text and buttons, simple logic, simple management for more than one call at the same time, etc.) (It could be interesting to show the caller if the person is already talking with somebody, so we do not need to stress with 2 calls at same time)
Or if people at Skype (Microsoft) are working on it or already got this idea for a necessary thing if we want to include elderly people in our day-to-day connections?
Any estimated date of availability?

That's actually a good idea (but I don't think such a version exists, at least officially). There's a company in Sweden (Doro) making cell phones and smartphones with easy, big-button interfaces and simple functionality - primarily aimed at the elderly. Their stocks are up because they have apparently caught onto a big and growing market.

  • Skype for elderly people

I am evaluating the use of Skype for elderly people.   This is aimed at housebound people who can't use a PC and would require a TV based system.
The main use would be the support of elderly people by family, friends, Social Services, doctors etc.
I was interested to learn that you can play chess with Skype.
Are there any plans to develop other games such as Bridge, Whist and other board games?

The TV manufacturer is the one that is in the end creating the Skype interface for the TV, so it really is up to them on what they add.

  • Are there simple user instructions for elderly people?

I bought a 2Gb Nano for my 82 year old dad. All he wants to do is learn how to use the basic functions to listen to the music I have already dowloaded for him. Are there some very simple user instructions available for IT-unsophisticated and elderly people?

  • Minimize interface for elderly

    hi,
i'm wondering if there is a piece of software or way of setting up so that i can setup a mac with large icons for email, web, and maybe chat/skype on the finder, with no other menubars, etc.
the reason for this is so that my grandma could possibly use a mac for purely emailing and chat rather than on her tiny mobile which isn't healthy.
i was wondering if software or setup similar to stores where they just have demo applications or minimal finder settings, if something can be done so that there is just one click actions and very easy, large fonts for email, chat and maybe web, i can setup something easy for her...
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks!

I believe except for Skype the applications she would use are already located in the Dock. You can add Skype to the Dock and remove any other applications she would not use. Use the Dock's sizing gadget to enlarge the size of the Dock to what would be a satisfactory size up to the width of the screen.
Alternatively create a new folder on the Desktop. Open the folder and configure its position and size on the screen. Place aliases to the desired applications in the folder. Set the folder to Icon View and press COMMAND-J. Check the box to always open in Icon View, set the desired icon size, and the grid size. Check the option to display by Name, then click on the Set as Default button. Leave the window open and close any other open windows. When the computer restarts it should restart with the window open by default.
If you don't find the above suitable then there are numerous third-party launchers that can check out at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
BTW, other assistance for elderly users can be found in the Universal Access preferences to assist with hearing and/or vision impairments as well as some motor impairment.

  • What is the best iPad to get for elders/old people?

    Hello.
What is the best iPad model to get for old people/elders who are over 60 years old? I assume iPads' iOS can do DPI to adjust sizes for bigger
visuals. Also, it needs to work well with both English and Chinese
    Thank you in advance.

All iPads can read and write Chinese and can also have Chinese user interface.  They can even accept Chinese handwriting input.  Plus Chinese SIRI, Dictation, and Dictionaries.  See

  • Can't sync Digi 002 as an interface for Logic Pro 7

I discovered Logic about a year after I had already purchased a Digi 002, and have been using it as my interface for Logic Express for about 6 months.  No problems.  I upgraded to Logic Pro 7 last month and now get only garbled sound and the following error message. "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi.  Sample rate 88215 recognized.  Check conflict between Logic and External Device."
I am trying to run Logic Pro 7.  I still also use Pro Tools LE version 7.0 which runs fine.  I can play itunes songs, Garage Band, movies, Pro Tools songs, etc., no problem, but not Logic Pro, or Logic Express.
When I switch to Built In Audio, Logic Pro works fine through the tiny built in speaker, but trying to use the Digi 002 as my interface all the sound comes out garbled.
I have been pulling out my hair for weeks.  Any help would be much appreciated.

The digi people also recommended buying the update for 7.3 and then updating to 7.3.cs4.  I am going to give that a try.  What does Pro App Support 4.0 do and where do I find it if you think that might help me?
That is what I'm running, and it works great. Give it a shot. You can do a search on this forum, or on the Apple Support section of the website, and search for that term (Pro Application Support).
Yes I have learned my lesson with auto update.  Live and learn.
Yes. Remember, a DAW machine is NOt a regular computer you can do whatever with. Audio software and hardware are finicky creatures that don't play nice if you're messing with their operating system willy-nilly.
I spoke with the Apple Store people today as well.  They suggest I spend $100 and sign up for one on one support and bring the whole **** set up in to the store and let them work on it. Seeing as how I am using a G5 tower, and we are talking about a digi 002 board, that is going to be alot of fun to lug across the mall.   I am just about that desperate though.  Any thoughts on one on one support in store?
LOL!!! they just want your money, and will most defniintely screw up your system. They'll update wrong, install stuff you don't want, and re-configure your system to THEIR liking. Stay away from the genius Bar. When it comes to Pro audio, they really know little or nothing. As an example, I went to my local Apple store recently and asked for a copy of Logic Pro. the helpful guy there responded "Logic what? we don't have that kind of software here."
    Thanks for the help.  Again.
You're welcome. Hopefully soon you'll have it up and running.

  • Best strategies for setting up iPad for elderly person?

I hope to eventually get an iPad 3 for an elderly parent and I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about it.
Here is what I was thinking:
    - get iPad.
    - set up iPad using iTunes account that I create from a spare email address I have access to.
    - get some iTunes cards via my own account and load it into the new account.
    - install apps, fiddle with settings, set up iCloud, possibly load it with photos, etc.
    - send iPad to them.
    - change email address on the new account to reflect their actual email address.
    - Is it correct in that no credit card would need to be entered by them at any point?
    - I have tweaked iChat on their laptop to auto-answer incoming video chats.  It sounds like there is no such setting on Facetime, right?   Is it still pretty easy to accept Facetime calls on the iPad (I've only used it via OS X).   From reading some past threads it sounds like there is no way to make a shortcut so that a specific contact could be called in one click (i.e. icon on dock), is that still the case?  (a Siri on iPad would help with this)
    - I currently do not do much photo sharing via Apple devices.  What is the easiest/best way to have them be able to view a gallary of images that one or more people can add things to remotely?  Do I have to turn to third-party apps to do this?
    - Any other general recommendations on getting a iPad set up for someone (especially the elderly) who are physically far away (and thus who won't get hands-on training from the person setting it up, but from people who are iPad savvy)?
I envision them mainly using it for: video chat, solitaire, email reading (not heavy email composing), light web, photo taking/sharing, etc.
    Thanks,

    Hi Captino,
Please note I sent this earlier today to the thread you posted on yesterday.
If you haven't yet, in the box near the top right on your posts only, click on receive e-mail notifications. Then you won't have to search through to find any responses you might get from the threads you are participating in.
One of my big concerns is that Apple should advertise to seniors with or without many of the issues that often accompany aging. The ipad's target audience did not start out advertising to toddlers, but we know they're using them and they are included in the new iphone 5 for photos and itunes. So let's get the increasing elderly population involved.
First, you might want to contact Apple corp offices in Cupertino and see if someone will listen to your suggestions. (I have sent them the links below.) The more Apple is aware that there is a real  need, they will hopefully increase focus and develop more to make the ipad usable for our elderly with needs, which varies from person to person.
I'd also like to suggest you start your own thread, posting in the title something like "How can an elderly person with dimentia benefit from ipad?" Then, copy the info you wrote in your post above here.
Here are some links that might interest you. The information is out there that many elderly people with needs can be helped by and are benefitting using an ipad. There are also links to support user forums.

  • Need information on how to create Idoc Inbound Interfaces for Business Sys

    Hi,
    I'm losing it.
Can anyone point me to some documentation or an example of how to create inbound interfaces for Business Systems in PI 7.1.
    Here's the scenario
I'm working on a B2B integration process which sends inbound idocs to an ECC 6.0 system.
I've created the Business System communication component  but under the Inbound Interfaces it is blank.
I want to have MBGMCR.MGBMCR03 as an inbound interface.
But I forget how to get it there.
For Business components you can just add the inbound interface.
I've already defined the Business System in the SLD pointed it to the correct Tech System, imported the idoc definitions in the Enterprise Service Builder and set up IDX1, IDX2 to ensure the metadata exists in PI.
But for Business systems the hep says that it's got to come from the SLD.
    Outbound/Inbound Interfaces
For each business system, the interfaces that are installed on the business system are also entered in the SLD. These interfaces are displayed in this frame. You cannot add any other interfaces.
I know I've done this before, but I can't remember how.
    Cheers,
    John

  • What is host bus interface for pavilion dv7 1448dx

I'm thinking of Installing a usb 3 ExpressCard/54 in a Pavllion dv7 1448dx. Does anyone know where I can find out if the host bus interface of the 1448dx ExpressCard slot is Gen 1.0 enabled or Gen 2.0 enabled.
That will tell me if it's worth the efffort to add a USB 3 express card. According to the manufacturer of the card if the interface is Gen 1 the throughput is 2.5 Gbps and if the interface is  Gen 2 then the throughput is 5Gbps.

  • Assigning multiple interfaces for Oracle API Gateway (OAG)

We are deploying Oracle API Gateway to throttle our incoming API requests. We would like to keep the incoming external API requests separate from the internal configuration management so that they go through different interfaces when accessing the OAG server. This is mainly for security reasons so that the external people won’t have access to the interface used by internal operations team to manage OAG. Based on your experience, is there any standard best practice to accomplish this? We were thinking to perhaps use two of the server’s network interfaces with different IPs, one for the incoming API requests and the other for the internal admin management of OAG. But not sure if this is the best way to do what we need. We are aware of OAG's capability to support two separate ports to handle this situation, but would like a more secure set-up that could completely eliminate external access to the OAG management done by the IT team.
Would appreciate any thoughts on best practices used regarding multiple interfaces for OAG set-up. Thank you. Oracle Marketing Cloud.

You are on the right track.
Here is how you can achieve this:
You can use multiple network interfaces on the UNIX machine and setup networking/routing in such a way that all external traffic comes on on one card and is routed internally via a different card.
Segregate difference types of services (i.e to be used by external clients vs internal apps) into difference different "Service Groups". Have each of these service groups listen on different port + NIC card (under Listeners, you can define a port to list to list on a specific network address and port instead of *).
Setup additional protection for services that will be accessed by external clients. Use "Threatening Content " filter to protect your services.
Setup 2 way SSL for the interface that will be called by external clients. Setup a DN based authorization check if you want to have both authentication and authorization.
    Hope this helps.
    -Thanks,

  • Best Audio Interface for Macbook Pro

Hey I'm looking into getting a new Macbook and wondering what the best option for portable audio interfaces is... I know RME has a PCI card that might be able to work... I'd like to avoid using the firewire bus because I'd like to use FW drives fairly intensively for audio playback. But from what I have seen, it seems like the Express 34 audio interface is a rarity, with FW being the most common interface type.
I'm not interested in comments from users who only know and use one interface...but prefer rather comments from people who have compared or researched multiple choices.
    Thank!

your question is easy to get lots of responses, but difficult to come up with any truths... mainly because much of this question is very very qualitatively different for different people.
where to start with some of the questions...
do you need low latency - do multi-track recordings, or simply audio down in independent takes?
how many channels do you need to record at any 1 time?
here are some of the items that i have been looking at, personally...
Grace Design Lunatec V3 - with toslink optical digital option.
    http://www.gracedesign.com/products/V3/lunatecV3.htm
can be battery powered. great preamps and A/D converter. no integrated monitoring option. only does 2 channels. the MBP has an optical digital input, so the optional optical output model could be hooked up directly to the MBP without any intermediate interface
    Apogee Mini-Me USB option
    http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/miniseries.php
can be battery powered. great preamps and A/D converter. integrated monitoring option. only does 2 channels and up to 48KHz sampling rate. built in compression / limiting can be useful to some, but not others.
Apogee also has the firewire option card coming up and the reason that I suggested the Mini-Me with USB option vs. FW, is that you could also get a Mini-DAC equipped with FW and then when you need to, can plug the digital output of the Mini-Me into the Mini-DAC and use the FW interface (with up to 96k up / 192k down) to the computer... so would basically have the choice of USB or FW with this combo.
obviously the above options are very limited and hardly qualify as "interfaces" in the traditional sense, unless you have very minimal I/O requirements, but my application requires only 2 channels and battery power for me is a must.
my idea of portable might also be different than yours. that expresscard solution looks good if you can afford it.
