Interface goes black in pro X
Hi,
While working with PDF's in shared review the interface goes black at certain locations, usually where the mouse is located.
It usually happens while hading comments.
Thanks ahead...
Try the Apple Hardware Test Using Apple Hardware Test this is most probably a problem with your hardware, it could be your graphics card or perhaps some problem with the motherboard

Illustrator 2014 goes black and unresponsive when saving.
Since the latest version of Illustrator, every time I save a file (even very small ones), the whole interface goes black and is unresponsive.
There's no dialogue telling me it's saving at all.
Also it seems saving is a whole lot slower than with the previous version.
I am on a Windows 8.1 machine with 32gb of ram by the way.
Is this a bug that can be adressed?
grts
JDHi dogmatic73,
Is it happening to some specific document or with every document.
If this is the case then try to reset the preferences of Illustrator.
Please refer the following article on "How to reset the preferences".

Please let me know if this no the case.

Program monitor keeps going black in Premiere Pro CC
PC - Premiere Pro CC - AMD Fire Pro (13.101-130604a-158071E-ATI)
I'm working on a project and the program monitor keeps going black in Premiere Pro CC while I am working on the timeline. I've got like 28 GB of memory alocated to the program and just updated the latest driver for my video card. No clue why this keeps happening, but the only way I can get around it is to restart. When I go to close down the program freezes and I have to shut it down in the system preferences.
Under a crazy deadline if you can help? Thankshere's my story. I'm also having this problem with video appearing in the Program monitor. The only thing I did differently is that yesterday when I was editing, I pulled the Program monitor out of the main Premiere interface and dragged it over to my second desktop monitor. that worked just dandy.
when I opened Premiere today, and opened an entierly different project, there was no video in the output window (and it was locked back into the main interface). I also can't select clips on the TL. The software locks up, and I have to restart.
I am able to create a new project and render the countdown leader. I was also able to import the project that wasn't displaying correctly, and have it work just like normal. So I think I'm back in business for now.
I'm deeply concerned though. I'm doing a webinar about Premiere very soon (with rehearsals tomorrow!). A failure like this looks bad for everybody. Also, I don't relish having to re-import all of my old projects in this way to get the basics working again. Any idea what went wrong? Right now I feel like I'd better never drag the program window to a second monitor to enjoy a larger program monitor while editing.

Mid 2010 MacBook Pro crash - screen goes black
There is a major problem with the mid 2010 Mac Book Pro's and Lion. I suspect that it is related to the drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512MB video card and perhaps the i7 processor. The crashes are random and most often occur after a mouse click then the screen suddenly goes black and a restart is forced. There is a thread on MacRumors that describes many others with the same problem: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1182104
The crash occurs less frequently when the power and external monitors are connected. When the MBP is unteathered it crashes every 20 minutes. I am really surprised and disappointed that a bug this severe made it through final testing. Looking forward to 10.7.1.
Scottim so glad im not the only one with this problem. at least i know its not because some careless things i unconciously did that makes my mac gone berzerg like this.
i also encounter the exact same problem with all of you. problems started a month ago. at first it was just once in a while then it became a frequent thing especially when my battery left with 20-30%. then after i plugged in the magsafe, its okay. lately, nothing safes the mac from crashing, particularly when im running adobe and/or autocad. i thought it was software problems so i backed up my files, performed erase and install snow leopard then made an even bigger mistake by upgrading to lion. after finish upgrading, the crashings got even more often. every starting up, after i got a glimpse of login in, pufffttt, screen goes black but keyboard still on. googled it up and say reseting smc will do the trick. eeekkkk nothing! then resetting the pram. worked okay for quite some times then puufffttt, crash! ask a question on yahoo answers and got a help from lovely person to install gfsxcard-something and told to opt for integrated only. worked fine for 2 days and still went back to crashing. opened up the mac, testing each rams, reshuffling em, still got nothing. the only thing that enables me to do my work with this Majestic mac is resetting pram everytime i turn it on.
since im living in singapore (bought this mac june'09 in melbourne, australia), there is no genius bar to be found, running a diagnostic only at any apple service cost me 120 bucks and if i have to change the logicboard, its gonna cost me ard 1000++ dollas since i dont have any applecare and my warranty expired 4mnths ago. so, i might be killing myself soon! yauuzaaaa -
My screen on my MacBook Pro keeps going black
I got my MacBook in September of 2010. It's a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. I have had great luck with it, until recently. This problem has been going on since like August now and it's time I should quit ignoring it. For some reason when I am just using my computer normally my screen goes black. Everything seems to be disabled but the keypad still lights up. The only way to get my macbook working again to to forcefully shut it off and turn it back on. Sometimes when i use the mouse a certain way (such as sliding 3 fingers to view other open windows) it shuts off. I have also updated my software from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion. I don't know what could be causing it. I have had some issues sending in laptops before to get fixed but I have a feeling it's going to come down to that. I'm a college student and use my computer daily and being a broadcasting major I need this computer for everything I do. Can somebody please help?
I had similar problem with my MacBook Pro. Login window goes black in 4 seconds, but it is not turned off. Push power and screen comes back but goes black again in 4 seconds. I can type in password, but before it logs me in, it goes black. If I connect to external monitor, the screen stays up, and I can use extermal mouse but keyboard input is ignored. This was obviously display problem of the Mac, at the least. (no clue why keyboard does not work when connected to external monitor.
I have solution: Reset PRAM
1. Power down Mac compeltely.
2. Hold down Option, Command, P and R keys (four keys total) while you press power button to boot up Mac
3. Mac will restart at least twice. Listen to noise. After 2nd power up, lift all keys.
I kept holding down the keys and Mac restarted like 5 times before I released keys, then rebooting stopped. Mac now works. The article I read said "wait for 2nd reboot". I though it would stop after twice.
In my case, I think use of extranal monitor confused Mac Book Pro eventually. I see no other side effects (such as loss of data on hard disk, resetting clock, resetting default settings etc) while I do reset, so I think this is relatively safe thing to try. -
I am trying to hook my macbook pro to a projector, which has a VGA cable. I bought a VGA to HDMI adapter, but whenever I hook it up, the screen on my macbook just goes black and I can't make it do anything else or even show up on the projector.
My laptop is still on; it just has a black screen that I can't get rid of without shutting down the computer by holding the power button.Hey there lynmrigg,
It sounds like have an HDMI to VGA adapter connecting your MacBook Pro and your projector but the screen on your computer goes black and no image appears on the projector. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve or isolate the issue here, named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Take care,

My Macbook pro 1,2 monitor and laptop screen goes black once in a while and then comes back on
Hello all,
Thank you very much for taking the time to view my issue. This issue just started about a month ago, I have a 22" LCD Monitor that I have been using, when this issue started the monitor would flicker and the screen would go black, but if I turned it off for a bit then turned it back on it would come back on. After a while it just started to go black and not come back on at all, so I decided to disconnect the monitor and use the notebook screen, I thought the monitor itself was broken. The notebook screen was working fine up until the last week, it is now doing the exact same thing, when my computer wakes up from being asleep it sometimes flickers then goes black, I can still faintly see the outline of the programs I have up but it is completely black. Sometimes it is a pain to get back on and I have to force shutdown and turn it back on to get it working. I am not sure what the problem is but I really want to get it fixed.
My Macbook Pro 1,2 is the first model made, but it was the best model available at the time. It has a Intel Core Duo 2.16GHz chip with 2GB of ram and a 160GB hard drive, it also has an ATI Radeon X1600 video card with 256mb of Vram. If anyone has any suggestions or resources I can use, I would greatly appreciate you sharing them with me.
Thank you very much in advance!
Sincerely,
Saggz.Hey Fleurdemimi,

Hello mac community, I am new,
I updated a program today everything was working fine yesterday and now today I was updating PLAY a music engine program it seems to have caused the mac to go crazy. I also updated VE PRO 5 another music program. Everything has gone crazy. It turns on but then then the screen goes black after a while 5-10mins. I managed to get the crash report.
Why is the graphics card all of a sudden effected by program updates.

Yesterday upon startup for the first time the screen went black. Had to do a force shutdown. Unplugged all external devices. Reset everything as well. Slowly checked everything was on the phone with Apple even during the process. Seemed to correct the issue. Then of course I get off the phone, restarted my computer and it goes black randomly again.
Rebooted fine. Checked all my hard disks internal and external, verified and repaired permissions on main drive and clone. Since then nothing yet...But I still feel its either the Video Card or the Monitor as everything else is fully operational.
I plan on taking it in to look at as my applecare is up in November but I cant point my finger on it. And really am trying to avoid lugging the mac pro and monitor in at the same time...(Not the easiest thing with lack of parking in nyc..)
If the display was dying I feel like it would have konked out already.
The funny thing is I have had to replace video cards and monitors in the past but this time I cant quite figure out what the **** is going on.
I am leaning towards the video card as I noticed it flickered a little when opening plug in windows in pro tools or multiple windows in sfari but it doesnt make sense.
Worst part is I cant do a hardware test cause for some reason this computer doesnt have the software installed. It does nothing when I hold down the D button...
I totally baffled but the randomness of this. -
I frequently connect my MacBook Pro to my 42inch Panasonic TV to watch movies/videos. I use VLC media player for all my playback. The problem I'm running into is that when I put VLC media player into fullscreen mode on my external display, my retina display goes black (I can still see the finder bar at the top and when I mouse down the dock appears but the rest of the display shows all black. If I click on Safari it will open but I can't see it on my MacBook display unless I take the external display out of fullscreen mode.
I would still like to be able to do things on my MacBook while video is playing. I've played around with the display settings but they're pretty limited and I can't figure out how to get it to work the way I'd like. I've seen people having up to 3 or 4 displays hooked up, I'm just trying to hookup one. I would consider this a severe limitation of OS X if I'm not able to separately manage the displays. Hopefully there is a setting or something I'm just not seeing. Thanks.Yeah, fullscreen mode still doesn't play nice with multiple monitors. The common workaround is to stretch the window out to the edges of the screen instead of using actual fullscreen mode.

Have most recent macbook pro connected to thunderbolt via thunderbolt cable. Occasionally when I close my laptop the thunderbolt display goes black and does not come back on---even in response to keyboard. Help
Hello QuinnDev,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are trying to use your MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt Display in closed clamshell mode (MacBook Pro closed), but sometimes the display doesn't stay on. I found an article that talks about closed clamshell mode. You would have to fulfill the following requirements to use your display this way:
Requirements for closed display mode:
Power adapter
External keyboard, mouse, or trackpad
External display
You can find all the steps and the full article here:
Mac notebooks: How to use your computer in closed clamshell (display closed) mode with an external display

I hope this helps!
All the best,

Premier pro play back screen goes black a freezes every 15 minute . This is my second mac pro with identical problems.
SOLVED!!!!!
SO I did some more digging around and read ATI cards seem to overheat easily. I knew the fan was working, but after closer inspection I realised there was ALOT of built up dust on the card and clogging the fan and airflow. Blew it out with alot of compressed air, stuck it back in the Mac and BAM...no black screens. I tested it by streaming 6 video sources...doing 2 screen captures at once as well as watching a HD movie in fullscreen. Did all this for 30 minutes and no crashes. I also downloaded an app to monitor the temps inside the computer and the expansion bay stays at 41 degrees. No clue what it was before but obviously it was hotter than that. So my problem is solved! Funny that 10.7.5 made the card work harder. I wonder if its off loading some CPU stuff to the GPU for processing more than 10.7.4 so its just working a bit harder and so it heats up faster.... -
Macbook Pro late 2008 goes black randomly
I purchased a macbook pro late 2008 model on December 30, 2008. Since recently, its screen goes black randomly when the built-in 9400m graphics chip is switched on. During the black screen process, the keyboard still keeps shining. I might wake it up by pressing CtrlShiftEject, but quite often I have to shut it down by holding the power button and restart. I have never encountered the problem when it is working with the 9600M chip, or when it is running window xp.
The screen can go black at any time, when it is booting (the gray screen with the Apple logo), or in the Apple hardware test. I have run Apple Hardware Test for several times, and no errors were found.
Desperately, I brought my laptop to the local apple store, and there I was unable to reproduce the black of death, and I left my computer there for check, after 3 days, they just called me, saying there was nothing wrong with it. But when I take it home, turn it on, only to find that the problem still remains the same.
Could it be the problem with a defected graphic chip? Or is it a problem with the firmware or the OS?
I really appreciate your assistance.
PS I tried to reset the SMC as it is instructed in Apple Support, but I did not see the led blinking at all, so I did not know whether it worked or not.i am having the same problem!!! My description is pretty much exactly the same as the orgional posters. now mine have been less frequent, but i recently just expierenced two in a row in about a 3 minute time span. now, mine have never done it at boot up. i dont believe i had this problem with 10.5, and i definitly dont have this problem in windows. now, i have in MOST cases, been able to recover from it by, simply closing the screen for a moment, then reopening it. but i really would like this issue to be resolved. Thanks!

My 13 in MacBook Pro screen randomly goes black. It was purchased in 2010. It's a 10.6.8. It started just recently. The only thing I can think of is is that my 7 year old son played an online game with the computer. I did check the "hot corners" settings and that is not the issue. When the screen goes black, I generally end of foce shutting it down with the power button.

When the screen goes black, I generally end of foce shutting it down with the power button.
