Interface status when connected to an ADM?

I have a couple of quick questions, maybe someone can help me with them.
These are the facts:
- I have a fiber optic running about 20km between two sites.
- On one end I have an ASR1006 with a SIP-10G and in one of its sub-slots it has a SPA-5x1GE. This SPA has a 1000BASE-ZX SFP installed.
- There's a smf jumper running from the SFP to the ODF an this ODF goes to an ADM.
- I know that the other end (at 20km aprox) is disconnected.
- The A/L led on the SPA, next to the SFP port is steady orange.
So, what status should be shown on the "show interface" output? Right now it's "interface down, line procotol down"
If all is set correctly (logs are clean) should the line protocol be up?
Should the interface be up?
At the ODF there are 2 connectors (RX and TX) so they might be inverted and I cannot access that, I would need to call the provider and don't want to do it unless if it necessary.
Thanks.

The problem is probably the result of an mismatch between the optical transceiver (SFP) in the ASR1006 and the service provider's ADM.
You need to know from the service provider what type of interface (speed, reach [1000BASE-?X]) they have installed in their ADM connecting to your equipment.  Typically, for an in-building interconnection, between the termination equipment and the service provider's equipment, they would be using a short reach interface (1000BASE-SX), which would operate over multimode fiber or maybe a long reach interface (100BASE-LX), which can run over MMF or SMF. The 1000BASE-ZX SFP is designed for very long links (up to 70 kilometers) and operates at 1550nm over SMF fiber. I'm guessing your link between the ASR and ADM is <500 meters.
If everything is functioning properly, the "show interface" would be Interface UP, Line Protocol UP. If their is a transceiver mismatch, the devices may be unable to read the bits to bring the link up.  The client ADM port (facing you) may be shut down as you mentioned the other end of the backbone fiber (20km) is not connected.

I hope I am understanding your network topology.

  • Line Output From Audio Interface Mutes When Connected To HDMI

    Hello Apple Community,
As my first post to the community, I would like to shed some light on an issue I have found no answer to on the internet or support lines. I have spent a great deal of time self-diagnosing and over the phone with technical support for all devices in question.
    Problem:
I have no sound when connected to HDMI. The problem is not exclusive to HDMI, as I bought two Mini DisplayPort adapters (HDMI & VGA) -- neither of which resolved my issue.
    Hardware:
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) - Intel i7, 8GB RAM, GT 650M Graphics
    Audio Interface - Started out with a PreSonus AudioBox 2-In, 2-Out. Now it's a Yamaha Steinberg UR22 (2-In, 2-Out)
Powered Studio Monitors - Yamaha HS7 (Pair)
    External Display - Vizio 37", 1080p TV
At first glance, it may sound like my problem is simply that I'm not set to the correct audio output when I'm connected to HDMI. However, this is not the case. With both audio interfaces, I double-checked that the output did not swap to HDMI when plugging in. Many communities believe this is a ground-loop issue with anything from my interface / speakers, to the HDMI cable itself. When I spoke to an audio specialist from Yamaha, he assured me that grounding issues were not the case. He said that ground-loops will only cause noise (hiss, static, hum, etc.), not a complete mute.
    Thank you,
    Matthew Morris

Okay, so Steinberg responded after 6 days to set up a call time. Three days after that, I finally received the call. Yes, 9 total days.........
Jeff from Steinberg went over all of my issues and went through a whole diagnosis. At the point where I got rid of the stock Yamaha XLR to TRS and used some unbalanced instrument cables I had laying around, the monitors worked! Jeff and I narrowed it down to either bad cables or (more than likely) bad XLR ports. I believe the ladder because the possibility of receiving 2 bad cables is less likely than possibly a single XLR port having a faulty ground or something--which would lead to the above issues.

  • Ethernet interface errors when connecting to Dell Power Connect 5316M

Customer is connecting an Ethernet port off a CSS11502 to a port on a Dell PowerConnect 5316M on software version 1.0.0.24. On the CSS11502 there are FCS errors and Ethernet errors on the Dell switch. Has anyone seen incompatibility issues with CSS devices and Dell switches?

    Hi,
have you checked the auto-negotiation settings on both? maybe they don't get the speed settings right and one is in half-duplex.

  • When connected to my Ford Mondeo, my ipod nano can be controlled through interface.  But after while it comes up with message 'loading data' and then freezes.  Anyone else got the issue?

When connected to my new Ford Mondeo, my ipod nano can be controlled through user interface in car.  This worksd most of the time, but after a while if I try to change the music or search, it comes up with message 'Loading Data'.  I then have to pull out USB and reinseert, at which point it works again.  Has anyone esle expereinced this/have a solution?

Does not matter if anyone else has this issue.  You need to contact the Ford dealership.  It's their product you are having problems with.
If you really want to know if anyone else has this issue, post on Ford's Mondeo message boards.  It's where the Ford car owners hang out.

Yes i am hoping staff here will look into things, even if i can not get the speeds back what i previously had for near 6 months it would be nice to know why i can not and why the download has dropped by around 10Mb and why my upload is now inconsistant.
Ironically the post concerned got edited because i actually posted the full rather silly reply the Indian call centre made babbling on about down rates rather than the uprate i queried with them.
Bit of a shambles really no real way on BTs web site to contact anyone with regards to broadband issues.
The form which you kindly suggested and i appreciated your help ended up in the hands of someone who either did not bother to read the query or just had such a poor grasp of English they did not understand the query.
Pretty pathetic really when BT are the largest telco in the UK. I think ill be taking my broadband business elsewhere regardless at the end of my 18 month contract, while im sure staff here are wonderful and may even yet help me, i do not particularly want to go through the almost like pulling teeth pain of getting any future issue looked at.
They are great at quickly fixing voice line problems and have a great test on their site. Broadband side of things and support for that though seems a shambles.

Thanks for responding. Everything seems to work right except for the when I plug into the 737. Ok let me see if I can be more clear. I had this set up done with two representatives of Neumann, and DBox. Here it is I hope this helps. 32 Channel snake (24 Inputs 8 outputs) Channels 1-8 from snake to my Octopre for Drums. From Octropre output quarter inch lines into the Apollo 2, quarter inch input. This is so that the Apollo 2 is taking the drum tracks. Snake Channel 9-12 into Apollo 1 channels 1-4 xlr. Snake Channel 13-16 into Apollo 2 Channels 1-4 xlr. Snake Channel 17 into the 737, output of 737 into Channel 5 of the Apollo 1 quarter inch.
Ok The Dbox. Sum output L&R into channel input 7&8 of Apollo 1. Apollo 1 output channels 1-8 into summing input channel 1-8 of Dbox. Apollo 1 main L&R going to main analog input L&R of Dbox. Spid out to DAW input of Dbox. I have both ADAT of both Apollos connected by optical wire. Also have port 2 of Apollo 1 into port 1 of Apollo 2 connected by Firewire.  Let me know. Hope I got it right. Thanks for responding.

  • ACE - Query VLAN Interfaces Status

    Hi,
I am wondering what the status of the query vlan interface means in the command 'show ft peer detail':
Query Vlan IF State          : UP, Manual validation - please ping peer
I am pretty sure that I did not see this status when I configured query vlan last time. Current version is A2(2.3).
Unfortunately this status does not seem to be documented anywhere on CCO.
    I appreciate any help!
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
The FT Query VLAN interface is an optional, yet very good, feature to be used when using redundant ACE modules or appliances. Without it, if the FT VLAN was to go down, the standby ACE will no longer receive FT heartbeats from the active ACE and therefore take the active role.  However, if the active ACE is still running fine in the active role, then you don't want the standby ACE to take over as active because that will put them into an active/active scenario, which may lead to connectivity issues.
This is where the FT Query VLAN interface comes in.  If the FT VLAN goes down, the standby ACE will notice this, but before taking the active role, it will ping it's peer IP address configured on the interface that is designated as the FT Query VLAN.  If the ping is successful, then it will stay in the standby role, thereby saving you some headaches.
The status that you are seeing is the ACE's way of telling you that the interface is UP, but if you want to know if it can successfully ping the peer IP address, then you would have to manually ping the peer IP address from the CLI.  The ACE does not periodically check the ping connectivity through any automatic mechanism.  The automatic mechanism is only triggered by the FT VLAN going down.
    Does this help?
    Sean

  • Camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected

Kodak camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected.  Trying to download pictures and adding my music to ipod shuffle, Anyone have any suggestions.

Have you plugged in another USB device to ensure that the USB ports are working?
Suggest you buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.

  • Disk disconnect error when connecting a drive?

Can anyone help with this Firewire problem? I have a recent MacBook Pro running Lion and three firewire LaCie drives of varying vintage. All three are connected to the Mac's single FW port using a FW hub.
Day to day 2 of these drives are always connented, and will power on when I power on the Mac. The third one lives in a rack case along with a FW audio interface.
When I connect the rack case and power it up, the interface switches on, and the third hard drive spins up. At this point the first 2 drives disappear from the desktop and I ALWAYS get a message telling me that they were not ejected safely. A few seconds later they spin up and reappear on the desktop.
Obviously I don't want to risk my data with an unsafe connection method, but I also don't really want to eject both desktop drives, unplug the firewire cable, power up the rack and then reconnect the cable, which is the only way I can think of to make all 3 drives appear at the same time.
My previous MBP running Snow Leopard with the same hub, interface and drives did not have the issue.
Anybody think they know what this is about please?

Thanks for the different responses. Just a few more details. My internal hd is only using 63 of 100g.
So I don't think the disk space issue for disk utility would be the answer to my particular problem. I have also tried using superduper to back up this same drive; however, it would not complete the task either. Would it be better to just back up the user folders separately and maybe the applications folder and then just use the mac os dvd's to install on my new drive? ( I don't guess backing up the applications folder would do any good; they would have to all be reinstalled. ) Just trying to find a way to get this done without having to do to much reinstall work. Any other ideas?

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists
KINDLY GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION. APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE in advance...

"I get the feeling that this is a software issue that could probably be solved quite easily"
Since you have already tried all the normal troubleshooting solutions, take the iPod to your nearest Apple Store for a *proper diagnosis.* The staff there will be able to confirm if your problem is software or hardware _*at no cost to you.*_

  • Can't access management interface via vpn connection

    Hi all,
I can't seem to be able to manage my ASA 5510 when I connect via vpn. My asa sits at a remote colo, and from my office i can connect fine. I have it configured as management-access (dmz), bc as of now we are just doing some staging and all the servers are in the dmz interface.

  • Default Gateway when connected to VPN

    Thanks for reading!
This is probably a dump question so bear with me...
I have set up a VPN connection with a Cisco ASA 5505 fronting internet, with the customers environment behind it (on the same subnet), When connected ot the VPN I can reach the inside Router fronting me and one switch behind the Router (every switch is connected to the router), but nothing else.
My beet is that the Router is messing with my connection, but,, nevermind that!, the setup ain't complete anyway... my question is more related to the Gateway I'm missing when I'm, from the outside, is connected to the VPN on the ASA, could this mess it up? I didn't realise I had that crypto settings on, thanks my bad!!!
But... the 172.16.12.0 network is directly connected, the Router (that to be honest is a firewall) / switches is all on the same subnet (172.16.12.X/24), so sorry I didn't explain thoroughly, was more wondering about the GW and didn't want to overcomplicate things..
The Firewall/Router dosen't do any routing, so it should work right (I you count out the firewalling in the firewall and so forth, there shouldn't be any problems accomplishing this with the ASA)? The Firewall is more a DHCP for the clients/Firwall for the clients.. this will change in the future.. it will be removed,
the vpn network is staticly routed back to my ASA in that firewall...
I don't like this solution.. but this is who it looks.. for now..
    (VPN network is 10.10.10.X/24)
But... shouldn't I see a default gateway under ipconfig when I'm connected to the VPN from internet, on the vpn client that's vpned in, is this correct?
    THANKS for all the help!

  • Message "Accessory connected" when connecting to my car audio

    Hi,
I bought a new iPod Touch recently but haven't tried connecting it to my car audio through the car's USB interface. When I tried connecting it to my car audio, the iPod interface vanished and a screen with "Accessory connected" appeared and it is simply impossible to get out of this interface. Also, my car's displays "Load" with an "iPod" indicator but doesn't seem to play the music. I read in the discussion forum that pressing the "Home" key would bring up the iPod screen which is correct, but the moment I tap on the "Music" option, the iPod again brings up the "Accessory connected' screen. I'm connecting my iPod to my Honda City car audio and the iPod Touch version is 4.1.
Has anyone had similar issues with interfacing iPod Touch with their car audio system?
    TIA
    Best Regards
    Ramanujam

    Hi Ramanujam,
It's possible that your car audio system offers the functionality of a "2-way mode" (ie: allowing you to operate via either the iPod itself or the head unit of the car audio system). Check your car audio manual, and switch the controlling terminal from "headunit mode" to "iPod mode" for iPod playback. Once in "iPod mode", you should find that your iPod's menu should operate as normal.
I'm not familiar with the audio system in your Honda City, however, by example, pressing & holding the "back" key on a JVC headunit will switch between playback modes.
If this solution is not successful, try connecting your ipod via the USB interface while holding the iPod in a "landscape mode" (ie: sideways). You may find that you have limited functionality & can scroll through album covers in order to make song selections. NB: Be sure to hold your iPod in a landscape mode before connecting, rather than connecting the iPod in a "portrait mode" and then rotating the device 90 degrees.
    Wishing you luck,
    Malcolm
