Interface Threshold Violation

Hi Guys,
I have 8 access points and a 5508 series WLC. I am getting the below alerts
Message: Interference threshold violation reported by '802.11b/g/n' interface of AP 'KPAP0000.f4a6', connected to Controller '10.69.186.21'.
Message: Interference changed to acceptable level on '802.11b/g/n' interface of AP 'KPAP0000.1b40', connected to Controller '10.69.186.21'.
On seraching the forum, i found the below details:
Recommended Actions If the interference threshold is configured to be  too low, you may need to readjust it to a more optimum value.
Investigate interference sources such as other 802.11 devices in the vicinity of this radio interface
Im my current configuration i have threshold under 802.11a>RRM>general
Profile threshold for traps - 10% [which is the default]
Just wondering is that the value i need to change. Is there any standard optimal value. Or do i need to find out using trail and error.
Thanks

It really depends. You can adjust them until they go away or your fine with the amount of alerts you receive. So the one thing that is mentioned is interference. Have you checked for interferes? Do you have neighboring access points on the 2.4ghz? All these things have an affect in your RF and how these alerts are being generated. So I would try to identify any 2.4 ghz interferes and then play with the threshold value.

  • Load threshold violation - gap in voice audio

    Hello,
I have a lot of 7925 Phones, two 3750 with integrated WLC (6.0.188).
The Costumer says that he has a lot of gaps in voice audio. I have testet it and can't recognize any gap.
I said to the customer that he has to write down the time when there are any problems with the audio stream.
I could recognize that there is a minor alarm in the wcs at the same time when the problems occur.
I could also see in the log of the ap that there is an reset of the a radio after the alarm is generated
    The WCS Error message is
Load threshold violation reported by '802.11a' interface of AP 'AP-DE-HQ-033', connected to Controller.....
What could be the reason of these error message? Wich kind of treshold is meant and where i can configure it.
I hope someone can help me

    Sir,
The load threshold violation is generated because of client count on a given AP, I am not aware of any bugs or features that would cause this to occurr in correctly. basically this alarm is triggered when the client count exceeds the preset threshold value which I believe is 12. You can find this threshold under Wireless> 802.11a> RRM>General (on WLC 6.0.118.0 code, it'll be in the same general area on 4.2; Don't confuse it with the coverage hole threshold which is usually 3).  Definitely check the client counts on the access points have the issues.
If you are violating this threshold there are a couple of options:  1) raise the threshold to a higher value; the downside to this is if you get too many clients on a single AP it can have adverse effects on all the clients.  2) add more access points to lower the possibility of all clients being on 1 AP..
    Hope this helps,
    Kayle

  • What does Load threshold violation reported by '802.11b/g' mean?

I am assuming it is too many laptops on an access point. This environment has 24 laptops on a cart used in 1 room so shouldn't the controler divy them up between the 2 antennas  in the 1142 which is sitting right above them?
    thanks
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
Just to add a note here to the good info from my friend Leo (+5 ponts L-Man)
    You are most correct about the nature of this alarm;
WCS Message AP ''{0}'', interface ''{1}." Load threshold violated.
Symptoms A radio interface of an access point is reporting that the client load has
    crossed a configured threshold.
    WCS Severity Minor.
Probable Causes There are too many clients associated with this radio interface.
Recommended Actions Verify the client count on this radio interface. If the threshold for this
trap is too low, you may need to readjust it.
Add new capacity to the physical location if the client count is a frequent
    issue on this radio.
As Leo noted, the dual antennas in "Diversity" mode won't help to mitigate
this issue. Only adding another AP can help load balance the client load
    Cheers!
    Rob

  • Retrive load threshold violation reports using NCS 1.0.2.29?

    Hello!
I would like to retrive some specific reports from the NCS regarding load threshold violation on some specific 1142N accesspoints. Using the alarm browser don´t help me that much because you cant see the history of how many alarms each AP has generated, only cleared alarms. The reason to this is that I would like to see if there is any issues in different system campus with APs that report this alarm.
Most of the APs are associated to maps. The NCS version that I run is 1.0.2.29. WLCs are running 7.0.220.0.
If there is any other way to see this information I´m happy to get that information.
    Thanks!

  • Load threshold violation 802.11 a/n

I keep getting these minor alarms "Load threshold violation 802.11.a/n".  Where are these thresholds defined?  I have Prime 2.1 and 5508 controllers 7.6

    John,
You can change the alert threshold for each band via Wireless > 802.11(a/n/ac) or 802.11(b/g/n) > RRM > General.  You will see Profile Threshold For Traps and there you can increase or decrease the number of clients associated to a radio that will trigger the alarm.
You can also do this through the CLI with:
    config rf-profile client-trap-threshold NUMBER
    Hope that helps!

  • HUM Threshold violation

    Hi
Can someone explain the following for me:
I've configured the threshold on HUM for availability, and now am getting this message: what does this message mean?
CiscoWorks HUM: Critical: Device Availability Threshold Violation: Device Availability (smp-it-ni-acc)
    Host Name: tzmapgnulms
smp-it-ni-acc has violated the 0.0 Device Availability threshold
    Details:
    MIB object name: sysUpTime
    Instance Name: Device Availability
    Number of violatons: 1
    Threshold condition: var == 0.0
    Violation value: 0.00
    Severity: Critical
Date and Time: Wed, Nov 11 2009, 07:36:03 CAT

It looks as though HUM could not poll sysUpTime for one cycle, and this triggered the threshold. That is, the device may not be pollable via SNMP.

  • Load threshold violation

I see many "Load threshold violation" messages in NCS server. any idea why and how can i fix it?

Thresholds are usually set on the WLC. Its up to you to leave it at default or you can adjust that.

  • Dropped clients and Load threshold violation

Can someone tell me if a load threshold violation can lead to dropped clients.  Is this error message just a notice or does the controller drop clients after reaching the threshold value.
    Thanks
    Chris

Can you do a show wlan for me and post the results.
Do you have load balance enabled ?

  • Continual coverage threshold violation

    Hi,
I seem to get these messages from an 1130 LW, using a 4400 as the controller. Exactly every 20 minutes for the wholes days. Im around 10 meters away from the AP, and every now and then I get a low signal, then the wireless disconnects and reconnects.
AP 'comp-1130', interface '802.11b/g' on Controller '10.*.*.*'. Coverage threshold of 'unknown' violated. Total no of clients is 'unknown' and no of failed clients is 'unknown'.
The AP is between two other AP's. The other two have no problems. In the area, there are several 7920's and a couple other laptops that use the AP's continually.
    Thanks

  • Cisco router interface threshold

    Hello,
I have a question about getting threshold information out of a specific interface. I have a customer with DSL on a cisco 887 router.
This customer has 2 different pvc's on the ATM0 interface, 2 dialer's (1 for voice, one for data) 2 vlan's (1 for voice, one for data).
What I would like is that the cisco router wil send me a message that only the voice dialer or voice vlan has exceeded it's threshold limit.
I can configure this with the "rmon alarm" command, but then it isn't specific for the voice dialer, it gives me info on both the dialers.
I also tried it with SNMP traps, but this isn't "real-time"
Does anyone know if there is a different solution to solve this?

    Sorry, small mistake :-)

  • Load threshold violation reported

I need a WCS report that will actually give me the top n Wireless Access points that have too many clients trying to authenticte to them.
We have some serious capacity issue in meeting rooms but we need a ball park figure of how many WAPs might be affected.
I know I can interogate the WCS to drill down and find out that WAPs are exceeding their threshold I just need to have a decent report generated.
I have searched the reports from WCS  6.0.202.0  and cannot seem to find anything that suits.
    Many thanks for your help.

This is interesting not to find it easily.
I spent an hour looking for such thing but it does not seem to be found direclty on WCS (I am using 7.x).
There is a template in Device -> Busiest APs. this shows busiest 5 APs but it does not seem to show them in term of number of users. it shows them in tx and rx utilization.
There should be a template under device also that list APs and there should be an option to show the clients per AP.
You can do it the other way (which is stupid to do it this way unless really needed) is to do a report to list all clients then you may open the CSV file via MS excel and filter per AP.
Cisco should really add support for this. It seems they stupidly forgot to add "client count" field in AP summary (or wherever in AP reports where showing client count is valid).
Sorry for not being able to help much

  • Intermittant radio interface down on 1130 APs

I am having unified wireless installation, with WiSM on 6500 at central site and around 90 nos of 1130 APs located at remote locations ( over WAN) as well as some APs locate in the same location.
The APs are configured in WCS, using default AP template.
Alsomot all APs are showing minor alarms saying " radio interface threshold violated".
In addition, a major alarm posted frequently on WCS saying "radion interface down".
Cleints are complaining that they are loosing connectkion momentarily but connected again automatically wo WLAN. But they will have to log in to application programs in such cases.
a.Does anybody have similar experience, and
    b. What are the best settings for 1130 APs trhat we have to do explicitly in setting up the WCS template ?
    Thanks ,

Might be due to interference and the fact that RRM is enalbled and the ap's are changing channels causing the radios to shut down temporarily. Either set the channel or try to change the threshold.
    Here is the error info:

in our company we have set the title in the method CRM_HTML_SMART_FORM of the processing class generating the mail.
(by default the action is SLFN0001_*_MAIL for message but it might have been changed)
if you want to know the class and method you need to select the right action profile and pick the email action to know it. (call transaction CRMC_ACTION_CONF for this)
if you don't know the action profile you can read it in the action log of your message (go in change mode in your message, action tab)
