Interface to HP34970A with Signal Express

Hello,
I am trying to interface an Agilent HP 34970A using a demo version of Signal Express 1.2. I installed the ivi-com driver version 1.0.0.4 from Agilent. When I go through "add step/IVI DMM Acquire" there is no instrument driver available in the pull down menu. Is there something I should do in MAX ? I have the same issue with a scope TDS 7104 using Tektronix ivi driver 2.5.
Thanks for your help.
Rob

Rob,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
It sounds like there is a problem with the installation of the instrument drivers. There is a knowledgebase that walks you through the installation of IVI drivers with SignalExpress. Also National Instruments provides instrument drivers for Tektronix TDS 7104 and Agilent Technologies 34970A.
The drivers that you have currently installed should work, but the National Instruments instrument drivers for the two devices could be more likely to install properly. Also please step through the associated knowledgebase.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you still are having the same issue. Have a great day!

  • Synchronise NI 9239 & NI USB 8473 with Signal express

Hello, I have a Cdaq 9174 chassis with an NI 9239 module (analogue input at 50Khz/ch) with Signal Express.
And I wanted to know if we could acquire this four inputs synchronised with datas from CAN connection by using a NI USB 8473 ?
    Many thanks.
    Patrick.

For me you can't use the driver NI-CAN is not compatible with Signal Express. The Only way you could use it with SE, is to pass through LabVIEW VI.
You'll find in the below link the way to do it.

  • I PXI 1010 with Digital Osci, RIO cards. Any simple projects to illustrate PXI with Signal Express and/or using Digital Osc.?

I have PXI 1010 with card for Digital Osc. Also have ELVIS. Any suggestions on oa simple project to illustrate applications of PXI - using Dig OSc and/or ELVIS. Any suggestions to illustrate PXI with Signal Express exercises. This is for undergraduates in EE Engg.

Hi, yes, that does help, thank you for your reply.  Signal express does make it easy to work with multiple devices, as I am, though something seems to be amiss with the timing between cards.  For example, setting Signal Express to do nothing more than log data at 100 pts/sec on all channels on all three cards (PCI-6289), and using the software trigger in Signal Express to start the digitization process, and the stop button, to stop data logging, certainly seems to be a very convenient solution.  However, the longer I record (an hour seems to be enough time), the more likely that a signal recorded on all three cards, will not synch, point to point, (comparing signals recorded on channel 0 on all three cards, which I believe should be captured simultaneously through out the recording process, for example) and data recording does not stop simultaneously on all three cards.  I can handle the data logging not stopping simultaneously, but my source signal apparently not being recorded synchronously is a whole other problem, and the impetus for my question.  Thanks for the tip about NI-SCOPE, I was going to start working with that on a different project.
I am using the most recent versions of SignalExpress, NIDAQmx drivers, etc., on a PC running 64-bit windows 7.
    regards,

Welcome to the wonderful world of M-Audio!!! Now, what you are doing is perfectly NORMAL. You need to hook up speakers to your audio interface. Where the little diagram says so:
    http://www.m-audio.com/layout/imgview.php?i=/images/en/connectivity/big/mobilepr eusbcd779px.gif
See? The reason this is so, is because when you are using this interface, you are BOTH using the inputs AND outputs. Logic always works like this, it is a requirement to use "a full-duplex sound card" which means a sound card that has inputs and outputs.

  • Connecting Interface and recoding with Logic Express 9

Hi apologies if I've posted this in the wrong location. I need some help.
I have just bought an iMac (with Logic express 9) along with a focusrite saffire pro 14 sound interface.
i'm having difficulties getting a line in and out of the focusrite and into logic.
I currently have passive monitors plugged into an amp, which is then plugged into the headphone jack on the iMac, the focusrite is connected via firewire.
my mic is connected via xlr with phantom power into the focusrite, and my guitar (via an effect unit with built in pre-amp) is connected into the 1/4'' input. both signals are showing levels on the focusrite mixer software - but no sound. the only output from the sound interface is the firewire.
I can record, and play back in logic using my usb midi controller- USB direct into the iMac.
i've selected the focusrite as the driver in logic, also as the input device in system preferences on the iMac.
any ideas when I am doing wrong?
    any help would be good
    thanks
    Chris

    Hi,
there are some points where the big bear trap might have snapped onto your feet
First: You said you have selected the focusrite as the core audio input device in Logic. This is okay. But have you selected the correct inputs for the audio tracks you are recording to? You focusrite has 4 possible line inputs (1 and 2 are combined on the front in the middle of the XLR jacks, which are also inputs 1 and 2 for mics, and 3 and 4 are on the back).
When you connect a headphone to your focusrite, can you hear your mic or your guitar? (turn up the monitor volume as well as the headphones volume!)
Given you really have a good signal that goes into your focusrite, the same signal should be available in Logic *for the appropriate inputs* . It won't work if you have plugged your guitar into input 3 and have input 1 or 2 selected in the channelstrip's input selector tab.
Second: Given there's a signal coming into Logic, where does it go from there? The focusrite has 4 outputs, and you should connect your amp&speakers to them. If your amp&speakers are still connected to your iMac's headphone jack, you must select your Mac's "built in output" as the output device in Logic. The OS X preference pane has nothing to do with Logic's preferences. Don't confuse them.

  • Acquiring CONSECUTIVE signals with Signal Express

How can I record multiple signals consecutively in Signal Express using the same input device and the same DAQ channel?  It seems to me that even if I have separate execution loops, the program will still try to run all the acquisitions at the same time through the same channel.   ..and I'll get an error.  I've tried one exceution loop and I can't the program to do this ..even when I have the 'run after previous step' box checked.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello Sound Tech
You do not have to put another step inorder to acquire multiple channel. In the first DAQmx Acquire step you can select multiple lines by pressing Ctrl and configure your timing and you will be all set.

  • Report generation toolkit and signal express user step : problem of closing reference in "Stop" event

    Hi all,
I'm trying to make a package of Vis to easily make Excel reports with Signal Express. I'm working on LabVIEW 8.2.1.
I'm using the report generation toolkit, so I build a .llb from my project which contains all the hierarchy of my steps, but also the hierarchy of dynamic VIs called.
I have made some steps, like "Open Workbook", "Write Data", etc.
My steps run well, excepts one step : "Close Workbook".
If my "Close Workbook" step is firing on "Run" Signal Express event, I have no error, so my reference is properly closed.
But if my "Close Workbook" step is firing on "Stop" Signal Express event, I have an error "1", from "Generate Report Objectrepository.vi".
I feel that I'm trying to use a reference which has been killed in the "Stop" step...
I would like to know what exactly do Signal Express on "Stop" event and why my close function does'nt run well.
    Thanks,
    Callahan

    Hi Callahan,
SignalExpress (SE for short) does the following on the Stop event:
    1. Takes the list of parameters that SE found on your VI's connector pane, and sets the values that the user set from the "Run LabVIEW VI" configuration page, if any.
    2. Then tells the VI that SE is running the Stop event by setting the Enum found on your VI's front panel. This in turn should produce some boolean values telling your VI to execute the Stop case.
    3. The VI is then run, with those values and states.
    4. SE checks to see if any errors where returned.
    5. Since this is the Stop event, SE releases the reference to the VI which it possesses.
Questions for you would be, is the reference to your Workbook linked to a control on your connector pane, or held in a uninitialized Shift Register. If it's held in a Shift Register, SE would not be aware of it, and would not be able to affect that reference.
Hope that helps. Feel free to post your LLB if it doesn't.
    Phil

  • Export to Excel problem in Signal Express 2012

    Equipment used: PXIE-8102 CELERON T3100 1.9GHZ Controller Windows 7, PXIE-1071 4 Slot Chassis, PXIE-4140 4-Channel SMU 1.7.5 version.
I am using Signal Express 2012 and the SMU to plot the I/V characteristics of FET and other active devices. I am able to obtain the anticipated curve traced results but I am not able to Export the data to Excel directly from the Data View using the Microsoft Excel option. The error message is: Data could not be sent to Microsoft Excel. Please ensure you have a properly licensed version of Microsoft Excel. See attachment.
We have checked our version of Microsoft Office, it is Professional Plus and has the correct volume license so it does not revert to a home or student version.
I have been able to use the Export to Excel function directly from the Dataview when I was using one of the waveform tutorials supplied with Signal Express so I suspect it is a function of the SMU.
In conversations with an NI support engineer he felt it may be a problem with "an active x call is just not seeing the license for some reason", his suggestion is to drag the data into Excel rather than use the Data view tab. Because the SMU is being used in a production environment it is not really appropriate to have the operator work at this level so I would rather figure a way to have the data exported using the Data View tab.
Anyway please can you let me know if there are any known work around for this issue.
    Thank you

  • Accessing digital inputs from signal express (TEK MSO2024)

    Hi,
i'm trying to access the digital inputs of an TEK MSO2024 from signal express, but no luck.
    I'm using SignalExpress2011, tkpdo2 ivi driver.
Seems like this driver doesn't support digital input, anyone got a solution or another driver?

    Hello,
The best to way drive digital outputs while acquiring analog inputs is to create two steps in Signal Express. Each step will execute relatively at the same time but there is no way to correlate or synchronize DIO with AI on a 6008 because DIO on that device is software timed while AI is hardware timed. Below is the 'Getting Started with Signal Express' manual which can aid in creating an AI and DIO step. Also, if you need additional examples later, they are located in the Help->Open Examples.

  • Set up Signal Express to log when there is a change in state of the inputs (NI USB-6501 logger)

Hello NI Forum, I have recently purchased digital I/O logger NI USB-6501.  This arrived with Signal Express, which I intend to use as a Lite version.  I just wondered if it was possible to set up Signal Express to only add a log entry when there is a change in state of the inputs?  I have this working on a 0.1sec sample period and can interrogate the logs after recording.  Most of the time nothing will be happenning, I just wondered if there was a way to reduce the ammount of data captured?  Cheers.

Ah that unfortunate, and yes start/stop conditions for loging are part of the Full version of SignalExpress

  • Signal express

    Hello
i Know that this might not be the proper plateform to ask this question . since i didnt find any one relevent  to my question so i just pasted it
    on labeview
Well  I  have recently came across a software Name "signal express 4.0" using its demo panel i have calculated the center frequency of a signal . Can anyone who has used this software tell me what are the steps involved in this center frequency detection.(e.g step 1,step2,....) i want to simulated same sort of solition on Labview. using 5600 and 5142.
    Regards

I believe that you can do the same with Signal Express and then import the results into LabVIEW.  So, even though you really didn't start there, you can still end up there!

  • Signal Express Large TDMS File Recording Error

    Hello,
I have the following application and I am looking for some tips on the best way to approach the problem with Signal Express:
I am attempting to using Signal Express 2009 (Sound and Vibration Assistant) to collect random vibration data on three channels over an extended period of time -- about 20 hours total.  My sample rate is 2kHz.  Sampling at that rate over that period of time invovles the creation of a very large TDMS file, which is intended for various types of analysis in signal express later or some other application later on.  One of the analysis functions to be done is a PSD (Power Spectral Density) plot to determine the vibration levels distributed over a band of frequencies during the log.
My original solution was to collect a single large TDMS file.  I did this with Signal Express recording options configured to save and restart "in current log" after 1 hour worth of data is collected.  I configured it this way because if there is a crash/sudden loss of power during data collection, I wanted to ensure that only up to an hours worth of data would be lost.  I tested this option and the integrity of the file after a crash by killing the SignalExpress process in the middle of recording the large TDMS file (after a few save log file conditions had been met).  Unfortunately, when I restart signal express and try to load the log file data in playback mode an error indicating "TDMS Data Corrupt" (or similiar) is displayed.  My TDMS file is large, so it obviously contains some data; however, Signal Express does not index its time and I can not view the data within the file.  The .tdms_index file is also present but the meta data.txt file is not generated.  Is there any way to insure that I will have at least partially valid data that can be processed from a single TDMS file in the event of a crash during mid-logging?   I don't have too much experience dealing with random vibration data, so are there any tips for generating vibration level PSD curves for large files over such a long time length?
My solution to this problem thusfar has been to log the data to seperate .TDMS files, about an hour in length each.  This should result in about 20 files in my final application.  Since I want to take a PSD, which ends up being a statistical average over the whole time period. I plan on generating a curve for each of these files and averaging all 20 of them together to get the overall vibration PSD curve for the 20 hour time period.

    JMat,
Based on the description of your application, I would recommend writing the data to a "new log" every hour (or more often). Based on some of my testing, if you use "current log" and S&V Assistant crashes, the entire TDMS file will be corrupted. This seems consistent with what you're seeing.
It would be good if you could clarify why you're hoping to use "current log" instead of "new log". I'll assume an answer so I can provide a few more details in this response. I assume it's because you want to be able to perform the PSD over the entire logged file (all 20 hours). And the easiest way to do that is if all 20 hours are recorded in a continuous file. If this is the case, then we can still help you accomplish the desired outcome, but also ensure that you don't lose data if the system crashes at some point during the monitoring.
If you use "new log" for your logging configuration, you'll end up having 20 TDMS files when the run is complete. If the system crashes, any files that are already done writing will not be corrupted (I tested this). All you need to do is concatenate the files to make a single one. If this would work for you, we can talk about various solutions we can provide to accomplish this task. Let me know.
Now there is one thing I want to bring to your attention about logging multiple files from SignalExpress, whether you use "current log' or "new log". The Windows OS is not deterministic. Meaning that it cannot guarantee how long it takes for an operation to complete. For your particular application, this basically means that between log files there will be some short gap in time that the data is not being saved to disk. Based on my testing, it looks like this time could be between 1-3 seconds. This time depends heavily on how many other applications Windows has running at the same time.
So when you concatenate the signals, you can choose to concatenate them "absolutely", meaning there will be a 1-3 second gap between the different waveforms recorded. Or you can concatenate them to assume there is no time gap between logs, resulting in a pseudo-continuous waveform (it looks continuous to you and the analysis routine).
If neither of these options are suitable, let me know.
    Thanks, Jared

  • Reduce sample size Signal Express

I need to reduce the sample size from 3 thermistors over a period of about 1 hour.
I'm reading the voltage differential from 3 analoge inputs with a USB-6343 multifunctional DAQ.
I've tried to reduce the sample rate but this gave me an error, so I went back to the default settings of 1kHz for sampling rate.
Is there a way I can reduce the sample size from withing Signal Express (demo version)? I need to be able to output to excel so that I can share results.

    Hello REDS,
Thanks for the response. Been out for a couple of days. I'll take a look again Monday.
I'm limited to the LE version of Signal Express 2012, so I believe the "Processing" steps will end up being disabled after the eval period, so I'll be stuck after that. I was looking for a quick off-the-shelf solution when I spent all my money on the DAQ and was hoping that the LE version would have been sufficient to perform simple acquisition and logging functions with the DAQ. Chicken and Egg: couldn't eval SW w/o the HW.
I know some DAQs are limited due to the A/D HW, but the datasheet for the 6210 doesn't specify a minimum sample rate. Would you know of other tricks with the LE version of Signal Express 2012?
    Thanks again!
