Interfacing Problems Logic Express 8 - Prism Sound Orpheus

Dear All,
I am having some interfacing troubles between Logic Epress 8.0.2 and Prism Sound Orpheus Firewire interface everytime I am using a sample frequency other than 44,1 KHz.
I have to say that in the past (with my Edirol Fireface FA-66, I was already able to record at 192 KHz, but since some month (also trying with the FA-66), I am getting this message:
"Error while trying to syncronize Audio and MIDI. Sample rate 44100 recognized. Check conflict between Logic Express and external device (Actually, I am not doing anything at MIDI level, since I am just doing acoustic recordings of myself as baritone and my friend pianist.
So, maybe, I have modified unconsciously somewhere and due to my inexperience, I am not able to understand where…
What I do in Logic is: "File" > "Project Settings" > "Audio" and in "Sample Rate" I chose, for example "96000".
After having armed the tracks I push the record button and just after a few seconds the process blocks and above message appears.
There is an article on the support page of Logic, but, I as it seems either it does not work in my case or I am not able to make it work…
Could you be so kind to help me?
Many thanks in advance
Marco

I reply to both Caramby and John Alcock.
Thank you again for your support and assistance.
To John Alcock:
1) What is your I/O buffer size set to in Logic? > 512
2) Is ADAT set to 'none' in the Orpheus Control Panel > Yes (beautiful interface, BTW! > I also like it very much, thank you)
3) What else is connected to your firewire bus? > Nothing else
4) Did this problem appear at the same time as upgrading to 10.5.6? > Beautiful question: it could be. The problem is that I do not know what version I had when I bought the Mac (December 2007)... I looked on the backup copy of the CD-ROM but just "10.5" is mentioned.
In any case I would like to stress that in the past with my Edirol I was able to record with Logic at 192KHz and then since various months (maybe also a year, in the meantime), I am no longer able to do this (now only at 44.1 Khz). Do you think this depends on Mac OSX 10.5.6? But why can I record with Audacity at 96KHz NOW and I cannot do the same with Logic?
To Caramby:
In the meantime I also contacted Prism Sound. They are informed of the problem and will analyze also my system profiler, which I sent today. I think in the next days I should get a reply from them.
Any advice and comment is most welcome! Thank you again for your patience!

  • Setting up my Interface in Logic Express (HELP!)

    Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone could maybe help me out a little?
ive got a Macbook pro and recently brought Logic 9 express for it, i also have a Lexicon Alpha interface (http://www.musiciansbuy.com/mmMBCOM/Images/lexiconalphadw.jpg) i have a M Audio Axion 25 Midi controller which i understand has a built in interface so this shouldnt need to run off an external interface.. anyway...
heres my problem, ive only just got Logic 9 and so i havent got much idea on alot of it yet, but last night i plugged in my interface via USB to my Mac, loaded up Logic. Plugged in my guitar input to the interface, created a new project and i have no idea where im going from there? Logic does recognise i have a interface but i cant get any sound, please someone tell me where im going wrong and what i need to do to.
    Help will be much appreciated
    Thanks alot

There are no silly questions in the Logic Express forum (don't you try this in the Logic pro forum )
    LOL
However, you'll need a real audio track, no MIDI track. Use the "instrument" or "audio" track, because the "software instrument" and the "external MIDI" tracks are MIDI only, which means they only handle MIDI data (and in the case of the "software instrument" track, it converts this MIDI data by using a instrument plugin into hearable audio).

  • Logic express 7.1 sound out info

this may help someone else with a frustrating issue with LE 7.1.
just got my copy last night, installed it and set it up. I was hoping it would be a little more intuitive than version 6 but it's about the same
at any rate I could not get the sound routed to my m-audion 2496 audio card, no matter how I routed it, it only output to the internal speaker on my g-5. I ws getting pretty mad, since garage band routed just fine to the 2496.
I went to software update and it found 2 updates for logic, pro software and a .* for logic express. I installed those along with a quicktime and itunes and restarted.
viola, it works... routes perfectly to the 2496 with no additional configuration.
don't know if it was the restart or the upgrade so try them both.
once it routed I got it to record no problem and I'm on my way to re-learning this beast.

thank you david, I've been scouring the posts here for other issues and consistently find your name
I figured if that is really the solution, someone will come looking

  • Logic Express Trial - No sound in speakers

I am so new this will be a stupid question but here goes. I downloaded Logic Express trail to see if I could use it. I loaded a GargageBand song and hit play. No sound through my laptop or external speakers. I can hit the metronome and hear the click but no song. The meters are going crazy so I am sure it is something I have done.
I have been working with this for over 4 hours and the wife is ticked. If you could help you might just save my marriage. Thanks!

u would think if everyone has the same problem every day and askes the same questions Apple would address that in the setup notes.
Couldn't agree more. A page or two, with a simple table, would render many posts here unnecessary from people those getting started with Logic.
"If you want to do this then do that" type of table. Perhaps you could send feedback:

  • Region Flex problems Logic Express 9

    Hello
I have a really annoying problem using Flex Time in Logic Express 9.
Whenever I try to extend a region the length automatically jumps by an entire bar longer. I have switched Snap to Ticks so it's not that (once it has leapt a whole bar it resizes fine).
It is infuriating! I only want to stretch the audio a couple of ticks as I am trying to match an acapella to a beat.
Please help before I throw my laptop out of a window!!

Will the Audio MIDI Setup utility allow you to configure things properly?

  • Use Logic Express for quadrophonic sound project??

    Hi,
I'm very happy with LE9 so far, but now I may have to do a quadrophonic project... anyone ever done that with LE9?? I can imagine that I could achieve something by using 4 busses, and mixing using 4 sends on each track... or are there better tricks??
At least I have 8 outs on my firewire interface, so I suppose that will do the job.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jaap

    Hi,
problem solved Now I know more details about mixing quadrophonic audio, and about this specific project, I decided to go for Logic Pro...

  • How to set up an audio interface with logic express

i just got a deck board tascam us-1641, downloaded the driver, plugged in my keyboard but nothing is happening. What am I missing or not doing?

You probably have to set up Logic to use your audio interface.
You'll find these settings under the Logic menu > Preferences > Audio. Then you can select the preferred audio interface.

  • Mountain Lion crashes system preferences using Prism sound Orpheus?

    Hi I have a

Sorry, the "correct Answer" isnt correct! But the Problem seems to be solved!!!!
The solution seems to be a collection of a few actions, i read about here and on other sources. May be, one of the following was the the real single solution :
    1) repair of the access rights with Apples harddisk program
    2) deleting of all the local- user- and other caches with "yasu" (http://jimmitchell.org/yasu/)
    3) spec. manual deletion inside a terminal (was unable to locate by new finder ???)
              ˜/Library/Preferences /com.apple.systempreferences.plist
              ˜/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
              ˜/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.PrefPane.Network.xxx.plist
              ˜/Library/Preferences / com.apple.finder.plist
              ˜/Library/Preferences / com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    and at least
              ˜/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
May be, this last deletion did the job. After that "system preferences" works well and without crash anymore since yet. Also the curious delay while booting was away. Booting and spec. th shut down are now realy fast, very fast!!!
    Hope, it helps

  • Using Kontakt 4 as a plug-in, Logic Express sounds strange

I use Kontakt Player 4.1 as a standalone for GalaxyPianos and the sound is luscious and natural the keyboard plays like a Grand. When I use the same instance in Logic Express 9, it sounds cheap. The sound is flanged, it changes in quality from one note to the next. Not a huge amount mind you. Someone who was not a muso might say it sounds no different but it is very different.
I load everything as a standard, default new project with a software instrument, all default values. I have also tried loading mono, stereo, multi stereo etc and still it just doesn't sound right. What is produced by Kontakt as a standalone is way better than I am getting when it plays as a plug-in.
There are no load or latency issues but if I play a note the velocity seems noticeably lower in Logic than the stand alone. It almost sounds as though Logic is adding something to the sample.
    Any ideas?

Roland RD700GX USB direct to iMac

Aaaahhh, i see you have the same keyboard as I - the Roland RD700SX
make sure you have only 1 Layer button activated (let's say: upper 1). If you have selected all 4 layers, the RD700SX will output 4 notes at once (one for each active layer), and this may lead to crazy effects with Logic. So, press the "External" button on the RD700SX and de-activate "upper 2", "lower 1&2" or set them to different zones.
If you need the layers to trigger different instances of software instruments in Logic, make sure you have "auto demix by channel" activated in the logic MIDI recording preferences.

  • Can't sync Digi 002 as an interface for Logic Pro 7

I discovered Logic about a year after I had already purchased a Digi 002, and have been using it as my interface for Logic Express for about 6 months.  No problems.  I upgraded to Logic Pro 7 last month and now get only garbled sound and the following error message. "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi.  Sample rate 88215 recognized.  Check conflict between Logic and External Device."
I am trying to run Logic Pro 7.  I still also use Pro Tools LE version 7.0 which runs fine.  I can play itunes songs, Garage Band, movies, Pro Tools songs, etc., no problem, but not Logic Pro, or Logic Express.
When I switch to Built In Audio, Logic Pro works fine through the tiny built in speaker, but trying to use the Digi 002 as my interface all the sound comes out garbled.
I have been pulling out my hair for weeks.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Tony P.M. wrote:
The digi people also recommended buying the update for 7.3 and then updating to 7.3.cs4.  I am going to give that a try.  What does Pro App Support 4.0 do and where do I find it if you think that might help me?
That is what I'm running, and it works great. Give it a shot. You can do a search on this forum, or on the Apple Support section of the website, and search for that term (Pro Application Support).
Yes I have learned my lesson with auto update.  Live and learn.
Yes. Remember, a DAW machine is NOt a regular computer you can do whatever with. Audio software and hardware are finicky creatures that don't play nice if you're messing with their operating system willy-nilly.
I spoke with the Apple Store people today as well.  They suggest I spend $100 and sign up for one on one support and bring the whole **** set up in to the store and let them work on it. Seeing as how I am using a G5 tower, and we are talking about a digi 002 board, that is going to be alot of fun to lug across the mall.   I am just about that desperate though.  Any thoughts on one on one support in store?
LOL!!! they just want your money, and will most defniintely screw up your system. They'll update wrong, install stuff you don't want, and re-configure your system to THEIR liking. Stay away from the genius Bar. When it comes to Pro audio, they really know little or nothing. As an example, I went to my local Apple store recently and asked for a copy of Logic Pro. the helpful guy there responded "Logic what? we don't have that kind of software here."
    Thanks for the help.  Again.
You're welcome. Hopefully soon you'll have it up and running.
    Cheers

  • Logic Express 7.1.1 stuttering audio

Audio in Logic Express 7.1.1 stutters whenever stopped in the Arrange window - looping the same short bunch of samples over and over. Clicking on an audio instrument track solves this problem. This occurrs whenever I use an external audio interface (Echo Mona) - no problems with built-in audio. This problem does not occur using Logic Pro on the same laptop with the same Echo Mona interface.
Another user on a forum described exactly the same problem but using a Maudio Audiophile 24/96. His problem also was solved by clicking on an audio instrument or using Logic Pro. It appears Logic Express has an audio driver issue.
    Anyone else experienced this?

I have the same problem. However, opening the audio
    preference panel doesn't help me...
It's only Logic Express on my Edirol DA-2496 PCI
audio interface. iTunes wirks fine with that
interface and Logic Express wiorks fine with my Sound
    Sticks...
I hope somebody can help me...
    Wimek
I am nor sure about your particular problem, but I have noticed that express can "stutter" when playing if you have a Audio Instrument track highlighted in the arrange page.
If you do have a Audio Instrument highlighted, first hit "stop" then click on any Audio track (not an intrument) and hit play again.
    This worked for me.
(the opposite advice from that given above ?)

  • How to record V-Drums in Logic Express?

I’m trying to record my V-Drums through the M-Audio 2626 interface into Logic Express. I’m able to trigger sounds in the Logic Express library when I conned the MIDI-out on the V-drums to the M-Audio.
But I’d like to record the Roland drum sounds through Logic. Has anyone had success with this?
I tried connecting the audio out from the V-drums into channel 1 on the M-Audio with a 1/4-inch instrument cable. I can hear the drum kit through the M-Audio via the headphone jack, but not through Logic Express.
If anyone has successfully recorded Roland V-drums in Logic, any information would be helpful.
    Many thanks,

    Hi,
you're on the right way. You have to create an audio track in Logic (one for each output of the drums or simply a stereo track for the drum's stereo output - depending on your configuration).
    1. Select the appropriate channel of your M-Audio as the audio track's input
    2. Click the little red "R" to arm this track for recording or press the littel "I" to activate input monitoring for rehearsal.
    3. Start recording and there you are.
    4. Don't forget: Have fun!

  • Every second G-note is missed by Logic Express

    Hi,
I have really strange problem: logic express misses every second G-note (two octaves down from middle-C) that I press from MIDI-keyboard. It also misses all G-notes if I press something before the G-note.
This is not a keyboard problem: I have found same issue with two different keyboards and three different USB-midi-inputs. Neither it's hardware problem, I can switch octave from keyboard and it still happends. When I try "test midi" from OS X, I hear every note coming in to my mac, but every second G-note is missed by Logic. It's clearly something inside Logic Express since OS X receives the notes from keyboards all the time.
I have newest update for Logic Express and all OS X updates up to date.
    Any ideas?

    Hi there,
Just to make sure, download this:
    http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
Then check on the keyboard to make sure that it's producing what you expect.
Next, have you reassigned that key to a Logic Express key command? Or perhaps to another programme somewhere?
You could always try reseting the key commands, assuming you haven't set up lots of custom ones.
Open up the Environment (Command-8) and look at the the Clicks and Ports layer. There's a diagnostic tool in there that shows you what notes are coming in to Logic. That doesn't necessarily means what notes are going to the sequencer since you can filter notes out in the environment.
I'd also have a look at the Transform Window to see whether there's something wrong in that.
Sorry not to give you detailed instructions for all of these different actions - this post would be pages long so have a look in the manual and see if you can't figure out some of these advanced functions.
    Pete
