Interference over VGA?

I have a Sony Bravia next to my iMac, I used to output via DVI to a secondary monitor when the imac was in another room, however the Bravia doesn't support DVI only VGA.
I bought a miniDVI to VGA cable from the mac store, and connected everything up, including the audio. However, the audio is creating severe interference to the picture with horizontal bands.
I've had a PC, mac mini and even dreamcast hooked up to my TV before with no interference problems of any kind, via VGA and an audio cable. I am using the same cables actually.
So I am wondering; is it the miniDVI cable at fault or my iMac it's self?
I'm totally fed up of buying cables from the mac store, seeing how the miniDVI to DVI and DVI to vga are INCOMPATIBLE (even though they are both mac products)

guess I'll take the cable back then

  • Mac mini losing signal over vga when using adapter.

At my church we are installing 2014 Mac minis in the classrooms and occasionally when we power them up the main display works perfect but the projector which is plugged in through the mini display port to vga adapter the screen will just be blue like it does't have a signal. When I check in system preferences the computer shows both displays plugged in though. Powering off the projector doesn't fix the problem I have to manually unplug and replug in the adapter.

There is no limitation to get 16:9 out of VGA. How far away is the TV? What are you using for a cable? Do you get the result you want from a shorter cable?

  • Will I see difference between DVI over VGA monitors?

    hi all,
I have my G4s connected to one VGA LCD monitor via KVM adapter box. They both have video cards with DVI capabilities. Will I see a difference if I were to use a DVI monitor?
    Thanks
    Web dude

    Hi-
Yes, there will be a difference.
LCD monitors are digital, and so is the graphical data produced by the graphics card.
For VGA (analog) the graphics card converts the digital to analog, and the monitor reprocess that back to digital.
There is a loss of quality, lesser or greater varies with equipment.
If you change to DVI connection, you will need a DVI capable KVM that supports the optimal resolution of the display. I say this, because in the case of 1920 x 1200, not all KVMs can go that high.

  • How to check if you have 1:1 pixel mapping over VGA

    Hi
A few months ago I came across a picture you can set full screen and see if you have 1:1 pixel mapping. I cant for the life of me find this here or anywhere on Google. Does anyone have this file?
I have a suspicion that my screen is out half a pixel or something (I don't know if thats possible!!) but it just seems slightly blurry. When I do a screen shot a zoom in it doesn't look sharp either, lots of grey pixels around the words.

    Absolute success!
Its such a good feeling when you crack something, the checkerboard link you gave me showed my screen wasnt perfect, the image shimmered, whilst it was fine at work.
First of all thought it might be refresh rate, but Im locked at 60Hz in the mac setting, then remembered something I had read whilst exploring checkerboard links. It was to run an auto adjustment through the monitor (in my case a TV) settings, not the settings on the computer. Navigated the TV settings menu, happened to find an auto adjustment menu option for the PC input, and ran it.
Bam, screen blanked and then came back, and oh my goodness, it was like a veil had been lifted from in front of my eyes. The increase in sharpness was mind blowing. Its perfect 1:1 now. Absolutely stoked, my screen now looks like I hoped it would before getting the mini, its perfect!
Hopefully this helps someone sometime. Im just gunna insert some keywords relating to my TV that hopefully leads someone to this thread sometime so they can also have my joy too!

  • Mini-DVI to VGA issue

I'm trying to have my display go to my 26" Vizio tv.
However, when everything is plugged in, the display isn't showing up on the TV.
    Any Help?

This seems obvious, but I have to ask; is the Vizio set to the VGA input?
Have you tried alternate resolutions and refresh rates for the Vizio within Displays Preferences? If none of them causes the Vizio to light up, it could be a basic incompatibility between the Vizio and the MB over VGA. Some displays terminate the VGA horizontal and vertical sync lines into too low of an impedance for the MB, and it becomes unable to drive those lines to critical TTL threshold levels. If that's what's happening, you could try getting a Mini DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable and see if you get a better result out of that.

  • Mini DisplayPort - VGA and MBP 2011 not working

    Hi,
I can't get my 13" mbp 2011 to connect to VGA screens. I've bought a mini DisplayPort to VGA converter (an Apple one, not a no name) and if I connect a display over VGA the screen stays black. My mbp recognizes the display, I can see the display's model, resolution etc but no signal. I've tried multiple screens, none work.
I don't have other converters so I can't test if HDMI screens for example do work.
    Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 2011 13" i7 and am having the same issue when connecting it to my LG TV through the HDMI adapter. However when I connect it to my HP external monitor it works but it's VERY blurry... so blurry that it hurts the eyes to look at it for more than a few mins.
My previous MBP (2010 13") works fine however with both the TV and monitor. I even reconnected it just to make sure and they both work flawlessly.
I only have 14 days total to return this new MBP and 5 of those days are used up so if I can't get this fixed by then I have no choice but to return it and go back to my old MBP.

  • MacBook (2008) doesn't recognize Acer K11 projector over HDMI

I just bought an Acer K11 mini projector. Tried to hook it up with my MacBook (white, 2008) over a Mini DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable (HDMI goes into the projector), but the projector doesn't recognize a signal. The same cable/MacBook combination is working fine with my LCD-TV. So I guess the cables are okay.
When I connect the projector over VGA (Mini DVI to VGA adapter and the VGA to VGA cable, which came with the projector), everything is working fine. So this means, the MacBook generally recognizes the Acer K11.
My guess was, that the projectors HDMI port must have some problem. So I tried to hook up my second Mac, a MacBook Pro (2009), using a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter and the same DVI to HDMI cable I used with the MacBook. And I couldn't believe, this worked like a charm.
So, fact is, the Acer K11's HDMI port doesn't talk to the MacBook or vice versa. But TV's HDMI port does. And Acer K11's HDMI port DOES talk to the MacBook Pro.
(BTW, both Macs have Mac OS 10.6.4 installed.)
Of course I'm familiar with the displays preference pane and tried all the settings.
Does anyone have an explanation for that behaviour? Or even better, a solution to make it work?

I tried SwitchResX now. Holy moly, this tool should have a big warning sign on it! I added the new resolution of 858x600px since the projector states this is his native resolution. I was not sure what to add for the frequency, so I typed in 50. I hooked up the projector, but still no signal. So I switched the resolution of the MacBook's display to 858x600, hoping this might make display synchronisation possible. What happend is, the display turned black and I had no possibility to go back. I did a restart, but as soon as the system was up, the screen turned black again.
Lucky me I had a bootable back-up, from where I could trash SwitchResX and all the settings on the internal harddisk. No blame on SwitchResX. It seems to be a handy tool, as long as you really KNOW what you do.

  • Maximum Thunderbolt/VGA resolution for external displays?

    Hi there
Until recently, I've been using a Macbook Air Core 2 Duo with a MiniDisplayPort output. This is connected via the Apple MiniDisplayPort > VGA adaptor to an LG Flatron W2246 22" display, and running 1920x1080 quite happily.
I recently bought the Macbook Pro 15" quad core i7 with the Intel HD 3000 and AMD Radeon 6490M - a much more powerful machine with a much more powerful graphics card.
However, it only seems to allow me a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 on the Thunderbolt external display port - it won't give me an option for 1080p.
Any ideas? It seems strange that the Macbook Air will give me higher resultions!
    Thanks

I had similar issues to Jason with the technical documentation. It was clear on the maximum resolutions for the laptop's screen and the max resolution on an external monitor, and the max for single and dual link DVI on the adapter pages, but vague on VGA.
I suspected it should work since I have a PC laptop with a graphics card that is a generation behind that can do the full res of my monitor over VGA, but thank you BSteely for confirming this.

  • VGA and HDMI Problem

    Hello all,
I had my mac mini 1.83 Intel connected to my Mitzubishi 63927 via the PC connection a VGA 1920x1080 with the VGA to DVI interconnecter. I wanted to see if the quality would be better with a DVI to HDMI connecter. So I shut down my mini and switched out the cables. The resoulition was jacked! I had to scramble to the video prefrences and change the resolution to something else. 1024x768 I could see the screen. I tweaked the setting to 1920x1080 (interlased). I looked worse the the VGA connection. So I powered down and and pluged in the VGA connection back in. I computer starts up fine but there is now Video. A black screen. There are ocaisional bars of light that go across portionial to the resolution i selected in the DVI to HDMI video preferences. I loward the res in the DVI to HDMI connection sceeme tryed all variations. I VGA connection will not work. What do I do.

With the TV and mini hooked up over VGA, try starting in Safe Mode (hold down the shift key during a restart) and see if you get a useable screen that way. If you do, go into Display Preferences and select the resolution you desire (1920 x 1080). Then restart normally and hopefully that resolution will stick and you will be back to where you started when all was good.

  • Understanding iPAD VGA adaptors

    Hi All,
I got into a very embarrasing situation where we wanted to show an ipad app to 40 participants which did not work.  I was using the apple VGA adaptor.
I tried it with iPAD1 and it did not work at all and then I tried it with an iPAD2 and it works only 2 out of 10 times.
I will need to do a roadshow where I will need to use my iPAD1 to display the app over the LCD projectors over VGA and wanted to find if there is a possibility to make it work flawlessly.  Please let me know if there are any limitations with iPAD1 and if it will flawlessly with iPAD2 or iPAD3.
    Please help.
    Thanks

The ipad1 will only show apps that are specifically designed for VGA display.
The newer iPads should show all apps through a VGA display, except for some where that capability was deliberately removed by the developer (generally media providers).

  • 865G Neo2 Monitor interference

    Hey guys,
Wondering if someone might be able to help me.
    I just slapped together a celeron 2.6, 865G neo 2, 2 (pc 3200) DDR 400 Samsung.
My question is whether or not these are compatible with the motherboard. I seem to be getting some interference over the monitor.  Can anyone see a problem here?
    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies,
Have already tried ridding the environment around the monitor of EMI to no avail. I also happened to move house in between this drama, that also seemed to make no difference. The monitor itself is new, so essentially i'm trying to work out if I need to RMA it.
The problem doesn't occur when the computer is idle, but only after the HD/RAM?CPU fire up. Especially noticiable when loading up applications such as acrobat etc.
Will enabling the Spread spectrum in the bios cause any other performance issues?
    Will give it a whack.
    Thanks again for the advice.
Oh, without another psu is there another way to test whether or not it is the psu causing the disturbance?

  • Audio interference bet. iPhone and desk speakers has stopped

For the longest time, if my iPhone was in its dock and not in Airplane mode, I would get occasional crackling interference over my desktop speakers. Recently, it stopped. Completely. Is it possible that the 2.0 software has done this somehow?
That's the only change I can think of.

  • Mid 2012 Pro external VGA Display corrupt?

    I received my shiny new 13" macbook pro today and bought a mini displayport to vga connector from a local store. Unofrtunately my external display of choice shows some strange images when connected. It shows the desktop but divided into several shifted. Can't really describe it but i would say the screen is 1000 pixels wide it show them in the following order: 1-100;300-600;800-1000;800-1000;800-1000;
I installed the last update and i'm going to try it with another display tomorrorw. My old 2007 Macbook made no problems with the display when connected over VGA.
    Any Ideas?

Hi, I am experiencing very similar issues and have been discussing with Apple the problem. Please could you try something:
Shut down your computer. Then, connect the Display port to VGA addapter, book up and try again (don't forget to detect display if needed). Does this solve your problem? If so, I think there is a bug that I need to report on. It would be helpful to determine whether this solution only works for me!
    Thanks

  • 39L22U as PC Monitor: Resolution Problem

I recently purchased the 39L22U model. I was using HDMI from my laptop and getting full 1920x1080 resolution. I added another HDMI device to my system and moved my laptop to the VGA(PC) port, but now the max resolution I can set is oddly 1360x768. Either it is the "Generic PnP Monitor" driver not detecting the TV's true capability or the TV not accepting input from VGA over 1360X768.
    Specs:
    HDMI 1: XBOX 360
    HDMI 2: PS3
VGA/PC: Asus Laptop, Nvidia 210M, Windows 7 Ultimate
I know for certain both the TV and Laptop support full 1080P as I Got 1080P over HDMI, but can't over VGA.

Yes, VGA cables are capable of 1080p and higher and the typical limiting factor is the graphics card of your computer. There are two drawbacks to VGA. First, it may be a tiny bit blurry since the signal has to be converted to analog and then back to digital (also the chance of interference). Secondly, it has no HDCP capabilities so you can't play HDCP content over a VGA cable.
Personally I always go with the digital cables over the analog cables."
What? You know anything about VGA? VGA Can output up to 2048×1536px.  1360 x 768 is not acceptable. Toshiba needs to fix this. I have this same issue too:

  • IMAC =HDTV&HOME THEATER

How can i connect my IMAC to both HDTV(LG) and LG surround system (home theater) and get everything to work as one i.e IMAC to work on both TV & SURROUND SYSTEM. I got HDMI cables . I will appreciate  your help.

I don't think it work work for HD, at 800 MHz G4. Not enough graphics or CPU processing power to display HD at full screen without a lot of dropped frames.
Also, there is no way to connect a digital display over HDMI. You may be able to get acceptable standard def results with connecting it over VGA or other analog connection, but I believe an iMac G4 only mirrors the built-in display. So it may be stuck at 1024x768 as the max resolution. A typical HDTV's native resolution is 1920x1080.
You should test the output from the mini-VGA port using a regular multi-sync CRT display, if you happen to have one collecting dust or know someone that has one. See what resolutions you can achieve. You won't get any better if you connect it to an HDTV.
