Interim patch vs database patch

Hi,
I want to know the exact difference between Interim patch and database patches.
First of all my understanding is that ,Database patches are applied for some ORA-related errorrs as suggested by document id.where as interim patches are applied on ORA_HOME.
plz correct me if i am wrong?and give me complete details about them.
Also i want to know,is there any database patch for ORA-1555 error?
Thnx

plz correct me if i am wrong?and give me complete details about them. All patches are applied on binaries i.e. ORACLE_HOME and some patches also have some scripts to be run to update data dictionaries.
For interim patch explanation please refer to MOS :
Oracle Data Server Interim Patch Installation (OPatch) [ID 189489.1]
Also i want to know,is there any database patch for ORA-1555 error?ORA-155 occurs due to undo tablespace.
check MOS note :
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE (TSG) - ORA-1555 [ID 467872.1]

  • 10.1.2.0.2 OID not listening after database patch 10.0.5

    Hi
I've installed database patch 10.0.5 to an Oracle Infrastructure 10.1.2.0.2. The software and scripts installed with no problems. I started the OID server using:
    opmnctl start process-type=OID
Which always worked before and it returns with no errors. But OID is not listening on port 389. dcmctl start will throw an error trying to connect to OID.
    Any ideas?

The readme for the patch has very detailed instructions !
OID needs to be up as you say plus the other components. But there is a good prereq checker before you run it.
If worried do a backup of $OH , the inventory and the IASDB then give it a try, if it fails just restore.

  • Database patch 5 for CM

    Hi all,
After succesfully installing EP SP2 with patch 29 and CM patch 4 too after that, I wanted to upgrade CM to the last patch too.
I first deployed patch 5 for CM, succesful operation, but after that the documentation guide showed to apply the patch 5 for database (included in this CM patch)
During the patching of oracle instance I had the following error:
    DROP INDEX "IX_CMCC_TABLE1"
ORA-01418: specified index does not exist
    followed by exception.
I have a look on oracle errors, but dont know how to solve it.
Can someone help me solving this, because I havent done a backup to my database, but only to the instance used.
When I logon in the portal after that in the KM Content it gives an exception saying is waiting for a patch.
    Best regards,
    Raluca.

    Hi,
I am having the same problem.
Did you maybe find a solution for this?

The patch(set) documentation is included in the patch zip file. The best way to learn about patching database should be to build a test db, then try to patch/upgrade it.

  • Patching Oracle Database

    Hi all
    11.2.0.3
    Aix 6.1
I am new to this company. My boss give me task to apply all the patches not yet applied to our databases which is recommended by Oracle, and
bring our database to the latest patch available in the MOS.  This is mandated by the corporate auditor to bring our database to the latest patch
specially the security patches. My boss mentioned all the RDA, PSU, One-off patches should be applied. Where can I find the inventory of latest patches
in MOS? How many types of database patches are there?  What do you mean by RDA, PSU, and One-off? What do you call the patch 11.2.0.3.5 ? is it one-off/rda/psu? I also download patch 11.2.0.3 and I found it to be 5Gb in size? Am I getting the right file?
    Thanks a lot,

    I thank you all,
My question is where can I download or find these quarterly patches generated by oracle? Is an email sent to the members that the quarterly security patch is already available? To which folder should I download it from?
Where you think you can download the patches from? You should be knowing this by now since you have spent  a lot of time on the forums already . The patches are distributed from My Oracle Support and needs a valid CSI before you attempt to login to that website. If you are a valid customer, you would get email from MOS. To which folder you should download it from, well not from a folder but from a website MOS.

  • Operating System And Database Patch

    Hello everyone,
Does Sap have a specific note about operating system and database patch management? It is important for
me for applying operating system and database patches.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking about but usually the operating system vendors have to make sure that applications work as before after a patch.
Since SAP applications run on many different combinations of operating systems and databases together with different kernels and/or database clients it's impossible to test them all in all combinations.
SAP has no notes with "don't use Hotfix A,B,C on your Windows machine together with Hotfix D or E on the database server"; known issues are listed in the notes for the patches themselves (on the vendors websites, not SAP).

    Hi Susan,
    2 possible solutions:
    1. as root user, "chmod -R 777 /tmp" and retry start CRSdon't set it to 777 as it would lead to a security nightmare.
the problem is indeed a permission problem. the script tries to write to the file as user oracle and to remove it afterwards. the error message is from the removal.
check, if oracle user can create files in /tmp and if not fix it by setting the proper permissions which are 1777 (drwxrwxrwt).
