Interlacing Problems - Someone please help... on deadline- thanks!

Question

Hi- I have a bunch of NTSC 1080i60 footage that says it's field dominance is upper (odd).
I've place them in a sequence and let the sequence conform to the clip, so it has the same settings.
I'm aiming to burn a dvd so I send it to Compressor and use the "DVD: Best Quality" preset. Then when the m2v is done and I play it in DVDSP or burn it to a DVD and play it on TV I'm getting what looks like an interlacing problem.
What am I doing wrong? I realize also that it won't look as sharp as a m2v, but how can I make it look the best?
Looking at the video settings in Compressor>Inspector>Video Format, I see that the field dominance is set to Top First!?! Perhaps this is the problem... should I change it to Progressive???
Bottom line is A) how do I get rid of the interlacing problem without making it fuzzy and B) what are the best settings I should use to get the sharpest looking DVD possible.

Hello Robert.
I just did the same thing. I found out that you need to mess with the frame controls to get the best results.
In the Encoder tab, I set the following:
In the video format, I select "Progressive" for the field dominance
In the quality tab, I use 2 pass VBR, with the default bitrates. I set the motion estimation to "better"
In the Frame Controls tab, I set the following:
Enable frame controls.
Select Progressive in the Output Fields drop box.
I have Resize Filter, Deinterlace, and Rate Conversion all set to "Better"
I leave adaptive details checked, although most in this forum that I have seen recommend unchecking that. I tried a bunch with and without, and couldn't tell a difference in render times.
I have anti-aliasing set to 10.
This gives me the best combination of picture quality and render times.
Using these settings, with an 8 core cluster setup, it took 17 hours to render a 40 min video.
