Interleaving or Fast Latency?

I have bee looking at my ADSL stats quite a lot recently and have published here a very recent one where the DL in over 16Mbps but then realise that my Latency has changed from Interleaving to FAST. Should I read anything into this? Ist this to maintain a more stable connection and will it automatically change back to Interleaving?

HHGTTG asked:
Ist this to maintain a more stable connection and will it automatically change back to Interleaving?
It's actually the oposite ...
An interleaved connection will give better stability but a slight cost, that being the extra overhead consumed and a degree
of latency (sluggishness) depending on the depth of the interleave. There are various levels of interleave depth, according to the amount of error correction that DLM needs to stabilise.
If your line is running fastpath ... in reality it means that it is above average in conditions condusive to transmit the DSL and is ok to go as it is .... any error correction will be done by a trellis modulation system within the code of the DSL standard.
Also ... and this is purely my own opinion. BT Wholesale who own the technical systems and such for their Dynamic Line Management systems which run the BT network, never publicly publish details of technicalities about DLM, for obvious reasons .... however it is my own opinion that more and more lines are now modulating fastpath DSL which leads me to think they have changed the goalposts slightly about interleave, simply because gamers prefer fastpath to allow for better latency free gaming.

  • Want to Change Latency from "Interleaved" To "Fast...

I used to have "Fast" latency which helped smooth play on xbox live, but when i turned my router on and off over a period of a few days (When i was rearranging my room) i noticed that my internet had slowed down, i checked and i had an "Interleaved" latency type! I wish to go back to "Fast" as it helped.
    Thanks.

  • Interleaving or Fast connection NOW SOLVED

    Hi All,
can someone tell me what the difference is between Interleaving or Fast connection?
I am on Interleaving connection and get full wack 8 Meg connection where as my sis is on about 6 meg and lives round the corner and is on fast connection.

try this link it trys to explain what the difference is between them.  But in basic interleaving helps to maintain a stable line when on a ADSL max connection and trys to correct errors. so if you have a unstable line setting in to fast would not be advised.

that is showing that interleaving is working personally unless you really must have interleaving turned off i would leave it on as it improves stability going to fast path could make your line unstable if you want to go to fast path you need to contact the forum mods this is a link to them and ask them to turn off interleaving

  • Need switching back to interleaved.

Couple of days ago the homehub3 has decided it will switch back to "Fast" latency from "interleaved" and has been causing issues which has needed me to unplug the DSL line and replug it back in after the Broadband light has switched off every evening and morning. This is causing issues when attempting to play games on steam or minecraft such as horrible lag and being kicked off the server cause i am "moving too fast" in minecraft
Can I phone up BT India and get them to switch me back to interleaved as "fast" latency is having more issues than normal with "interleaved" or do the mods need to do this.

  • I'd like to change my latency type from Interleavi...

I would like to change my latency type from Interleaving to Fast. How would I go about doing so/who do I contact.
I have checked previous threads, but old links on such threads do not work anymore.

Thanks for the quick reply. Things make more sense now. I read up about the DLM and yes apprently it must have changed it over around the time I had a lot of visitors with their laptops and what not. This is just an educated guess here but a lot of resetting of the router went on during their visits, at least once or twice a day for a while now and it's possible THAT is what made the change of the latency setting.
It may be fine if I just advise everyone to not touch it at all and it will change back in a period of time. But just to check because I do know myself that the line and connection was pretty stable even before all this, with a lot better latency (which is what I want the most). Is it possible to force change it back? Thank you.

  • ADSL keeps switching between 'fast' and 'interleav...

    Hello
I wonder if you could tell me if there is some reason why my line profile / ADSL latency keeps being switched between 'fast' and 'interleaved'. Everytime it is switched from interleaved to 'fast' I lose download speed. It has just changed again today and as a result my download speed has (according to my BT Home Hub Manager) dropped from 6.3MB (yesterday) to 3.2MB (now). Is it possible to have the line profile left as 'interleaved' so that I can enjoy the extra download speed ?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Want to change latency type on my line

Last year I had a new line laid into my home after 3 years of problems with the old one. Earlier this year I opted for the upto 20 Meg speed, my line is outputting around 18.6 which is fine however recently i've been experiencing disruption to my line.
Sometimes the Hub will reset itself, then when it comes on the broadband light flashes yellow for ages whilst the other lights are blue sometimes upto 5 mins will go by, requiring me to reset it manually to achieve a stable blue light & connection.
I've checked my latency type and found its interleaved. My old line was Fast type as I a game alot and I need a fast stable connection. I think it must have been an oversight when they connected my new line at the exchange they forgot to use the same settings, I do have an I-plate installed so its not an interference thing either.
Is there anyway I can get my Latency set to Fast type please?. My download speeds are stable although sometimes erratic so its not a line problem I have just an exchange setting.

    DC74 wrote:
Right, then clearly theres something not quite right with my line then, shouldn't be taking ages to re-sync after a reset. Is fast latency still better for gamers though?
Depends on your definition of "better for gamers".....
You either have an interleaved connection that affords stability, maintained IP profile, and maximum sync rate, with maybe the addition of roughly 20-40 milliseconds latency to server connections, as a worst case scenario.
Or you have a slightly lower latency connection, with no forward error correction, possible rise in noise margin, resulting in lower sync speeds and associated IP profile and throughput.
A no brainer really ....  over to you.

  • Slow Speed after Latency type has been changed

    Hi,
the last few days I have noticed that my broadband speed has gone down hill big time.. according to speedtester.bt.com my DSL connection rate is: 20504kbps (down-stream) and my IP Profile is 18090kbps, but my download speed is 2411kbps which is below the acceptable range for my connection.
I logged onto my BTHH3 and found that my latency type has changed from Interleaved to Fast, I have noticed that my CRC & HEC (down) are much higher than before..
Should I leave it for a few days to see improvment or ask the mods to change the latency type back to Interleaved
    Thanks in Advance

  • BT Infinity - Changing Latency type

    Hello!
I have read a few articles that say that you cant change your latency type from Interleaved to Fast Path with BT Infinity because the modem is in a little white box and not part of the HH.
This is only the case for some people though. I still connect with the telephone wire and not the WAN port. I have always had a brilliant connection (noise wise etc.) and have always hit the theoretic max of my broadband on ADSL2 and now VDSL.
Would I be able to request my latency type be changed to Fast Path (as I assume it isn't that, although you can't tell with modern HH's) as I do not have this seperate modem box?
    Thanks,
    Craig

That's right, you can't. DLM handles the transition automatically.

  • Get interleaving Turned off?

    Hi,
My problem is that around 2 hrs ago my hub dropped its connection and reconnected , however now the latency type is on Interleaved not FAST anymore. I play alot of games online and this is important to me. When contacting BT Live Chat they said they cant turn it off as i am on ADSL+2 line, but seems strange that in the past about 6 months ago they where able to?
Is this correct, or are they telling me lies?
    Thanks

Interleaving will have turned on automatically if the exchange equipment has seen your line as unstable could you please post your hub stats then we can advise you further

  • Software Monitoring Latency

Folks: I know some latency is unavoidable but this seems way too high - I'd say around 20-50 msec, something like a slapback echo, pretty much unusable. I have no plugins on the channel, Low Latency mode is checked, Compensation set to "Audio and Software Instruments", limit 5 msec. Have tried IO buffer sizing from 1024 down to 32 samples seemingly with no effect. Funny thing, I don't remember this problem from when I was using Logic 7. Would appreciate some ideas.
    thanks Bark

    you are on M-Audio?
I think you can obtain a faster Latency by using the Mac Built-in Audio Input...
M-Audio is a Avid product... it is not good for Logic..
Ask to M-Audio and check for drivers...
there are problems with Leopard 10.5.6 and Avid device drivers!
