Intermedia Web Agent - OAS 4.0.8.1
Anyone have success setting up the Intermedia Web Agent on NT with OAS 4.0.8.1? I have tried to configue the Web Agent product with OAS 4.0.8.1. The CWeb catridge is not functioning properly -- it will not start.
Thoughts?

This certainly going to be a possible problem. But once over this use metalink note 101361.1 to help.

My Intermedia Web agent and Clipboard doesn't work!
Hi,Simon
I'v just downloaded the Intermedia Web agent and Clipboard plugin from OTN a few days ago.But both of it don't work when I install it.Would you please help me look for the reason?
My operating system is Windows 2000 Professional, and my web server is OAS 4.0.8.1,and my database is 8i.
When I visit these address"http://host:port/intermedia/^about"and "http://host:port/intermedia/admin",the browser returns to me a error page.
When I connect to host in Clipborad,it returns to me an error message which says"The following error was received from the intermedia web agent,<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Invalid host specified</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>The request did not specify a valid virtual host</BODY>
I don't know if this web agent can work with OAS 4.0.8.1 and if OAS 4.0.8.1 can run in the Windows 2000 Professional.
Thanks
nullHi,Simon,
Thank you for your help!I have sent my application information to your product manager by email!
But the error stll appears. When I typed the whole domain name in the host area of Clipborad, the error message changed to "An application error has occured, please try again!".When I typed the address"http://My host:port/intermedia/~about"(I have substituted ^ with ~ )"and "http://My host:port/intermedia/admin",it still returns an error page which says"HTTP 500 Server internal error......"like before!
Also,I found other errors about OAS.One Application cannot add the second Cartridge,it returns an error:"OWS-09103:Cartridge section'[Application wscWRBApp" when I do it.So I suspect the reason is my operating system platform,I will try to reinstall it now.

I have found documentation on InterMedia Web Agent for 8.1.5 and 8.1.7, but not for 8.1.6.
We are running RDBMS 8.1.6, OAS 4.0.8.2 on Solaris 2.6. I have configured one of our databases with the InterMedia Text option, and plan to configure our OAS for it. Where can I get related InterMedia Web Agent documentation and download for this environment? Metalink couldn't give me an answer.
Thanks.Hi,
Your posting references both interMedia Web Agent and interMedia Text option:

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
There is no relationship between interMedia Web Agent and interMedia Text option. interMedia Web Agent is designed to facilitate the web-based upload and retrieval of multimedia image, audio, and video data stored using the corresponding interMedia multimedia object types in an Oracle8i database. interMedia Text option is a powerful text-based indexing and search tool with support for a range of [text-based] content formats.
You do NOT need interMedia Web Agent to use interMedia Text option. However, if you need interMedia Web Agent to upload and retrieve multimedia data using HTML forms and pages, you can download release 8.1.5.4.1, which includes support for OAS 4.0.8.2, from the interMedia software download page on OTN.
Hope this clarifies the situation.
In order to better understand the variety of ways in which our customers are using interMedia, we'd be very interested in knowing a little more about your application, the interMedia functionality that you are using, and how you are developing and deploying your application. If you are able to help us, please send a short email message with some information about your application, together with any comments you may have, to the Oracle interMedia Product Manager, Joe Mauro, at Thank you!

InterMedia Web Agent problems...
I have Oracle 8.1.5 and OAS 4.0.8 on an NT machine. I have installed interMedia Web Agent, having shut the OAS services down first, configured the application as described in the doc and restarted all services. I have one listener for OAS on port 90. When I try to access http://servername:90/intermedia/~admin I get a 'Page cannot be displayed' error. Why?
I have checked all the settings within OAS and they look fine. NT is running SP5. I can access http://servername:90/ fine.
Any help gratefully received!
LeeThe interMedia web agent is installed in the
OAS home and you can see the intermedia application and cartridge in the OAS admin page?
Have you checked the OAS wrb.log file? That is where errors should be displayed. If it is a web agent problem, check <windows_dir>wsclstch.err or log files in <OAS_HOME>/ord/web/logs.
What do they say about starting the agent?
Test the agent with http://host:port/intermedia/~test

Is there also an Intermedia Web Agent available for Oracle Application Server (4.0.8.2) running on Unix
Regards
JPHi,
The Web Agent supports OAS 4.0.8.2 on Solaris only. You can download the latest kit, which is version 8.1.5.4.1, from the following URL: http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/intermedia/software_index.htm

Intermedia web agent for IIS - crashes from time to time
Hi,
We have Intermedia images in a table on our Oracle 8.1.6 Database.
We have a web server (Running IIS 4) and a database server, both running on NT 4 and on two seperated computer but in the same LAN.
We have installed the Intermedia web agent for IIS and it usually works fine, but every 3 days or so it crashes. On the "ISAPI filters" form of the IIS a red "down arrow" is shown next to the intermedia's DLL.
I click on "edit", "apply" and "ok" and then I restart the IIS. The filter starts to function again like nothing happened.
Do you have any idea why it happens?
This is critical because we can not go "production" without making sure this thing works without crashed.
Thanks,
Lior King,
Internet Dept. manager.
ImageID Ltd.
nullI don't know from the screenshots. Is there anything in your log files? /var/log/* that corresponds to the time of the crash?
Have you considered that it is a hardware problem? Try running memtest86+ to see if it's bad memory. Check for SMART errors on your filesystems with smartmontools.

I've seen the code for Oracle8i interMedia Web Agent to store BLOBs in the DB but i see that it does not fits the OBC4J Framework.
How do we create a domain in my EO/VO for a BLOB column to be able to stream the bytes?
(I know already how to put/get the BLOB using JDBC.)
Thanks.
nullWe (the interMedia group) will be shipping new JDBC compliant JAVA classes for interMedia on OTN in the near future. With these classes (and JDeveloper 3.1 with its improved object support) you can create bc4j domains for the types you need by extending the interMedia java classes and adding extra methods and overriding existing ones.

Intermedia Web Agent error MWM-00622
Has anyone encountered the error "MWM-00622 Error Describing
PL/SQL procedure" when using the web agent?
I am using the interMedia web agent to upload images to a BLOB.
Everything works fine, until I pass a table as a parameter to
the ord_call procedure of mediaput.
Does the mediaput procedure accept tables as parameters?
Thanks! The mediaput procedure only takes varchar2 type parameters and
some reserved parameters, such as content_blob as BLOB type.
Those varchar2 type parameters should have names that exist in
the HTTP request headers or HTML FORM INPUT names. Otherwise,
MWM-00622 error will be thrown.
In your case, do you pass in a table name as a parameter? What
do you mean pass a table to mediaput procedure? If it's a table
name, then it should be OK if the parameter name exists in the
FORM INPUT name.

Intermedia web agent MWM-00067 error
I've installed the intermedia web agent (Release 8.1.5.3) on a Netscape Web Server (version 4.1), running on Solaris 2.6.
Encountering the following after recycling the web server:
MWM-00067 nonrecoverable initialization or termination error
Help!
Thanks.
nullIt was a directory issue. Change the User and Group for apache to the oracle user, or chmod the $ORACLE_HOME/ord/web/logs directory so that it's writeable by the apache user.

How to install interMedia web agent
Hi folks,
I downloaded im8154_lnx.zip (interMedia Web Agent 8.1.5.4) for linux
from Oracle. The webserver I am using is Oracle HTTP server.
Before I install the web agent, the HTTP server works fine.
I read the document for installing interMedia web Agent, however,
it is not the case when I tried to install the agent. For example,
the doc asks me to include mod_oraordwscias.conf in the oracle_apache.conf file,
but the mod_oraordwscias.conf file doesn't exist. I only have three
files in the /ord/web/apache/:
mod_oraordwsc.c mod_oraordwsc.h mod_oraordwsc.module
I also don't understand what's the file mod_oraordwsc.module for.
Does anyone know how to make the interMedia Web Agent module works with
Oracle HTTP server? Thank you so much.
Best regards,
Kai HuangHi Kai,
The interMedia Web Agent is not available for the Oracle HTTP
server on Linux, nor are there plans to port it or support it on
any platforms or web server configurations other than those shown
below. For information on alternatives to the Web Agent,
please see the interMedia software page on OTN:
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/intermedia/software_index.htm
The closest equivalent of the Web Agent is the interMedia Code
Wizard for the PL/SQL Gateway.

Intermedia Web Agent/Browser Cache
We have had an ongoing problem in that images retrieved from the database through the web agent using procedures created with the Clipboard do not cache in any IE browser. When doing an image/properties in the browser, the size shows as -1 and the type shows as "unknown". The pixel size is correct. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so is there a solution?
OAS 4.0.7.1,
Web Agent/Clipboard 8.1.5.3
Oracle 8.1.6
NT 4.0 service pack 3.
ThanksHi,
Unfortunately, I can't explain this behavior
from the perspective of the web agent. I've
tried this with both IE4 and IE5 and both
work fine when it comes to storing an
image into the cache. Here are some ideas
for things to try that may help get started
along the path to finding out what's
happening.
Take a file, eg test.jpg, and place it into
a web server content directory and load the
same file into a simple table [eg, create
table test_tab (file_name varchar2(64),
the_image ordsys.ordimage); then use the
clipboard to get/put/set procedures].
Verify that IE caches the file when retrieved
from the content directory but not from the
database. eg: http://host/test_dir/test.jpg http://host/intermedia/sample/mediaget/get_img/test.jpg
Assuming the file is cached when retrieved
using the 1st URL but not with the 2nd, the
next thing is to see what's coming back for
headers. Use TELNET to connect to port 80 at
the host, then type:
HEAD http://host/test_dir/test.jpg HTTP/1.1and
HEAD http://host/intermedia/sample/mediaget/get_img/test.jpg HTTP/1.1(Remember to type an extra RETURN after the
HEAD to complete the HTTP header)
Check that the content-type header looks OK,
that the content-length header is present
and correct and that there's a last-modified
header. (I'm not sure whether IE needs the
last one or not for caching purposes.)
Although the content-type header should be
correct, again, I'm not sure if IE needs it
or not. I do know that IE places a lot of
emphasis on the file type (extension) and
being able to recognize the content type
from the first chunk of bytes in the data:
it looks for certain byte sequences. However,
in the test I did, I tried it without a
file extension and it worked OK.

nullHi,
The problem here is that the web agent has to be installed into the same Oracle home as Oracle HTTP Server/Oracle Portal. Unfortunately, this was omitted from the web agent's installation README. (This has just been fixed and the new version has just been replaced on OTN.) To get the web agent up and running, de-install it from the Oracle8i home and re-install it into the Oracle HTTP Server/Oracle Portal home.
Sorry about the README, hopefully this will get you going.

I have installed the Web Agent on IIS and when I run the ../intermedia/~about I get the message 'The remote procedure call failed'. This does not look like an Oracle error but may be one.
I have chacked ALL logs and there is no information to say something is wrong. I have check the ISAPI filter and it is running and I have chacked the web directory containing the DLL and this looks fine.
Any help?
LeeFirst of all, check the following locations for Web Agent log files:
- <Oracle_Home>\ord\web\logs\wsc_yymmdd_pid.log
- wsclstchr.err under %SystemRoot% (NT) or /tmp (unix)
If you don't have log files there, that means you are not getting to Web Agent yet. The problems have occured somewhere before you get to Web Agent. -
InterMedia Web Agent Unrecoverable error
Hi
Trying to rebuild Apache with Web Agent Module
However there is a problem
The rebuild is aborted and the error is as follows:
"unreceoverable initialization error"
Which is traced to the file libwsc81.a
LD_LIBRARY_PATH are defined and have been set to $ORACLE_HOME/lib
Any reason
tahnk youThe mod_oraordwsc.module file in your Web Agent directory has to contain
-L${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
and the ORACLE_HOME has to be set properly at the time of Apache configuration. Make sure these, and run ./config and make again. Also, the ./config file has to contain the -activate and -enable-module strings as they are described in the instruction file in the Web Agent directory.
I have a question. Are you sure it is libwsc81.a, not libwscapc81.a?
