Intermittant extremely slow download time ( 1Mbps) in recent 1-2 months

Hello. Ever since I 'upgraded' to the Comcast router with integrated switch and Wi-Fi (perhaps a year ago?), I have seen higher speeds, but also more frequent problems.  I have not complained because the issues were intermittent and not too frequent.  This past month or two, the issues have become intolerable. I have seen dropped connection issues on Windows devices, Apple devices, my Samsung Smart TV (streaming NetFlix, for example), and my Amazon Echo.  Almost everything is wi-fi. I have repeatedly tried <every> suggestion I could find on Comcast's web site, as well as many others.  Rebooting everything, resetting the router, anti-virus scan, network scan, etc. Today, I have disconnected everything except one Windows laptop (over Wi-Fi), rebooted the router, and rebooted the laptop.  The problem persists. Web browsing, file downloading, sending/receiving email are all virtually unusable. Speedtest.net often reports good ping times (~10ms), bad download time (~0.06Mbps), and good upload time (10-11Mbps).  Today I see 4ms, 0.22Mbps, and 0.24Mbps. What can I do to determine if it is a problem with the router, or something else? Thanks for any help.

Today, I have reset the router to factory default, and only changed the admin password, wi-fi password and SSID.  Only my Windows laptop, iPhone, and iPad are on the network now. The problem persists.  Internet access is almost useless, and speedtest.net fails to complete the download test. tracert to comcast.net is repeatedly clean, while tracert to other networks looks to me like there is a problem between Comcast and other ISPs. Does this mean I can stop mucking with my own stuff? BTW: Any device I tether to my phone to use the AT&T 4g uplink, works fine. ====================================================================== C:\>tracert comcast.net Tracing route to comcast.net [69.252.80.75]

  • EXTREMELY slow download times!

I am trying to download the keynote presentation from today's event (850.6 MB). It started out saying 22 minutes, and now it's up to 8 HOURS!! What in the world could be causing this? Could my ISP be slowing down the download?
    What's up?
    Vidg

I chatted with an Apple rep online, and she said that the apple servers are busy from the updates.

  • Extremely slow download time for quicktime and itunes

When clicking to download quicktime and itunes, I get a message saying it will take 10h 10mins to download, even though its only 36MB! I've been trying for a few hours to download from different sites, deleting the old quicktime from the comp and restarting, but to no avail. Does anyone know what causes this problem or how to fix it? All other sites and downloads are working as quickly as usual.
    Cheers!

It's not fair for Apple to produce a 5gb upgrade with no option to get it on CD instead of download.  Obviously their own servers cannot handle the demand.  The blogs are littered with complaints - not just one ISP but many.
By the way, apple - did you know that many of your customers have monthly download limits from their ISP?  They're probably going to pay more for the overages than they would have for a CD with the update on it.
Please change this for the next update.

  • Extremely slow download from Itunes store when on NAS

    Hi All,
Since the latest Itunes update 10.6 I've been experiencing extremely slow download from the store. Set up is as follows (with all the latest firmware and software upgrades done on everything)
ITunes DB and XML locally stored on HDD
Itunes Media Folder stored on NAS DNS-323
DNS 323 NAS hardwired to network by 1000 Gb LAN Connection
         Cabled Internet connection at 60Mbps
There is no issue running Itunes from the NAS to MAC / APPLETV and other devices across the network wirelessly or hardwired, except when downloading purchases from the ITunes Store. One HD tv show takes 4 hours to download and averages 1Mbps speed.
After running some test with various configuration it seems that the fact that the Downloads folder located within the ITunes Media folder (now stored on the NAS) is causing the poor download speed. When the Download folder is local on a HDD  it's got no problem reaching 60Mbps.
Unfortunately there is no way to tell ITunes to keep the Downloads folder local and the ITunes Media folder on NAS, it always stays within the Itunes Media folder no matter where this folder is located.
Permitting Itunes to keep the Downloads folder locally while downloading files and transferring the files to the ITunes Media folder (wherever it's located) once it's fully downloaded might be the simple solution to this common problem.
How about testing this out Apple!

I have some information to add to this.  I've been seeing these problems for quite some time since I started downloading in HD.  My library is rather large so I too decided to use another drive.  My case is different though I have and extra 2 TB internal drive and my media folder is on it.  This rules out all Wifi, network, or USB bottlenecks as a cause of the problem.  I have noted a few oddities about this behavior and I will mention them here although I am not sure what they mean.
    1.  If I set up a long list of downloads it seems to crawl on all downloads.  If I kill the "apple push" process the top two seem to speed up.  I have to maintain the list and only enable two downloads at a time to get anywhere near reasonble speeds but this method is great for one or two downloads at a time.
    2.  I was curious about this problem after watching it download for hours on a 24MBPS connection for just a few shows.  When I did yet another search I finally found this thread so I thought checking something out might be interesting.  I set up some HD movies to download on my secondary system that only has one hard drive.  Although not at full speed they began downloading much faster.  Three movies are all downloading on the single drive system faster than the one alone on the system with the Itunes media folder on a different drive.
Both systems are hard wired to the internet.
Finding this thread made me very curious I was wondering if there would be a performance boost if I uninstalled Itunes, and re-installed it on the media drive.  I really wanted that drive to be storage only but it makes me wonder if it would give different results or the same problem from not being on the OS drive.
Both systems are running Windows 7, and both are able to download streaming content, large files, or movies from other sites relatively instantly.

  • Extremely slow download speeds and internet browsing on Macbook pro

I recently got a 13"" macbook pro. System config - Maverick OS/i7 dual core/8GB RAM/750 GB HDD, Almost 690GB of free space available. I am expriencing extremely slow download and internet browsing speed. I have to wait for almost 10-12 seconds for normal sites to download. The app updates and downloads are painstakingly slow.
The internet speeds are working perfectly fine on my Windows Laptop, and even on my mobile phones. So, the there's no issue of network. Also, I have cleared safari cache etc, just to be sure. But nothing's really helping.
Can any one help me here.
    Thanks !
    Chetan

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If the answer is no, do that now and see whether there's any change.
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Extremely slow download s

Since last night, I have been getting extremely slow download speeds(.18mbs, yes .18mbs!) and 30mbs upload speeds. Called Verizon support and after the usual checks, they told me no one else in may area reported anything like I did and so they are sending me a new router to replaced the one I have since they believe that the router is the problem! After reading about the fios users in Tampa and their problem of slow download, I now have doubts about Verizon support. Any suggestions from the forum members? Thank you. Joe

After spending hours on the phone and 5 hour with a tech at my home there was no resolution. The tech checked cabling splitters and connected directly to the modem from the ONT outside. Still nothing. We tried with 3 different computers and nothing. Went to tier 3 support and still nothing resolved. The next morning another tech came with a company laptop. He did the usual checks and still no resolution to the problem. He was getting 0 download and  0 upload on his laptop. He finally connected his laptop directly to the ONTO outside and after some time he said that my parameters were all messed up. He had to reset them with the office and after a couple of hours all was back to normal. 35 Mbps up and down!
While the tech was checking out the connection at the ONT, I asked him if it were possible that the reason I had next to nothing download was because Verizon throttled down the speed by mistake with some other account. He just looked at me and didn't really say anything but 2 hours later all was OK! My advise to you is keep calling them and if they don't reply, tell them you will call FCC or any other consumer agency you can think of.
A far as Comcast, to use a popular phrase, Better the Devil you know than the devil you don't know! I hear that comcast is no saint either!
    Good luck.
    Joe

  • Sudden slow download time

    Helloooo,
My ATV has always downloaded nearly instantaneously, even HD movies...5 minutes MAX from order to watch.
In August, I upgraded my internet to Comcast business class, I believe it's at 11mbps, but I consistently test out (www.whatismyip.com) around 10mbps (but as high as 20). My ATV has no wireless network connection. Download times decreased even beyond what I'd previously been experiencing.
Now, with no changes internally to my network, TV shows that previously were immediately available are now taking 20+ minutes to download...movies...forget about spontaneous movie watching, we're now looking at a few hours to make popcorn.
I have to say, too, that increased download times are not limited to my ATV; my MBP also experiences long delays.
I contacted Apple, thinking it might be an issue with the recent firmware upgrade to ATV, but that wouldn't explain the slower MBP. I just wonder if anyone might have suggestions...might be able to point me in the right direction to troubleshoot.
    Many thanks,
    Melissa

Given what you say about experiencing slow download times for all your devices I'd be contacting your ISP. It isn't unknown for ISP's to filter traffic at certain times of the day, indeed it seems to be becoming more common with certain ISP's.

  • Has anyone had extremely long download times for music, like an hour for a single song?

Has anyone had extremely slow downloads of songs, like an hour?

    UPDATE
It appears that though the progress bar looks stuck on "Step 1: Gathering info..." that Match is going through my library and adding "Purchased" songs first. I have 2,000+ purchased songs and after enabling Match on my laptop I currently have 1152 songs available to me in the cloud. SO, I am happy to report that it appears to be functioning, just happening way slower than I anticipated. As Michael posted above..patience is definitely a virtue in this case! It's been way over 12 hours, but again, happy to report it is working.

  • Safari 3.1.1 Extremely slow startup times (Suddenly)

Hi I'm running a Macbook with a 2.4 GHz Processor, (Intel Core 2 Duo), 4 Gigs of ram and Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.3.
this mac is about 2 months old and suddenly am having extremely slow startup times with Safari. The rest of the computer is very fast, this problem is only with safari... It used to open with about 2 or 3 bounces on the dock... now suddenly its around 15-20 bounces before it opens. It bounces this many times, and then I receive the beach ball for a few seconds. I am assuming it is probably a build up of some files, or tasks it runs through to open... It is worst when you open it for the first time after powering on the mac, after you open it, and close it it opens up a bit faster.
I have tried the basics, i.e. resetting safari and things like that.
Most of the suggestions for deleting files out of the User>Library> are for older OS's and do not apply to Leopard...
    Any suggestions?

Navigate to this location: Macintosh HD/Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences and delete the following files:
    com.apple.safari.plist
    com.apple.safari.RSS.plist
Do this with Safari NOT running. See if that solves the problem.

  • Why apps cannot be downloaded because of EXTREME SLOW DOWNLOAD SPEEDS?

    I have iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.3
Starting from last months until today, I have a big trouble with my iPad about EXTREMELY SLOW APP DOWNLOAD SPEED, in both downloading new apps and updating the currents apps from store.

    IT IS PAINFUL !
I checked & did the following below, but I couldn't solve this issue. Please HELP !
    - My WIFI internet speed of home network is Great, no problem about that
    - I've already used a "Speed Test app" from iPad and it is great, no problem in the  speed also
    - I've checked the space and more than 30 GB is empty in the device
    - I've completely disabled Genius Apps feature
    - I tried many times hard reset by long pressing power and home buttons together

  • Extremely slow download (8 kbps) and using "show local-host" to troubleshoot

I have a USB device that gets firmware updates from the manufacture, the download of the firmware is very fast at other sites and at home except 1 site.  I found the following difference on the 2 ASAs (one where the download is fast the other where the download is very slow and cannot be completed) using "sh local-host" command. I think the ESP connection is the problem but I am not sure why its there - and I can see the byte count increment very slowly.  What would cause this connection to use ESP?

  • Anyone experiencing extremely slow downloads from Apple?

For the past 48hrs or so I've been unable to stream or download HD Video from iTunes store or iCloud on any of my devices, Apple TV's or Computers.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other HD Streaming services unaffected.  Internet up and running 45Mbps connection, working great. only thing affected is content from Apple, specifically content purchased and on iCloud.  iCloud account fine, Apple ID account fine.  Can access Apple.com, iTunes Store, Apple Store, Communities, and content, however, streaming, downloads extremely slow, almost unresponsive....
Is anyone aware of any slowdown issues, servers down, or other issues affecting access to content?
You know because Apple is always so forthcoming on these issues!
So far Ive found no mention of any issues in any of the communities....
    Thank You.

Apparently Adobe is having server problems. Other users have reported problems today.

I have a problem over here....
i have to load many graphic files for my applications. i have a total of around 20 graphic files with a total of 4200*29400 pixels.
i am using MediaTracker class object and addImage method.
but i find the downloading time is very slow......
is there any other solutions to reduce to download time???

bcoz i have divided the graphics into many smaller scaled graphics...that's why i have to load one by one.....
    any other possible solutions??

  • Extremely slow downloads from cloud

When updating and downloading from adobe cloud through the adobe viewer on iPad, the downloads are extremely slow and unstable, making updates and proofing a nightmare.
All other network funtionality is fine, it's only this proces and it's company wide, whether at home or office.
is this a universal problem? Any fixes?
    thanks!

  • Extremely slow downloads via Itunes 8.2

I've used Itunes on my macs for years, currently Itunes 8.2 on a MacBook Pro. But for the last two months downloads via itunes have become extremely slow, e.g. many hours for a 20mb podcast. Downloading the same podcast directly form a website takes just a minute or two on the same internet connection.
I have re-installed itunes and that did not solve the problem. Any other ideas?
