Intermittant sound on HP Pavilion PC

Can someone please help us?
We have a HP Pavilion PC running Vista, our problem is that when the sound is turned on there is intermittant sound coming from both channels, and you are unable to understand anything coming out of the speakers.  But if you put a headphone jack in, there is only sound coming from the right channel.
I have uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled to hopefully correct the problem, but it continues to stay the same.  We have run out of ideas and hope someone can help.

Hi,
Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59542.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Intermittent Sound Loss (SFX & Audio)

Hi gang, I have an odd problem with intermittent sound loss (button SFX + audio) on my brand new ATV2 (HDMI to HDMI on a 2 year old Phillips 42"). The picture is great, but the audio only works about 50% of the time. (?!) I'm totally stumped. I did some troubleshooting. Restart, Reset, Restore. No dice. I swapped the cable and tried different HDMI ports — to no avail. I also spent an hour on the phone with an Apple tech. We did everything again and we turned off Dolby, etc. No dice. He suggested I bring the device into the Apple store, and they swapped it out for me. But I'm having the same problem with the new device — and AGAIN only 50% of the time. It seems totally arbitrary. Very frustrating. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Did you try restarting your TV, the problem may be there.
(I have a tv that starts to drop audio occasionally, although a restart of the tv will resolve the matter it does return perhaps weeks/months later)

  • Intermittant sound on iPad

Ihaving intermittant sound on iPad. I have done numerous soft &hard resets, checked all settings (nothing to do with side switch) sound present with earphones and works when checking ring tone but when playing music keeps cutting out & slide volume bar disappears also??  It affects the keyboard clicks as well.

Looks like an internal fault with the auto card. I would suggest taking your iPad to a local Apple store for further diagnostics.

  • Intermittent sound problems (circle with slash) since 10.9.1 upgrade.

My 27" iMac (mid-2011, 2.7 i5, 16g RAM) has had intermittent sound problems (circle with slash) since I upgraded to 10.9.1.  I've reset the PRAM, used Disk Utility on the file permissions, tried Audio Midi, and sound prefs steadfastly refuses to use the internal speakers.

Did you install the latest driver set for the device?  there is a new release on motu.com for mavericks.

  • Intermittent sound & phone freezing

Today i have noticed my iphone 4 has intermittent sound. The ringer is on, but when someone calls it doesn't always ring, and has also frozen too. The keyboard clicks don't always work, nor do the text tones.  Vibrate still seems to be working ok.
The only thing I have changed in the last 24 hours is I updated my iPhone 4 with the new iOS 5.0.1 as it asked me to yesterday.
Is anyone else having the same problem or had it before?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Have you run the Apple hardware test? If you have either of the TechTool programs they can do the same testing. Find the original OS X discs that came with the system, and one should say in small print on the label 'AHT Version x.x'. Insert it and reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow to the right, follow directions, and choose the extended test. Does it identify any issues?

Can you explain more on the "clicking" noise you are hearing? If you mute the computer do you still hear it? It is from the speakers or from the inside of the laptop?

  • AirPlay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV intermittent sound drop-off

I can't stream iTunes or Spotify to my Apple TV without getting intermittent sound drop-out (say every 30 seconds) when I use AirPlay mirroring through my Mac. This odd thing is streaming through my iPad or IPhone to Apple TV is perfectly fine; so is using my Mac to stream to my Sonos speakers. I can even stream iTunes pefectly fine through only the Apple TV alone - so it's nothing to do with my broadband connection
I have today performed upgrades to the Apple TV and my Airport Express firmware but the problem persists. Anyone else experiencing this or found a solution?

Hi, same here for me. Using AirPlay for streaming music from my Mac Mini (iTunes latest version) to my ATV2 (software latest version) has intermittent drop-outs (about every 10 to 15 sec for 5 to 10 sec). At the same time streaming to my Airport Express station in the kitchen works fine. Using the VOX player streaming from the Mac to the ATV works fine, only that I can only stream to one destination. Tried streaming from iTunes to ATV only, the problem remains. Streaming video - even HD - works fine. Using the ATV to select music from my Mac's iTunes library works fine, too. Still I want to stream from my iTunes on the Mac to several destiations including the ATV. Seems to me to be a problem of iTunes. I think the effect appeared after an update of iTunes or OSX, because it had worked fine before, already.

  • Intermittent sound using dd live pack, spdif to home theater spdif.

. when using dd li've pack to listen to audio through home theater, connecting spdif out on elite pro module to spdif in, i have only intermittent sound. there is no common timing, just sound on and off. as the sound comes on, on my computer i have the dolby digital li've bitstream out "bug" that comes on in the lower left hand corner of my screen, then goes away when sound off. i am listening in entertainment mode. i don't really know what else to say. does anyone else have this [email protected]

G? A lot of Audigy DDL users have reported 5. signal being lost randomly.
Mine cuts out and Dolby Digital Li've becomes plain PCM (stereo on the receiver). It only does it for a second, then 5. gets restored. Then a few seconds/minutes/hours later it happens again.
Sounds somewhat related to the X-Fi issues.... perhaps is the same thing?

  • Intermittent sound fault with keyboard clicks

    Hi there,
I have recently purchased an iPad2, and there seems to be an intermittent sound fault only involving the keyboard click sounds.
The sound works fine on music and other content and I have tried deselecting and reselecting the keyboard clicks on/off in the settings page, but to no avail.
    Do you have any suggestions?

If it happens intermittently, then I would think that it cannot be an incorrect setting, or having system sounds muted. Do you ever restart your iPad - or reboot it?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Each time i press the power button i just have a blank white screen, and intermittent sounds/tone. No apple logo, or spinning circle.

I used to install the rEFIt to boot with win7. When I deleted win7, I didn't uninstall rEFIt. Nothing wrong with it. One day after I watched movie in full screen,I pressed esc to quit. Then I found the touchpad didn't work. I can't turn off air. I just pressed power button for a little while. It rebooted, then my nightmare just began...
I have tried everything, PRAM, command+R, literally everything. No change.
But when I plug a CD-ROM with USB, I can only here one BONG, just once, then white screen, Like waiting for something...
I took it to a service center in China, they told me the CPU had broken. SInce it's one month out of warranty, they wanted to charge me for like $250....
I really don't think that's CPU's problem. I checked the history, it seems like somebody else also had the problem before.
Can anyone give me some hints??? Thanks!!!!!! Or I have to take it back to America to check....

Impossible, there are zero, as in none, zip, nadda viruses for OS X. If you have viruses on it they are for MS Windows and will not affect OS X. I suspect the hard disk has crashed, if you have backup then it's not a big deal to have it changed, just take it into your local Apple Store or AASP for service. If you have not been backing it up you may be in for a painful lesson on why backup is critical.

  • Intermittent sound on boot with Pavilion dv5

    Windows Vista
    Product number: NM597PA#ABG
Ever since I started connecting my notebook to a second monitor with HDMI I've encountered a problem where it will only boot with audio roughly one in three times. The problem persists even when I revert to the previous setup I had, and when I run the notebook without any peripherals at all. Putting the notebook into sleep mode will also instigate the problem.
    Cheers.

    Hi,
Can you try uninstall the audio driver and then re-install again?

  • Malfunction of media smart and sound on HP Pavilion dv8t entertainment PC

I have an HP pavilion dv8t-1100 entertainment PC  with Windows 7 64 Bit operating system.
I have this peculiar problem which is affecting the efficiency of the PC.
The volume and bass and treble volumes just pops up once in a while intermittently even though no sound media is active. When it does that it turns off blue tooth and wireless automatically on and off.
It also temporarily takes control of the PC and interrupts other applications from running for brief periods .
At first it gave a message that 'internet radio is turned on but not discoverable'  I have owned the PC for about two years now. It is now getting worse.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
Unless you've already done this, try downloading and installing the firmware update for this particular issue from the link below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-96360-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
After the installation has completed, restart the notebook.

  • Intermittent Buzzing with HP Pavilion dv7

Just a couple of months ago I got a new HP Pavilion dv7 laptop with beats audio.  For a while it worked fine, but recently I'm having a problem with the sound.  Whenever I watch videos, listen to music, play games, anything with sound, I get an intermittent buzz that lasts maybe half a second.  The video seems to slow down just for that split second as well.
I don't know if this is relevant, but the sound of the buzz seems to be a little different depending on the sound actually playing.  For example if the music if soft and low-pitched (the music itself, not the speaker settings), then the buzz is also.  If the music is loud and high-pitched, then so is the buzz.  It's as if that split second of audio is repeating like a skipping record.
Usually it happens maybe 1-3 times per hour.  It happens more often (like once every few minutes) if I am charging a device like an iPhone from a USB port.  However, it doesn't seem to happen when running on battery power, only when using the AC Adapter.  I tried a different AC adapter, but it doesn't really help.

Would you please elaborate on the process of "removing HP drivers"? Which drivers? Then do you lose functionality?
I also have had the described problem, intermittent quiet buzzing that goes away when the power cord is unplugged, for a while now, and I have tried everything everyone has posted, except having the motherboard re-soldered, with no success in solving the audio problem. BTW, this would not matter if I weren't a professional musician using the computer for music. But I am willing to trade in my DV7 for another HP computer that doesn't have the problem. Does HP take trade-ins?
Has anyone here had their motherboard re-soldered? Did it work?
Is there any real hope of fixing the problem? I haven't seen one.

  • Sound Issues HP Pavilion dv6-6158nr Entertainment Notebook PC

    Hello,
I have HP Pavilion dv6-6158nr Entertainment Notebook PC with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS. Recently I noticed issues with how my volume control works. I am not sure if it's an application issue (Firefox 9/10) or audio drivers. While watching playing an audio file or watching video my default playback device is set to speaker, but as soon as I plugin my headphones both headphones and speakers will go to mute. Some times disabling and re-enabling the device will solve this issue, and other than that I also have to restart Firefox to get the sound back.
Tried installing all the available updates form windows, also reinstalled/update the sound drivers as n admin with no possible fix. Also as shown in picture below, when I try to make a Google call using Firefox I use built-in mike an headphones. During that time headphones icon will be appeared in the window shown below listed as communication device and disable both audio in/out.
Let me know if any further information is required.
    Thanks.

    First uninstall the audio driver:
Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager. >> Audio, video and game controlar >> right click and uninstall all values under it >> restart >> download and install the following drivers:
    BIOS
    Audio
