Intermittent ActiveSync issues with iPhone4 through TMG

Hi,
I've got a few iPhone 4's which are connecting to Exchange 2007 through TMG 2010 (SSL Certs + AD Creds).
On the face of things, all this works. I can Sync email, get calendar updates etc, but for one or two users (myself included) I keep getting intermittent syncing issues including.
1. Only the headers will download, meaning I can open an email, but will just get the "Loading..." animation until I eventually get the message "This message has not been downloaded from the server."
2. After finally getting up to date with email, the phone will suddenly start syncing from scratch again, going back as far as is configured in the mail settings. eg 1 day, 3 days etc. and will eventually get up to date, working fine for a while but eventually resyncing from scratch again.
3. It seems to be busy syncing when there's nothing to sync until TMG eventually throws a "10053 An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine". Something I'll shortly mention in a TMG forum
4. There are times it claims its checking for mail, but I can see on our Cisco firewall and TMG it hasn't attempted to contact us at all after a few minutes I'll see it make contact and it will sync fine.
Meanwhile, in between these errors, it seems to be absolutely fine... until it isn't.
Any ideas? I've tried wiping the phone, clearing it out from user exchange profiles, etc but it hasn't worked.
Thanks
Paul

Well it really went from bad to worse with regard to the mic. Pretty much stopped working entirely for phonecalls although seemed fine for video, audio recording and skype. Headset made no difference either so I can only assume that it the issue lies between the main mic and the noise cancelling mic (doubt they are used for video, skype etc)
After along conversation with apple they are sending out a new phone with UPS as part of the advanced replacement service although I do have to pay £30 for the privilege, still better than having to wait for repair etc!
Regards

• Exchange 2003 ActiveSync issue with iPhones

Hello,
I am having an issue with an Exchange 2003 server, where a couple of iPhones can suddenly no longer Activesync with it. It seems to be an issue with their specific accounts. I set up an account for myself and was able to connect
and sync with no issue from my Windows 8 phone and also the Remote Connectivity Analyzer.
However, with the iPhone user I tried to run his account through the Analyzer and got a timeout error when it was testing to sync the inbox. I also tried setting up the user's account on my Windows phone and the inbox just showed "syncing,
this could take a while" and just kept doing that.
The mailbox in question is pretty large, the System Manager shows it at 41GB and I think that may be the issue. However, initally the user told me that the phone worked fine until about a month ago. When I first started troubleshooting
the issue, I found that the self signed certificate had expired around the time the phone stopped syncing and generated a new one. But I think the user had tried to wipe the account and re-set it up normally but that wiped any mail that was on the phone
and now it is trying to resync a large amount of data and that is causing the timeouts.
I have also been reading that Microsoft Security Essentials can cause these types of issues and it is installed on the server, but would it cause these issues with only certain accounts or with iPhones but not Windows phones?
Am I on the right track with this? Thanks.

The event viewer shows no ActiveSync errors for the user. I tried to connect to the account from my Windows phone and it set up ok with no errors (the user tells me that the account setup on the phone went ok too, all green checks) but when it was
doing the initial sync, it just seemed to hang with a message saying something like "syncing, this could take a while" or something to that effect.
The Remote Connectivity analyzer came back with a timeout error for the Inbox sync step as well.

• Continuous issues with iphone4 that has been replaced 3 times now!

ok, hello all, I have been experiencing numerous problem with my iphon 4 since I first got one about a year ago
- the top button broke, apple replaced it
- 2 weeks later, the home button broke, apple replaced it again
- a few months later the top button broke again and apple replaced the phone....for a third time about a week ago
- just yesterday the silence mode button broke and itunes hasn't been able to "recognize" the iphone since I got it
I really don't know what to do as I'm fed up with all of these issues
has anyone ever faced such repeated issues with the iphone 4? is there anyway apple with swap the model phone as I really don't want to replace it again since I've had nothing but problems with it
Thank you!

Hello,
Thanks for your response!
I definitely understand and after the second button broke, I thought that maybe I was somehow mistreeating the phone or something like that.
Since, I've done my best to be extremely careful with it (protective case, touching all of the button gently, etc.) I've never dropped it or anything and am very careful when I put it in my bag. If it is a user error, I have no problem with this but I just don't know where it could be coming from...

• Intermittant hearing issues with ifone5

ear piece is unpredictible

I have had big issues with some brands of Ext. drives notably WD.
If it were me, I would send it back and do this.
I decided to get a hard drive enclosure after my last Ext. WesternDigital FW drive went south on me. There was no way to replace the drive without ruining the whole unit. I chose the Mercury Elite Pro...highly recommended in my Mac magazines.
The ones from OWC are easy to put drives in, even for a beginner. Easy to understand instructions and they back up their merchandise 100%, no questions asked. And they have the Mac Friendly Oxford chipset. I brought that up cause that may be part of your issue. Not Mac friendly and i've never seen anyone recommend Buffalo here.
Now if a drive goes bad, I can put a new one in the enclosure in minutes (or put a bigger one in). Mine works great! DALE

• Accessory may not be supported error and charging issues with iphone4

Hello,
From past 2 weeks my Iphone4 (say A) keeps throwing error message "Accessory may not be supported" and doesn't charge the iphone after couple of minutes of charging. This happens when device is connected (for charging) to power outlet or to computer (USB port). I tried multiple original iphone/apple cables. The same cable allows me to copy pictures from this device/Iphone4 when connected to computer via same USB cable, but the device/iphone4 does not charge. The same cable and charger charges my other Iphone4 (say B) perfectly fine.
I am really frustrated as to why this is happening.
Searching on internet, it seems lot of people are facing this problem with their iphones and ipad devices and refer this issue as a software bug, which I also seem to think. How can it be the hardware issue when same charging port and same cables allows you to copy your pics etc. from your iphone device to your laptop but does not allow you to charge the same device? Same charging cable works with my other iphone4 and i tried multiple cables so I dont think it's a cable issue.
Any help is appreciated. I was expecting apple products to be better in quality but lately I have seen this issues quite often.
-RP

Make sure you are using an Apple approved charger and cable. The best would be the charger and cable that came with the iPhone in the original box.

we are using essbase studio to drill through to the source table in Oracle. In drill through definition the query is like , select * from source where (Project IN ($$PROJECTS-VALUE$$)). Project column is located in source table and PROJECTS-VALUES are located in Essbase under project dimension and we will select the values in smart view. we are using smart view to check drill through reports. In smart view, If i select one member at gen-2 level which contains 1450 level-0 members,It is saying as error in executing the report in line 1972. Is there any limitation with IN condition , such that oracle takes only limited values like count of 999.we are facing issue only at gen-2 of project and it is working good from gen-3.
Please let me know is there any kind of certain limitation.

It is possible you are overloading the parser. If the projects table/view is a recursive join, when Studio creates the $$Project-value$$ is actaully returns all the level zero members under the member selected(at least in 11.1.2.X. If the list is huge, it might have problems. I would open an SR to see if there is a limit. It might be number of characters or values

• Activesync issues with large contact notes field

I'm running into an issue where changes made at the end of a large note in a contact do not get synced, while changes at the beginning do.
Can anyone else confirm? Is this an activesync or apple implementation issue?
I ran into something similar on the blackberry side - would only evaluate first 1k chars. Fixed with a software update.

Please let me know whether you experience the following issue, and submit feedback (or if you are an Apple Developer, a bug report). This issue is not related to synchronization.
Title/Subject:
Contacts 7.1 replaces one contact's Notes with another contact's Notes
Summary:
This issue's significance is severe because data is permanently lost: After searching for contacts and editing one of the contact's Notes, all found contacts' Notes are replaced with the changed contact's Notes.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch the Contacts 7.1 app in OSX 10.8.2.
2. Search for a string that appears in several contacts' Notes field.
3. Click on one of the contacts in the search results.
4. Ensure that "Edit Card" mode is NOT enabled.
5. Alter the found string in the contact's Notes field.
6. Click on a different contact in the search results list.
Expected Results:
The change is saved and the changed contact disappears from the search results list.
Actual Results:
All found contacts disappear from the search results list, and all found contacts' Notes are replaced with the changed contact's Notes.
Regression:
This issue did not exist in OSX 10.7's Address Book app. I have not had the opportunity to test earlier releases of OSX 10.8's Contacts app.
Notes:
Example:
Suppose a search for "P1" finds three contacts:
Name: Alan | Note: Ask permission. P1
Name: Betsy | Note: Backup files. P1
Name: Charles | Note: Call. P1
While "Edit Card" mode is NOT enabled, in Alan's note, change "P1" to "P2". Then click on Betsy in the search results list. Betsy and Charles' Notes are erroneously and permanently replaced with Alan's Note:
Name: Alan | Note: Ask permission. P2
Name: Betsy | Note: Ask permission. P2
Name: Charles | Note: Ask permission. P2

• Issues with iPhone4 not broadcasting SSiD

As my topic says, let me lay this out.
Iphone4 fully updated.
Ipad2 fully updated.
On AT&T.
My problem is, my phone won't broadcast it's SSiD when I turn on broadcasting./hotspot, forcing me to use Bluetooth.
That's ok, right? Well, as most know, Bluetooth EATS the battery on my iPhone. Also, it's not as quick at wifi.
So I power cycle the phone, turn broadcast on and off, turn wifi on and off. Both devices I do this to, and still, my iPad won't find my iPhone's wifi broadcast.
I did setup an appointment with the apple store, and am hoping a genius can either fix it or explain it to me.
No, I'm not letting the phone go right to sleep, no, I don't exit the broadcast screen right away either.
What am I missing? Do I need to start carrying a phone charger with me everywhere, and just rely on Bluetooth? Sounds like a band aide to me...

I too am experiencing this on my iPhone 4 after upgrading to 4.3.3. I am fairly convinced that it is a software issue. The last update seems jumpy. There appear to be more pauses and stuttering with screen changes too. Sometime the button operates perfectely (even with repeated light touches). Other times, it doesn't matter how hard I press; it takes several presses. I notice it more when i am using a battery case or connected to an AT&T MicroCell. I am having a hard time pinpointing problematic apps, although i suspect that mail with my work Exchange account may be a culprit. I suggest posting your issues on Apple's iPhone feedback page, www.apple.com/feedback/iPhone.html, to ensure that they are looking into this problem. If it is a hardware issue, I'll be pretty upset as I received my iPhone 4 on day 1 of availability and it is out of warranty. Hoping for a fix with an update. Please post on the feedback page.

• Very generic issue with starting through nodemananger

When I start my new server its starts up well through cmd, but when starting through nodemanager its gives IOException
The nodemanger is installed as windows services as Administrator.
The nodemanger is reachable
SSL is disabled.
With identical configuration, the other older server seems to be working fine.

• Intermittent Security Issues with 11.1.5

Hello, I am new to the forum (read a lot, first time posting question).
We have recently implemented obiee 11.1.5. First 2 days no real issues but starting today we have experienced users that have incorrect privileges/permission. It was apparent with 2-3 users then after an hour or so they were working and 2-3 other user had the problem. I was able to log on with user account to confirm (ie bypassing proxy to confirm). It looks like the permissions are getting crossed where the user has access to folders they should not have and no access to subject areas – but proper security is still in place for access to analysis and no access to the admin page.
Here is the setup (basically the base setup from upgrading the RPD and Cat from 10g):
1.Weblogic security – nothing setup just the default authenticators, users etc.
2.EPM Security – have several ROLES (created during upgrade)
3.RPD – have same set of ROLES as in EPM (left over from upgrade).
4.Presentation – Have the same set of web cat groups (left over from upgrade) – each one mapped to the same ‘role’ from EPM
5.Authentication – Have init block that reads a table that populates the ROLE variable once the user logs in.
6.Cache at the BI server is off, cache at the security tables in the RPD is off
Basically the process works well. Init block kicks off, populates the ROLE (can see them in the ‘My Account’ – as roles, based on icon). The role being mapped to the web cat group – all folder permissions and privileges are based on the web cat group.
Since it was working and then does not, I am leaning towards something getting corrupt during the mapping of the roles to the web cat groups. But to redo all the security to roles only would take a lot of time.
Any help or idea to solve would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, we that is intact .. the problem is like this..
User A has access to role R1 --> access to see dashboard D1
User B has access to role R2 --> access to see dashboard D2
In the middle of the day, suddenly User A sees Dashboard D2 !
The catalog privileges are correctly assigned for role R1 to see dashboard D1 , and role R2 to see dashboard D2 .

• Weird ActiveSync issue with Exchange 2007-iPhone 3Gs

I have a relatively new iPhone 3Gs. I am using Exchange 2007 (SP1). I am also using a product called Add2Exchange ("A2E"), which runs on the Exchange server and synchronizes two calendars. Seems to mostly work OK.
Here's the behavior: I create a new all-day event in UserA's calendar. It gets copied by A2E to UserB's calendar. They both get sync'd via ActiveSync to both iPhones. All correct so far. Outlook 2007 also agrees.
UserA then edits the event to give it a time, as example use 8-9am Weds. It then syncs to UserA's iPhone correctly. A2E migrates it to UserB, and UserB sees it correctly in Outlook 2007. HOWEVER, in UserB's iPhone it appears as all day event that has moved to Thurs (the next day). If I edit the title of the event, it migrates to all copies (but the incorrect all-day time in UserB's iPhone stays).
I have also turned OFF Calendar sync in iPhoneB, told it to delete all events, then reenabled it and had it resync. The event still comes back as the all-day event on the incorrect day.
Since Outlook reflects the correct thing I strongly suspect that Exchange database is correct and that iPhone for some reason isn't re-updating the date/time. Any insights appreciated.
Thanks.
-Jon C.

• ActiveSync issues with one user

Hi guys,
a user that had a BlackBerry in the past and no issues has now switched to iphone and activesync.
After configuring the device and opening email it shows all his folders but no emails.
When we do this on an Android we see all folders and get email BUT we can't send anything.
We tried factroy resets and even another iphone so far. Always the same.
As no other user has this issues I expect the mailbox to be corrupt in some way.
A local mailbox move to another DB had no positive effect.
Any suggestions rather than recreating his mailbox?
Thanks!

Hi,
Please run the following command and then check if you can get ActiveSync mailbox log.
Set-CASMailbox -identity username -ActiveSyncDebugLogging:$true
To repair your mailbox, you can use the New-MailboxRepairRequest cmdlet. You can look at the article below for more details about this command.

• IMac (2007) intermittent power issues

Hi,
I have a 2007 iMac. I am getting intermittent power issues with it.
One day it wont power up at all...and might not power up for a number of weeks. And just when I have given up on it, it will power up and work for a wee while without any issues (including being shutdown nightly). It'll work for a while and then it'll stop working and again it may take a couple of weeks before it'll start working again.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the issue?
any help/advise greatly appreciated.

Hi IsMiseAodh - did you ever determine what the cause of intermittent no response to power was? I have a iMac with a similar problem. Thanks!
