Intermittent audio using AirPort wirelessly

I have the AirPort Express set to join my existing wirless network and have audio playing but it is interrupted frequently as if it were waiting for data transmission then resumes. Like a buffering problem but I can't find anywhere to increase a buffer on any of the connected equipment. Itunes shows music stops then restarts in the now playing progress chart. Music plays fine thru my laptop also connected wirelessly. Tried connecting using seperate wireless bridge then connected to AirPort via ethernet with same result. Again that connection to laptop works fine. Itunes is 7.0.0.7 and firmware version is 6.3.

Thanks LaPastenague for the immediate response.
I do not have a wired connection to the TC. Unfortunately TC is kept at a place from where a wired connection is not possible to check.
I dont have a modem. The WAN Cable is directly connected to the TC. Its the only router I have.
I haven't yet contacted Apple Support yet, but will contact them during the weekend. I am not having an issue with the Wireless. It shows as connected & am able to access the TC Hard Disk without any issues. Its only the Internet Connection which drops even though the Light on the TC is green.
Am not around the TC at the moment, so will be able to check for the ipv6 once i am back home in a few hrs time.
Thank You

I cannot connect to my wireless internet connection using my ibook laptop. Using airport, I keep getting the message "host cannot find the PPPoE" or something like that. Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi, Bob. Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Which exact iBook model is it? ("iBook" covers a lot of different Mac models, each with different capabilities.)
You can choose from this list:

Which version of the operating system is it running now?
What kind of optical drive does it have? (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, Combo, or SuperDrive?)

  • No audio video audio using airport express?

does anyone know why you cant listen to music video audio thru airport express. music works fine...not audio.

    Chris--
I'm sure it's the same reason you can't listen to audio through Airtunes and on your computer's speakers at the same time: there's a significant delay as iTunes processes the audio, sends it over the network, and the Airport Express decodes it and sends it to your stereo. The video on your computer would be out of sync with the audio from the speakers.

  • Connection iTouch to Remote Audio using Airport

I have audio equipment connected to my Airport WiFi and play music on my computer using the Remote Speakers feature in iTunes. Is it possible to connect my iTouch via WiFi in a similar fashion?

Apple's free app, Remote, will allow you to control iTunes remotely through your wireless network. You cannot, however, stream music to your iPod via your network.

  • Movies audio using airport express via i-tunes

    Hi guys
Have no trouble at all listening to music through air tunes using separate speakers, however when i go to watch a movie or watch a podcast using i-tunes no sound can be heard from the external speakers connected via my airport express? Is this me or is it just the way it is?
    Cheers
    Nick

ok, after some reseaerch it seams that there is a lag between video and audio unless you use the supplied airfoil video player. You can drag video files in to airfoil video but not movies purchased from i-tunes.....happy to be proven wrong on that one mind!
Anyway, a nice little app IMO!

  • Playing streaming audio using Airport

I have a iMac4 (10.4.11) with an AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x89). I also have an Airport "box", plugged in to the wall, and connected to the back of my stereo. iTunes plays without a hitch through the stereo, but baseball season is coming and I am trying to figure out how to stream audio (not coming through iTunes) via Airport to my stereo. Hope that's not too convoluted!
Can this be done? Must I resort to fuzzy AM signals?

This can be done with a low cost utility called Airfoil - see:

  • How to use Airport Extreme to create a second wireless network with different IP addresses behind an existing modem/router?

    Hi,
I have an existing modem/router from my ISP that does DHCP and NAT with base IP 192.168.1.1 distributed in the wireless network. I use this wireless network for our private devices. I could turn off the DHCP server in this first router, but there isn't a separate setting to turn off NAT.
I want to connect my Airport Extreme (4th gen) to this existing router to create a separate wireless network for visiting guests, where IP addresses of 10.0.0.0 etc. are used. So I do not want to use the Airport Extreme in bridge mode, as I would like to keep the devices on the first network 'invisible' for those on the second network. (P.S. when connected in bridge mode, the Airport works well and can distribute a network with a different name from the first. It's just that I would feel more comfortable about our privacy if the Airport were to distribute a different IP range. False security, maybe?)
I've tried doing this by 'Sharing a public IP address' in Airport Utility's Internet tab, leaving TCP/IP's setting to 'via DHCP', setting DHCP addresses to start with 10.0.0.2 up to 200 with all else blank, and not using a standard host nor NAT-PMP in the NAT tab.
When I do this the Airport complains of a 'double NAT issue'. Internet connectivity seems to be OK, but when switching between the two networks on my Mac I get complaints about my IP address being in use by another device intermittently.
Can anyone help in how to get the 'double NAT issue' resolved?
    Thanks!

So if someone is connected to the modem/router network they will be able to see the HD I will have put in to the AirPort Extreme?
As I said above.....since the modem/router and AirPort are bridged, devices on the modem/router wireless will be able to "see" devices on the AirPort wireless, and vice versa.....
If they can see the HD connected to the AirPort Extreme, will they be able to access it
Yes, unless you plan to password protect the drive connected to the AirPort Extreme.
or will they still need the password needed to get onto the AirPort Extreme network?
The modem/router and AirPort Extreme are bridged. They are on the same network. All devices are on the same network when the modem/router and AirPort are bridged. Not sure how else that I can say this.
Also, because it is bridged, I shouldn't have any problems accessing the HD I will have connected to the AirPort Extreme from an external location?
Accessing devices from a remote location is never easy....and a topic for a different post/discussion. If you have a "static" Internet IP address from your provider, and have all the details on how to forward ports on your modem/router, you are off to a good start.
Apparently there is some addressing issues because devices can be seen as "Double IP" because the modem/router would have allocated IP's as well as the AirPort allocating IP's thus making connections slower until resolved
When you "bridge", all IP addresses are issued by one device. There will be no conflicts on the network, since they are bridged.
Once again, in very simple terms, you have two doors (access points) that open into the same room (network).  One "door" is the modem/router and the other "door" is the AirPort Extreme. They are on the same network....("room") because they are bridged.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4

      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2

Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • Intermittent Audio Thru Wireless Speakers

I am running a Mac Mini and all of the audio goes to wireless speakers. Wireless audio streaming device is a USB connection - one into back of Mac Mini and one into the back of the wireless speaker.
Audio works perfectly but after a while just cuts out. Solve the problem by adjusting the volume up (on the remote control or on computer) and after a few seconds the audio is there again. To be lost a few minutes later. Sometimes it fixes itself without touching any volume control. This occurs whether I am running music through iTunes or watching TV through EyeTV.
Had issue even before new upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Wondering if this is a MacMini issue or a wireless speaker issue?
    Thanks. Miles

When I first set up the AudioEngine5 speakers I bought an Airport Express and used Airfoil. As you mentioned there is a very noticeable lag between the audio and video (a few seconds) on any video application whether it be TV through your PC or a DVD through your PC (which I use both).
The solution was to get rid of the Airport Express and Airfoil and order Audioengine's W1 (AW1) Premium Wireless Audio Adapter - see their website. One adapter plugs into the PC's USB slot and the other plugs into the speaker. Similar to a Bluetooth wireless connection - same principle. The range is pretty good and there is no lag between the video and audio signals whether you are watching a DVD or TV on your PC.
I am very happy with the overall Audioengine5 set-up. Value for money the speakers are very reasonable for what you get. The adapters up the price a bit but to get rid of amplifiers and wires, and have the PC as your hub for everything this is a great solution.

I have just acquired an iMac desktop (about 4 years old). I want to connect to my Apple airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network and don't want to jeopardize what already works well. I am not all that computer literate.

How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it.
Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.

  • How do I use airport express to extend my wireless network?

How vcan I extend the range of my wireless network using Airport Express?

It appears that you may have "join a wireless network" and "extend a wireless network" mixed up a bit.
The Express can "join" virtually any wireless network produced by any manufacturer's router if it is provided with the correct settings:
    name of the wireless network
    the correct wireless security settings
    and correct password.
"Join" is normally used for AirTunes or to connect a USB printer to the Express for remote printing.
But, the Express does not provide any additional wirless coverage when it "joins" another wireless network.
Apple's "Extend a wireless network" feature, which was introduced about 5 years ago, allows the Express to connect to another Apple "n" wireless router and then "repeat" or "extend" the wireless signal....providing more wireless coverage in the area where the Express is located.
This is a proprietary setting. Apple says it will not work with devices from other manufacturers. To our knowledge, this is correct.
Prior to 2007, Apple used a setting called WDS to allow the Express to be configured to provide more wireless coverage. Attempts were made by a number of manufacturers to standardize the WDS settings, but things were never finalized.
The result is that Apple's older "b/g" routers were sometimes compatible with WDS settings from another manufacturer. There were a handful of products....5 or 6, as I recall....that were said to work. Some did, some didn't. Linksys had a couple of models, Netgear had one, SMC another, etc.  Extremely limited.
Since WDS was never adopted as an industry standard, manufacturers developed their own WDS settings. Compatibility was extemely limited and unreliable. That continues to this day with WDS.
Bottom line....It is always best to stick with the same manufacturer throughout your network as far as routing is concerned.
If you have an newer "n" Apple router like an AirPort Extreme, the Express can extend the wireless as can along Extreme. If your Extreme is dual band, and you want to extend both bands, then you need another Extreme.
Another responder suggested to someone that they could connect the AirPort Express to a router via Ethernet.  What exactly would that achieve?
That is a completely different subject since this discussion is about extending a wireless network using wireless only.

  • Can I set up a wireless printer as a network printer and not use Airport?

I have a HP Photosmart Plus wireless printer set up in my network for use by several iPods, iPads, and iPhones.   I have an iMac running 10.6.8 that I want to set it up on, but to use it as a regular network printer, not using Airport.  Is this possible?  I haven't been able to hit on the right combination of settings.  I have a Samsung laser printer that works this way, and an Epson that is attached to an Airport Express, but all I get on the HP is garbage.  It will work when I set it up using the HP install disk, but I have to use Airport and I don't always get a good signal where the iMac is located.  I would prefer to use  the wired connection to my router and access the HP's IP address, like a wired network printer.     Any suggestions?

I'm using a Canon printer here which is networked via my Airport Express.  My printer cannot be Wi fi enabled simultaneousely with an ethernet cable connection. It is either or.  I realise that this doesn't fully answer your question, but I just wanted to give you a clue.  You'd need to consult your owners manual, or HP to get a definitive answer.
If you want to use the HP printer printer only with the wired ethernet connection to your router, that should be no problem as long as it is ethernet capable.
After setting it up for wired ethernet capability, you will need through the sequence of powering your router down, and resetting you Lan network so the router and printer can pick up their respective IP assignments.

  • Can I use airport express to create a local wireless network that my apple tv can connect to for AirPlay/mirroring in student halls/dorm without Internet connection

    Hi I was wondering :
Would I be able to make a local wireless network using airport express that my apple tv can connect to which in turn is connected to a projector with hdmi in so that I can mirror/AirPlay from iPhone pad and mac

will the Airport Express allow you to log onto a hotel wireless network, and broadcast a secure wireless network in your room for your wireless devices, like the Ipad, Iphone, etc.?
The bottom line with a single AirPort Express is no.
The AirPort Express can only "extend" a wireless network when the network is being provided by another Apple router.
As you might imagine, it is extremely unlikely that that the hotel network....which no doubt uses professional wireless access points provided by a manufacturer of commercial systems.....would be compatible with an AirPort Express.
In many years of travel domestically and internationally, I cannot recall a time when a single AirPort Express would "extend" the signal provided by a hotel's wireless network.
However, if you had two AirPort Express devices handy, you might be able to configure one to "join" the hotel network and provide an Ethernet signal to the second AirPort Express, which would be configured to "create" your own "private"  wireless network.
