Intermittent Buzzing Noise

I'm getting a loud, buzzing noise from my G4 DP500 Powermac. The noise sounds like a bad fan bearing and is accompanied by moderate vibration which feels like it's coming from the area of the power supply at the top of the machine. This only occurs when I am using Pro Tools, working on a large session with a lot of plugins enabled, and only after the machine has been in use for a long period. The noise and vibration start very suddenly, and disappear when I restart the machine. Is there a fan somewhere near the top of the machine that would only activate after a long period of intensive use?

It really feels like the vibration
and buzz are coming for the power supply unit. Is
that a replaceable or serviceable part?
I've never run across a power supply that coudn't be replaced Prices will vary depending on what machine you have.
Another thought...
Apple went though a time where they used no screws during assembly - everything was snap-together.
If your machine uses screws, might also want to check and make sure they are all tight.
If, when you touch the power supply itself, the noise stops, mght want to try using some sort of wedge/filler where the power supply contacts the case proper. (I used a folded piece of paper to stop one vibration related noise)

  • Audio problem; buzzing noise (HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4011nr)

Hi, I recently bought an HP Spectre XT TouchSmart 15-4011nr Ultrabook. I'm getting this annoying buzzing noise while listening to music or streaming movies. The store change my laptop for another one and after a few minutes listening I got the same behaviour on the new (same model) laptop. Is this a model problem? Is there anyone with the same problem?

Solution found for me.  First, a little background.   I have a HP Spectre XT Touchsmart 15-4010NR and also have the same annoying  buzzing noise.  Usually lasts less than a second and is intermittent.  Counted it 13 times in four minutes of a YouTube audio file.  Time between the buzzes varies significantly ranging from a second or two to over a minute.  Once during the four minutes the audio cut out completely for less than a second.  My solution, I unplugged the AC adapter.  No more problem whatsoever as long as I'm on the battery.  Tried this multiple times, plugging the AC back in for a few minutes, then the same on battery.  The result, the buzzing occurs only when the AC is plugged in, and does not occur at all when on battery power.  The AC power adapter provides power and charges the battery normally.  Not sure what to conclude from this.  I suppose the AC power adapter or cord could have an issue.  Not going to go out and buy another one to test whether this is the case.  It's an inconvenience, but I'll just unplug the AC power when listening to audio.  If I listened to long recordings or movies this could become a real issue.  I'd be curious to know if it's a hardware problem, or something I could adjust in the settings on the computer, or something else like a grounding issue.   Interested if others can confirm my findings and expand on them.  out

  • Some kind of buzz/noise coming out of the desktop speakers when I connect my iPhone 6 plus to my desktop speakers.  Help?

I have the iPhone 6 plus with the current update 8.02.  As soon as I connect my phone to my desktop speaker jack, I can hear an intermittent, low-level buzz/noise coming out of the speakers.  I've never experienced this noise with my iPhone 4S or my laptop connected.
Is this maybe a grounding issue with the phone? Could mine be defective?
I just tried a friend's 6 plus and his doesn't make the same noise.
    Thanks for your feedback.

I have the iphone 6 plus and when I play a ringtone or a video or music and stop it, the speaker of my phone make a little sound like shhhhhh haha, why? and still there for a few seconds and sometimes minutes

  • Intermittent white noise occurring on USB speakers

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this but I thought it would be a good start point. Apologies if you feel it is the incorrect forum.
All of a sudden my lacie USB speakers are creating intermittent white noise hiss when listening to music or viewing video with audio. This has only occurred today. The speakers are connected through a belkin USB hb which has a few other devices connected.
Just wondering if anyone has had any similar issue with any other speakers or general audio problems which may be similar?
    Many thanks.
    Anthony

Well little did I know that I was in the process of hearing my Belkin F5U307 7 port USB hub screaming its last few cries for help as it has now died. A three year long useful life expended.
I'm unsure what the issue was here. I know that when I had been switching on the Mac that I had occasionally had a loud buzzing from the speakers during startup. A quick disconnect and reconnect sorted it. I had upgraded to the current Mac Pro a few months ago. I reckon its a power supply issue but can't be sure.
So I am now in need of a new 7 port usb hub.

  • I hear an intermittent buzz on my iMac

I've had this computer for about a year (amybe a little more than a year), and about two weeks ago started hearing a strange, intermittent buzz. I haven't detected a pattern yet, but I'd say it happens maybe every half hour or so. It almost sounds like a surge - it is a short, 1 second buzz. Thoughts?

Use Apple Hardware Test. It will exercise all of your iMac's moving parts except for its optical drive, if it has one. Report if AHT concludes its tests with anything other than "no trouble found".
Determine if you can correlate the noise to one of the tests it performs.

  • Tecra R940-S9421 Repeating Beep sounds like a buzzing noise

I have an intermittent issue where the Tecra R940-S9421 will begin a buzzing noise which comes thru the speakers.
I thought I had a hardware issue at first but when I muted the sound the buzzing dissapated.
So I googled the issue and found a fix whereby I must go to Device Manager / View Hidden Devices / go to Non plug and Play Items and uninstall the BEEP entry ---- this has worked for now just hoping it will not come back .....
Is this a known problem with Tecra ? Anyone else with the issue that knows a more permanent fix ?

Look at my other posts I've made about this issue. I am having the same problems. I wish apple would say whether this is a fault or if it is supposed to be this way.

  • Ultrabook/Notebook freezing and making loud buzzing noise

I just received via UPS a HP Pavilion 11 x2 PC 11-h010nr for my daughter for Christmas.  I decided to let her open it as her one before Christmas present and I am glad I did.  She went into xbox music to listen to her new beats audio sound.  On about the 3rd song the loudest annoying buzzing noise came out of the screen portion and the screen was frozen (she had it detached from the keyboard).  She hit the power button and the noise stopped.  She got back into xbox music and about the 2nd song this time it did it again.  She started to cry and very upset because she thought it was broke and would take a very long time for us to get it fixed and she gets a replacement.  Needless to say her Christmas has just turned into a really bad Christmas.  Also today I brought the notebook with me to work to see if the problem continues and as I was putting the song on Pause/Play the noise occured, the screen did not freeze but the noise did occur.

Ever since I got my Iphone 4s, I have noticed that when I film a video and play it back, it has this buzzing noise and when im in the middle of filming a video and I focus on something, you can hear a click where I have focused when I play it back, is this the microphone? can I fix it myself? or do i have to take my iPhone in to be properly fixed? Help Me please!!

    See this veeeeeeeeeery long thread.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3404857
It's an issue with hundreds of phones.  Some claim it's software related, some hardware, some say it's a mixture of both.
Some people have had temporary success with quitting the Phone.app / restoring as a new phone / restoring from an iCloud backup / disabling Siri / toggling speakerphone on & off...
Unfortunately all of the above only been temporary, with the problem recurring again after a few calls, or a few days etc.
So far the only solution that seems permanent has been to replace the phone.  But even so, it's the luck of the draw to recieve a functional phone, and not another faulty one.
I'm completely annoyed as there is no Apple Store near me...... and Apple haven't even acknowledged the issue, despite the above thread being 34 pages long, as of writing.

  • New imac and a buzzing noise - is it normal because it's irritating?

    Hello peeps,
I got my new imac delivered today. Most things are fab, but I'm a bit disappointed with a buzzing noise that only happens when I reduce the brightness of the screen using the slider in the display icon under system preferences. If I keep it at optimum brightness the buzzing doesn't happen. Is there any way of darkening the screen another way?
I'm finding it big and too bright initially as I'm not used to a 24" screen. Is this something that happens or should I send it back?
Anyone care to try theirs and see for me? I would really appreciate this as it's really bothering me and I don't want to complain if I don't have to.

Try using: Shades from Charcoal Design be sure to download the "Intel" version. Shades gives you brightness control all the way down to a black screen, great for working in a dimmly lit room.

It's only my opinion, but I find that text images stay sharper at the lower levels using Shades!

  • Broken power board ZIF and buzzing noise

    Hey all,
This is my first post on the forum! Thanks so much for providing such a welcoming atmosphere.
I have a GE70 20E laptop that I disassembled recently to do some repairs on, and when I was putting it back together I snapped the little black plastic thing that holds the power board connector in place.
I looked up some guides for the problem and eventually took the ZIF, replaced it as best I could, and held it down with electrical tape. The computer booted and everything was mostly fine. The power and fan indicators weren't lighting up, but I had a functional laptop. Eventually I started hearing little popping sounds coming from that area of the computer that I attributed to a speaker problem because it mostly happened when the volume was high. About a day ago the popping graduated to full-blown buzzing, which scared me.
I went in and reapplied the electrical tape to the ZIF and power board connector and it fixed the power and fan indicators, but the popping remains. In light of that, three questions.
    1) Is the laptop safe to use?
    2) Is there a more permanent solution I should be trying?
    3) Failing that, does anyone have any tips on how to better the electrical tape fix?
Thanks so much for your help!

It's definitely not the speakers! I was using Skype and the buzzing got worse when I starting using the onboard webcam - it's definitely the power board connector. Last night I did some poking around and got the buzzing noise reduced, but I just did it by scotch taping this
over the connector. With that in place the sound works fine, the indicators are working, and the only sign that there's any problem at all is a crackle on start-up that goes away after a minute. Assuming it's stable and it stays functional, should I just be happy with that? I'm worried that taking it to a repair place would cost me a bunch of money I don't have for a fix that's basically no better than what I already did. I'm mostly just worried that the problem will come back now that I've got it working - those connectors seem really precarious.

  • Horrible buzzing noise whilst on charge

Hi all...not sure if anyone has had the same problem but when my Mac is plugged into charge and I have audio or video playing I have this awful buzzing noise in the back ground but when unplugged the audio is perfect - maybe there is some kind of electrical interference happening but it is getting a bit serious as I am a musician and I need total clarity with my recordings. Has anyone had this before? Please help?
(Was thinking maybe a shielding issue or something)
    Thanks in advance!

Are you using a third party power supply? I've heard some of these cause hum / buzzing. If you look at the comments here for example:

Take it in and have it assessed. They do not have to know about the bag incident unless the explicitly ask for the specific details (like when you are being questioned by a TSA screener, LEO, etc.). As far as you know, the noise started up and it is getting warm. With luck it is just an unbalanced fan that needs replacement.

  • Satellite A30: HDD started to make a buzzing noise

    Hello,
The hard drive has started to make a buzzing noise on my A30, I guess this is not good news, i.e. it is Kaput?
I downloaded HDDLife which tells me the hard drive is all ok, but I don't feel very confident.
I have backed up everything, and am thinking about a replacement hard drive.
    So I have two Q's:
Should I get a new hard drive?
& if so, then would one of these be compatible?

    Hi
    These are not great news.
3 month ago my HDD went dead. It was a simply head crash.
A day before it happened I have noticed strange sound coming from notebook inside.
But I was not sure if its a HDD sound.
So day after I wanted to start the notebook but the BIOS has not recognized the HDD.
So I have replaced a hdd and all was ok.
So take care. Maybe the same will happen to you.
I dont know if the 80GB will work but as far as I can remember some A30 was delivered with a 40GB HDD.
SO maybe you will be able to use a 60GB but Im not sure about the 80GB. You have to test it, you know
PS. The notebook should support the enhanced IDE (ATA-5) interface

    hi andrewjamaica,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
The buzzing noise that you heard is due to the system being halted (always happens when your playing a music or a video when the PC hangs). As for the error 0x80041003, Microsoft published an article regarding this issue and it appears that it was caused by updating your windows machine.
You can find the Microsoft Fix It here:
