Intermittent can not access web sites.

I have a HughsNet satelight dish/ HughsNet modem. I have a
WRT 160N v3 rounter that routes two computers (mine and my wife's) that are
connected to the router with Cat 5 cables. Each computer has a printer attached to
the local computer only (no sharing). We have had several power outages.
We have been having increasing problems with connecting to websites and
connecting to AOL. We have these problems with both AOL and Google Chrome.
The error messages are: "The web address could not be found", and onece I got:
"More than one device is performing address translation (NAT)". Also, some
downloads fail.
What I have already tried: I opened a utility (trouble shooter?) where you type in the
name of the website and it shows the numerical translation...it was working without
error.
These problems occur on both computers and it does not matter if only one is being used and
the other is sleeping/shut off.
I flushed the DNS cache on both PCs:
(Open up a command prompt (Start > Run > cmd.exe > OK).
Type in the command ipconfig /flushdns)
I made sure that my router's firmware was the latetest available.
I changed the router to distribute Goggle's DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4.) instead of the default
I.S.P's.
I opened my Local Host file and checked to make sure that there was not any ip
addresses listed that were not commented out (#).
However, when I went to my wife's comptuer to do the same thing, C:\Windows
\System32\dirivers\etc, there was NO host fire or any other file in the etc folder. Do
not know why, I never deleted it and my wife would not know how to delete it.
When I typed the the ip address for the router on my wifes compter (mine was o.k.),
instead of a blank user name and "admin" as the password, both fields were
blank...keeping me from access it. I tried entering admin as the password and
leaving the username blank, but it told me I had not entered the correct password.
I have disabled my Firewall, no change.
I have run Malwarebytes, and have reset (little red button on the back), the router all
to no avail.
What to do? Any help, ideas please.
Note: I am a rank amature. If you give me an abstract of a possible solution (like: set
your router to bridge mode, I will not be able to do it. Please give any possible
solutions in the "just like I am six years old", format: First type in XXXX then select
XXX, then go to XXXXX etc. An abstract answer will only make sense to other
experts (which I am not), and frustrate me.
Thanks for any help.

In this example, they show you how to change the local IP address to 192.168.2.1. But use 192.168.4.1 to be safe. Don't worry that it says DSL. It's the same principal.

  • How can i access web sites configured for internet explorer?

Not sure if you're using a different browser than Safari. If not try Firefox or Chrome.

  • Safari Mac can't access web site that Windows can

None of my Macs can access the site http://cards.123greetings.com . I get Can't Find Server messages in both Safari and Firefox. (Clearing caches doesn't help)
cards.123greetings.com is part of a large free card site that did a major upgrade in October. It still renders correctly on a PC running Windows XP Home which runs on the same network as the Macs, so it's not an isp problem.
Since both Macs (G4 iBook running 10.3, MacBook running 10.4) have the same Can't Find Server problem with both Safari and Firefox, it appears that some setting in the Macs themselves is causing this.
Any help or insight would really be appreciated - Thanks!

A big Thank You to Mulder for letting me know that you can access the site (with Mac Safari I presume) - That's good news.
The bad news: I still can't access the site.
The problem affects two separate computers and four browers. Taking your advice, I repaired permissions and logged in as a new account on both machines. Unfortunately that didn't work.
I next tried accessing the site on the MacBook through Parallels running Windows XP Home. The site came up fine using Internet Explorer.
Then I realized that Parallels operates with a different ip address. So I went back on the Mac using a proxy, and the site came right up.
It now seems that the ip addresses of both computers are being blocked at some level. I want to thank Mulder for replying and virtually ruling out that it might be a Safari issue. I'm now "off topic" and will no longer post in this section. But I'm also over my head... If anyone has advice about how to proceed now, I'd truly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

  • Can not access web wifi simble on but can not connect the the internet

wifi on but can not access internet

I COULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM!!!  :    CHANGE YOUR ISP
I it is obvious that we are talking about different issues, but all arise from the same origin. I am a surgeon and fortunately one of my patients is executive manager of one of biggest ISP companies from which I have bought my Internet service for home and my clinic.
One day I told him the problem and he promised to check it for me. A few days later he called me and discussed the exact problem (unfortunately as I am not I.T professional, I couldn’t understand it well, I can just remember he was talking about MULTIPLEXING incompatibility between Mac security settings and that specific ISP multiplexing settings, He also said they had similar problems with some Linux users. I can remember he relate the problem to cheap ISP hardware, which leads to security issues which  are ignored by Windows Systems but leading to connection blockade in Mac Browsers. That’s why if you PING yahoo.com, you will see everything is OK but your browsers are not working)
In fact this is a hardware issue which is related to ISP (Internet Service Provider) security and not your Mac.
The day after, I took my MacBook to some ISP offices and asked them to let me connect to their line just for a test. “ Surprisingly I found out without changing my MacBook’s settings it works well with some ISPs and not with others!! “
I have two ADSL lines: one at home and one in my clinic. First I changed my home ISP and everything is well at home from the day I did the change. But before changing my clinic’s ISP it worked at home and not at the clinic. Later I changed my clinic’s ISP and afterward never I had any problem.  This proves ( as that manager said also) this problem is related to ISP and not Mac itself and that’s why Apple could not have resolved the problem yet: different ISPs have different issues.
Here I can make some suggestions:
1- First, take your MacBook into different ISP offices and find the one which works well (before making the contract and paying money to the ISP, restart the Mac or send it into sleep mode repeatedly to make sure the connection never drops with restart or sleeps)
2- Change your modem:  Modems as TP-LINK, D-LINK, are not well compatible with Mac.  Apple modems or Linksys are perhaps the best choices (this is not main cause of internet drop, but can affect the performance)
3- Make sure your neighbor’s Wi-Fi is not exactly on the same channel as you are using (I use iStumbler for finding my neighbor’s channels)
4- Find best DNS: ask your ISP to provide you most compatible DNS’s for you. Perhaps most known DNSs are 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.4.It helps you to browse the Internet more efficiently
Some people in other forums suggested that upgrading to Mountain Lion has helped them. But It didn't work for my clinic's line. Just changing the ISP at clinic resolved my problem
BETWEEN THESE 4 SUGGESTIONS, THE FIRST ONE IS THE MAIN SOLUTION AND NO 2-4 CAN HELP THE PERFORMANCE.
Move on!!!   Change your ISP and let me know if it works!!!!

  • Latest version of Firefox (version 32) can't access web sites. Using Windows 8.1 Compatibility problems?

Firefox automatically updates to the latest version which is now version 32. I get the following error message: "Firefox can't find the server at us.data.toolbar.yahoo.com" Preceded by "Sever Not Found" This happens on any web site I try to access. Reloading version 31 Firefox works fine, but then it will update itself again.
Windows 8.1 is my operating system.

The latest Release is Firefox '''31.0''' as the only way you would get updated to the current Beta build which is Firefox 32.0'''b2''' (b2 = Beta 2 as there can be say six to twelve Betas) build is if you were on the Beta channel due to having installed a Beta build and continued using it since. If the Firefox 31.0 you installed is updating to 32.0b2 then the 31.0 you installed was a Beta build (make sure the file name did not have say 31.0'''b'''# as there were nine Betas) and not the Firefox '''31.0''' Release say from mozilla.org or https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
The typical reason for a new version (on Windows) not being able to connect after a new major version Firefox update or install is usually due to a software Firewall blocking the new .exe yet it may stll have the previous version allowed.

  • Can't access web site

I am trying to access a web site that I normally have no problems accessing. Now Safari tells me:
    Safari can't find the server
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.xxxx.edu/” because Safari can’t find the server “www.xxxx.edu”.
We are using an apple time capsule and no device on the wireless network can open the above web site. We asked a friend to log on and they had no problem accessing the web site.

    Hi,
Check Network pane in System Preferences. Select the Proxies tab.
If there are any boxes selected on the left, deselect then quit Safari. (Command + Q)
You can also access that information from System Preferences - Advanced. Click the *Change Settings* button.
    Relaunch Safari.

You have to use some port higher then 1024. Ports below 1024 are reserved for root user only.

  • Can't access Web Site, super slowly and time out!

    Hi all,
    I am using Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V, HP DL360 G6 Server
The Master OS have a NIC1 to VLAN1 Switch (Also in the Cisco SG300 Switch)
Plus other NIC2 connect to Cisco SG300 28 Switch (Running in L3 Mode), this Cisco then connect  to a SonicWALL NSA 2400.
I build some VLAN31 on SonicWALL NSA 2400, and add this to the Cisco SG300 as Truck Port connect Both...
Other Port on the SG300 are untouch, so mean default running mode is Truck mode, and one of it port connect to the NIC2 to the Server ...
Ok, if Hyper-V VM, not enable VLAN in the Hyper-V Management in 2012 R2, it can take the DHCP from the SonicWALL NSA 2400 no problems, can see other LAN (VLAN1) machine well both direction, and go to Internet too.
But, if I setting the VLAN31 on Hyper Manager to some VM, it can take the DHCP and take the IP from SonicWALL for this VALN31, include DNS, GW etc...
But ... it just can ping internet, for example, ping www.yahoo.com it ok, but open IE, enter www.yahoo.com will super super slowly and time out, if running CentOS 6.5 Linux, enter yum update, it total not work, time out, 0.2kb/s etc. But it can ping to www.yahoo.com
    no problems...
And If Windows run routert www.yahoo.com, over 10s to see next hub ...
I am double checked SonicWALL NSA2400 Firewall Policy is allow all VLAN and LAN to WAN, and VLAN TO VLAN too..
What is wrong on the Hyper-V VLAN? Do I am setting wrong of my switch port mode (Access/Trunking)?
I am now out of direction what is go on to troubleshooting this.
    Thank you.

  • Can't Access One Site - Common Threads

I have recently been hit by the unable to access one site problem.
Having read through all the threads, it seems many people are identifying it as a possible DNS issue; however, it seems that almost all of the issues are with people who are hosting their own web servers off-site.
I was hoping this thread could gather information from people who are having/had this issue?
    1) Was the inaccessible site self-hosted?
    2) Did you have any server changes, etc?
    3) Have you solved the issues, how?
Hopefully this gets to the bottom of things.

There is one site that I am aware of that I can not access using my Airport. I have narrowed down the issue to the Airport so far. When I bypass the Airport, the web site connects. Both my Macbook and two PC's can not access this site if I connect via the Airport. I have reset, powered down, booted the modem, worked with Norton and Comcast: still no fix.
I tried changing settings in the utility tool that were suggested on the boards here and still no correction. If anyone has an idea, please post here. Thanks. If I find a correction, I will post here.

Firstly, DO NOT post imie numbers on a user to user forum - it is not safe to do so and your are NOT talking directly to Apple here.
Secondly, you need to go back to Apple in the country in which you bought the phone and get help with it there. Go back to the Apple store in the country in which you bought the phone.  The warranty on the iPhone is not international, so is only valid for the country in which you bought it.
