Intermittent connection to server

When sending emails I sometimes get a message "Email Error.  Your message  was unable to be sent because the connection to your email server was interuppted.  please open your email client and re-send your message from the sent folder".  I have checked all connections, ru

Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried moving the static IP outside the range, namely 192.168.1.99, since I'm sticking with the default DHCP range which starts at 100.  I tried it with reserving the DHCP address (even though it's out of the range) as well as not reserving it (i.e. not explicitly setting the address anywhere on the router, and letting the printer server tell the router its static IP).
Too early to tell if it's better -- seems to be -- but still intermittent.  If I leave my printout in the print queue (on XP SP3), it will ultimately print -- never right away, and up to a day later, many hours.
Any other ideas?  (BTW, I had this all working with a Belkin wireless router just using DHCP until it died a couple weeks ago.)
Thanks!

    Hi Jason
I was getting the same behavior after Apple support had me delete some plist files to get Airplay going. I was also getting the following error:
the error occurred while processing a command of type 'writesettings' in the plug-in 'server vpn'
I went into ~/Library/Preferences/ and /Library/Preferences/ and deleted every plist contating the word server. I had to re-set up my server (meaning walk through some intial steps) but all of my settings were still there after that and everything started working again.
Just a thought, obviously try at your own risk but it worked for me.

  • Intermittently lose connection to server

Hello-- I am having a problem where I connect my eMac to my iMac as well as to an external Lacie ethernet drive & everything is fine until the computer has to be restarted or shut down. Sometimes when the computer restarts everything is connected properly - I have it set in system preferences to automatically connect to the wireless network as well as to the iMac & the external drive upon startup. However, other times it does not connect & when I try to connect manually by going to Network, the iMac server isn't there. Then I just have to keep restarting the computer until it either connects automatically likes it's supposed to or I am able to see the iMac in the Network. Both the iMac & the eMac are running 10.3.9. I am always able to connect to the external drive by going Connect to Server then I have the connection saved in my favorites. I have not figured out how to connect to the iMac or the user account on the iMac this way, I only know how to do it by going to the Network pane. Any ideas anyone has about how I can fix this connection issue are much appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried looking at the server logs, particularly the 'System' & 'Open Directory' log sets?
    Anything seen in there?
Also logs on the client machines using the Console app. It's a bit tedious going though logs but they can be very illuminating.

My iPad got disabled and once I waited the 15 minutes I logged in, but from then on I could not connect to server dispite having 2-3 bars of wifi signal.  The same thing happened to my iphone5 at the same time although this had not been touched by my 3yr olds.  My wifi is very intermittent and often it goes from 3g to GPRS on my iphone. I have reset network settings, turned devices off by home button and off button, removed sim card in phone, etc. I'm stuck.

    Hi 30daysnow,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing wireless connectivity issues on your iPad and iPhone.

  • Earthlink Servers -- "can't connect to server"

Recently (the last couple of weeks) Safari have been displaying the message "can't connect to server" when trying to access certain pages.
    Here are the particulars:
This only happens with Safari, not with any other browser (netscape, firefox, explorer) on my Mac or my PC.
The problem is intermittent -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Both times when I've called apple tech support (and they tried to reproduce the problem, it was working)
The problem only exists with Earthlink's homepages ...any page that has the url "home.earthlink.net/~whatever. So this rules out any particular page or site ...the problems (for me) seems confined to Earthlink homepage servers.
This happens whether logged on via dial-up, or using DSL ethernet (these two are via my isp, earthlink) ...or when using my neighbor's wireless connection via Comcast. So the problem is not unique to the ISP.
Here's the puzzling part. When the problem does exist, I can access the page by typing www. in from of the home.earthlink.... and the page loads. When the problem does not exits and the www. is placed in front of the url, Safari displays the "can't connect to server" message (???).
Also, during these intermittent periods when it doesn't work, any other pages I have that call upon graphics with a SRC url of home.earthlink.... the graphics don't display.
Lastly, my tracking program has shown (1) a significant drop in the pages accessed with Safari, (2) the pages that are accessed with Safari are occasionally accessed with the www.home.earthlink.... url, so this is obviously happening to other safari users.
For my part, I've done all the usual stuff, checked here for similar reports, reset Safari and trashed all the prefs. No changes.
Apple tech seems to think this is an Earthlink Server problem. Earthlink tech acknowledges no such problem and feels it's Safari's problem. ...and I'm caught in the middle Hrmpf!!!
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    I'm using OS 10.3.9 with Safari 1.3.2
"home.earthlink.net/~skinesscentuals" -- one of the affected sites
    iBook G4 1.33 w/Mac OS X (10.3.9) w/768 MB
    Dell Pent III w/WinXP (SP2) w384 MB

Let's try it the other way around. Open Network Preferences and open the lock.
Set up a new location, I call it "verizon" because the DNS nums will be theirs, available to all. Enter as 2 separate lines
    4.2.2.2
    4.2.2.1
Proxies have been a problem so make sure you have none unless you really need them.
    Apply now. Good luck.
Do a forum search on "open dns" for 2 more servers to get their nums. I can't see them as that is what I am currently running and don't want to mess with it.

  • Apple TV repeatedly giving message, "Unable to connect to server, please try again."

I'm having a horrible time with the Apple TV I purchased 3 days ago.  I'm using it wirelessly, the signal is strong, I've already power cycled the modem and router, but it continues to give the message, "Apple TV unable to connect to server..."  It works intermittently.  All the other devices in my home are working properly, so I know it's not the internet itself.  The ONLY thing that works is restarting the device, but even that only works briefly and before long the connection fails.  Does anyone have a genuine solution other than having me restart the device?

I ended up getting a new VMS box as the rep thought that the HDD was going.  I am still having latency issues with the remotes and the TV displays.  Also there still are times when the signal freezes for a second along with the sound but resumes.  The Techs have replaced my splitter and these problems continue.

  • Intermittent Error SQL Server Error 67 and 17

Hi!  We are running Windows SQL Server 2012 Standard on Windows Server 2012.  There is a SQL Database with an Access Front End which we migrated from older versions of Access and SQL.
The Access front end communicates with the database most of the time without a problem.  However, sometimes Access just stops  responding and then the user gets the following error:
    Connection failed:
    SQLState: '01000'
    SQL Server Error: 67
    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
    Connection Failed:
    SQLState: '08001'
    SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access is denied.
The person who maintains the Access and the SQL Databases provided the following summary:
The spontaneous issue affects everyone connected to the SQL Server at the same time, and manifests itself in a slow or non-existent connection.  It resolves itself in a few minutes to a few hours.  The ODBC trace did not yield any useful information
about the problem.  We tested with up to 5 simultaneous users with no problem.  When we observed the issue of Friday, only four users were in the database, and closing these connections did not immediately resolve the issue.  There appeared
to be no problems with the network for file system access to the server during the down time.
Based on this information, it definitely is not an issue with MS Access, the ODBC configuration, or the database structure.  It appears to be an intermittent connectivity issue with SQL Server itself, perhaps due to configuration problems, licensing
(as you mentioned), conflicts with other software/processes, or due to some other SQL Server process.  Unfortunately, this is outside of my expertise and we do not have dedicated SQL Server or IT resources.
I had another IT Person look at the issue, he found the following:
Sally's PC  was getting SQL error.<o:p></o:p>
Logged into her PC to look at it (logged in as Sally and as cleAdmin)<o:p></o:p>
Looked at server name, want to verify that in the Control Panel > Adminstratrative Tools > ODBC Connections<o:p></o:p>
There was no odbc connections under User DSN,  System DSN or Fie DSN<o:p></o:p>
    Created new System DSN connection<o:p></o:p>
    Specified server:  CLE-VM-SQL-FILE\CLESQLSERVER<o:p></o:p>
    The rest were default values<o:p></o:p>
Clicked test and it was successful<o:p></o:p>
Unfortunately, the problem started again soon after these changes were made.
It was suggested there could be a hardware issue, so we have replaced the switch and made sure the drivers on the Network Adapters are current.  Plus
we have never seen any indication of a loss of network connectivity while testing using a PING Test.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, how did you solve it?

  • TS1398 every so often i lose wi fi internet, even though laptops in house still get wi fi signal. phone message says cannot connect to server.

lose wi fi signal at home, message says cannot connect with server. can access wi fi with laptops
    but not with iphone5

Your problem is completely different from the subject of this thread, which is about intermittent connections to ONE WiFi network, not all networks. As you have an iPhone 5 just take it to an Apple store and they will replace it under warranty if they can't resolve the problem.

Hi there, I am trying to connect to my server at work from home using a vpn connection. It connects fine and the time ticks along, but when i click go - connect to server, it comes up with connection failed. Please help!

... when i click go - connect to server, it comes up with connection failed.
If you're trying to connect to a Bonjour server on the remote network, that won't work over a layer 3 VPN. Use something like Hamachi or one of the SSH-tunnelling Bonjour proxy apps for that.

  • I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year.  I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".

I have had my IPAD2 for quite a while but haven't activated my cellular data for about a year.  I am now trying to activate and when I go to cellular data, turn it on and try to tap view account i just get a message that says "connection to server lost".  I could swear the last time I used cellular data you would see the signal in the upper left corner and I only see "no service" there, I am in a location where I know I should have service.  Is there something I should do to my IPAD?  I tried resetting, I tried clearing cookies and history in Safari (after reading a post n these discussions).  I don't know what to do next. My IOS version is 6.1.3.  I did go into Network from the general tab and I see it says "SIM not provisioned".    HELP and Thank you in advance.

    Hello Theresa818,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
    Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
    Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Macbook can no longer "connect to server"

I have an iMac connected to the new Airport Extreme using ethernet (and wireless).
I have a macbook connecting to the new Airport Extreme using wireless.
The macbook cannot connect to the imac using 'connect to server' WHY? And the imac's itunes library no longer shows up on the macbooks itunes as a shared library? Why?
All of this used to work before my upgrade to the new Airport Extreme. Can anybody help....

OK.... the is really baffling me...
    Here's my setup:
Airport Extreme - constant PPPoe connection to ISP - running 80211n only
iMac conneting to Airport Extreme via ethernet
Macbook connecting to Airport Extreme via 80211n
Airport Express connected to Extreme via ethernet
Macbook Pro and Powerbook and 2nd Express (relay) connecting to Express via 80211g
iMac also connects to Airport Express via 80211g (in addition to direct ethernet connection)
    So.... here's the problems....
Macbook and iMac cannot speak to each other. Macbook can see iMac's itunes but gets an error when tyring to connect (unspecified error - make sure port 3689 is open)
Cannot do a 'connect to server' either way between macbook and iMac.
iMac can see and connect to both Powerbook and Macbook Pro. It can also see itunes library on both of thses and vice versa.

  • PI 7.11: Cannot connect to server using message server:...

    Hello Guys,
we make the Application Management for a Customer PI System.
    Scenario:
    - the SAP Gui Connection to the ABAP Stack is routed via SAPRouter and Works fine.
SAP Gui -> our SAP Router -> VPN Box from Customer -> Firewall Customer -> ABAP Stack PI System
    - WebAccess its working fine, the Customer use Webdispatcher on every PI Server...
Browser -> VPN Box from Customer -> Firewall Customer -> Java Stack (Port: 5xx00 btw. 81xx (Webdispatcher))
    Problem:
Our Problem ist, we can not proceed the Integration Builder or the ESB, the Java Web Start works fine and open the Logon Screen Correctly -> but i fill the Logon Screen with my User name and Password and press Logon come the follwing Error:
"Cannot connect to server using message server: ms://<hostname>.<domain>:8134/P4"

The Customer says, the Firewall is open with the IP Adresses and P4 Port but i dont think so...
Can everybody help me, or have tips for me! I have checked a lot of OSS Messages (PI High Availabilty etc... its all correct on the System)
    Sorry for my bad English
    Best Regards,
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
did you check if the browser is using a proxy? (In this case your scenario unfortunately won't work).
P4-port should generally be routed via a proxy (described in the help.sap.com), but within the PI-Tools(JNLP) the proxy-usage is not implemented.  There is even a SAP-note that describes how to check the JavaWebStart-Proxyconfiguration, but this won't help either.
If there is a proxy defined in the browser everything is working fine till you pass the logon-screen but even with the correct "javaws"-settings you won't be able to go on.
(This problem is pretty bad if you do have developers and the SAP-servers seperated because of security issues. I'm hoping that this malfunction will be solved with upcoming patches.)
Solution: Establish a connection without any proxy in between.
E.g.: a terminal server in the same network
It would be helpful to find more people with the same problem to force a fix from SAP for that.
If anyone else is having problems with this, please add a comment to this thread.
    Best regards
    Christian
