Intermittent error .3259 freezes downloads

I use the iTunes store strictly for video, and every couple of days a download is interrupted by error .3259 "network connection timed out." I may download other files before and after, I may be downloading other files simultaneously, but one will get this error. Afterward, Checking for Purchases will only advance the download to where it stopped before; it remains frozen.
The only 'solution' I've found is to periodically erase the .tmp folder in iTunes/Downloads, then start iTunes and Check for Purchases again. If I do this a few times each day, then eventually the download completes. The problem doesn't make sense, none of the routine troubleshooting has taken care of it, and aside from turning me on to the .tmp fix, Apple has been unable to help.

I agree. Big problem with 'this picture'...I contacted itunes support and they told me to contact my isp. Well, I did and after going through a couple of things, my isp said nothing is wrong with the connection, etc. And that I need to get back with itunes. I've done everything EVERYONE has told me and NOTHING has worked. I too have several purchases that I've paid for and can't download. I'm at the point where I'm going to go back to itunes and get a refund. It's a shame that this has not been resolved by now. In the meantime, I've gone to other sights to just get music downloaded. Itunes has so much more though, I wish they'd get involved and HELP!!!

  • Error 3259 while downloading Podcasts

I had the dreaded error 3259 show up on two of my computers one running vista and windows 7. I am running the latest version of I-Tunes.
I noticed that others were having the same trouble. I tried everything that was suggested to correct the problem, but they didn't work.
For some reason I_Tunes can't make a connection to update podcasts. The only way to get around the problem is to uninstall I-Tunes 11
and reinstall version 10. There is one little trick though. Go to  http://www.pcworld.com/article/2019315/how-to-go-back-to-itunes-10-part-2.html
and watch the video very carefully. I think apple has a bug with the latest version of I-Tunes that they need to fix. Too many people are having problems with error 3259 in the Community.

Agree it is a timeout error but I'd like to suggest a different solution related to the timeout setting in Internet Explorer and a slow or intermittent internet connection or a busy server holding the podcast. While it may be aggravated by various anti-virus software programs, believe the root of the problem is the timeout setting that was changed to 30 seconds in Internet Explorer 7. The timout setting had been 5 minutes in all Internet Explorer versions since ver 4.0. See Microsoft Support KB item KB181050 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181050/en-us. Believe it provides a better and more encompassing solution for computers running Microsoft XP and Vista. Cheers.

  • Error 3259 when downloading large podcasts

When I download podcasts that are larger than around 200MB I often get an error 3259. iTunes starts downloading and after downloading 100 MB or so I get this error. When I retry often enough the download sometimes goes through.
Does any anybody else see this problem? I am using a Macbook Pro with the latest Yosemite build and the latest iTunes version.
Small files < 100MB download without problems.
I have seen some information about this error but it seems mostly related to firewall problems. My firewall is turned off.

Do not confuse -3259 with +3259
iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 > Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) - includes list of iTunes error codes
    "Error 3000" through "3999"
Alerts with codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try removing the proxy settings, or using a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

  • Error 3259 when downloading OS version 3.0 on the iPhone

    Hi,
I'm getting error 3259 when I'm downloading version OS version 3.0 on the iPhone. It stops at 230MB out of 230.1 MB
I've reinstalled iTunes, I've disabled the antivirus and Windows firewall with no results. And there is no problem with my internet connection. (I've got OS Windows XP, SP 2, 32 bit on my laptop)
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this issue?
    Thank you

Try actually removing your antivirus/antispware software (and make sure it is all of them) and try again.

  • Error 3259 video download

Ive purchased a video series and am trying to download. The download is frequently interrupted with the message that the network connection timed out. The error number is 3259. I can keep re-starting the download, but it continues to "time-out."
I've searched the internet, I've searched the forums...and no one seems to know what's causing this or how to fix it. Apparently, it's an error that many others are getting.
Is there anyone who knows what this is, why it's happening, and how to fix it? I can't believe that Apple doesn't know about it.
I'm using the latest version of iTunes, and Vista Home Premium.
    HELP!

Look under the Store menu in iTunes for the "Check for purchases" command and run that. You may find the tracks there to be downloaded.
If not, contact the iTunes Store using the form at the bottom of the Download FAQ web page and explain the problem to them.
    Good luck.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.
    Regards.

  • Error 3259 when downloading OS 3.0

I have tried to download OS 3.0 4 times now and every time I get the 3259 error, I have followed Apples advice of disabling my firewall and antivirus software but this has had no effect. I have no problem with downloading music. Please help, thankyou.

Exact same issue. I'm trying for the 5th time on my XP machine (firewall faithfully disabled, even though all the other aspects of the iTunes and App stores work just fine with it on) while I download updates to my MacBook to see if I can make it work over there.
Does iTunes save this file anywhere? The worst part about trying this multiple times is that even on my cable connection, a ~260 MB file takes some time, and I'd love to try to use the file that I've downloaded 4 times already. Are they cached? Have I lost a gig of HD space downloading this file over and over?
So far I'm very unhappy with my $10 purchase (which by the way, had no issues finding my bank and taking the funds), and will be recommending against updating iPod/iPhone to others until Apple finds a way to fix this on Windows.
Edit: Glad to hear you fixed it Jeremy, but my only firewall is the Windows one, and the system helpfully reminds me that it's currently disabled. I'm also using NOD32, so I'll disable that and give it a go.

  • Error -3259 while downloading OS 4 update for iPod touch

I am trying to update my iPod touch 3G OS from version 3.1.3 to 4.0. I am using the latest version of iTunes(9.2.1.5) for doing it. When I download the update, it gets downloaded fully (366.4 MB/366.4 MB) but in the last moment, it stops downloading and reports a error message saying that the connection is lost. I tried doing it many times but still I get the same error. However, I am able to download all the other apps from iTunes store without any difficulty.
I tried restarting the computer, adding exceptions to windows firewall and everything that is given in this link related to err -3259 http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2799 but none of these seem to help.
Can someone help me figure out what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

  • Error 3259 when downloading iOS 6 in itunes

I also can't OTA download, it also gives me an error. My internet is working, ive turned off antivirus and firewalls, flushed my dns, changed my dns as was suggested on a few posts, reinstalled itunes, updated windows, rebooted the phone, router and computer at least 10 times
Any ideas what to try next? I have a sony vaio laptop with windows 7, and the 4s iphone. My internet is a verizon 4g mifi if that matters. I've downloaded all the other updates for my phone and ipad just fine until today. Nothing has been changed until I started troubleshooting this morning.
    Thanks so much!

Well I haven't gotten ios 6 on anything yet. We have two iphone 4s's and an ipad. Everything has always updated just fine before this update came out. My problem is when I try to download the actual update, it says the network timed out and to check my connection, but my internet is working fine. When I try OTA on the phone itself it trys for a while and then says update failed.

  • Error 3259 when downloading iPhone os 5

The download to iTunes in Windows 7 goes well untill the very end when this timed out error appears.
    Any suggestions?

I am having an identical error message on HP laptop running Vista (my girlfriends lappy and iphone 4, im a mac user:))
a google search seems to point to a network issue with security, such as firewall settings, etc etc, but we never had this problem before - for example when updating to iOS4.01 - and nothing has changed since then in terms of settings. I will check these settings at the earliest oportunity, but if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, i would be very grateful to hear them...

  • Error -3259 When Downloading 1.1.2

So.. I've been waiting forever for 1.1.2.. and I still can't get the update. everytime it says the Connection timed out.. I don't want to restore the ipod because theres over 1000 songs on it that aren't on my computer, and no way to get them on to it reasonably.. If anyone has any suggestions, or even better an answer to why this is happening.. please let me know.
    thanks.

Honestly, if you have no choice but to restore, I'd restore to it's factory settings, yes you will have to lose the 1000 songs, and that some aren't in the computer! But did you make a back up of it?
I'm not sure but you can check Engadget.com and do a manual update. Just download the 1.1.2 from that site and when you open itunes, plug your ipod touch in, and when the summury pane opens, hold the shift key (for windows), or the option key (Mac) and click on the Check for update, from there you can select the 1.1.2 update that you downloaded manually. If that does not work, then the only option is restoring.

  • Downloading message error 3259

While I update my usual podcasts the download is at a snails pace and ends up stopping with a message error 3259. What is 3259? Everything else on my pc runs just fine the only exception being updating my podcasts. Along with the question of what is error code 3259 how might I resolve the problem? Thanks for any help someone might offer.

    Mike,

p.s. I'm not sure if this fix works with Vista, but I'd be interested to find out (if you decide to try it).

  • How can I download iphone software 5 when I keep getting this error message: There was a problem downloading the s/w for the iphone ...The network connection timed out. It's error 3259

I keep getting an error message saying my network connection has timed out when I try to download the iphone 5 software to my iphone 4 while it's connected to my laptop. Then it says make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. The download gets all the way to the end (takes about an hour mind you), and keeps timing out.  It's error 3259.  FYI, I have the latest version of iTunes.

Security software on your computer/router is the usual cause of this. Turn off/disable or uninstall all anti-virus software & firewalls. Try again.

When I look in the downloads section, it's error 3259. I tried removing my firewalls and everything, and the support articles at apple don't help. Please help me!
