Intermittent freezes increase in frequency- hamstrung!

Help!
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2163130&tstart=0
Is there something that I can do besides take it back to the Genius Bar, where they tell me that Apple Hardware Test error codes mean nothing to them????

DaddyPaycheck,
2Gb of RAM, which did check okay with Rember. Thanks!
Turned out to be the hard drive (see first post for link to original thread).

  • Lately my computer has been intermittently freezing

My Computer; a 10.7.5 Lion, 15 inch MacBook Pro, has been intermittently freezing. Its screen freezes and it becomes unresponsive, and occasionally goes black.
    - Usually if i close its screen and leave it for a few minutes it un-stick's, but as the frequency of these freezes goes up and down i fear a potential more permanent crash.
    - Usually before the freeze the sound mutes but is still registered as operational, but occasionally if music is playing it will continue to do so after the freeze.
. I am aware the the issue is most likely in the hardware, but as i have no convenient Mac repair shop's in my region, i was hoping that it might be a software related issue, anyone have advice/experience with this before?

  • Increase counter frequency performance

    Hello,
I want to increase the frequency performance for my period counter. I'm using a USB-6210 board and I have the vi that is attached - period measurement.
The problem is that I want to measure the period for a 8MHz signal (I know that is a lot, I would be happy even with 4MHz). The source freq for the counter is 80Hz. If the frequency is high, the accuracy is not very critical for me.
    1. I get most of the time the error: "Buffer overwritten". I've seen that I can get rid of it if I decrease the frequency, but I don't want to do that . I think that another solution would be to increase the number of points that are read. I noticed that the maximum buffer size is around 9000 points (I've read it with DAQmxRead Property Node).
    2. Another fact that I've noticed is that in the While loop where I'm doing the Data Reading I should have no other operations or delay. Is this true, or just a coincidence?
    3. There is a strange behavior: if I start the acquisition and I have at the input high frequency, I get the error (Buffer overwritten) almost instant. If I start acquisition at low freq I can increase it even at high freq.
    4. There is another strange behavior: if the input frequency is high the frequency and the measured period increase and decrease togheter. I think that this is caused by alias. Where can I find some more information about the board limits?
If you can give me some other advice/hints/links/pdfs I would be very thanksful.
Maybe there are some small mistakes in the VI. I made it only to get a feeling of what I'm doing. I didn't chek it with the hardware.

    Paul

    Paul,
I  have added some comments to your answer.

    Jochen,
thanks for this information. This was what I was looking for some while.
I still have a question related to this topic: I've read that the maximum size of FIFO is 1024 samples. What does it mean?
[JK:] The FIFO is the hardware buffer on the board. In general the PCI-bus or the USB should have enough bandwidth to transfer the data as fast as they are acquired by the device, but in fact there are sometimes some latencies that require some local memory on the board. That's what is called FIFO in this context.
This FIFO is the same with the: Available Samples Pro Channel from Read Property node?
[JK:]  No. This value refers to the buffer in the PC's memory that is allocated for the acquisition operation.
I've noticed that when the value for this property is passing 9000 I get the error with Overwritten Buffer. If it is like this why do I reach more than 9000 samples pro channel? Please take a look at the attachement (test1.png - screenshoot with the values / speed_test_x - the VI that I used for this measurement).
[JK:] The buffer size is not limited to 9000 values. NI-DAQmx allocates memory automatically by default. If you like you can increase the buffer size manually.
Which is the relation between maximum numbers of sample that can be read with the Counter 1D Read NSamples? In my VI there are N=250 samples. Can I increase it in order to avoid the error? If yes, which should be the maximum limit, 1024 ?
[JK:] You can increase the number of values to read up to the size of the buffer (not of the FIFO). A reasonable value is up to 50% of the buffer size, but this is not a strict rule. Anything between 10% and 90% could make sense, depending on the timing requirements of your application.

PS: I've hope that I translated the LabView terms in the right way. I have my LabView in german (but I don't know german, so it is a nightmare for me )

  • MacPro3,1/10.8.2 intermittent freezes multiple times a day

For the last two weeks my MacPro 3,1 has been experiencing three to five intermittent freezes per day. The last couple of days I have experienced nearly one an hour.
I have not been able to peg it to any specific system update, application or hardware issue. There are no kernel panics in relation to this issue. This MacPro originally started with a fresh install of 10.6.x, and has been a stable system through all OS updates, up to and including 10.8.2.
The freezes have occurred with various programs running: (only) Finder, various elements of CS6, iTunes, Mail, Terminal, Activity Monitor, etc. iTunes will continue to play music. Activity Monitor will update statistics in graphs for a limited time, while the process monitor responds for a longer time. After a freeze I have mouse control and can click between on-screen windows and applications. The menu is non-responsive. I will occasionally get the beach ball of death. The only recovery is a hard power down and reboot.
In attempting to diagnose the problem, I have experienced similar freezes with a fresh install of 10.8.x with no 3rd-party software on a temporary partition. This led me to believe I had a hardware problem. I pulled and reseated all RAM, the four hard drives and SSD, the video cards. I ran SoftRAID's non-destructive verify on all four of the Samsung HDs, which then predicted a potential problem based on one of the drive's SMART data. I then backed up the data located on the RAID and did a three-pass certify-level test on the suspect HD with SoftRAID, which cleared the drive of errors.
Any ideas are greatly welcome. I have included the system information and one system log from this evening while attempting to copy files from an external drive to the RAID.
    Thanks much!
    Tom

Ah, the "20 Questions" - mention m4 and would have said to check you have the latest firmware. Common enough that after way too long lengthy threads to get to the bottom.
Even Zero all does not rule out bad sectors all the time, but it does insure the headers are good when you format a drive or setup an array. I thought the latest SoftRAID 4.x scanned in the background during idle time AND it reports disk I/O retries (bad is a bad work, 'weak sectors' is probably more accurate: is 5 retries bad or is 10?). Is not a 100% black/white issue.
Firmware is hardware and heck, OWCs own SSD controller is throwing out a bunch of corruption issues too.
iTunes use to be good at detecting weak/bad RAM. AHT isn't. Memtest may not (especially with ECC) and DIMMs also have firmware, SPD code and variations.
SSDs though with the constant improvements and change have been popular issue. In May-June a bug in the latest SandForce controller firmware that took a long while to get to the bottom.
Odd that Crucial doesn't say more or the comments section on Newegg and Amazon don't have more?

  • Intermittent freezes upon cold boot

    Greetings gurus,
I've been experiencing intermittent freezes on cold boot since a few weeks. I did not have them on 10.5.4. I've only had 4 freezes and according to the CrashReporter log all are identical, as far as I can tell. I have not installed any new hardware and I have only one external thing connected and that's a Sennheiser USB headset. I'm unable to tell if all leave identical messages in other logs however.
The *CrashReporter log* for the four occasions says that the process which broke is *coreservicesd [43]*. On each occasion, it is said that "Thread 0" crashed. This is how the beginning of that log reads (from the crash earlier today):
    *Process: coreservicesd [43]*
    *Path: /System/Library/CoreServices/coreservicesd*
    *Identifier: coreservicesd*
    *Version: ??? (???)*
    *Code Type: X86 (Native)*
    *Parent Process: launchd [1]*
    *Date/Time: 2009-01-19 20:33:26.618 +0100*
    *OS Version: Mac OS X 10.5.5 (9F33)*
    *Report Version: 6*
    *Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)*
    *Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000000*
    *Crashed Thread: 0*
    The symptoms are:
+ *Menu bar* is invisible (can make out language flag, airport and bluetooth icons and bottom of menu bar).
+ Finder is unresponsive (can't open folders on the desktop and their icons are gone but not their names - relaunching the Finder does not help).
+ Applications won't launch from the Dock.
+ I can access the Restart, Sleep, Shutdown dialog box by pressing the off button on my ACD, but the Shutdown button doesn't work.
+ Holding the power button will not always force shutdown, but seems to put the computer in some sort of sleep mode (when pressing the button again the desktop will appear "greyed" out and a white progress bar will display).
As it doesn't happen upon every cold boot I haven't been able to use the Verbose mode. I have done the following:
+ Trashed the plists of Finder and Dock
    + Fixed permissions in DU
+ Left it unplugged from the mains for a whole day
    + Reset PRAM/NVRAM
+ Using Onyx, deleted the caches under Cleaning - System and Cleaning - User (radical perhaps?)
+ Turned off all login items (AppTrap, Gmail Notifr, Fuzzy Clock, Skype)
+ Run Apple Hardware Test, normal and extended, with no errors found
+ Verified boot disk in DU while booted from the installation disk: no errors
I tried a Safe Boot but it froze. However, it does not freeze every time.
When it froze this evening, I found loads of the following message in Console-All Messages:
*WindowServer[51] LaunchServices/5123589: coreservicesd is running an unsupported version, 0 ( we are 10500000 ), so we cannot talk to it.*
Many of them are prefaced by loginwindow[23] instead of WindowsServer.
Below are the messages in Console-Console messages from the latest time that it froze (all of the messages). There's some talk about com.apple.UserEventAgent-Aqua which I don't understand.
When it says that a "thread" crashes, could it be hardware-related (i.e. the processors)? But should not AHT have caught that? Or is it some corruption in the system? I have backups and clones so I'm not worried about losing data. I'm more concerned about the hardware.
Any thoughts and ideas would be helpful.
    /p

Actually, doing the following would probably fix everything; at least it has fixed every issue I have ever had.
If Disk Utility can't fix it, you'll need a more robust utility for the repair. I would recommend DiskWarrior. It is the best at directory repairs. It rebuilds then actually replaces your old directory. I feel every Mac owner should have a copy. Make sure you get the disk so you can boot up on it to run repairs. You can also install it on another drive and run it from there to repair this one. DW works faster that way.
I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand.
If you have a good backup, hopefully a clone of your system before you had issues, an Erase and Install may also rid you of this issue. But, beware! You will lose everything on the drive with this procedure. Let us know if you need help with that!
     Luck! DALE
p.s. by Thomas Bryant '''' from a previous post.
Diskwarrior is a "must have" utility and it's corrected any weird problem I've ever encountered. Anytime I have to do a forced shutdown etc. I run DW to get the directories back in tip top shape. Directory problems cause strange issues and often over the course of several weeks or months the little problems add up to finally a major problem. Tom

  • HEAT = Intermittent freezing or complete crash requiring a hard reboot

I have a stock Macbook Air 1.6ghz with the hard drive and I'm on my second machine. Both have done the same thing leading me to believe there is a serious defect in the Macbook Air. What happens is that after about a half hour of using the machine and running it with some apps like Parallels, video, whatever, it will get really hot. Especially in the upper left region of the computer. It feels hot to the point that you can't really hold on to it as it's too uncomfortable.
iStat claims the case temperature is: 108 degrees fahrenheit. This is prior to it getting really slow and crashing, since I can't really get to iStat when that happens anyway. The whole process of the Macbook Air getting to this point seems to correlate with using the disk and pushing the CPU. What always seems to be true is that the upper left region of the base of the computer is really hot.
The intermittent freezing is quite annoying as the trackpad will completely become non-responsive and you can't type or do anything. Although if a USB mouse is plugged in you can move that and it will move the mouse cursor on the screen, but clicking or doing anything doesn't work. One time we were in a video chat through iChat and it worked fine for about 20 minutes or so and then suddenly started doing the intermittent freezing. The video and audio would freeze, then it would suddenly come back and play the missed portion in fast forward or just skip it altogether.
So my question is how do we get this fixed, I love my Macbook Air, but being able to actually use it is even more important. The minute I try to do anything more compute intensive it just seems to seize up and die. From my experience and reading about other peoples experiences this appears to be a fundamental defect in the Macbook Air. I would like to actually get some support for this instead of the usual we don't know anything about it and blah, blah. Hopefully Apple will just own up to it and work to quickly fix it.

Yes I've considered what I do on the machine, and no it doesn't matter what I'm doing specifically. What does seem to matter is whether what I'm doing is taxing the machine. If I'm compiling software, running a video, running Parallels with Windows, copying large files, etc. then it will cause the machine to heat up and then start failing. I don't have to do very many things at the same time either, if I watch a video on it and compile some software it will heat it up and cause it to start failing. It seems to be a combination of using the processor and hard drive to where it can't handle things.
Right now for example I'm doing a Macports port install of Apache 2 and then typing this message into Safari. That's it. The machine is right now at 113 degrees F according to iStat. That seems to be the magic temperature where at that level and up it starts failing. It's hot enough that touching it is too uncomfortable. It's sitting on a Targus cool pad, clear open access for the vents below. It's simply not designed properly to handle doing anything that pushes the hardware, in my opinion and from my experience with it. I do really like the form factor though so I wish it did work properly. I'm writing about my experiences with it so hopefully Apple will pick up on what users are experiencing and fix the design of the machine. Clearly it has design issues.
The other thing that bothers me about the Macbook Air is that everyone acts like the users are somehow causing the problem. Things like oh you are blocking the fans and putting it on your lap, or you set it on something that causes it to heat up, or it's the software you are using. Well I've got news for you, these things should work in those environments, it shouldn't be a problem to put the thing on my lap, if I wanted a computer that I could only put on a table or something similar I would have just stuck with my Macbook Pro or bought an iMac. This thing is built to carry around and throw on your lap to get stuff done. At least that's why I wanted it.
I guess for now I'll just have to use it for only 20 - 30 minutes at a time and give it breaks to cool down, ugh!

  • Intermittent freezes while recording

Hello. While recording with Adobe Audition, there are intermittent freezes. As a result, there are sections in the recording where there is no sound at all. Here is an image of the wave:
    http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/548/auditionaf6.jpg
I am using Windows Vista on a laptop w/ a built in microphone. This problem doesnt occur when i use other sound recording programs. I have 2GB of RAM.

Turn off all processes working in the background, such as anti-virus programs, autoupdate programs, Wi-Fi cards, internet access, etc. They are stealing resources from your computer that Audition needs.

  • Slow launch and intermittent freezing in Windows 8.1

Been trolling through the threads and cannot find a solution. I've also tried the QTMovieWin.dll solution but no change. I've also uninstalled, then went back and deleted all reminants of iTunes related files (incl. Bonjour, iCloud, etc), then re started the computer and re-installing the latest iTunes program (via run as administrator). I've done this several times to date. On each occasion I launch iTunes but it take at least 10minutes for it to launch, and when it is running it intermittently freezes for a couple of minutes or so. Problem is worse when I attach one of my devices, and then becomes a pig of a thing to complete certain tasks.
Has anyone come across this behaviour? As far as I'm aware the drivers are update, but are any specific drivers that I should double check?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello eycon
Try out the article below to troubleshoot your issue with iTunes freezing on you. Also check to make sure that when you removed iTunes, did you uninstall in the order of the second article as it does make a difference when troubleshooting the issue.

  • Why is my MacBook Pro 10.6.8 intermittently freezing?

My MacBook Pro 10.6.8 is intermittently freezing, it will last about 60 minutes from start up before it freezes - the freeze typically starts when saving a document.
For example in Pages, error message: ‘-document name- could not be saved’, sometimes continuing ‘...because of Disk Error’. Then the software won’t quit, I try selecting Force Quit and that doesn’t open and then I get the Beach Ball. It has happened in Safari, Mail, Pages, Photoshop and also when I tried to open Disk Utility. On one occasion the words in Finder/Edit changed - 'Undo' was replaced by ME1, 'Redo' ME6 and 'Cut' ME13.
I have repaired permissions, installed latest OSX update and run Applejack. The Mac is early 2008 4GB RAM and has a Crucial SSD installed in Feb this year. I am fully backed up although I don’t have a bootable back up apart from the original OSX disks from ’08.
    Would really appreciate any clues.

    Hi Dale
26GB remaining (but bear in mind this a Solid State Drive which I'm told doesn't need so much headroom - I've previously run it fine with 12GB remaining).
    I have 4GB DDR2 SDRAM
    Thanks, Paul

  • Since I upgraded to Lion, my computer (iMac mid 2010) intermittently freezes.

Since I upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, my computer (iMac mid 2010) intermittently freezes.  The mouse moves, but I can't do anything.  I can unfreeze it every time by calling up the Force Quit box and then excaping out.  I've tried everything (all upgrades installed including firmware, new version of Flash), but it still freezes.  Any help is appreciated.

There are a couple of things to do. First is restart in the Recovery Partition and repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility and Repair the Disk. How you do this is when you hear the startup tone hold down the Option key and choose the Recovery Partition. Choose Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions at least twice. Then while you are in DU run Repair Disk twice. Quit Disk Utility and restart however restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches, it's possible one or more has become corrupt. After it has fully restarted then restart normally and test.
If you get the same behavior post back to try some other items.
BTW how much Free RAM does the machine have. You can find this out in Activity Monitor which is in Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor and click the System Memory tab.

  • Can I increase the frequency of email push on my iphone?

can I increase the frequency in which I receive email? can i get an email push every 5 minutes?

I hope they will be adding the every 5 mins option soon. I was happy with my old Samsung Galaxy Mini as it helped me stay on top of my personal and work mails. Mails just came in almost as soon as it was sent since I had it set to every 5 minutes. I decided to get an additional phone since the battery was going kaput and sometimes the screen went out. Heard raves about the iPhones so I got the iphone5. I noticed that I did not see new mails unless I checked the mailbox and I had to wait. It frustrates me to find that this new it phone can of put me on top of important things. I need to see my mails all the time as I usually have important and urgent matters throughout the day. I checked again in settings and in the net only to find that the most frequent push is every 15mins. That is too long an interval to know and act on important matters. Is there anything else I can do? The beauty of this phone would be defeated if I would have to mailbox and wait every time for the mails to load. My old Samsung which is not even top of the line gives me my email faster and I get to act upon work ASAP. When new mails come I see it right away, no more waiting time needed. Would anybody know if Apple fix this already? If not, I hope they do it really soon. This is a big let down for me. The apps are great including usability in terms of networking, images, etc but let's face it, personal and work email is more important than Facebook, YouTube and everything else. A good techie or Apple I hope you can help me or fix this with a system update, ASAP.  Thank you very much.

  • Intermittent freezing : computer unusable

    Hi,
My Macbook Pro (2.4Ghz intel) has developed recently (I've had it since september but this has only started in the last week or so) a terrible problem.
After being on for a while (more than 24 hours with many suspend/resume cycles) it becomes completely unusable with intermittent freezing.
It freezes for about 10s every 5s. It goes away when I reboot (sneaking it in during the 5s of interactivity). When I say freezes I mean the entire display stops, no cursor movement, window redrawing or anything, although things I do with the mouse/keyboard are 'saved up' and appear during the 5s window of normal behaviour.
I tried activity monitor, but can't see anything in that because it doesn't redraw during the problem.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed with troubleshooting this, if anyones heard of a similar problem, or whether I should approach Apple (I have HE contract uplift for applecare but in my experience to date it seems pretty worthless; I had thought it would be proper support but evidently it just adds phone... but I'm making another post about Apple support).
    Thanks,

One thing that comes to mind is that it could be the hard drive. So the first thing to do is to back up your data and keep it backed up until the hard drive is eliminated as a possibility.
Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder in your Application folder). Click on the hard drive by brand name and then on the First Aid Tab. Check at the bottom to see that S.M.A.R.T. status is verified. Also click on the "Verify Disk" to be sure the disk doesn't need repair. Once the Disk is verified, go ahead and repair permissions using the "Repair Disk Permissions" on the lower left. Repair until there is nothing left to repair.
If all this goes well, click on the "Macintosh HD". At the bottom right, check on the "Capacity", "Available", and "Used". You want to check that your drive is not getting too full. If you have 15%-20% of the total capacity available as free space, then lack of free space is not the problem.
The other thing to do is to run the Apple Hardware Test. You do that by booting from Install Disc #1 while holding down "D". Instructions are on the disc and will be on the screen when you boot up. Run the extended version. If you get any error codes, write them down and call Apple. An error code indicates a hardware problem, which will be covered by your warranty. Same thing if S.M.A.R.T. status is not verified.
Since the freeze seems to happen when the machine warms up, I am suspicious that it may be a logic board problem. I had a very similar problem with my iBook which turned out to be the logic board. Don't know if it's the same with your MBP, but since it seems to be heat related, it could well be something similar.
Because corrupted software could also cause freezing, Apple will likely want you to reinstall the OS to see if that's the problem. That's what they had me do on the iBook. As it happened, the freezing was so bad that it was not possible to reinstall the OS--it froze during the process, which had to be aborted, giving me a message that my hard drive would be done in, which it ultimately was.
Try some of these steps, and post back if you have any questions or need any clarification on anything.
    Good luck!

  • Timed increase in frequency into "simulate signal.vi"

Hi all, I'm an absoulte beginner with labview so any help would be greatly appreciated, I want to increase the frequency of a generated sine wave, created using the simulate signal.vi, in set increments over time.
In other words I want the simulate signal.vi to produce a sine wave that will over a set period of time increase in frequency from say 39.5kHz to 41.5kHz, in increments of 0.1hz.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What are you unfamiliar with? All of the express functions have their name and you can use the search button on the functions palette? The only only thing you might need is a shift register and you get that by clicking on the border of the for loop. You might want to check the free tutorials.
You don't mention which version of LabVIEW you are using so here it is as 8.0.

  • MDD Dual867MHz - Intermittent "freezes" under Leopard

    Hello -
I have a problem I'm hoping to solicit some input on...
    First - the setup:
    - A Dual 867MHz MDD; 1.25GB RAM; running Leopard 10.5.6 - no additional applications/software installed beyond stock OS.
    - 4 HDD - 1. 160GB ATA Primary drive (Western Digital); 2. 60GB ATA Secondary Drive (Seagate); 3. and 4. each is a 1TB SATA Western Digital - these drives are Mirrored together via Disk Utility and a connected to the system via a Sonnet Tempo 2 internal SATA port PCI card.
    The rough problem description:
    - The machine boots, sleeps, and runs fine... Except - I enable Remote Management and Personal File Share on the machine with the intention of having my other Macs access the HDDs of the MDD (for Time Machine, SuperDuper, general centralised storage of some media -- yes, I also have an alternate backup strategy of incremental backups for Mirrored 1TB to Amazon S3 if I can ever get the MDD itself stable).
    - The connecting machines (i.e. source Macs) may be any combination of a 2.33GHz 15.4" MBP with 4GB RAM install (I know - 3 usable); a 2.16GHz 13.3" White MacBook with 2GB RAM installed; a 1.5GHz 12" PowerBook G4 with 1.25GB RAM installed -- All running Leopard 10.5.6.
    - If I connect to screen and file sharing using the Admin account from one or more of the source Macs, perform various operations, disconnect, reconnect, etc, then after some completely variable amount of time, sharing connections start to fail, and the G4 slowly goes insane and freezes (no panics, just a slow degrade to the Ball of Death).
    - I then have to hard reset the MDD, which typically leads to a whack of permissions problems that I need to repair (stuck a blue screen on boot; stuck at grey Apple-logo-screen at boot are the most common).
The MDD is presently not headless, though that is my ultimate goal. It has a 15" ADC LCD connected.
I'm wondering if the community is aware of any instability with Leopard's Personal File Sharing and Remote Management together on G4s?
I've tried the same configuration with Tiger (10.4.11), and don't see the same instability.
Any thoughts from the gurus? Or am I destined for Tiger on the MDD and using the questionable "defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1" to get Time Machine on the source Macs to recognise the Mirrored 1TB on the MDD?
    Many thanks in advance!

    reason: typos

My machine has similar problems. I have an MDD same model. I actually have the intermittent freezes plus boot up takes anywhere from 5 to 20 min. I checked and everything looks fine, hardware tests, different drives, different drive buses. And same issues. I was trying to run Leopard server on it, then i tried leopard client, same issues. I'm back on tiger server, and it works great. I keep thinking it's a device issue maybe it doesn't like the built in ATA controller (even thought that wouldn't make any sense since it should be a supported machine). So I thought about possibly putting in a third party drive controller maybe SATA (However if the poster below has similar issues than that may rule that out of the question). I'm a little confused. This is a supported machine! Why would i have problems. I even used different install discs, didn't matter. I went through 6 installs of Leopard, (3 server, 3 client) and all the same results. So for now i'm still on Tiger Server...

  • Intermittent Freezes after Bootcamp 2.1 upgrade

Approximately every 10 to 15 minutes, I get a 15-20 second "freeze". That is the best way I can explain it. All computer functions stop completely, even the mouse movement. Placing my ear onto the device, it sounds different while this is happening. Everything appears to work fine before and after the freeze.
This only happened after installing the latest bootcamp update. I also have the problem described in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1514424&tstart=0
What is the bootcamp taskbar program called and must I have that running all the time?

Firebird74, that thread doesn't apply to my situation exactly. I'm running Win XP under Boot Camp, not Vista, and my intermittent freeze happens consistently whether I am plugged in or on battery power.
Through reading several Apple Boot Camp discussion posts, I determined that I can fix the problem manually by force quitting KbdMgr.exe from task manager after each reboot, but this is rather annoying and I'm not even sure what KbdMgr.exe does, since it doesn't appear to affect anything at all without it running.
I'm using Input Remapper also, which shows up in my Task Bar, however I do not have any Boot Camp icon in the taskbar. I was wondering whether KbdMgr.exe is conflicting with Input Remapper.
I tried the Intel Chipset driver download from another seemingly related post, but it said my hardware wasn't new enough and quit.
