Intermittent internet/communication outages

I've been struggling with an issue with my internet connection for years, and I cannot find a solution or even a probable cause for the life of me. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated greatly.
I have a modem connected to my Time Capsule (4th gen) with Cat5e, and an Airport Extreme (1st gen) in a different room to extend the wireless range of the network. It has a printer connected to it with a usb cable. As I use the internet—I think heavy use (large downloads, videos, etc.) trigger the issue more quickly, but I'm not sure—I will eventually become disconnected. I will remain connected to the network, but I will not be able to ping web servers (by domain name or IP address), or even the access points that I am supposedly still receiving a signal from. Disconnecting and reconnecting fixes the problem after a couple seconds of connectivity. Most of the pings will simply time out, but on occasion, I will get a message reading "Reply from [my computer's private IP]: no route to host". I have reproduced this issue on both a mac (OS ~10.7 to 10.9) and a PC (Windows 8.1). Windows is unable to diagnose the problem using its built-in utilities. Left alone, I think the issue eventually fixes itself, but it seems to return eventually anyway. One computer on the network is usually affected at a time; they do not go down simultaneously.
Changing the firmware from 7.6.4 to 7.5.2 (and to the ones in between, and back to 6.4 again) seems to temporarily help (sometimes), but doesn't really change anything. I have a wireless phone, but it operates outside of WiFi frequencies (I checked). Restarting has appeared to help at first in the past, with the problem taking ~1 hour to resurface, but it now seems to do nothing. A wired connection (i.e. ethernet) seems to solve the problem; but because it is intermittent, is often stalled temporarily by changes, and I wasn't able to test it for very long, I cannot be completely sure. I have analyzed the channels of nearby WiFi networks, and found that no other networks were on channel 1—they were all on either 6 or 11—so I switched it, with little to no effect. I had/have very good reception on both affected machines, with both reading full signal strength (though the strength seems to sometimes weaken to around half on Windows when the problem occurs). When the problem isn't in effect, I get 20mbps down and 5mbps up (according to SpeedOf.Me).
My internet connection isn't on the verge of collapse, so I don't see why it would do any of this. Further, it's very strange that I can ping neither wireless access point when the issue arises. Tracert (traceroute on OSX) and pathping both confirm that, when I want to talk to either device, I connect to it directly, not through the other one. I have never heard of a network suddenly going silent on a client for no reason, only to communicate again once it reconnects.
I'm at the end of my rope with this. I've asked about this in other places, and received no replies at all. If you have anything to offer, please ask me about it. Thanks.

Since I don't know what troubleshooting steps you have performed so far other than what you have posted, I would recommend the following general approach in an attempt to find the culprit(s) causing your networking issues.
I would start with your Internet modem. What is its make & model? Is it older than 3 yrs old? If it is, then have your ISP replace it with a newer model. If not, and as a minimum, have your ISP 'test' the line between their service and the modem to verify that the modem is receiving a clean signal.
Once the modem & line are verified, connect a single computer to the modem and use this connection for at least 2-3 days. Any issues with this temporary setup? If not, go on to the next step.
Note: Perform this step ONLY if your modem is a simple modem, not a combination modem/router or gateway device. Perform a 'factory default' reset on your Time Capsule (TC.) This will get the TC back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration. It will default to an Internet router and broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name (aka, SSID) of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Once the reset has been completed connect it to the modem using a known good Ethernet cable. Connect the cable between the modem's LAN (or Ethernet) port to the WAN (circle of dots) port on the TC. Power up the TC. Connect a wireless client to the TC and verify that you can access it with the AirPort Utility. Configure the TC as required for a non-extended network. Again use a computer on this network for 2-3 days to see if any issues reappear.
Please post back your results.

  • Internet slowdowns/outages and Carbonite

I've just spent several hours of quality time with my home FIOS network, trying to track down intermittent network slowdowns and outages, and the culprit in my case turned out to be:
Carbonite, the back up software package.
I've seen a bunch of other posts here from people beating their heads against the wall over intermittent Internet slowdowns and outages, so I figured I would post my experience.
I was dreading the usual futile call(s) to Verizon support, so I was determined to rule out as many things as possible before calling them.  By running traceroute (I have a Win 7 machine, so it's actually "tracert")  to the Google DNS servers (8.8.8.8) while systematically disconnecting my machines from the network,  I was able to determine that one of my computers was causing the problem.
Then, again while running tracert, I stopped various suspect processes and applications on that machine until I found the one that was causing the problem. In my case, it was Carbonite as it tried to back up large TIFF files.
Because all of the devices on my network (including the Video on Demand feature on my set top cables boxes) experienced the slowdowns at the same time, I made the mistaken assumption that the problem was upstream of my devices: either at the router, the ONT, or the network coming into my house. I was quick to assume that it was Verizon's fault. However, Carbonite was hosing performance between the router and the ONT, and ALL my devices suffered from the slowdown.
    Hope this helps.

If you're not sure how to run tracert on Windows:
    1. On a machine with a wired connection direct to the router, bring up a command prompt as administrator. (Doing this through wireless or through a hub adds an additional layer of complexity and potential problems. Stick to a machine going straight to the router, and not via a switch or hub.)
    2. While the network is acting slow, run traceroute to the Google DNS servers:
    > tracert 8.8.8.8
    3. Your first line (the router) should be quick: probably less than 1 ms, but at least 2 ms or less:
Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]  over a maximum of 30 hops:
            1     1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  Wireless_Broadband_Router.home [192.168.1.1]
    4. When the network problems are present you will probably see numbers in the high hundreds through several thousand ms beyond the router. Or you will see an asterisk if the connection is so slow it's timing out:
              2     *        *     3452 ms  Lnnn.xxxxx-VFxxx-88.verizon-gni.net [71.16n.nn.1]
              3  1013 ms   817 ms  1023 ms  G4-0-788.xxxxx-LCR-07.verizon-gni.net [130.81.nnn.nnn]
              4   927 ms   912 ms  1125 ms  so-0-n-0-0.xxx-BB-xxx.verizon-gni.net [130.81.nn.nn]
    5. Disconnect things from your router until the numbers suddenly drop back down to double-digits. The system you disconnected just before this happens is your culprit.
                1     1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  Wireless_Broadband_Router.home [192.168.1.1]
                2    46 ms    46 ms    46 ms  Lnnn.xxxxx-VFxxx-88.verizon-gni.net [71.16n.nn.1]
                3    45 ms    46 ms    47 ms  G4-0-788.xxxxx-LCR-07.verizon-gni.net [130.81.nnn.nnn]
                4    46 ms    46 ms   300 ms  so-0-n-0-0.xxx-BB-xxx.verizon-gni.net [130.81.nn.nn]
    6. Now repeat this process, but with just the problem machine and the other wired machine connected to the router, and try to identify the application or the process causing the problem. Note that the the results may not be instantaneous. In the case of Carbonite, it can take up to a minute after you pause it through its GUI before it finishes whatever it was doing and shuts down. Likewise, it can take a minute or two after it resumes backing up a big file before your network performance goes to hell again.

I believe what you stated about Carbonite but I'm very leary now about using any online backup service ever again.
I myself am a computer technician and know my pc better than anyone, as I built it!
Well, Norton Online backup crashed on me June 29th and refused to run for 4 days  (July 2d) until I called Symantec tech support.  They actually blamed my FIOS connection to their servers. My small backup started taking over 2 hours to connect and attempt a backup, until I received the dreaded red X that it failed to connect.  My backup generally took a few minutes to complete.
Long story very short:  after their backup ran flawflessly for 1 year, I made the dreaded mistake of allowing their tech to do a remote access to my business pc.  Spent 10 hours ( 5hrs for 2 days!) with them troubleshooting and I told them if they were able to access me via my FIOS connection, then it was not me, but their servers which had connection issues.  They installed 2 pieces of software against my wishes and Vista crashed, never to see the desktop again.  I wanted to choke the tech but he was lucky I'm in NY and he was in India, I guess.  Lucky I didn't have to depend on their awful restore process and I had a full PC restore on my external drive which worked!   I'm not sure how Carbonite's restore process works, but from my understanding, most online backup restorations can take days to restore!  No joke.  Never again....although I was looking into Macrium Reflect free edition.

    Dear Gurus,
Hope you all are fine. I am consuming 2 external WSDL's in ABAP (SE80 - Service Consumer). These are working fine in SAP DEV server. But when i execute tham in SAP QAS server, i am getting this error.
(SOAP:1.023 SRT: Processing error in Internet Communication Framework: ("ICF Error when receiving the response: ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION))
can anybody tell whet could be the problem?
    Thanks

    Dear Inaki,
These proxies are working fine in DEV server. I transported them in QAS and tried to execute but getting that error. Networking team say that SAP and other servers can free communicate to each other.

  • SOAP:1.023 SRT: Processing error in Internet Communication Framework: ("ICF Erro

    Hi All,
We are facing an issue while setting up ccms alerts on PI system application server.
We have solman 7.0 with EHP1 and adding SAP PI netweaver 7.1 as remotely monitored system through solman using saphostagent. The system was registered successfully and alerts work fine for central instance of satellite PI system.
But the application server remians offline status. When we do a connection tect from solman system; it gives error "SOAP:1.023 SRT: Processing error in Internet Communication Framework: ("ICF Erro".
In SMICM, HTTP and other services are active for this app server. But in the log we have alerts
    "[Thr 1114540352] *** WARNING => Connection request from (17/18/0) to host: <server name>, service: 50013 failed (NIECONN_REFUSED)
    [Thr 1114540352]  {0009bd3e} [icxxconn_mt.c 2245]"
When try the connection test for connection type G under HTTP connections to external server. It is successful for CI but fails for app server with message "ICM_HTTP_CONNECTION_FAILED"
    with same error message (NIECONN_REFUSED).
Please advise how can we fix this. Could this be DNS server entry issue etc.
    Thanks
    Varun

    Hi Sunny,
Yes; the ping from solman to satellite(PI) system and vice versa is working fine. And the dev_icm alerts I mentioned were bpresent in app server of PI eveen before we registered it in solman system.
    Thanks

  • SOAP:1.023 SRT: Processing error in Internet Communication Framework

    Hi,
We are developing consumer proxies on ECC enhancement Package 4.
Could you please advice us on the mandatory Technical Configuration that is required in order to consume Web Services from external (non-SAP systems) Providers?
We are trying to test a consumer proxy which consumes a Web Service hosted on a third party system but we are getting the following error:
SOAP:1.023 SRT: Processing error in Internet Communication Framework: (""ICF Error when receiving the response: ICM_HTTP_
    Thank you in advance.
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
If I were SAP support I'd point you at [SAP Note 5|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/5]-
If I were a grumpy forum user I'd answer with [Let me google this for you|http://lmgtfy.com/?q=SOAP%3A1.023+SRT]
Since I have my good 5 minutes I'd say this:
The most important part of your description is missing, that is ...ICM_HTTP_XXXXX????? with XXXXX???? probably being CONNECTION FAILED. Most probably you have a routing or proxy problem, which means, your app server can't reach the destination (given your destination URL does exist at all).
You might find details in ST11 and some help in [this thread|Calling external webservice fails on 4 of the 5  server instances;.
    Have fun,

  • Intermittent Internet, ichat and email ok

This is driving me mad... Since upgrading 2 machines in the office to Snow Leopard, both have intermittent internet connection, although ichat and email work ok. Also, my macbook pro [new model] has the same issue when I bring into the office and use with the wireless network. All other macs in the office on Leopard [10.5] are unaffected but use the same internet connection. We are in services offices that supply our internet - all macs will go through a router, one links up via airport extreme base station. I can get a temp fix by turning my network off [in system prefs] and back on again, but this only helps for about an hour. All software has been updated to the latest.
    Don't tell me I have to re-install 10.5...

    Hi,
If your sister is on 10.5.x there is a "known issue" with Internet Sharing if it is On (even if nothing is attached as it were) and iChat.
The upshot is in OS 10.5.x Internet Sharing has to be Off.
If it is On because of Parallels then the two VPNs that are also created need also turning Off in System Preferences > Network and Parallels told to gets it's Own IP from the Routing device (Which she of course does not have).
What happens is Internet Sharing invokes the AMc to be a router and issues IPs to the devices connected.
This is turn provide s route to the Internet.
Unfortunately in Leopard (10.5.x) iChat can see this route to the Internet even if it is a WiFi able Mobile phone.
iChat cannot resolve tow connection to the Internet.

  • Internet Communication Manager (ICM)

    Hi,
I would like to ask whether where can i download Internet Communication Manager (ICM) ??
or where can i find this application??
    thanx

    ICM exists in two variaties:
    A. The SAP Web Dispatcher, which is a stand-alone version of the ICM, used for load-balancing scenarios between ABAP/J2EE Web Application Servers, and has the name: sapwebdisp.exe under Windows, or just sapwebdisp under various UNIX flavors.
    B. The ICM integrated into the ABAP application server: It's the internet communications enabler for the ABAP Web Application Server, and it runs alongside the disp+work processes of any ABAP appliacation server. Its name is icman.exe or just icman under UNIX.
The sapwebdisp one is an optional component, and it comes in the SAPEXE.SAR archive in which you download the rest of the ABAP kernel components. It's also downloadable as a separate component from the downloads area.
The icman also comes in the SAPEXE.SAR archive, and it's installed by default and enabled by default with any installation of the ABAP WAS since (at least) WAS 6.20.
    Hope this clears it up.

  • Internet communication Framework

Can any one explain Internet communication Framework service in integration server???

    Hi,
ICF is a framework which helps us to operate on request-response mode of operations using internet standard protocols like HTTP, HTTPS, and SMTP.
It is the framework which ICM (Internet Communication Manager in WebAS) uses for communication to other systems. By using this framework ICM can handle all the requests and send back the responses based on the request type (JAVA/ABAP).

  • Intermittent Internet

I’m suffering from intermittent Internet connection and it’s driving me nuts. My provider (COX) says that signal is OK up to their modem… When I call everything starts working ok but later on the problem persists.
I have 2 AirPort Express connected – one as router and one as bridge, and 4 machines logged on to them – 3 Macs, one PC. They’ve being working great for a year. Network between computers is OK.
Is there any known issues going on with AirPort Express that can relate to my problem?
    Thanks

Radiofrequency interference is a common cause. Try using a different channel (try either 1 or 11) - same channel on both, change on the remote first before changing the main.
Also make sure both devices are running firmware 6.1.1 and not version 6.2 released recently:
