Intermittent internet connection with Airport

I've had Macs for over 14 years but I am new to wireless. My new Airport Extreme at home has worked flawlessly and never been down.
The office I work for has had problems with their wireless network. Intermittent or no internet connection. The MacBook and iMac read a very strong signal but could not connect to the Inernet. The 2 PCs worked randomly. Since I was so impressed with my Airport Extreme, I bought one to replace the Linksys router at the office. It set up quickly and all 3 laptops and 2 PCs found the network. All were also able to get an internet connection. However since then, it has cut out numerous times and sometimes even after restarting both router and computer it can not get an internet connection even though there is a full signal.
Does this appear to be an interference problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you tested it from other Internet connection
points or tested other computers from your connection
point?
When the internet connection drops, it drops on all four computers on the network. That's why I figured it was due to the basestation. ??

  • Sharing an internet connection with Airport express and Time Capsule

Hi, I have been happily using a cable modem and a Time Capsule for my internet connection and wireless network. We recently added solar panels to our roof and the system needs to be connected to the internet so it can be monitored remotely. Calling Comcast is an exercise in frustration, and the solar people don't seem to know exactly how to do it, so I'm trying this.
We bought an Airport Express, thinking if it is connected with an ethernet cable to the solar system, it could somehow share the internet connection with the Time Capsule, or they could talk to each other. When I plug in the Airport Express, the only set-up option seems to be to set up a new network, which I don't think I want to do. Can anyone tell me how to set this up? Thank you!

    Hi, Under Water.
You should configure the Express to "Join a wireless network" or to "Extend a wireless network". (Either one will work.)
Connect your computer to your Express via Ethernet and open AirPort Utility. Press "Manual Setup" and authenticate if necessary.
Go to the "Base Station" tab. Give the Express a name and password.
Go to the "Wireless" tab. Set the Wireless mode to "Join a wireless network" or "Extend a wireless network." Enter the name of the wireless network created by your Time Capsule (or select it from the list). Check the box that says "Allow Ethernet clients" (if you're joining) or "Allow Wireless Clients" (if you're extending).
Provide the appropriate security mode and password for the Time Capsule's network.
Press "Update" and allow your Express to restart.
Then you can plug the solar system into the Express's Ethernet port.

  • Intermittent internet connection via airport express

I've got a MacBook Core Duo and a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo...both with airport express. My internet connection is via a DLink DI-624 to Motorola cable modem. The DI-624 is setup with WPA security...which has been working fine for my windows laptop and PDA.
I've been getting random problems with web surfing even though the airport express icon shows full bars. During those problem times, safari reports no internet connection.
I've noticed that I can sometimes bring internet connection back by turning off the airport (via the icon at the top) and then turning it back on. Don't like this, as wireless connection should just work...and this doesn't always fix it.
    Suggestions?
    Thank you.

I am currently using the 802.11n Airport Express (firmware 7.4.2) as a wireless router to serve 2 802.11g Windows PCs. However, our internet connection seems to have slowed significantly recently.
When I connect directly via a LAN cable, my download speed is 25+ mbps. However, the download speed slows to only 6-7 mbps when connected wirelessly via the Airport Express. The speed remains this slow even when only one computer is connected wirelessly.
In general an Ethernet connection will be faster than a Wi-Fi connection.
In AirPort Utility for Mac (which ought to be similar for the same program for Windows) you can enter "manual setup" mode, then select the "Advanced" panel, click the "Logs and Statistics" button, then click the "Wireless Clients" tab. If you can do that, what values do you see in the lower part of the window for "SIgnal" and "Noise"?

  • AT&T USBConnect 881aircard as internet connection with airport express

I have a usb air card(internet connection, almost same as a usb modem) I want to know can I use the usb connection an an Airport Express or Airport Extreme to connect my usb air card? So i can have more than one computer use the air card(internet connection) at a time.

remisbowman, Welcome to the discussion area!
Neither the AirPort Express (AX) nor the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) support any type of USB modems, USB networking card, nor USB networking in general.
    It won't work.

  • Intermittent Internet Connection with Time Capsule

Just got a new Time Capsule and it seems to lock-up every few seconds when playing any internet-based game. It also seems to drop internet connection altogether just about every day (I have to go through diagnostics to reconnect).
I've already updated firmware thinking that might solve problem. I'd like to keep it if I can resolve these issues, but wondering if I should simply return. Any help would be appreciated.

It's likely your wireless network. Check this thread on cordless phones and TC.

  • Lose internet connection with airport express

I have a powerpc imac G5 and intel powerbook with built in airport and using an airport express for both. I've since moved in with my fiance and she has a PC. We can all connect to my airport express without any problems initially. Every once in a while though I'll lose my connection in all 3 computers. The green light on the express is lit at all times. If I unplug the express and replug and wait for it to reset, all is fine again... for a while... then some days later it'll go out again. Any ideas why this is happening.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hana, welcome to the discussions!
First thing to check is how much competition you have for the airways in your area.
Download iStumbler, www.istumbler.net to get a look at the other wireless networks that may be causing interference with your system.
Pay close attention to the channels that the other networks are occupying. Then using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup - Wireless Tab, change your channel to a setting that is as far away as possible from the other channels in use.
If you are in a dense area of apartments, etc., it may be quite difficult to find a clear channel. And, most modern routers allow the user to keep their network hidden, so you may not be able to even see some networks. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts here.
You might also try "interference robustness" under "Options" on the Wireless Tab in AirPort Utility - Manual Setup. There may be a slight speed penalty for using this setting, but if it prevents interruptions, that will be good compromise.
    Post back on your progress.

  • Airport Extreme intermittently loses connection with Internet?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to a router that is connected to our cable modem. Internet connection is fine, but the Airport Extreme will intermittently lose connection with the Internet and shows a solid amber light. Turning the Airport Extreme off and then on again will resolve the issue, however, this happens about once per week (at different days/times) and would like to ensure a consistent connection even when I'm not at home. (We are thinking of installing a lighting control system that depends upon a consistent wireless connection to work properly, even when we aren't home to restart the Airport Extreme). Please advise on what the trouble might be and how we can get a permanent resolution to the issue.

Is your Extreme an 802.11g (domed-shape) or 802.11n (squarish) model? Do you have the Extreme connected to the other router by Ethernet? Finally, is the Extreme configured as a bridge, i.e., Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)?

  • Sharing internet connection with powerbook and nintendo wii through airport

i have been trying to share my internet connection from my imac to my powerbook and nintendo wii. i've been unable to accomplish neither. i've opened the sharing preferences, chosen "share your connection from built in ethernet" which is how my imac is connected to the internet, and then chosen "to computers using airport". if i then set my airport options to automatic channel, encryption using 40 bit wep and set a 5 character password as it says if you "plan to share your internet connection with non-apple computers", (and then turn internet sharing on) shouldn't i be able to connect either/both my powerbook and my nintendo wii? or is it necessary to have some other piece of hardware or go through some other steps?
thanks in advance for any help.

I got a macbook for college and I had the same problem with connecting my Wii to the macbook's connection. But lo and behold, the internet's a wonderful place! I tried this out (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070514152251515) and it worked! I'm not sure about the powerbook bit though, sorry. Hope it works for you too.

  • Problems sharing internet connection through Airport with a PS3

Does anybody know how to share an internet connection wirelessly with a PS3? I've tried everything including following directions from the tech support people from both Sony and my ISP (Verizon) and nothing works. Last time I've talked to Verizon I've obtained a IP number from them as Sony recommended and that did not work either. Is anybody out there with a PS3 sharing the internet connection through Airport successfully? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks.!!

    Let's double-check your Mac's Internet Sharing settings ...
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Setup the Network
    Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > \[Ethernet port] Mac > (wireless) > PS3
    Enable Software Firewall
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o Block all incoming connections (enabled)
    Enable Internet Sharing
    System Preferences > Sharing
o Select "Internet Sharing" from the options in the left column
o Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
o To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    AirPort Options...
    o Network Name: <anything you want>
    o Channel: Automatic
o Enable encryption (using WEP) (optional)
    o Password: (optional)
    o Confirm Password: (optional)
    o WEP Key Length: (optional)
    o Click OK
    o Select "Internet Sharing" again
o Click "Start" to start Internet Sharing

  • Problem with not getting Internet Connect on AirPort Express

Problem with not getting Internet Connect on AirPort Express (version7.6.4). Error says cannot get valid IP address. Have reset Siemens SpeedStream 4100 several time, even with tech support from the big "A" DSL provider. Plug MacBook Pro directly into modem and works fine. Unplugged AirPort, even reset it, still no luck. A bad Express?? or am not looking in the right place to make connection. Was working fine up until Sunday.

Connect the AirPort Express (AX) to the cable modem via Ethernet cable.
In configuring the AX using AirPort Utility:
Under Internet, set the connection to be Ethernet using DHCP.
Under Connection Sharing, set it to distribute a range of IP addresses.
Under AirPort>Wireless, set the Wireless Mode to Create a wireless network, and fill in the remaining settings in the same window. Until you get it working, you might want to set Wireless Security to None.

  • Can creative cloud be used with intermittent internet connections?

    Hi,
I have a number of clients that like to "work on the ice" if you know what I mean. They ar eall ice fishermen or work in that industry. Can CC be used with intermittent internet connections?
    Thanks,
           Van

    Hi Van,
I copied this from the Creative Cloud FAQ:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html
Do I need ongoing Internet access to use my Adobe® Creative Cloud™ desktop applications?
No. Your Creative Cloud desktop applications (such as Adobe® Photoshop® and Illustrator®) are installed directly on your computer, so you won't need an ongoing Internet connection to use them on a daily basis.
An Internet connection is required the first time you install and license your desktop apps, but you can use the apps in offline mode with a valid software license. The desktop apps will attempt to validate your software licenses every 30 days.
For annual members, you can use the apps for up to 99 days in offline mode. Month-to-month members can use the software for up to 30 days in offline mode.
    Hope that helps,
    -Dave

  • Sharing internet connection with Windows via Airport

    Happy New Year, all!
I have an iMac Intel Core Duo connected to an ADSL modem via ethernet. I'd like to share my internet connection via Airport with a Windows laptop (which is running XP with SP2). I've read that this is possible and I've tried setting it up but the laptop isn't seeing the Airport network at all.
I've created a network with security off, from the Airport drop-down menu in the iMac menu bar, turned Internet Sharing on (Share from: ethernet - to computers using: Airport). I have Windows Sharing and Personal Web Sharing turned on, and my firewall is off. But the Airport network still doesn't show up on the laptop.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or at least point me in the right direction.
    Many thanks in advance.

i am having the same problem. i have the mac connected but when i go to windows i can't get the page open that says to connect. when i run the mouse over the icons at the bottom of the page it shows the airport signal being excellent. but i just can't get to a page to enter the "key to connect". it is greyed out and shows that it is limited or not connectivity.
    please someone help!

  • Make AirPort Extreme share internet connection with Time Capsule

    Hello,
This is the situation: in one room there's an old Mac, the modem which delivers the internet and the AirPort Extreme which is connected to the modem.
In another room there's the Mac Pro, the Time Capsule which is connected to the Mac Pro with an ethernet cable and to a printer via USB.
I want the AirPort Extreme to wirelessly share it's internet connection with the Time Capsule so that the Time Capsule can share the printer with all three Macs (old Mac, Mac Pro and Macbook Pro), the Mac Pro can use the Time Capsule for Time Machine functionality and maybe the Macbook Pro too.
And just using the Time Capsule for internet.
    How can I do this?
At the moment the AirPort Extreme is disconnected and the Time Capsule is used instead, but this way I can't share the printer...
    Thanks!

Is that AirPort Extreme "flat" or dome-shaped?  If it's flat (802.11n-capable), you should be able to configure the "main" router to "Allow this network to be extended" and the other to "Join a wireless network".  If the Extreme is dome-shaped, then you need a more-complicated "WDS" arrangement.  In either case it shouldn't matter much which router plays which role.
I'm not sure what you mean by "And just using the Time Capsule for internet."

Is the printer connected to the USB port of the Time Capsule?  Can you see the printer in the "Printer" panel of AirPort Utility?  What happens when you try to use it from one of the Macs?
