Intermittent Internet Issues

My internet (Uverse) has been really hit and miss in the last few weeks.  When I went to Troubleshoot & Resolve, it said "service issue detected", then the message  "We were not able to verify the connection to your U-verse Wi-Fi Gateway."  I have a NVG6510 modem and the wi-fi setup light is not on at all.  I can usually get internet on the computer connected directly to the modem but not on devices attached through the wi-fi.  When it goes off, I usually have to reboot the modem to regain service.

Hey there.  you're line readings are immaculate, so I wouldn't imagine that there is any physical line trouble, or anything wrong with the phones or filters that would interfere with your connection.    Intermittent problems are super hard to diagnose, so the more info the better.
Are you ethernet cable or Wireless on your pc
does the problem happen at night more or pretty much anytime,
how long does it stay down whne it's broken, and what are you doing to get it fixed (i.e. rebooting router etc...)
and what state are you in.

  • How to troubleshoot intermittent Internet Issue at a primary school

I would change the password on your wireless and only hand it out to staff that need it or as they ask for it one by one.  That gives you a way to see what is connecting to your network and when it goes down you have a small number of staff that you know have the password.  I would be suspicious also of a AP possibly being set in a bridge mode and is causing a loop in your system.  The DNS could also be a cell phone or cellular enabled laptop/tablet that is sharing it's connection and causing a problem with your system.

I have been struggling for three or four weeks trying to resolve this issue. I am now of the opinion that there are two different issues here each contributing to the problem. To give you a breakdown. The school has two servers, one internet caching/filtering/proxy server, 20 computers, 45 laptops (most wired in, not wireless) and a dozen ipads.About three weeks ago I received reports that the Internet was very slow and timing out frequently. After spending some time troubleshooting the issue, I decided to shut down the children's computers (unplug from network), the wireless access points and the shared area computers. I only had one switch running as I connected everything to that switch.
I left it for about three days - everything seemed to work. So I added the kids computers. Internet continued to work without any issues, but we...

Go step by step and test.
    1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
        Restart the computer.

  • Intermittent Internet, ichat and email ok

This is driving me mad... Since upgrading 2 machines in the office to Snow Leopard, both have intermittent internet connection, although ichat and email work ok. Also, my macbook pro [new model] has the same issue when I bring into the office and use with the wireless network. All other macs in the office on Leopard [10.5] are unaffected but use the same internet connection. We are in services offices that supply our internet - all macs will go through a router, one links up via airport extreme base station. I can get a temp fix by turning my network off [in system prefs] and back on again, but this only helps for about an hour. All software has been updated to the latest.
    Don't tell me I have to re-install 10.5...

    Hi,
If your sister is on 10.5.x there is a "known issue" with Internet Sharing if it is On (even if nothing is attached as it were) and iChat.
The upshot is in OS 10.5.x Internet Sharing has to be Off.
If it is On because of Parallels then the two VPNs that are also created need also turning Off in System Preferences > Network and Parallels told to gets it's Own IP from the Routing device (Which she of course does not have).
What happens is Internet Sharing invokes the AMc to be a router and issues IPs to the devices connected.
This is turn provide s route to the Internet.
Unfortunately in Leopard (10.5.x) iChat can see this route to the Internet even if it is a WiFi able Mobile phone.
iChat cannot resolve tow connection to the Internet.

  • Intermittent Internet

I’m suffering from intermittent Internet connection and it’s driving me nuts. My provider (COX) says that signal is OK up to their modem… When I call everything starts working ok but later on the problem persists.
I have 2 AirPort Express connected – one as router and one as bridge, and 4 machines logged on to them – 3 Macs, one PC. They’ve being working great for a year. Network between computers is OK.
Is there any known issues going on with AirPort Express that can relate to my problem?
    Thanks

Radiofrequency interference is a common cause. Try using a different channel (try either 1 or 11) - same channel on both, change on the remote first before changing the main.
Also make sure both devices are running firmware 6.1.1 and not version 6.2 released recently:

  • RV320 Intermittent connectivity issues

We have been having intermittent problems with internet (WAN) connectivity on my wife's small business computer network.  Connectivity will be fine for a day or so, and then we will have a period of poor and frequently interrupted connectivity.  I have our router (a Cisco RV320K9NA) set to send me notifications about problems, and when our internet connection is disrupted, I receive the following notifications from the router:
    Mar 28 07:31:11 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD FAIL WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:32:11 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD SUCCESS WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:36:05 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD FAIL WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:39:08 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD SUCCESS WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:39:48 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD FAIL WAN[1]
    Mar 28 07:40:58 2015 routeree1df4 Network Log:  NSD SUCCESS WAN[1]
The above is a sample, there are many more notifications of this type in the log.
Our network configuration is as follows:
Our internet provider's cable modem is connected to our router, which is connected to a Netgear ProSafe 24 port switch.  All of our network devices and computers are connected to the switch.
We have tried many things to fix this problem.  Our internet provider (Time Warner) has replaced their cable modem. We have replaced our router.  My wife increased the speed of our network connection based on usage data from the internet provider. I have replaced the ethernet cable between the router and the cable modem.
We have not been able to reproduce the connectivity problem when we directly connect a laptop to the cable modem, so the internet provider has decided that the issue must be internal to our network and/or router, washing their hands of the whole problem.
I'm technically proficient, but I'm no networking technician, so I'm looking for help and suggestions to fix this problem.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions that you can offer.

No, it was wireless. Here is the same test run whilst wired in. I don't understand this though. I wasn't complaining about the speed? I was complaining about the general intermittent connectivity issues we experience, and the regular lack of availability the service provides. Perhaps these are standard tests you have to run beforehand?
The last time I complained about my connectivity issues was in February. If you have access to the ticketing tool, you'll be able to see the nature of my complaint. It was ticket number: VOL051-4263008159178. Something was "done at the exchange" and someone logged onto my HH3 and changed the wireless channel and that "fixed" it. Trouble is, it's been the same ever since. We have a few hours where the connection is stable, then we'll start to get packet losses when trying to connect to sites like Google.co.uk, Bt.com etc etc.
I'm no expert, but this is clearly more than an issue with the wireless channel and some spurious problem at the exchange. This is a continuing nightmare for us which is preventing us from accessing the internet for hours at a time and therefore taking full advantage of the services we pay a lot of money for!

  • Intermittent connectivity issues

So I had a Motorola SB 6120 modem working for over 4 years with Comcast and all of the sudden I start getting intermittent connectivity issues at night (it could be during the day as well, but I am actively working and doing school work at night). The issue comes and goes. I call Comcast and they swear up and down its my modem - which I dont believe since Im the connectivity issues are not fixed by resseting it, just waiting it out. I go ahead and get a new modem (SB6141) and router - spending over $200 and guess what - still having the identical issue. I call in and the support person states that as far as the modem goes everything is fine but the signal is dropping (same issue, two different conclusions after a good amount of arguing on my end and $200 I wont see back). So I tech comes back but I have to be at work and leave my wife and brother in law at home to make sure he comes by. When I get home apparently the tech had stated that "the modem was not correctly registered". That means that my other modem wasnt? And that an uncorrectly registered modem works from time to time? ... Really? So I try to do a live chat since again, I have to work and cant waste my entire day waititing for comcast to fess up and admit their service is the issue. And here is the part of the conversation in which I basically gave up hope on getting anywhere:Akemi: Sometimes if your modem is plugged to Comcast outlet you should be also receiving inetrnet signals, but then becasue if it is not properly registered you will be expriencing intermittent connection.----------------------------------------------------------MARCOS: ok, let me see if i can get itMARCOS: meanwhile, can u tell me how my modem may have been "incorrectly registered" and still working for over 30 daysAkemi: Much appreciated, thank you so much.MARCOS: and how that can be the cause of intermittent issues - since it seems like a lieAkemi: Sometimes if your modem is plugged to Comcast outlet you should be also receiving inetrnet signals, but then becasue if it is not properly registered you will be expriencing intermittent connection.MARCOS: that makes no sense. that modem was not working WHATSOEVER until I called. the modem shouold have been blocked by the MAC addressMARCOS: should*MARCOS: otherwise any1 can get comcast tv, plug in a router from best buy and have internetAkemi: Thanks for the info.---------------------------------------------------------Can someone help? • 10.3.9 Internet issues

    Hi All
i have been trawling through the fourms and still cannot find a solution to my iMac internet issues. I have done a complete format and reinstall of Mac OS X 10.3.9 (to be fair i downloaded update on another computer and instelled via USB stick) everything works great can import into firewire from camcorder etc. Airport card can see the wireless connection but when i enter the password it states there is a problem and connot connect. I have tried everying (to what i can understand anyway) and teh main reason for a clean install was to get rid of any possible conflicts that may have been there.
everything else can use the internet including my MacBook (intel) fine. Some one did suggest once that DNS settings were not correct which to be honest i did not userstand how to alter them, plus if eberying else was ok why just this iMac playing up.
Please can you assist just want to this to connect so my son can upload his filming to pleople for his re school assignments.
    thank you in advance
    Peter

    Oops!
Could you specify what iMac you have, the specs of the system & computer,
as that may help research or find workable ideas for you to try. This would
help in troubleshooting, or in discovering Support articles to link you to in
    the course of a discussion.
I just re-read your post and had thought it was for a later
mac + OS X that would not run in PowerPC vintage!
(The mention of MacBook threw me off, as did a recent newer
OS X upgrade that may run -- in that newer hardware 10.9.3)
    So you've upgraded a PowerPC iMacG4 to Leopard 10.3.9
and the internet doesn't work? The wireless router may be
using a different security protcol than the old Airport Card
can support; you may have to test the unit via Ethernet to
be sure the computer itself is fully updated. It may go to
Apple servers to look for Software Updates.
The settings for the wireless security may be incorrect,
since later WPA2, won't apply to vintage AirPort card.
With a later OS X such as Tiger 10.4(.11) the odds do
improve for connectivity to the internet.
The DNS settings should not be an issue if you can use the
internet with a recent version computer and later OS X.
Not sure how to help, except to try as a test, to run without
the security you'd really want with the wi-fi (WPA2, etc)
turned on, to see if the old iMac can then use it.
Another issue would be the lack of correct frequency; a
newer Wi-Fi system may not be set to be backward
compatible to 802.11a/b, newer ones use 802.11/b/g/n/+
You may check to see if the router has a setting to allow
use of lower or older spec connection.

  • IMac (2007) intermittent power issues

    Hi,
I have a 2007 iMac. I am getting intermittent power issues with it.
One day it wont power up at all...and might not power up for a number of weeks. And just when I have given up on it, it will power up and work for a wee while without any issues (including being shutdown nightly). It'll work for a while and then it'll stop working and again it may take a couple of weeks before it'll start working again.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the issue?
    any help/advise greatly appreciated.

Hi IsMiseAodh - did you ever determine what the cause of intermittent no response to power was?  I have a iMac with a similar problem.  Thanks!

  • Intermittent CFMAIL issue

    Hello, everyone.
I've got an intermittent CFMAIL issue that has me perplexed.
I'm using CFMAIL to email notifications of changes made to records in a database.  In the form that is used to make these changes there is a field that has email addresses of developers who need to be notified of these changes.  These are a comma-delimited list of email addresses (which, according to CF9 cfmail documentation on adobe.com, is the correct way of sending to more than one address.)
Some of the records will send the email, update the timestamp on the "mailsent.log", append the new email notification to "mailsent.log", and the email is received by the person(s) to whom it was sent.
Other records, however, will (apparently) send the email, will NOT update the timestamp on "mailsent.log", but WILL append a successfully sent entry to "mailsent.log" (even though the timestamp was not updated), and the email is NOT received by the person(s) to whom it was sent.  In these cases, the timestamp of the mailsent.log will not match the timestamp of the latest entry in the mailsent.log.
I've been able to determine one record that will always successfully complete the process, and one record that will always append a success entry (not altering the log timestamp) but the email will never reach its destination.  I am not seeing anything in any of the data that could break the transport of the email (it's all plain text, no special characters.)
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thank you,
    ^_^

UPDATE: I just now discovered something that is most likely causing this issue: more than one email address.
If the TO= of CFMAIL is "[email protected]", the email goes out without any issues.
If the TO= of CFMAIL is "[email protected],[email protected]", then the email is not received, the timestamp of the log file is not updated (even though the success message is appended to the log).
According to the docs for CF9 CFMAIL, the TO= field should be either a single email address -OR- a comma-delimited list of email addresses (or a query column that will be treated like a comma-delimited list).
    What could be causing this?
    Thanks,
    ^_^

  • Incessant Internet Issues

    Hi there
It's been a while since I last posted on these forums with an internet issue, but my connection is really messed up. I'll see if I can do the speedtester stuff in between the constant disconnections that I am getting.
My router stats are at the end of this message. Despite the fact my Downstream speed keeps switching between 6Mbps - 7.9Mbps, I am getting around 1.6Mbps, which I expect. The very high number of errors is telling me that my line is really noisy: my parents have told me that the line, when using the phone, was very noisy when calling other people, which would confirm that theory.
I do know that there are some works being done in a plot of land right next to the telephone exchange and I suspect it's BT adding the fibre broadband exchange in preparation of activating fibre in my area by the end of the year, is it possible this is causing line issues ? I know we've also had really bad weather and I'm suspecting this to be a factor in my connection issues.
Many thanks for any help I can get.

the infinity upgrade will have no effect on standard broadband services are you connected to the test socket also have you tried the quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 you should here no noise any noise heard need reporting to BT Faults on 151 with no mention of broadband in the call
I'm not connected to test socket, but I doubt that would make a difference to a noisy line ?
I'll do quiet line test, but my router settings do seem to be indicating the line is noisy. Here's another set of stats from just now.

  • Captivate 6 Output intermittent performance issues

I am getting feedback from users that some of my captivate e-learning is having intermittent performance issues when being run via our LMS. I am hearing of slow down and pausing between slides and questiosn in quizs. I have seen this in action and I cannot pin point what is causing this. The problem doesnt affect most users, then some will report these extreme slow downs.
I have ruled out any specific browser or OS. Does anyone have similar experiences and any ideas around what may be causing it? I want to rule out Captivate if possible and potentially point the finger at our LMS. However I dont know how the content within Captivate is cached/downloaded when being played.
Does anyone know how Captviate operates when run via an LMS. Does it download in full, or buffer content and download progressively as the person moves through the content? If I can work this out I may be able to pinpoint the problem.
Sorry if this is a bit vague, any help or additional experiences would be greatly appreciated.
    Jay

There is also network latency to consider, in addition to server latency.  In our building, network bandwidth availablity can surge or slow down depending on which subnetwork we're on, if there is several VOiP or web video conferencing sessions taking up bandwidth.  If you're distributing to geographically separated organizations, then you may also experience latency issues related to the local infrastructure.
    Just a thought...
