Intermittent iPhoto sync problem

I've had an iPhone 4 for the past 4 months. Recently (around when I upgraded to iLife 2011), iPhoto sometimes does not "see" my iPhone. I'll plug it in, iTunes will open and start to sync, but iPhoto just sits there and the iPhone doesn't pop up in the side bar.
I've found that if I open up Image Capture and let it "scan" the iPhone for photos, iPhoto will recognize the iPhone when Image Capture finishes scanning. This takes about 5 minutes though, and is obviously just a nasty workaround.
Has anybody else experienced intermittent problems with iPhoto sync?
On topic feature request: I find that when iPhoto DOES recognize the device, the sync process is far from automated. It keeps asking me weather or not I want to import photos that have already been imported (why would I ever want to do that!?), and it then asks me if I want to delete photos from the iPhone as it imports. I think the default behavior should be like iTunes music sync. It just "updates" iPhoto with new photos, and leaves everything else alone. It would be nice to see this sync process built into iTunes so I don't have to worry about two applications syncing properly when I plug in my phone.

  • Aperture 3.1.3 and iPhoto sync problems

Upgraded to Aperture 3.1.3. Then upgraded to Lion. Tried to sync my iPhone and it got as far as photo's and got a -50 Sync error. Went to iTunes and turned off photo sync and the phone syn'd perfectly. Went back to iTunes turned photo sync back on, and got an error again. Went to iTunes turned off sync and checked the option to remove my photo's from the phone. Sync worked fine. Turned the photo sync back on, and it errored out when it was trying to reload the pictures. Turned off the Aperture photo sync and changed it to iPhoto. The next sync it reloaded my 1,500 photos without a hitch.
Bottom line: I explained all I have gone through so you can understand that it is not a corrupt photo library on the phone, and iPhoto sync'd fine, so it certainly appears that Aperture is once again the problem.

I am getting the same "Unknown error (-50)" when trying to sync photos from my Aperture 3 library now.
I did not upgrade to Lion (waiting for a 3rd party driver I need to be updated first for it), but I did update iTunes to 10.4 (80) recently and that is when I noticed the issue.
I haven't had this issue before. It syncs everything else but when iTunes goes from "Analyzing Photos" to "Optimizing Photos" in the sync process it reports that it is unable to sync because of an "unknown error (-50)"
To resolve the problem, I tried the following:
I repaired my Aperture library database (using Option+Command when launching Aperture 3).
Deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder inside my Aperture library. It had to resync all my photos again, this time it worked, but the next sync it had the same error again.
Updated my iOS to the latest version.
Did a Repair Disk Permissions on my Mac.
I changed USB cables and ports (using only ports directly on my Mac Pro).
Tried syncing with only iTunes running.
Doing all the above made no difference, I am still getting the error message and it won't sync new photos back to my iPhone 4 now.

  • IPod/iPhoto syncing problem HELP!!

I am writing this in desperation. I tried to sync my 30GB iPhoto library onto my iPod video. iTunes started filling up my hard drive. I had 8GB of free space on my hard drive, and now I have nothing. However 25GB of my iPhoto stuff made it to the iPod. I am wondering - does syncing iPhoto with iPod make iTunes double up the iPhoto? Does it place the entire library in the iTunes folder?
If I freed up more space, and the syncing completed, would the hard drive get back to its original state?` Is iTunes just occupying the space for syncing reasons?
    Please help!! Thanks so much!!!

I am also having this problem with an 80G iPod. Anyone out there with a suggestion?

  • IPhoto Sync Problem

Hi all, I've searched everywhere for an answer to this issue and I couldn't find it, so here it goes
I sync my iPhoto pics with my iPhone and iPad, I have exactly 23 events
The problem is that I have checked "Sync al photos from IPhoto" and I have 18 events with a date as a name, like: "Oct 12, 2012", "Oct 30, 2012" and so on
I don't see this events in iPhoto, they are not hidden or anything
Is this a issue with iPhoto or am I doing something wrong?
    I'm up to date:
    Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    iTunes 11.0.1
    iPhoto 9.4.2
    iOS 6.1 on both devices
    Thanks in advance

    Anyone?
This is really annoying because those events contain photos that aren't in my iPhoto Library
Tried all the options given by the Photo Library First Aid and still the same, the only thing that changed is that now the events are syncing in a different order

  • IPhoto syncing problems iPad

    Hi
I am having trouble syncing my iPad with my iPhoto library. When I try and sync through iTunes only selected photos seem to be synced, i.e. if I choose to sync a specific event not all the photos from the event are synced. For example, a recent event has 44 photos in it and when I sync only about 12 appear on the iPad. If I choose to sync more events the same thing happens. Some events most photos seem to be there and in others some are missing. All the photos are jpgs so my understanding is there should be no problem. Interestingly, if I take the photos and put them in a folder and sync the folder only - not through iPhoto on sync - all the photos come over (obviously not grouped in events). This to me suggests it is something to do with iPhoto indexing. I created the iPhoto databases and thumbnails index but this did not help. I have read that deleting the 'iPod Photo Cache" can help with this, so deleted that - but still no joy. I have read somewhere that the index file in iPhoto has limit (256mb or something) - i have 10,000 photos in my library so maybe this is the problem. I am not trying to sync all the photos just some events so space on the iPad (32GB) cannot be a problem. Please help? Bernie

Just checking to make sure that you did follow this procedure .... I copied this from one of my other posts and I'm merely double checking that you did restart the iPad after you tried this ....
Follow the instructions here to delete the iPod Photo cache and see if that helps.
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    Now try syncing.
I have seen posters with more photos than you are trying to sync have success with this procedure so I don't think that the number of photos is the problem. You stated that creating a new folder and syncing the photos works that way so that proves to me that it isn't the number of photos that is causing the issue.
The only other suggestions I can think of are to create new names for the events using the same photos and try syncing that way. The other suggestion would be to delete your backup and try to the sync the photos.

  • Iphoto syncing problem

I can't sync iPhoto on my MaBbookAir with iPad because iTunes says "can't find necessary file"

    HI,
If you have moved the iPhoto application from the Application folder, that could be why it won't sync.
From your Finder menu click Go / Applications. That will open the Applications folder automatically. Make sure iPhoto is there.
If it's not, click the Spotlight magnifying glass icon top right corner of your screen. Type in: iPhoto.
Press Return or Enter on your keyboard. That should tell you where it's located on the hard drive.

  • HT5129 MobileMe - iPhoto sync problem

I have multiple iPhoto libraries. Every time I open one of them I get this message which does not allow any option to cancel.  I expressly don't want to download all my previously stored images from MobileMe to each of my iPhoto libraries.  Can someone tell me how to turn this feature off.  It is driving me crazy.

    Anyone?

  • Iphoto syncing problem w/iphone 4s after ios 7.0.2 upgrade

I synced my iphone (4s w/ios 7) with Macbook and it was able to upload hundreds of photos but won't recognize some 300 more.  When trying to resync a different time, iphoto on Macbook doesn't register seeing any photos on my phone.
    THoughts?

Try performing a hard reset (holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo appears) or connect to your computer with iTunes to see if that will boot it up.

  • Iphone and iphoto syncing problems

Ive been importing my photos to my mac to clear up some space on my iphone, however every time my photos get moved on my mac, they somehow sync back onto my iphone as an album called "Events - From my mac" & "Last 12 months" which puts every photo i had just imported from my phone, back onto my phone. The problem is, these albums are 'un-deletable.' I initially thought it was my icloud but i turned off all my photo streams and what not so i dont think its that.. can anyone pls help me??! :-(

It could be that it is doing a sync from iTunes. Start iTunes with the phone connected, click on the phone under devices in the left pane of iTunes and then click on Photos in the list across the top and look to see what you have selected to sync. If you want to delete all of the synced albums on the phone, remove the checkmark in front of "Sync Photos From" on that page and sync again; if you want to delete some, change the selection and sync again. Each time you sync via iTunes it sets the non-Camera Roll photos on the phone to match the current settings in iTunes.

  • IPhoto Sync Problems

I have about 500 photos on my iPad, finished by iPhoto for iOs. But I find no way to get these photos to my MacBook - I always get the Originals. Does anybody know what to do?
    Thanx a lot
    Claudia

I was afraid it is like this. But what is the sense of having a great app like iPhoto for the iPad and not getting the pictures back ... And I hoped there would be another tip than sending 500 photos via email! Nevertheless: thank you for the link.

  • Sync Problem with iPod Touch and Apple TV relating to iPhoto

I have recently recovered from a crash and has to restore everything from my time machine.
I have an iPod touch that syncs with my itunes and therefore with my iPhoto.
Same thing with my Apple TV syncing via itunes with my iPhoto.
After the restore. I have this message:" itunes cannot sync photos to the Apple TV because of a problem on your computer. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
Previously I got the same message when syncing iPod touch with iPhoto. Then I opened iPhoto package content and remove the iPod Photo cache. that solves my iPod touch sync problem.
How can I sync with Apple TV again?

I believe you need to reset the Sync services data. Assuming your data on the Mac is correct (or correctable), try this:
    1. If it is easy enough to do, clean up iCal. There are AppleScripts and other tools on the Internet to do this.
    2. Save a copy of you calendar. Just in case. (File, Back up iCal...)
    3. Exit iCal.
    4. Start iSync.
    5. Preferences, Reset Sync History. (If it is greyed out, wait a few minutes.)
    6. Quit iSync.
    7. Start iTunes and plug in your iPod.
    8. Select your iPod and go to the Info tab.
    9. Make sure you have the correct Calendars selected. At the bottom, under Advanced, under Replace information on this iPod, select Calendars.
    10. Sync.
    That should do it.
Normally, the fiddling with iSync should clear things up, so you can try just that, and syncing, but since your have a messed up situation, I'd go through all these steps once.

  • IOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?

iOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times per community advice have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?
"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

  • Itunes 10.2.2.12 - All Itunes 10 Version Sync problems

I am using Windows XP PC latest service pack, I have  a newer 5th Gen 16GB Ipod Nano, I now have the latest Itunes 10.2.2.12. Every since I have had this newer Ipod Nano, and with first version of Itunes 10, nothing but syncing problems. After calling  Apple Ipod Tech Support, and scouring Apple Help screens and forums, just like Apple Tech Support reps, the recommendation is mostly the same, they have me go through the grueling, time consuming process of Uninstalling and Re-installing Itunes, which I have done many times, sometimes it would help in syncing, many times not. Also tried other Apple support recommendation tricks with Apple Mobile Device too, and even upgraded to a Higher speed USB Port, again it would sync for a while and then eventually would start having same sync problems again, even after updating to the latest Itunes. Errors: Itunes is Unable to locate Ipod attached, or The required folder cannot be found.
When exactly will Apple tech Support put out a New Fully Stable Itunes Version to correct and remove these problems that occur over and  over again, with so many Ipod users online?? I am getting so frustrated, that I am looking for Itunes and even Ipod better alternatives to avoid these big time consuming headaches. Anybody have a Full solution, or at least somewhat permanent Solution to these Ipod sync Errors?? Thanks for your time.

well i'm running iTunes same vsn on a brand new iMac i7 2.93GHz and i'm constantly having to wait while the old beach ball of death appears. it usually only halts normal operation for 15 to 40secs but thats ridiculous enough. i've got 16Gb of DRAM and even with no other apps running this happens - and it happens about every 3 mins or so. crazy.
    9037 songs in the library.
i guess this is better than iPhoto 9 which crashed and refuses to boot full stop, in spite of several re-instals.
and i thought the new world of apple was gonna be rosy. hmmmm.

  • .Mac sync problem

I can't sync my computer with my .Mac account. When I go to "System Preferences"->".Mac"->"Sync", the computer just sits there and I won't be able to go into the "Sync" option. I can't access the "Advanced" option in this window neither, however the "iDisk" and "Account" options are accessible.
I don't know if this related with my iSync problem reported also in this forum.
    Thanks in advance.

Replying to myself as the one long discussion about recent .Mac sync problems has been locked!!
Just to say that NOW .Mac on the web says:
".Mac sync services are currently intermittently unavailable to some users. Changes made to synced information will be reflected when the problem is resolved. All other .Mac services are unaffected.
    Last Updated: 6/1/06"
So the MANY people who have been posting problems in the last 24+ h MAY find it resolves and is not their end. But, customer care suggestion to apple:
    - IF you think .Mac syncing has a problem POST the info IMMEDIATELY
    - Possibly even email .Mac members as many use sync all the time without logging on the .Mac web services
The time and stress (cand cost) spent by many trying to fix their own syncing is frustrating. I have spent several hrs over the last 24h unregistering, registering, syncing manually, resetting from different Macs, doing it item by item...finding a glimmer of hope when on one occasion Mail synced and on another so did contacts, only for .Mac login failures to continue...This has clearly been replicated by a large number of other frustrated customers from the other postings on this over the last day.
