Intermittent jitter/lag when gaming (PC)

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could help... I seem to experience intermittent jitter/lag in games, my average ping is around 70 which I already think is relatively high, this can fluctuate to 120-150 on regular occasions. The majority of the time after gaming for a while it seems the jitter/ping increases to an almost unplayable level, this doesn't ever seem to subside until I restart my router. I've read many of the posts on here previously about jitter/ping but none seem to directly relate to this issue. The problems started when I moved house and joined Sky Fibre... Previously I had been living at another address with BT and had no problems (this isn't an aside about Sky vs BT) I'm just trying to isolate the issues. At my old address I was pretty close to the exchange - about 20m I'd say but this shouldn't make a difference to jitter/ping to such an extent I assume? My PC is relatively new (1 year old) its not ailing or full of random junk as a computer collects with time and like I say I had no issues at a previous address. It's hard to capture the exact moments my connection goes but I've been using pingtest.net, most of the time I will get a ping of around 15ms Jitter 4-6ms and B*/A rating, however I did measure it once at around ping 50ms jitter 40-50 and line quality of D. I'm using a cabled connection from the router to the PC. Below are my current router statistics, as I say its hard to catch it when it happens, as the intervals are probably hourly but if anyone could help with a plan to getting to a solution that would be great. Thanks, Paul. Router StatisticsSystem Up Time: 68:11:30PortStatusTxPktsRxPktsCollision PktsTx b/sRx b/sUp TimeWANMER42202405360228790949993243760068:10:14LANUp836050495161250610058949632368:11:30WLANUp32020824300002279222668:11:06Broadband LinkDownstreamUpstreamConnection Speed40000 kbps9999 kbpsLine Attenuation8.3 dB0.0 dBNoise Margin17.8 dB13.13 dB

I have the same issue when im gaming on My xbox one, I too moved house and since then its just bad. • Noticeable lag when streaming despite correct equipments

    Using the following
    MBP Late 2011
    Apple TV (3rd Gen)
    ASUS Dual Band Router RT-N56U
Apple TV is connected via Ethernet Cabe to ASUS Router.
MBP is connected to ASUS Router wirelessly, 5ghz frequency.
Despite the correct and recommended connection, I still noticed there is some lag when I Airplay from MBP to my TV, especially videos that I am streaming on the MBP (i.e. playing online videos on Chrome)
On the other hand, perfect streaming when I use iPhone/iPad to stream YouTube or Vimeo videos (I believe this is due to the native apps in the Apple TV itself)
Am I missing something here? Or does the Internet speed connection is part of the reason? I am using a 25mbps cable internet. I know its not the most optimal internet speed in recent years but if the video is downloaded and streaming perfectly while playing on the MBP, why is it still lag when Airplay over to Apple TV?

this is my personal opinion as a guy who had more than 5 pcs, 4 gaming laptops and other mac books for work in the past.
I believe it is slightly an older model of Toshiba you are using, your drawing tablet relies on your Ram but not as much as it relies on your GPU which would be the graphics card processor. So none of those upgrades will give you a significant change on things you want to do.
I would rather suggest you a newer model for the things you do with your budget than getting rams for your computer. Both of you are processor and graphics card.
If you want to upgrade, Ram is your cheapest option, but check out the slots, usually they have 2 slots, and 2 x 2GB on them, so if you buy a 4GB , you get 6. DDR II is kinda out of date with current programs and software, keep that in consideration aswell.
I do not think any upgrade you spend money on will give you the speed you want to feel.

  • Noticeable lag when using drawing tablet, streaming video, and simple games

Hi, I'm using a Toshiba Satellite Laptop model A335D-S69221. There is a noticeable lag when using my drawing tablet, streaming videos (such as youtube), and games that are not  "fast" such as This War of Mine and Don't Starve. All drivers and the system is newly wiped and up to date.  When visiting web pages if there are embedded videos it causes a whole system lag until it either asks me to stop script or I close the page.  Colors and graphics look just fine.  No problem playing fully downloaded videos. The programs themselves work just fine and the lag only happens with the above mentioned activities.  Not a virus.
Is this an issue that can be solved by increasing the RAM from 4GB to 6GB or 8GB?  Or is it an issue with the graphics card?  I suspect RAM but don't want to shell money on the wrong thing. Most of the programs say 4GB is required but it almost seems bare minimum.  Is my laptop even worth upgrading?
Unfortunately it takes away my ability to draw and makes gaming progress annoyingly slow.  Once the lagging action is complete it works ok but just repeats.

  • Scoll Lagging FF7.0.1: fine in safe mode, continues to lag when not even when extensions and plug-ins are disabled (reinstalled, problem continues)

a few days ago, all web pages started to lag when scrolling. Tried safe mode and speed was restored. returned to normal mode and disabled all plug-ins and extension, however, there was no effect upon the scroll lagging. performed a complete Kaspersky virus check with no issues. Other programs on desktop (ex: outlook) are running concurrently at speed without issue. IE is not running with scroll lag.
Oh, BTW, I don't know if it is related, but I was in China last week. and Only noticed this scroll lagging here in the US when I opened it this morning ... so, perhaps there is a site preference issue?

If it boots OK in Safe Mode, the you want to check those possible causes outlined in this article.

  • Computer lags when playing games.

    Hi folks.
I have a problem with my computer, several in fact.
    1. Computer lags when playing games(Battlefield/Desert Combat) even on lowest video settings, especially when there is a lot of action.
    2. When I open "My Computer" it searches for 3-5 minutes before files appear, but when opening "my documents" for example, it opens it without any delay.
    3. Startup is fast but when logging on, computer hangs for a couple of minutes, before completing log on.
Is there anyone who can help me out???
      plz help

Hi NovJoe, thanks for the reply. Nice rig by the way.
Ive disabled all programs except essential windows programs in Task Manager, it didnt help.
Ive changed to new drivers, uninstalled them, changed to older drivers, tried 7 different drivers.
VGA card is running cold, CPU is on 40 cel. under full load, RAM is cool as well. PSU isnt running hot either.
Even checked the chipset, and thats cool also. I switched cabinets and that helped a bit(different PSU).
Now I only have problems with the lagging when playing.
So now Ive ordered a new PSU and mobo (MSI 865PE NEO2-V) I have a feeling its the VGA slot thats not giving me enough power to the VGA card.
And the new PSU is just so cool I had to have it. When Ive complete the build Ill post pics on the forum.
Anyways, Ill let you guys know if this will solve my problem.

    Hi rhaughan,
I see that you have concerns about your operating temperature of your computer while using resource-heavy applications such as gaming applications. I have an article that will address some of the concerns you have mentioned:
Mac notebooks: Operating temperature - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-is/HT201640
While there are third-party utilities that measure the temperature of a notebook computer, it is important to understand that these utilities are not measuring the external case temperature. The actual case temperature is much lower. Never use third-party applications to diagnose possible hardware issues—instead, contact Apple or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
You should also see this article for even further information about your fans:
Learn about the fans in your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

I'm going to guess videos buffer for a while also...
Two possibilities, one is you should close apps on the iPad, the other is your internet speed is not able to handle the demands of a high speed device.
To close apps:   Double click home button, swipe up to close the apps.
To solve internet problem, contact your provider.   Basic internet is not enough for video games and movies.   Your router may be old and slow.

  • Infopath form for sharepoint 2013 lags when searching for person or group.

    Dear all,
After implementing a infopath form on sharepoint, the search for person or group column lags when I search for someone the second time. (The first time won't lag). Is there a fix to this? And is there a way to modify the search for person or group function

  • Lag when system sounds play on Retina MacBook Pro

I have a problem on my Retina Macbook Pro (Mid 2012, running on 10.9 Mavericks) that has persisted for quite some time.
Essentially the problem is that whenever an application plays a system sound, the application lags for a few seconds. However, this comes and goes.
For an example of what I mean, the lag happens when I make the following actions:
    - Deleting a file in Finder (Trash sound should play)
    - Using a 'find' prompt in an app like Chrome, Xcode, TextEdit, and entering a string that cannot be found. That is, the lag occurs when I type the character that causes no result to be found. (Beep should play)
    - Pressing 'delete' (backspace) in any app's text field with no text present (Beep should play)
    - If I go to System Preferences -> Sound, and select a new 'alert sound' in the Sound Effects tab, the lag occurs and the Console prints "System Preferences[52828]: Error 268435460 setting AlertSound"
While my computer is in 'problem' mode, every single app is guaranteed to lag when these events happen.
But as I said, the problem comes and goes. It first happened after I had to reinstall one day. I think I screwed something up with preferences, permissions and such, because it took a while for me to fix everything up. But I don't think I quite fixed everything, because this problem started to occur ever since then.
The problem will appear for days or weeks at a time and then disappear for weeks. Just now I'm posting this thread because it had actually gone away for months, and just reappeared today. Nothing that I have found can explicitly start or stop this problem from occurring, it's seemingly random.
Does anybody have any idea why this would occur, and what can be done to fix it other than a complete clean reinstall?
    Thanks!

Sorry wrong post to this thread.
    Now the right post.
No OS X can not use all 8GBs of RAM when the Windows Virtual Machine is running. As long as the Win VM is up and running it take all the RAM you allocated to it. So if you allocated 2GBs of RAM to the VM OS X can only use the other 6GBs. As for the CPUs OS X can use all the cores and or Virtual core as all current Intel CPUs show as double the physical number of cores. So if you have a Dual Core i5 it will look like you have 4 cores. It's done with HyperThreading.

  • How to fix iPad that has a green screen and lags when you try watching videos

How do you fix your iPad when it has a green screen and it lags when you try to watch videos, such as from YouTube?
I tried to watch YouTube on Safari but it does not work, and the app version of YouTube does not work either. When the video is playing, it will start to turn green, and it will lag.
Please, I would really appreciate it if you can help me, because I really want to watch videos again.
    Thank you very much!

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't help it is most likely a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an apple store to have the device examined by a technician.

  • [SOLVED] Windows lag when moved...?

Using Xfce, with and without composite, the windows lag when being moved. It's like the whole window isn't held together properly; the window movement is kind of choppy, but still smooth, if that makes any sense.
This makes for a rather bad experience. And I'm clueless as to what causes this. It's certainly not my HW:
    CPU: i5-2500k
    GPU: GTX 460
    RAM: 8GB, 1600mhz
Also, even more disturbing, is that when moving a window there seems, if you look closely enough, to be a white after-effect where text and the pointer was a few moments ago. As an example: If I grab a window and move it in a small circle, this happens.
    Any ideas? Running nuts here...

Okay I'll try but I can't guarantee the completeness. Here are all the steps I managed to recollect:
    First install:
    compiz, compiz-decorator-gtk, ccsm, compiz-fusion-plugins-main
the decorator and plugins are somewhat optional but will provide you with gtk window borders and more options.
then edit the following paragraph in /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml
    <property name="Client0_Command" type="array">
    <value type="string" value="compiz"/>
    <value type="string" value="ccp"/>
    </property>
(This replaces xfwm4 with compiz as the default window manager for Xfce)
    Then after running
    sudo nvidia-xconfig
add the following line to the "Device" section within /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
    also add
    nvidia-settings -l
    to your autostart.
Now open up ccsm and within "General Options" on the tab "Display Settings":
tick the option for "Sync to VBlank"
UNtick the option "Detect refresh rate"
drag the slider for the refresh rate to match the refresh rate of your display (60 Hz in my case)
Go back to the main page of ccsm and open "Window decoration". Insert the following line into the "command" field:
    gtk-window-decorator --replace
(This will provide you with your gtk borders on compiz otherwise you would have to use emerald)
On the main page of ccsm tick "Move windows" under "Window Management". (Otherwise you won't be able to move windows around at all)
Restart your system and it should load compiz now. If compiz is acting funny you can always temporarily switch back to xfwm by running "xfwm4 --replace".
Note that you will have the best video experience with mplayer (no GUI).
Consider using vdpau as video output with the corresponding codecs if you don't plan to play 10bit H264 videos, otherwise stick to xv.

  • Scroll lag when viewing PDF files

    Hey everyone.
I've searched all over the internet for an answer to this question, but it seems every answer is "your computer can't handle large files". I recently had my hard drive crash a few weeks ago (I use a 2008 MacBook) and I bought a new SSD. On my old hard drive, my scrolling was fine in Adobe Reader. It was very smooth and almost zero lag for any size file. Now, no matter what size file there is always this choppiness and lag when I scroll. However, I use LaTeX for my math work, and when I run my code the PDF's view very smoothly, like it did on my old hard drive. I'm not sure what my settings were on Adobe Reader before my computer crashed, but I've looked at all the preference settings and nothing seems related to my issue. I have this problem when viewing in Safari and outside Safari. It can't be performance related because I have more free space on my SSD now, and I upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4GB when my HDD crashed. I've tried using Adobe Reader X and XI, but they give the same results. Can anyone help with the issue?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
