Intermittent loss of internet connection on Homehu...

Hi Everyone
I have recently taken out a new contract with BT and connected my new Homehub 4 on the 14th February.  Seemly it was okay for at least 5 days then I started to experience some intermittent loss of internet on all of the devices, i.e PC, laptop, xbox, it effected both wired and wireless.  The hub was showing orange light, which then prompt me to press the reset/restart button on top of the hub.
I have try out my old Homehub 1 for 3 days to see if it effected that one too, but the hub 1 was perfect in term of no loss of connection for 3 day.
Then I connect homehub 4 again on Fri 28th February it was okay for a day, except on 1st march in the morning hub seem to disconnect/reconnect itself. Then around 2310 pm I have loss all connection to the internet through all of my devices again.
Does anyone know what this problem is?  It is to do with BT-Wifi Fon, or is the hub 4 faulty and need replacing?
Many Thanks

It was orange central broadband light, there were no other light showing on the silver part.
I have not tried test socket yet, however, I did have a new master socket and line replaced couple year ago, so it would have the new faceplate on there. Plus, the external line etc must be working since hub 1 was working perfectly.
Here the information from speed test

  • Intermittent loss of internet connection

Stuck with a weird problem that developed yesterday on my SL iMac, where the internet cuts out every few minutes. It just started happening all of a sudden, even though the connection was fine all day. I tried shutting down, and cleaning out the caches (using "Cache Out X" app), but that did not solve it. When I try to load a page in Firefox or Safari, it just takes a long time to load and remains blank - no internet error message or anything. I am connected on wifi via AirPort. But this is not a problem with the modem or anything. Because while it happens, I can still connect via wifi on my iPhone. Furthermore, network prefs tells me I AM still connected via wifi! But when it happens, I can not ping out (via Terminal).
The problem is solved when I turn AirPort off, then on again. But then it restarts about 3 minutes later.

Before you do anything with the Mac reset the modem and router, yes even if your other devices connect fine. Then double check to see if the router has the most up-to-date firmware. If the problems persist pelase look at the More Like This link to your right.

  • Unexpected shutdowns and loss of internet connectivity on brand new 420t

    Hi,
I was experiencing unexpected shutdowns (would see safe mode choices when turned PC back on) and also intermittent internet connectivity issues.
    To Fix:
In device manager, I turned off the option in the Realtek Network Controller Power management tab to allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
It's been working like a charm so far (2 days). I'm not so sure HP should be building PCs with this option set. There are no updates that I haven't installed either. PC still sleeps (can see nic lights go off) and wakes up just fine.
Other that that we really like this PC...Beats Audio wasn't impressive with only the internal speakers, then I tried a good set of external tweeters and a subwoofer and then it was realized.
    Hope this helps someone.

    Troy,
Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like you've heard that others have had this problem. Is that right?
And are you suggesting that the kernel panics and the loss of Internet connection are related? They often happen independently of one another.

  • Loss of internet connectivity after upgrading to windows 8.1

Hi, After upgrading to windows 8.1 from windows 8 i am experiencing major problems , loss of internet connectivity for no reason both I.E. and G/CHROME are now taking an age to open there are no virus issues as far as i can see.
I have uninstalled and re-installed  windows 8.1 about four times over the past 9 months or so and the same thing happens after all the updates are in it runs like a dream for say 6weeks or so then i get the same faults as described above then i uninstall/ re-install ok for 6 weeks .
I would apprieate any help or advice thanks

    Hi @BMATH
    Thank you your query.
I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 about every 6 weeks you loose wireless connectivity for no reason  and the web pages are very slow to open.  If you uninstall and reinstall Windows 8.1 it works fine again for about the same amount of time.  You have done this about 4 times with the same result each time.
Do you know if there is any changes at that time , perhaps an update?
You stated you do not believe you have any viruses.  Just to be sure here are two links that will help confirm that.

  • Vexing intermittent loss of Internet

For about six weeks now I have been experiencing a troubling intermittent loss of Internet service. It's like on, off, on, off, on, off, etc. It changes minute to minute. I click on a link and get a message saying the web site can't be reached, try reloading.
Then I'll click on the link and Internet is back. Three or four minutes later its on again, then off again, etc.
I'm on my third or fourth modem/wireless router, the last one being installed by a Verizon tech. When the problem continued they sent another tech who replaced my ONT. Still the problem persists.
This loss of Internet occurs when using my hard wired desktop and wireless laptops used  by me and others in the house.
Don't know what to do next except maybe go back to Cablevision.
We're talking northern Westchester County, N.Y.

I'm sorry you are having difficulty. An agent with access to your account will reach out to you directly by email, private message in the Forums and/or the billing telephone number on your Verizon account for more information or to help you resolve your issue.

  • Sporadic Rotating Loss of Internet Connection for Just Some Devices

    Hi,
We've been having a problem where one or two of our devices (phones, laptops, iPads, Apple TV) lose internet connection for 10-30 sec at a time, while the others are fine.
As best as I can tell it's a full loss of connection, not just something running very slowly due to us pushing the bandwidth limits. I've experienced the latter elsewhere and this manifests very differently. It will instantly and fully disconnect a person from an online game or drop a skype call without the accompanying prolonged lag or distortion of bottlenecked bandwidth.
It happens at all times of day, and does not seem related to our peak times of bandwidth usage, nor the general public's peak times of usage.
We should have enough bandwidh for our usage, and usually we do. Our system is 25/25 Mbps and during our peak use at most we would probably have 1 laptop gaming, 1 HD video stream, and 2 non-HD streams. However, like I said before, the problem seems unrelated to overall bandwidth usage. The same problem occurs even at midnight when our local usage is minimal.
Overall we have 6 laptops, 5 phones, an iPad, 2 microcell signal boosters, and Apple TV, in total connected to the FiOS. We have a property with tenants where the signal is distributed via 3 WiFi routers and one direct ethernet cable to my laptop, and one to the Apple TV.
It happens on devices that are both connected through the WiFi (wife's laptop, phones, iPad) and ethernet (my laptop, Apple TV). It can happen with devices that are a few unobstructed feet from the WiFi router. However, it anecdotely seems to happen more on our phones than laptops.
My hunch is it is something outside our local network. This is because our equipment  and usage has basically remained unchanged over the last couple months. (We got one new microcell tower for a different carrier, one new wifi router, but overall same # of people and patterns of usage.) And yet the problem seems to be getting worse. Back in probably early November I don't remember this problem occuring at all.
My second best guess is there are more devices connected to the network than it can handle simultaneously, and it rotates which gets kicked off. Maybe this was occuring before but we didnt realize it.
My third guess is it has to due with signal interference with the various WiFi routers and microcell boosters. However, this seems less likely since it also affects devices connected via ethernet cables.
Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated! Thanks!
    -Ned

Ok, so in the mean time we decided to upgrade our service so I've only tried this solution now.
My problem though now is I can log into 192.168.1.1, then give my verizon admin password, and then set my channel preference. That seems fine for changing the main network input and wifi router (call it A).
However, we have another wifi router (call it B) which is fed from A via a cable. I cannot figure out how to change B's wifi channel. Therefore I worry if we have only switched A, since A feeds B (as well as the 2 microcells) they will all still be on the same channel and therefore still interfering with each other.
I have tried www.routerlogin.net (and .com) as written on my netgear router and I get "http://searchassist.verizon.com/" telling me "Sorry, We could not find www.routerlogin.net". I have also tried logging into wifi router B via all the 192.168.1.X addresses I see listed on the Verzion account when I log in via 192.168.1.1 (in total I tried all the 192.168.1.[1-24] options).
    Thanks for the help!

  • IChat causes loss of internet connection

I keep losing my internet connection when using iChat (video).
About a month ago I started having intermittent problems with my Comcast cable modem connection. I would lose the connection to the internet, requiring power-cycling the modem to regain it. At its worst, it happened 5x a day, but usually it was once a day. Then I'd go for a long stretch of days with no problems.
More recently my iChat experience degraded. In an hour's chat, I would lose the internet connection 3-4 times.
A few days ago I finally had time to drive the modem to a Comcast office to get it replaced. That same weekend I upgraded my MacBook to Snow Leopard. The internet connection has been solid ever since -- except during the iChat I had yesterday.
I lost the connection four times, but now the modem finds it again without requiring power cycling.
I only use iChat with one other person (my sister, also on Comcast, across the country), so I can't do extensive testing. My sister uses iChat weekly with my parents (video iChat, also using Comcast, in the same town as I am, using a 2009 iMac) and they have no problems.
At the end of the most recent chat, I downgraded the speed to 200kbps. The sound was worse (very muddy) and the picture wasn't as good. I didn't lose the connection, but it generally takes about 10 minutes to fail, and we didn't chat that long at the reduced connection speed. So I can't really say if that helped.
I suspect this is a Comcast problem, but I'm not sure. Their bandwidth caps and hardware "upgrades" have caused all sorts of headaches for me in the past, and there seems to be no way to get accurate information out of them. I have no idea if they're capping my speed, degrading my service, or what.
I'm posting here in the hopes that there is some unknown setting or other trick that I can use in iChat to solve this problem. It's unusable as-is, and very frustrating because it used to be better (and because my parents have no problems).

Whoops, I forgot to add that we're both using MobileMe and Airport Extremes. My sister is wireless and I've tried it both ways (no difference).
The iChat error message that appears when the internet connection is lost and the chat fails is something about "no data received in 10 seconds". The following is the only iChat-specific console log data I could find:

  • Frequent loss of internet connection

Here's the situation, hope someone can help.
We have four Macs in the house, all accessing the internet (at various times) through a Linksys wireless router. We have no difficulties with internet access on the iBook G4, MacBook, or MacBook Pro. Our iMac G4, over the past few months, has had an increasingly frequent problem with the internet connection dropping out.
The issue is intermittent and unpredictable. At times, we used to be able to surf for an hour or two with no problem. Other times, we wake the computer up and it will not connect. Yet other times, it will work for five or ten or twenty minutes then drop out completely. The most frequent scenario is the internet connection working for fifteen or twenty minutes then dropping out. The problem is becoming more frequent. In the past week or so, we have been unable to use the iMac on the internet for more than a half hour or so without losing the connection.
When the internet drops out, the airport icon on the menu bar shows a connection to the router. If we run the network diagnostics, everything is green except for the actual connection to the internet. The laptops can access the internet through the same router without issue when the iMac has lost internet access.
When the problem first appeared, we could turn Airport off and then on and the internet connection would come back. That has stopped working. A few times, running through the network diagnostics has done something (??) and the connection resumes. This morning, I had to restart the computer to get the connection back. I am to the point of praying over it while randomly clicking on diagnostic-looking buttons. I'm thinking about waving a chicken over it while chanting something as my next trick. Sadly, I am the most Mac-adept person in the house.
We have reset and/or restarted the modem with no luck. We have plenty of disk space left. Everything else on the computer works fine. When the iMac can access the internet, it works great. I added memory and upgraded to Leopard within the past year.
Given that the iMac shows a good connection to the router, I don't think that is the problem. Given that the other computers can surf happily while the iMac can't suggests it isn't a problem with the internet connection itself. I truly have no idea where to look or what to try.
Can someone please please please help? I've always had such good luck on these forums. I am at wits end and am dealing with some frustrated folks here in the house.
    Thank you!!
    Deanna

    Hi,
Our iMac G4, over the past few months, has had an increasingly frequent problem with the internet connection dropping out.
Try changing the G5 Airport channel.
    Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the device you’re setting up on the elft and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the G4.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support uninstall and itunes install causes loss of internet connection

Whenever I uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS)  I lose my internet connection. The only way to fix this is to restore Windows to a previous state. I've tried  troubleshooting my internet connection when this happens but Windows tells me something is wrong with both my wired and wireless connection drivers... and of course I need the internet to fix said drivers :s
I've tried repairing AMDS and this doesn't help either.
I've been trying to download itunes but it tells me a program needed to install it cannot be run. After this I can't get back on the internet without first restoring windows to a previous state. I thought that uninstalling everything apple from my system would do the trick but I can't seem to uninstall AMDS without messing up my internet drivers. What else can I try?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • HT201364 I am not able to download OS X Mavericks after the download process was aborted by loss of internet connectivity momentarily.

I tried to download OS X Mavericks from the APPS store abd it was downloading ok. But after 3.4 GB of data transfer, internet connectivity was lost with message "an error has occurred". Tried to again initiate the download but now downloading is not taking place and I am getting continous error of "an error has occured". Please give procedure to resolve this issue. My current OS is Mountain Lion (10.7.5).

Please start your own thread for individual attention.
Explain your problem and indentify which Mac you have and which version of OS X it is using.

  • 10.7.4 causing hangs and loss of internet connection

Since the update I have had applications hanging and crashing. Mostly Mail, iTunes, and Safari.  What is more annoying however is when the computer is inactive for an hour or so, I lose internet connectivity and have to shut down and reboot in order to get it back. I am on a wired connection and sharing another wired connection through the second ethernet port. Has anyone had these issues? It seems like 10.7.4 really messed with my machine...

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Loss of Internet connection after software upgrade

After carrying out a software upgrade last weekend which included iTunes 10.4.1, Remote Desktop 3.5.1 I'm finding that my internet connection stalls and the iMac hangs after unspecified periods of time.  Sometimes I can carryout a restart, other times I require a hard reset to get the iMac running again.
All will be fine and then once again Internet will stop working and eventually the iMac will hang again.
I've tried a number of actions to see what's going on, there are no processes hung or taking up huge ammounts of CPU.  If I try to refresh the IP address of the Ethernet connection from the router this is possible, but you still can't browse to a page.
I've also tried deleting some of the .plist info from the System Prefs area and having Lion re-build them but that hasn't worked either.
My next thought was a complete re-build of Lion from scratch, but before I start down that road, has anyone any other ideas?
    System specs are;
    iMac 2.8GHz C2Duo
    4GB Ram
    Running Lion 10.7.1
    Many thanks,
    Stuart.

    Hi Larry,
If you go to Control Panel -> Network Connections (For Vista and Windows 7: Network and Sharing Center) -> Double click on your Network Adaptor (Vista and 7: Top left hand corner of the Network and Sharing Center, click on 'Change Adaptor Settings' and double click on your adaptor. Click Properties and scroll down to 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP /IPv4), click Properties and make sure that 'Obtain an IP Address automatically' and Obtain DNS server address automatically' are ticked. Click Ok, then OK, then finally close. Check to see if you have connectivity. If you don't, go to start, in Run (Or in the search bar) type 'cmd'. Once Command Prompt opens, type 'ipconfig /flushdns'. Close Command Prompt and check again. If you still don't have Internet connectivity, go to Internet explorer and click Tools -> Internet Options (If you have Internet Explorer 7 or 8, press Alt before looking for tools. This will make the bar appear). Go to the Connections Tab and click on 'Lan Settings'. Make sure that you do not have 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' ticked. Also make sure that you have 'Automatically Detect Settings' ticked. Once you have done this, click Ok, Apply and Ok and check again for connectivity. If this didn't resolve your problem please post back
    Sorry for the long answer
    Cheers

  • Email accounts lockout along with loss of internet connection

email accounts (2) constantly being locked out with messages advising 'failed internet connection'. Address bar freezes when typing in web addresses and internet drops out/ freezes after a while when veiwing webpage. Server advises all connections are good and that I should contact Apple re Mac settings!! Any suggestions welcome please.

Thanks for that. I have done this previously but the problem reoccurs. The issue is intermitent so it is difficult to know if the problem still exists until it fails again.I had spoken to my server ( Fri 3 ) and the emails were working ok ( typing into the browser address bar froze at the time though ) and then today (Sat ) the emails went down again and the internet dropped out when veiwing webpages.

  • LOSS OF INTERNET CONNECTION

Please help me, I am close to a nervous breakdown!
I had an internet connection once, I would lose the connection occassionally, but had no problem reconnecting. Now it has gone completely! (1 month and counting!)
Thought it might be a router problem, so brought a new one. I now have 2 routers, 2 lots of leads, 3 ethernet cables, 5 filters....still cant connect.
Take equipment round to my friends house, connect first time no problems, using all leads router etc etc. Still cant connect at my house!
Friend brings laptop round (PC rubbish) connects and surfs no problem, thru my router or the usb modem supplied by tiscali (usb modem wont work on mac) Ring Bt, no problems with line (get green light for telephone connection on router, but no green light for internet) Ring tiscali, again no problem with connection) Its not hard using DHCP, email address & password, router seems to try to connect, only error code I recieve is CHAP protocol error.....my Mac not talking to there server....I think!
Network connection on mac gives me 3 green lights for ethernet, network, ISP, but 2 red lights for internet and server!!!
Have rebuilt the machine 3 times, dump prefs, dumped caches, smu reset, everything I can think off!
I can see from the forum that there are a lot of people out there with similar problems, Any ideas please? Be gentle, new to mac's

Can you draw a schematic of your setup?
surge protector for modem => modem => router/switch
=> ethernet surge protector => ethernet cable to Mac.
Ethernet ports are vulnerable to power outage and
surges as well as whatever summer lightning storms
    can create.
A surge protector for the modem is a good investment.
But it allows more power through than should be on
the ethernet cat5 and going into your Mac's ethernet
    port.
Did you look into using or buying a 2nd modem?
Netgear has ADSL modem-router/switches in US for
$105. I don't know how proprietary or anything the UK
    systems are.
In Tiger I found (back around 10.3.4) that I had to
put the primary and secondary DNS IP address, which
were automatically picked up by router, into the
Network control panel to prevent delays. Then to turn
off IPv6 (causes slower response or no response and
isn't wildly supported it seems, but not sure why it
    is even there then).
Can you or have you reset the router or modem? most
have a button that will return it to default state,
but lose any settings you have provided.
I'm not sure what was in your .sig as to mac etc and
whether you can use an alternate ethernet type
connection, PC-CARDBUS or wireless router connection.
Hello "The Hatter", thanks for replying to me,
I have already purchased a second router, but I am still getting the same problem, Have reset the routers back to factory default on numerous occasions (with no success)
Get the same problem when connecting wireless as well
Lan light flickers when trying to connect with mac, so I presume a signal is coming from the mac to the router.
The only error message i get is on the router is LCP or CHAP negotiation failure. Sounds like tiscali server is not recognising my email address/password, will email you a schematic

  • Loss of Internet connection in Windows 7 Bootcamp

I have just installed Windows 7 through Bootcamp. Everythng is working really well except I can't seem to get an internet connection. There are not even any options for searching for a wireless network.
    Can anyone help?

As a person running Windows 7 64-bit under boot camp on a machine with an ATI Radeon 6750M, I can testify that at least that setup works fine. I don't see how a format and reinstall could break any particular element of the new install.
If your machine is anything but a Mac Pro, please ensure you're using the Boot Camp drivers Apple provide rather than the ones you get off ATI's website — the latter will refuse to recognose your card.
If you don't already have a copy, use Boot Camp Assistant to download the Boot Camp drivers for your particular machine.
