Intermittent playback via AirPlay using "new iPad"

Hello
Here is my question ... Playing back audio to the airport express,
From the iPad it cuts out for a second every two seconds
This does not happen when I play from my iPhone 4s
Setup
Router linksys e3200 dual band
iPhone 4s
New iPad
Airport express (joining network only) just for audio
This is very frustrating as I specially got the express to have wireless audio
I have tried unplugging and power cycling all the devices and no help
It seems odd that in a network with 300mbit speeds the 180k of AirPlay make a difference

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

    Does anybody know how to send computer screen to sleep whilst watching Apple TV via airplay using Yosemite? I've tried the hot key Shift + Control + Eject, but that sends the TV's screen as well as my iMac's screen to sleep at the same time. I don't want the 2 screens playing at the same time - I would like to send the computer's screen to sleep whilst the Apple TV continue's to play/mirror. Hoping someone knows how to do this?

    Thanks Vazandrew for your detailed explanation. I think you've answered my question in that what I'm wanting to do is not possible because it is mirroring in its entirety, unless it is being done via iTunes. 
    I live in hope that Apple (can in-time) organise the same screen sleep capability that operates via iTunes for people wanting to stream regular online TV via iMac!
    I would like to mark my question as answered by you, but had already checked the helpful star before going to mark the answered check mark. Didn't realise you could only mark one or the other…with no editing function.
    Your explanation as to what is going on with the mirroring was much appreciated, as I couldn't figure out why the short cut keys worked sometimes (via iTunes) and not others (via regular streamed online TV).

  • Sync used new iPad with iTunes w/o setting as new device or restoring

    Hi,
    few weeks after using new iPad that never synced with iTunes (backing up to iCloud), i want to sync iBooks and Aperture photos from iTunes library.
    But, when i connect my iPad to iTunes using usb cable, there are only two choices: Set as new device or restore from older backup. I dont want to sync anything but iBooks and photos. What could i do?

    Hmm, is Whitson's iPad the current name of the device, or an earlier iPad? Does that image you've shown occupy the entire iTunes window or is the usual column of library sources and playlists shown down the left-hand side. If the list is there then the iPad should appear as a device that you can right/option/cmd-click on. Failing that with all your purchases having come from the store you should be able to set up as new device and then reacquire all your store content but that would lose any data and settings. I suppose that after restoring as new, then backing up to the machine, you could then try restoring the backup from the cloud, and then if needed go through the original process as I suggested.
    You might find that if you opt to set up as new nothing actually changes until you choose some content to sync, which may give you the opportunity to use the process I've previously outlined. Sorry I can't be clearer but I know that method has worked for a few people who have had to switch computers after a crash. I'm not personally familiar with the process under your precise circumstances.
    The "cut the cord" feature which allowed you to set up the device without connecting to a computer is all well and good but if you have to go through this sort of effort when the time comes that you want to hook up your device to a library on your computer it becomes a complete nightmare.

    The US iPad Wifi + 3G bought from Apple or ATT is NOT network locked.
    Stay clear of Verizon however as these have CDMA and not GSM radio.
    (Effectively if you were to buy one from them you would simply have an overpriced WIFI model internationally)
    There are just a very few places where the iPad is being network locked and that includes surprisingly the very competitive UK mobile services.
    Specifically Orange (UK) is one - They block there subsidised iPad offerings for a minimum of three months then charge £20 for un-blocking !

    I just bought the new iPad and was planning to use it to access the internet on my upcoming trip to Japan. When I purchased the device last week, the Mac Genius assured me that all I needed to do was buy a SIM card once I got there. Unfortunately, as I'm doing research, I'm finding out that it isn't possible to buy a SIM card withouth being a resident there. Any advice regarding this issue would be greatly appareciated.

    I can't help with the sim card issue, but you will still have Internet access in any area where WiFi is available so in the worst case scenario, look for WiFi hotspots in Japan.

    Why does IPhoto create dupicates of photos and graphic that is on My Mac when I import the photos from Photo stream to the library?  I started out with about 4,000 photos when I transferred everything from my PC.  I use a new IPad and IPhone to take the photos.  The Mac is running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 3.1 Intel prosessor.  I am using IPhoto 11.

    there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

    The iPad/iPhone adapters already support wide range of voltages, rated at 100-240V 50-60Hz.  So it's ready all the way from Japan's 100V/60Hz to Europe's 230V/50Hz power systems.  You only need to physically adapt the prongs.

    Most PCs and laptops today are configured to handle 110 or 220 V power feeds; is that also true for the iPad 3rd generation?
    There have been previous questions about earlier iPad versions, but I wanted to be sure that the question is also phrased for the "new" iPad, sometimes called iPad 3 or iPad 3rd generation, which became available in March 2012.
    When traveling in Europe or elsewhere where power is supplied as 220v, not 110v, can one plug the new 3rd generation iPad sold in the USA with the 10 w USB power adapter charger plug into any 220 V outlet which has been adapted with fittings to accept US power connections?

    The power plug for the iPad is designed to work with 110 to 240V - so all you would potentially need is a plug adapter, you won't need a convertor.

    I am watching a program on TV using AirPlay AppleTv with mirroring on. Suddenly the program disappears.
    1. On the iPad, Airplay Apple TV mirroring has switched itself off.
    2. Even when I put it back on again, it goes off again shortly afterwards. Also the mirroring doesn't come back on to the tv screen.
    Any ideas?  I wondered if it might be something to do with poor broadband connections? I have just got both the iPad and the Apple tv so I'm not all that knowledgeable.

  • Choppy video playback via Airplay Mirroring

    I have an early/mid 2011 15" MBP with a quad-core i7 and Mountain Lion installed.  When I use Airplay to stream video from my MBP through my AppleTV 2 to my TV set, the video is very choppy and laggy sometimes.  I use either Quicktime or VLC.  Everything is running via wifi from my ISP modem/router through an Apple Time Capsule.  If anyone could help me out, that would be great, thanks!

    For Linksys router:
    1) Open your web browser.
    2) In the Address Box at the top of the browser window, type  http://192.168.1.1  and then click on Go, or press the Enter key on the keyboard. A window should appear in the center of the screen asking for your User Name and Password.
    3) Leave the User Name box blank. Type admin in the Password box, then click on OK, or press the Enter key on the keyboard.
    4) The Linksys Wireless Router Setup page should appear.
    5) Click Applications and Gaming Tab
    6) Click QoS
    7) For WMM Select disabled
    8) save

    Make sure the App you are trying to use supports Video mirroring some don't for copyright reasons.
    If You can mirror your iPads home screen, then mirroring works and its up to the actual App to allow the mirroring of their Video source.
