Intermittent problem related to home Network...I think

This is a tuffy for me. I have a 3 computer home network. This one(see sig)
a 2100 AMD and a P3 800.
Sometimes and for no apparent reason the 3000 will freeze at a varying boot stages sometimes going all the way to desktop before the freeze. If I unplug the network cable(maybe it's the cable) everything works.
Any trouble shooting advice?
Thanks,
Sam aka Ahumado

Thanks Jocko but I don't think so. That doesn't mean I'm not willing to be educated.
What does the 15A on the 12v take care of...How do we know it has anything to do with the network?
Conflict? Sure but disabling in BIOS won't do anything except disable it. I want it enabled so I can use. If it's unplugged the computer has no boot or stability problems.
Currently I have it disabled and am using a network card and have no problems.
I was hoping for more but Iknow network troubleshooting is very hard.
Thanks
Sam

  • Problems browsing on home network on my macbook pro and Air

I own a home network and unfortunately, we are having problems browsing using Safari or Firefox on the Macbook Pro and Macbook Air. The notebooks are able to connect well and also receive emails, but its only the browsing that cannot be done.
We also have a windows based laptop which works perfectly well.
My Iphone works well too !
    Can someone assist.

Go into your System Preferences > Network  Advanced>TC/IP and turn off IPv6
    reboot and try again.

  • BT Netprotect plus home network problem

I am having real problems with my home network when Netprotect plus is installed, which BT have been unable to resolve.
My network consists of two PCs running XP with service pack 3, a Netgear NAS drive, a laptop with Vista and a home hub 2.
All computers have file sharing set up correctly, no computer names are duplicated, all have the same network name set etc.  All devices show up on the network but I cannot read or open files on the different PCs and the laptop. The only device that I can open files on is the NAS drive - which clearly does not have NetProtect plus on; the NAS drive cannot however access my PCs for backing up purposes.
We have tried everything; permitted IPs are all set up correctly but even switching off the firewalls in NetProtect plus makes no difference, nor does removing and reinstalling NetProtect plus.  If I remove Netprotect plus from a particular PC then other devices on the network can access that PC perfectly normally - indicating that the problem lies with NetProtect plus.
The only solution would seem to be to move to another antivirus/netprotect programme.  But if anyone has any other ideas that would be much appreciated.
    Ian

    A postscript:
In the end I gave up on Netprotect plus and installed Kaspersky on the main PC, leaving Netprotect plus on the rest of the network. Kaspersky works perfectly. The other machines on the network can read and copy files from the machine running Kaspersky, which is what I needed. The reverse operation does not work, ie I cannot open and read files on the machines running Netprotect, but this does not cause me any problems. Incidentally, BT support were unable to sort out the problem!!

  • External Drive Problem on Home Network?

    Hi,
Any chance someone might be able to help me sort out a problem with my home network or point me in the right direction for more info?
I've managed to set up my home network through a wireless router (3Com). I've got a PPC iMac, MBP and HP printer connected wirelessly on this network. I use the Finder/Go/Connect to server and smb://192.168.1.2 to connect. (I've no idea what smb means or how it works!) An icon also appears in the finder side bar under shared and I can connect this way aswell.
I bought a 320Gb/7200rpm Iomega Home Network Hard Drive - Ethernet (and Usb). I partitioned and reformatted it (Mac OS Extended-Journaled) to move my iPhoto, iTunes and Data files so these could be accessed from either computer (haven't moved the files yet!). This drive is wired through one of the ethernet ports on the router.
Although I can see and access this drive on the wireless network I can't see the partitions or add files and I can't see files I added as a test when wired/connected to the iMac through the Usb ports.
I had tested the drive before reformatting/partitioning it and could see and access it (copy/move files, etc,) on the wireless network.
Any ideas on what to do to be able to access and use the drive wirelessly or from both computers, wired to one on usb?
    Thanks for any help,
    David

    Hello,
Purchased the 500G version of the Iomega NAS drive, having similar issues. Accessed the unit via its IP address, from Safari, and set-up some folders to be shared, and other parameters. But I can't seem to access the drive (mounting with SMB://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) seems to offer me grayed-out choices for those folders).
My guess is that we're required to use the SMB networking, since its built-into the unit. Was surprised to see in your post that it was easily formatted with a Mac OS (I presume you did this while connected via USB?)
Becoming inclined to try the PC management SW that came with unit (using a "bootcamp" PC) as opposed to trying to do any more "Mac-based" configuration. Note that if you need to re-format back to the original PC format you can do that via the IP address, from Safari.
I guess I'm not really being very helpful, but maybe you've figured out some of this since November.
    Appreciate any "Lessons Learned".
    Cheers,
    Dave H.
P.S. I did find some info at the Iomega web site (see below). Maybe this will help?

  • Windows 8.1 in Bootcamp not recognising home network WiFi

I am running bootcamp with Windows 8.1 on my MacBook Pro Retina Early 2013. I installed it together with all drivers as suggested by bootcamp.
In Mac OS 10.9.4 I am connected to my home network and can see about 4-5 other networks (from my neighbours).
After booting into Windows, I can see the networks of my neighbours but not my network.
This connection problem occurred only recently. I have been able to connect seamlessly before.
I went through the router settings not finding any restrictions to IP- or MAC-Addresses or a/b/g settings. I tried resetting my router without any luck.
I tried uninstalling the Windows WLAN driver (also disabling), but I can still only see other peoples networks. I tried restoring to an earlier point in time without any luck.
My Kindle and my Nexus 5 connect without a problem to my home network.
    Any ideas?

What finally worked was changing the channel of the router. I had my setting on auto and changed it randomly to channel 2, which worked!

  • Parallels Desktop and Home Networking

I don't know if anyone has encountered a similar problem that I'm describing below.
Context: We have two MBP's at home running 10.4.9 connected over a wireless network. Both computers for some time saw each other easily over the network when appletalk was enabled and also shared files easily. All one had to do was to click the network folder in the finder window, and the other computer would show up automatically.
Recently, I installed Parallels Desktop Build 3188... and well, now neither computer could see or share files with one another. From checking all my network settings, nothing about the airport connect had changed, and appletalk was still enabled on both computers.
I could remove parallels, but obviously I installed the software because I needed to make use of some PC software.
Oh, and I have checked the Parallels website. Neither their support, documentation, or FAQ were of any help whatsoever.
Has anyone experienced this problem with their home network and Parallels?

I want to thank Joe and Tristan for replying. Just a follow up to both your comments.
First, I have my parallels VM set to bridged, rather than shared networking. As to which type is actually more secure for Win XP running within the virtual machine, well, I'm not quite sure and that's surely a topic for further discussion.
I have to report on the status of my network - well, I started seeing the other mac in my network folder again... but sporadically. I was doing what Tristan had suggested, unchecking the Parallels Host-Guest and Parallels NAT configurations. I suspect the following:
When my computer is first booted, having both the Parallels Host-Guest and NAT checked prevented me from seeing the other computer. Uncheck them, and all of a sudden the other computer appears on the list. However, at this point, I can re-check the boxes of the Host-Guest and NAT, and am still able to access the other computer. It's almost like the computer doesn't see it at first, but then when you take down the Parallels wall and put it up again later, the computer remembers that the other one was there. This is completely speculative, and needs a few more rounds of testing to be sure.
However, for now at least, I can get my network connections back.

  • Network problem with one particular iMac in a home network

I want to report a problem involving one particular iMac (2008 Al 24").
On my home network (Apple Airport Extreme and Express extensions, about five Macs and couple of iDevices), all other Macs can see and connect to each other as well as printing to the networked Brother printer without problem.
However, on one particular iMac, I can see all other Macs, can set Brother printer as default with green dot next to it in Print Preference Pane, but I can not connect to other macs, nor print to the printer. Meanwhile, the iMac can get on the internet without any problem. I checked Share Preference Pane and all settings are same as other macs.
The iMac used to work flawlessly until recently, and I first noticed the problem because I could not print, getting a message the printer can not be found (and the dots turn yellow for a while then went back to normal green). Then, I found neither the iMac, nor other macs on the network can connect to each other, even though I can see all of them in Finder.
I opened Apple Remote Network on my own mac, and I can see and connect all other shared macs, but this iMac's status showed not online, even though the IP adress is valid. As a results, no other macs can connect to the iMac, either. It seems to be a problem with the intranet only, not internet.
One more thing, about a month ago, the iMac popped out a warning about network name, saying the old name was in use (conflict) in the network, so I have to change it in Share Pane. Not sure if this is related to the intranet problem.
Reboot and repaired permission several times, no change. Hate to reinstall everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Another update:
For unknown reason, my iMac was suddenly back onto the home "intranet". It can be accessed by my MacBook Air through Finder Connect, and can also be seen by Apple Remote Desktop.
However, printing is still a problem while other macs have no problem printing to the same printer. Whenever I send a print task, either Word document, or other programs such as GraphicConverter image, the iMac tried to connect to the default printer, but failed, and wanted to try again in 30 seconds 9and continued to fail). Meanwhile, the green dot next to the printer selection turned to yellow in Preference Pane. But as soon as I cancel the print job, the printer status went back to normal green.
The printer is a Brother color laser HL-4070CDW, connected through wireless (g only), with it own DHCP but specific IP address. I printed out a setting for the printer and all looks normal, and all other macs can print to it without problem. Other macs can also get access to the printer profile, and check inks copy counts, etc, but the iMac cannot.
Only thing changed since last post was a new update for Apple Airport firmware (to 7.5.2 I think). So my problem is still half solved: can connect to other macs on the same network, but still not be able to print.

  • Problem printing to printer attached to a pc over home network

I have a home network with two computers, a Dell running Win XP and a new iMac running Leopard. I have Fusion installed on the Mac running a virtual PC on WinXP as well, so I effectively have 3 computers. I had an old HP printer attached to the Dell that both the Mac and its virtual PC could see and print to fine over my network. I had to replace the printer and now have a Canon MX700 attached (by USB) to the Dell, and am having trouble with remote printing. I was able to "add" the new printer to both the Mac and its virtual pc, but only the virtual pc is able to print successfully. When I try printing from the Mac applications, using the driver for the MX700 printer found during the add printer setup, I get an error message. I then tried a new setup with a generic (Gutenprint) driver, and the printer was spitting out blank pages. Then I downloaded another driver from Canon's website for OS X 10.5, and it still didn't work. (I am not sure if I was supposed to uninstall the previous drivers first, and if so,I don't know how to do that since I am still new to the Mac environment. I just am assuming that the new drivers take over for the former one.) I assume that the problem is a driver problem and not a network problem since the virtual pc on the Mac works fine and my old HP worked fine with the same network setup. Any help?

Thank you again for sticking with me on this. Frankly, I was very surprised when the Canon did not work even when I carried it downstairs and attached it directly to the Mac by USB. I used the installation disk, which said it installed successfully (after several tries where it kept getting hung up after installing the drivers, and showing 0% completed, requiring me to use force quit to get the setup to stop each time). But as I explained in my prior post, the Mac never found the printer even after the supposed "successful" install.
This is typical when there are too many different versions of the driver residing on the Mac. I will explain my procedure to remove all the Canon stuff at the bottom of this post.
I then downloaded the Mac OS driver from the support page for my printer on Canon's website and ran that driver, but still no recognition. But I am willing to keep trying. I had looked at the PrintFab driver too (which I learned about from one of your other posts), but they are expensive and I probably could buy another printer for the cost of that driver. So I don't think that is an option.
Agree with you re the PrintFab. That is why I think the direct network connection would be best.
You suggest that I try another Gutenprint driver from the Canon list, which I guess I can randomly do, but I noticed that a number of the models listed show the driver as 5.2.3 (the same numbers as the generic one I tried)--does this meand they are all the same? Can I just keep downloading and installing more drivers without removing any?
It is not another version I need you to try. Using the same version, I suggest you try some of the other models that are included with the Gutenprint driver. Ideally, it would be good to know which model of the included Gutenprint drivers uses the same ink tank setup as your MX700. For example, if the MX700 uses BCI8 Blk and a BCI5 Blk and the three 8 series colour (Cyan, Magenta and Yellow), then selecting a model that uses the same setup might work for you. If you check a Canon web site, it would tell you what tanks are used by a certain model that is available within the Canon list.
I am willing to consider the network install of the printer, and that would be a good way to go, but I find Canon's instruction for network installations that came with the printer (which does not appear to consider mixing Macs and Pcs since there are separate instructions for both) a bit confusing. The basic installation of the printer on the network seems easy enough to follow. It is the further instruction for doing something to the "card" for each computer that will be using the printer on the network that I find confusing. I don't know what they are talking about. I certainly don't want to mess up my network connections. Do you know of any better instructions for setting this all up?
The setup is easier than the manual suggests. With the printer connected via USB, you open the Utilities application and select the Network tab. However this does require that you can get the printer to work when connected via USB, so we have to achieve that first.
Again, thank you very much for all your help. (Incidentally, I also discovered I can't use the fax feature of the printer because we have a two-line phone line and when I plug the phone cord into the printer and then out to the phone it eliminates the second line, no ringtone. There is no setting for this on the printer that I can find. But I can live without the fax, just another source of annoyance with this printer).
That would suggest that there is a link from the first phone to the second. Unplugging the phone cable to connect to the fax has broken that loop. You could easily get the phones rewired to suit the fax, but again it costs money so it might not be worth it.
Here is my procedure for repairing faulty installations of the Canon PIXMA drivers.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax. Highlight the Canon printer in the Printer list and click the minus ( - ) button. [You may not have to do this step]
    2. Hold Control key and click in the empty Printers list. Click on Reset Printing System.
    3. Close Print & Fax
    4. Go to Library > Printers > Canon and delete the contents of the BJPrinter folder.
    5. Go to Library > Receipts and delete the Canon driver package file, if one exists. The file name will show Canon MX700 xxx.pkg
    6. Go to Library > Preferences and delete the Canon folder.
    7. Go to HD > Users > Shared > Canon and delete the BJPrinter folder.
    8. Empty the Trash
    9. Unplug the Canon USB cable and restart the Mac
    10. Install the latest version of the Canon driver. Looking at the Canon AU web site it is v6.9.3
    11. Once the driver installation is complete, go to Applications > Utilities and open Disk Utility. Run the Repair Disk Permissions option.
    12. Reconnect the Canon USB cable. Then open Print & Fax and see if the Canon printer is listed. If it is, try a test print.
    13. If the printer is not listed, click the plus ( + ) button.
    14. Select the Default view and select the Canon printer connected via the USB port. The Print Using menu should automatically change to Canon IJ Printer.
    15. Click Add to add the printer.

  • Problem with "Home Network" in hub manager

    Hi everyone,
I had a bit of an issue with my homehub this week where some prolonged decorating caused the hub to be unplugged for most of the day. When the hub was plugged in again it appeared to have performed a factory reset. Now over the past day or two it has had the odd issue that I've needed to sort. My main issue is that currently the "Home Network" option with the Home Hub manager will cause the router to reset and drop connection, however it is only this page. Also the router isn't responding to requests to bthomehub.home and I have to use the IP. I've done a factory reset through the hub manager and set up all my previous settings as were previously, but the lack of access to the "Home Network" page is still a problem and is getting to be frustrating because I have a chromecast unable to connect without being able to turn off smart setup.
Details of my home hub below, any input would be lovely.
BT Home Hub 5 (Type A) | Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.6

have you tried a factory reset but using the recessed button on back and holding for 20/30 secs until the lights flash?

  • Problem with shared HP930C printer on home network

We have 2 networked computers at home -- one is Windows XP with an HP930C printer attached, the other is Windows Vista 32-bit with a Canon iP3600 attached.  Both printers are shared across the network.  Both computers will print to the Canon printer.  We used to able to use the HP printer from both computers.  Then it was detached for many months, and now we cannot use it from the Vista computer.
The HP printer can be seen from Control Panel of both computers.  But when we try to print from Vista, a dialog box appears and disappears so quickly that it cannot be read -- nothing appears in the printer queue and nothing prints.  I downloaded and ran the HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility on the Vista computer, but it did not find the HP printer.
I've checked everything I can think of, and I've run out of ideas.  Can anyone help, please?

Hello freemcb, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing connectivity issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend powering down the printer and computers.  Once they are off, I would recommend removing the power cord from the router and waiting 60 seconds.  After the alloted time, plug the router back in and let it broadcast, then power on the printer and computers.
I would also recommend utilizing this document on Wireless Printing Center Troubleshooting Issues.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Home network printing problem from Windows 8

I have 3 PCs on my home network:
    1.    Windows XP desktop (Pro SP3) with HP 6500 E709a USB printer.
    2.    Windows 7 desktop (Ultimate SP1 64 bit) with HP 1018 USB printer.
    3.    Windows 8 (64 bit) laptop.
Both printers are NOT Ethernet printers.
All computers can see each other and share folders on the home network.
Computers 1 & 2 can freely print on their own printers, as well as on each other's printer.
The problem is with computer 3 (Win8): it can see both printers, but can't print on either (in fact, I can print a test page on the HP 1018 printer from the printer driver on the Win8 machine, but I can't print anything from any application).
I tried to install HP 6500 driver on the Win8 machine, I turned on Network Discovery in the Advanced Sharing Settings on it, but it still doesn't work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is there any "general puprpose" driver for HP 6500 E709a, something to replace the WIN8 driver that fails?

  • Printing problems with a shared printer on home network

    Hi
I just upgraded all my Macs to Tiger. We have been running Panther very smoothly since it came out. We have a small home network running on a standard hub. The USB printer is attached to one of my G4s, and the rest of the network uses this as a printer connection.
I've been successfully printing to our HP 920C printer from all my programs for years now. Now that I've gone to Tiger, my printer Utility sees and registers the printer, but when I try to print to it from any of the Apple text programs, there is no response. I print from Illustrator with no trouble at all. TextEdit for example, sees the printer, but when I click the "PRINT" button from the print dialogue nothing happens. I am wondering why this is.
To note: I have added a line of code to the Terminal, which unblocks the system for Adobe Distiller to create PDFs (sudo killall -HUP cupsd). This was reccomended by Adobe with Panther in order to bypass a PDF function whithin Panther. I wonder if it was a mistake to add it to Tiger, and that it is this that is blocking TextEdit. If this is the case how do I remove the command, and reset the system to its default PDF setting.

It was a simple problem after all. Sadly my hard disc was about to snuff it. I changed disk, reinsalled Tiger and all is as smooth as ever.

  • Home Networking and Multiple Router Set up Problem

I suspect this has to do with IP addresses changing from the main router after a certain amount of time.
    What could be causing this?
What can I do to stop this from happening?
    Thanks for any help

Running multiple router behind router can be tricky and may be the cause of your dropouts if you don't have it configured properly.
Cisco recommends using your best router as your primary router and DHCP server.
The best way to setup for home networks, in my opinion, is to use only one router, and put the other router(s) in bridge mode.  Also, make sure your modem is not a router too.

Well my iphone 5 does not remember my home network. This is not a problem with the wifi router as the ipad works absolutely fine. The wifi loses it connection in just 2 minutes. So could you please fix this problem.

Not unless the modem is causing a problem.
What you want to do is get it to work reliably over Ethernet first, then tackle wifi. Power off the modem. On your macbook, delete the Ethernet configuration and the Wifi configuration. Power up the modem, then connect the mac via Ethernet. Create the new Ethernet configuration and see if you can connect.
