Intermittent sound issue key clicks are silent

Any suggestions on why the clicking sounds come and go when I type on my iPhone?  I had my iPhone 4 replaced several times and have since upgraded to a 5s and still have the same issue.  When the key sounds aren't working I won't get a sound notification when I receive a text or e-mail.  It is not the volume control set to mute or the switch on the side.  Power cycle does not solve the problem.

Hello Britmor,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend you reset your iPhone, as is explained in the iPhone User Guide:

  • Hear a bizarre sound of key click...

    Hello,
When I watch my Captivate project on the browser, No problem occurs.
But when I insert it in a website and that I watch it from here, I hear some bizarre sounds which look like the sound of key click (for example, when typing text is recorded from Captivate).
This sound is continuous and is very annoying.
So does anybody have this kind of problem when his project is inserted in a platform or a website?
Thank you very much for your answer...

    Hi there
I'm guessing what you are hearing are the "keyclick" sounds that play back for typed text when you play the demonstration.
When you Publish, click the Preferences...... button.
Click the images below to view at larger size
Then clear the option to Play tap audio for recorded typing.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Notification sounds and key click come and go since upgrading to IOS 8.1.3 on iPhone 4s

Has anyone else had issues with the latest IOS update?  Since I did it last night, my key click sound and my notification sounds come and go on there own.  Even if it is not on silent.

    Hi kdbecky1,
If you are having issues with your sounds on your iPhone being inconsistent, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

  • Intermittent sound issue

    Hi,
Hope someone can help with this issue I'm having. It seems to be an intermittent issue but has started to happen more often recently.
Originally around a few months ago I would turn on all my devices (TV, AV Receiver and YouView Box) and I would not get any sound (I do get picture). By just switching channels, the sound would then be heard. I presumed it was a problem with the HDMI connections and it didnt happen all the time so not such an issue.
More recently (in the last 4 weeks) switching channels no longer returns the sound. I need to switch the you view box off and then back on to get sound. Again not such a big issue as although it was happening more often it was a simple work around.
However in the last few days the problem has gotten worse. Now instead of the no sound occurring when I switch everything on, the sound is turning off when I change channels and also when I'm just watching a channel. Again the fix is to just switch the you view box off and back on but because its happening at least once when I switch on and then at least once when I'm watching tv I'm actually starting to get a bit annoyed.
Could this be my setup or equipment or a problem with the youview box?
My you view software is; manufacturer 18.3.0, component 2.5.6, platform 1017 and ISP 90.
The you view is connected to a Onkyo TX-SR390 and then onto a LG 50PK590. All done vie HDMI.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Jamie et al,
From the reports above, it appears there is an intermittent compatibility issue between the YouView Humax box and Onkyo A/V receivers. I'm not aware of any issues with other A/V receivers but it is not clear which of the devices is at fault.
    There are two simple workarounds:
    1. Set HDMI Audio Format to Stereo (no good if you want surround sound from HD channels and Video on Demand).
    2. Use an S/PDIF optical cable as Onkyo advised.
Option 2 is the best option - you just need a suitable optical (TOSlink) cable - available from the BT Shop or many high street shops for a few pounds (or eBay).
On the YouView STB be sure to set S/PDIF Audio Format to Surround (in Settings - TV Signal & Quality).
On the Onkyo receiver you should find a digital input screen that lets you assign the appropriate optical input to be associate with a particular HDMI input. See page 46 of the Onkyo TX-NR525 manual to assign the Optical audio input to your YouView source - this should override the HDMI audio.
      http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/tx-nr525_manual_e.pdf
Note there is no loss of quality doing this with a YouView box - you will still get 5.1 Dolby Digital audio from programmes that have surround sound (e.g. some HD films, sport and drama on Freeview and Extra TV channels as well as Video on Demand).
(Note BluRay players can take advantage of the extra bandwidth available on HDMI to output Dolby True HD 7.1 etc which is not available over S/PDIF but I'm not aware of any Set Top Boxes that offer 7.1 audio).
I'll see if we can reproduce this and raise it as an issue if we can - thanks for providing the feedback from Onkyo.
Please let us know if this solves your problem or if you need any help.

  • Intermittent Sound Issues - HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop

    Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop running Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and have been running into some strange sound issues first.
First, on occassion when I start my laptop I will get a "No Audio Output Device Installed" Message, and no sound controllers show up in the device manager.  Strangely, sometimes if I restart the laptop or put it into hibernation and bring it back, the output device will again work.
Also, when it is working I am experiencing other strange issues.  Often, sound will work only through headphones, and not through the built in Altec Lansing speakers.  Other times, even with the headphones plugged in, I only get sound through the speakers.  And sometimes, no sound through either, even though the computer at this point is showing a working audio device.
Lastly, when the sound does work through the speakers, it is normally crackling and distorted - it doesn't sound right at all.
The sound device installed on the computer is Contextant Smart Audio 221 (At least when it chooses to be working...)
I hope there is a solution to this problem, thank you very much for any support!

I also have a HP Pavillion laptop, with Windows Vista..  I am having sound issues, but not the same ones..  mine often displays the volume bar on the screen, clicking like I'm turning it up or down.. I can't get it to stop or go away.. I usually have to reboot and most of the time it stops, until the next time I open the laptop.  Also, when it's not doing this, I can't control my volume from the touch pad volume control at the top of my keyboard.  I thought maybe it was just damaged because it seems to have some scratches in that area where the top connects when closed, but I didn't think it made sense that rebooting will stop this, even temporarily.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, however, one driver didn't come back.. it actually seemed to be better at first, but now I have to reboot it almost everytime I open it.  I thought if I didn't leave it in hibernation, just turn it off, while not using it, that would help, it didn't.  I have also tried updating the drivers and they are updated.. If anyone knows what else I can do, please help, it's terribly annoying, plus I have a lot of music on it, I'd like to listen to it sometime.

  • No Ringtone or key-clicks

Last night my wife told me her 8G phone was lighting up when she got a call, but no ring tone (it would also vibrate).....I told her that my key clicks went silent, even though the switch is still selecting "on". Funney, she said....I wonder if your ring tones are working. Sure enough, both her phone and my 16G phone have the same symptoms. No ring tones or key clicks. I ran a few checks and it will play the ring tones when selecting diiferent ones under settings, but just won't ring. I have tried cycling the phone off and on and a reset. I have synched with iTunes but not performes a restore yet. Any ideas?

I found this post by searching Google for the symptoms I was having. After completely reverting my phone to factory everything, I was still having this issue. I wanted to tell the original poster what caused mine: the "silence" switch was flipped. I didn't even know there was a silence button. Check the little switch right above your side volume controller. It should be flipped "up" towards the screen of the phone. If it's flipped down and you see a little orange dot in the margin, it's in silence mode. This causes the exact symptoms you were describing (music plays, ringtones play in the options, phone won't ring, keyclicks won't play). You can even still adjust the volume in silence mode (it just has no effect). Hope this helps someone as stupid as I was.

  • I have read the thread about turning off dialpad sounds when calling a number. I used to always be able to do this on my 4S but not so since the latest software on the 5. Keyboard clicks are turned off and still have dialpad sound. I've NEVER had to mute.

I really do not think it is the iPad or your network connection. Other users have reported this very same issue. Try this and see if it works for you - it may not work - but it's easy to try - harmless - and it has worked in the past for others.
Try signing out of your account and restart your iPad.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store> Apple ID and sign in again.

  • My iPad 1 does not make any of the sounds (key clicking, etc) I have directed it to despite having volume turned all the way up...any thoughts?

my iPad 1 does not make any of the sounds (key clicking, etc) I have directed it to despite having volume turned all the way up...any thoughts?

Check to see if the "silent" switch is turned on. This is either the hardware switch next to the volume control or a software switch on the "recent apps" tray depending on how you have your iPad configured (Settings > General).
Too see the software switch on the "recent apps" tray double-click the Home button and swipe the tray to the right.

  • Key click sounds won't turn off

The subject says it. I have a quicksilver updated with all updates to Tiger as of 2007 03 13, and the key click sound will not turn off. Changing the setting in Universal Access does nothing. The only way I can get relief from the constant noixzse is to tuyrn the volume off.
Perhaps a preference file is damaged or needs to be c hanged manually. Any help on this?

    Hello Rick!
This is a new one to me, but I think your analysis is correct.
The files to try are com.apple.universalaccess.plist (first) and if that doesn't fix it., then that one plus com.apple.systempreferences.plist, both in your ~/Library/Preferences folder. Remember to log out after you've binned them.

  • Faint click/tick sounds near the trackpad area

Hi, I have a week old Macbook Pro i5. It makes light click/tick sort of noises somewhere around the trackpad/keyboard area. I am not able to figure out where and when exactly the sound comes from. It is similar to a sound that would be created when you gently tap on a glass door with a metal piece. It is sort of random and doesn't seem like hard drive noises. Although the sound is not that annoying, I am little bit concerned that it might exacerbate in future. Anyone else noticed a similar issue?

There are actually 2 of those brackets by the way. I believe if you just open up the bottom lid then just apply it back on by hand, it would keep any moving parts from rubbing. When I first opened it, I noticed there was a mark on the inside of the bottom lid made by the one of the fan. Which allows to me to believe that Apple assembled that MBPs too tight. Therefore, causing some parts to rub. I can't be 100% sure what is making the clicking sounds, those little brackets things does make sense but I"m still not too sure. However, I do know that as soon as I removed the lid, I notice the sound is gone when I apply pressure or move the machine. I would say this isn't too much of a concern as far as for the health of the machine but it is a bit annoying.

  • When watching a DVD slideshow that I made using iDVD on TV there are silent intermittent glitches throughout a 30 minute project. What is causing this?

When watching a dvd on the TV that I burned using idvd, there are intermittent sound glitches spaced throughout a 30 minute slide show. There will be about 3 or 4, they last for a a couple of seconds, then the show resumes. What is causing this and is there something I can do to fix this. The show works perfectly on the computer.

    Hi
    a. < Hard Drive with an available space of 12GB > If this is the Main hard disk
the free space is way to low ! ! should be minimum 25Gb for iDVD to work as intended
    b. In iDVD 1-6 You can't set burn speed - it read from DVD discs and x16 is way
to high to get an usable result. (In iDVD08 this can be set to x1)
    Way around:
    • In iDVD save as DiskImage (File menu and down)
    TEST this with Apple DVD-player.
    • If it doesn't play OK try to use another encoder
    • I use Best Performance - avoids the Best Quality though I don't think it is
(In iDVD08 there is Pro Quality - I love it.)
    • Burn this to a DVD WITH Apple Disk Util tool where You can set burn speed
or use Roxio Toast™ My favourite way - so easy.
    I use Verbatim
    I use only DVD-R (No +R or +/-RW)

  • Intermittent sound fault with keyboard clicks

    Hi there,
I have recently purchased an iPad2, and there seems to be an intermittent sound fault only involving the keyboard click sounds.
The sound works fine on music and other content and I have tried deselecting and reselecting the keyboard clicks on/off in the settings page, but to no avail.
    Do you have any suggestions?

If it happens intermittently, then I would think that it cannot be an incorrect setting, or having system sounds muted. Do you ever restart your iPad - or reboot it?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Intermittant sound on HP Pavilion PC

    Can someone please help us?
We have a HP Pavilion PC running Vista, our problem is that when the sound is turned on there is intermittant sound coming from both channels, and you are unable to understand anything coming out of the speakers.  But if you put a headphone jack in, there is only sound coming from the right channel.
I have uninstalled the audio driver and reinstalled to hopefully correct the problem, but it continues to stay the same.  We have run out of ideas and hope someone can help.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59542.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
