Intermittent touchscreen support on Satellite P50T-A-10U

I purchased the above laptop Satellite P50t-A-10U at the weekend, and I have managed to see the touch screen work twice, once it works it'll work perfectly until shutdown/restart, but 90% of the time it doesn't respond to touch input (I must have restarted it around 20-30 times).
Windows acknowledges it's touch capable, but the setup/calibrate options in "Tablet PC settings" don't respond to input most of the time.
The only thing in the event log says "A multi-touch device reported inconsistent contact information".
I've updated all the drivers I can find, currently running Windows 8.1 but it didn't work out of the box either (with Windows 8.0).
Is this a hardware issue or just dodgy drivers?

It seems that you are the first who has shared such issue here in the community.
Because Im not quite sure if its software or hardware related problem, I would recommend you to reset the system back to factory settings.
How?
Take a look onto this doc:
[Windows 8 Recovery & Repair|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm]
By the way: What BIOS version is available on your notebook?
I found on Toshiba EU driver page new BIOS (v1.30) ready for download.

  • Satellite P50t-B-104: - WiFi doesen't work well

My new Satellite P50T-B-104 has an Intel dual band wireless-ac 3160 adapter.
Wi-Fi and also Bluetooth is supported by this adapter.
    Bluetooth is running well.
On the Wi-Fi side there is no network in the connection list, although in our neighbourhood area there are a lot of private networks.
So first I updated the adapter (now driver 17.0.5.8 from the Intel homepage) but nothing change.
Then I tested it with my smartphone as a mobile Wi-Fi-Hotspot. I only receive a Wi-Fi signal, if the Wi-Fi sender is direct (max 10 cm) near the notebook.
    It`s more a NFC than a Wi-Fi functionality.
If I placed the Wi-Fi-Router on the keyboard of the notebook Wi-Fi is running well.
I suppose the Wi-Fi antenna has a failure or does a controller exist to regulate the Wi-Fi sensitivity?

    Hi xaver,
there is no difference with or without AC power suply. There is no problem to connect to my router, the problem is the poor possible distance between notebook and my WLAN router.
When you start your WiFi functionality of your notebook for the first time your WiFi adapter present a list with all the possible WLAN networks in your neighbourhood. In my case normaly there must be six oder seven WLAN networks and one of this WLAN networks is my network.
I also tested WLAN functionality with a USB WLAN stick. The stick was automaticly installed and recognize 6 different networks. The integrated WLAN adapter only one, my router and only by a distance of 10cm or closer.
Now I placed the notebook in a distance of 1 meter from my WLAN router. The integrated WLAN adapter doesn't receive any network, the list of the possible WLAN networks for the integrated WLAN adapter is empty, while the wlan usb stick notify all networks.
So I contact Toshiba service to get help.
    Gerd
PS: I wrote the reply with the poor wlan connection.

  • How to create new partition on a brand-new Satellite P50T-A0EE?

    Hi,
I bought a Toshiba, Satellite P50T-A0EE SLV laptop yesterday with installed Win 8, in Adelaide. First, I realised that only one C:/ partition is available and no additional partition is created for data and for some reason, already 150 GB is used on the C:/ by the factory installed software.
Moreover, checking the disk management, it came up that four primary partitions exist.
One is the C:/, two others are called Healthy (Recovery Partition), and one is the Healthy (EFI System Partition).
As I read up about it, a fifth primary partition is questionable to create, maybe even not supported.
When I just started to launch on C:/ the 'shrink volume' command, much less space was offered to use than it was displayed as free under file manager.
Could someone help, please how to create a separate partition with a reasonable size (600 GB at least from the 1Tb) for data? I would not like to keep my data files on a same partition with windows.
    Thanks,
    Gerti

    Hi dude,
Before you would start to modify the HDD partitions table, I recommend strongly to create an Toshiba Recovery Medium using the preinstall software/tool called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
This software creates either the recovery disks (DVDs) or Recovery USB flash memory.
Its very important to create such medium in case you would like to go back to the factory state.
After that you could use an open source software like Gparted tool to create the partitions and to modify the HDD partitions table.
    http://gparted.org/liveusb.php
Note: the partitions which are already available on the HDD contain the Toshiba recovery image which allows you to recover the notebook from HDD. But this is possible only in case the HDD partitions table has not been modified in the past.

  • Satellite P50T-A016. how to disable edge swipe gestures

    Hello,
I have Satellite P50T-A016 laptop runing windows 8.1 and I'm attempting to turn off the charm bar. After researching various websites/forums, it appears the charm bar is hardwired into windows and Microsoft provides no option to turn it off directly.
These websites/fourms also suggest disabling edge swipes gestures will indirectly turn-off the charm bar.
After I de-select "control pannel -> mouse -> enable edge swipes" and reboot the laptop, edge swipes are still being detected.
Why is edge switpes still enabled?
    How to disable edge swipes?
    Regards
    Graham

    > I have looked at the link. It is address multifinger gestures and sensitivity. I also noticed that the link leaves the "Enable edge swipes" option selected. So I'm not sure how this link helps.
The link and the HowTO helps you to find the touchpad Synaptics settings!
It shows you where to disable or enable settings which would be also related to the touchpad edge swipes.
    > Regarding the charm bar, as a desktop mode user of windows I don't use it. The only time I have used it is when I have inadvertently turn it on when I switch between mouse (default), touchpad and touschscreen. It just get in the way even when hot corners are disabled.
Well, buddy you are not alone with this opinion but this is how it works and Microsoft decided to design the Win 8/8.1 system in this way
    > When the "Enable edge swipes" option deselected then right-edge gesture on the touchpad no longer triggers the charm bar opening. Great!,
Thats right and this is how it works
    > However, the right-edge gesture on the touchscreen is still enabled.
Dont mix touchpad with the touchscreen! The edge swipe settings in touchpad are NOT related to touchscreen!

  • Satellite P50T-A-115 after Win8.1 upgrade does not play sound over HDMI

I have a newly acquired Satellite P50T-A-115, upgraded to win 8.1, all drivers and upodates suggested are installed.
I get no sound on my home movie system, playing from my laptop, while the video is good.
The sound comes from the laptop internal speakers.
There is no other options than my internal loud speakers in the control panel.
I have seen similar questions for other laptops, but have not found suggestions useful.
Does anyone get this to work on a P50T-A-115 ?

    Please check this thread
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=74149
There was a similar discussion and issue could be solved by installing and updating the drivers in the right order and uninstalling the Intel WiDi as suggested by Toshiba.
    Feedback would be appreciated.

  • Satellite P50T-A - Bluetooth not working in Win 8.1

Since I bought my Toshiba Satellite P50t-A-125 laptop 2 weeks ago I have had problems with the bluetooth. My mouse kept disconnecting and I had to unpair and pair again over and over again to get it to work. The bluetooth device itself in the laptop kept disappearing from the device manager and somehow I managed to get it back again by re-installing the drivers.
However, now whatever I do I cannot get the bluetooth device to appear again in Device Manager. I have searched for new devices but it doesn't find it. There is now an Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) showing under USB controllers. I update the drivers but it says they are up to date.
I have tried searching online and seen lots of people having this issue with Windows 8.1 and all the solutions I've tried don't make a difference. My laptop came with Windows 8.1 pre-installed so I would have thought that Toshiba would have made sure that bluetooth would work under Windows 8.1 before making them available for sale but obviously not.
Any idea on how to add bluetooth back into device manager?

Despite restarting my laptop over and over again yesterday and downloading drivers and updates nothing fixed it. I gave up and found an old USB mouse and ignored the bluetooth problem.
Today, seemingly at random the bluetooth is back in the device manager again even though I did nothing different today than I had already tried yesterday.
Now that it is back I was able to untick the power management settings of allow the computer to turn off this device to save power(as has been suggested online) and so far (fingers crossed) it has remained stable except for once it stopped working briefly.
I still don't understand why it vanished from the device manager in the first place or why it has reappeared without doing anything.
There is clearly something seriously wrong with bluetooth under Windows 8.1

  • Satellite P50t-A - Forced hibernation even with power connected

    Hello,
I have a Satellite P50t-A where the battery appears to be failing. It is reading 0% and the charger is periodically charger is turning on and off. When it stops charging (about every 5 mins), the computer run for a period then enters forcefully enters hiberation. This hiberation occurs eveen when the power is connected. Why is it entering hiberation even when the power is connected? Why does battery status has precedence over a stable power?
I have ordered a new battery and waiting for its arrival. In the interim, how to force the laptop to run on power (ignore the battery status)? If I open up the laptop and remove the battery, will it run with the power connected and the battery removed?
    Regards
    Graham

Update. Disassmebled laptop and disconnected the battery. It now powers up now and the battery monitor reports "no battery detected". After running it for a period, the forced hiberation no longer occurs.

  • Win8 mobile / tablet touchscreen support in javafx 8.0

Does anyone have any concrete information about touchscreen support in JavaFX 8? We are about to abandon java for HTML5, but I think I can make a case for JavaFX 8 if I can demonstrate that mobile touch gestures can be supported properly.

Judging by [URL https://javafx-jira.kenai.com/issues/?jql=text%20~%20%22touch%20screen%22]Jira and [URL http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/input/SwipeEvent.html]the javadoc, yes they plan to provide touch screen support.
They have hinted at support for mobile devices in the future, but I have absolutely no idea when they plan to release that. There isn't going to be a lot of concrete information, since Oracle does not like to make premature announcements.

  • Satellite P50t-B-108 - BD-RW Firmware and Software

In the device-manager the CD-DVD-Drive is found as Pioneer BD-RW BDR-UD02D
I can't find any software to burn CDs, DVDs or Blu-Ray-Disks.
I can't find any driver/software in the download-area of Toshiba for my Notebook
    Satellite P50t-B-108 for this BD-RW.
    Can anybody help me please
    R.Buchholz

According notebook specification your machine has BD optical disc drive inside and can read BD but it can write CDs and DVDs media only.
On many notebooks original recovery image contains some additional burning software. On my machine I got Nero burning ROM but I don't know what contains recovery image installed on your machine.
Fact is that this additional software cannot be downloaded additionally so I recommend you to obtain some third part software that you can use with your machine. Of course, as mentioned by Francesco, you can also use Windows options.

  • Satellite P50T-A016 DVD turns on perioically when computer is idle

    Hello,
When the computer is idle, I have noticed that my new Satellite P50T-A016 laptop is DVD drive turns on and checks for a disc is present. I want to prevent this behaviour, however I am unsure if it is OS (windows 8.1) or an installed program. What is triggering this DVD drive activation? How can I identify what is causing this behaviour?
    Regards
    Graham

Yes, when the TPCH service is disabled/stop, the periodic activation of the DVD drive stops.
When the "PC Health monitor" application is started, the TPCH service is automatically restarted. Looking at the application, it gives no information about the "health" of DVD drive, yet it checks the DVD drive. Strange. It would be nice for the "PC Health monitor" application to have a setting that can disable the DVD checking.
    Thanks for the information.

  • Satellite P50T-A-125 - Wi-Fi Connectivity issues

I am having major issues connecting to WiFi with a Satellite P50t-A-125 laptop.
We have 3 of these laptops in the house, but only having WiFi connectivity problems with one of them.
It doesn't matter where the laptop is located (i.e. house, hotel, overseas etc ), the problem is the same.
It will connect to the WiFi local 'hot spot' / hub, but will not connect to the internet and the "limited connectivity" message comes up.
This is a very annoying and time consuming problem, any help or advice in resolving it would be greatly appreciated.
    Best regards - SSG.

    Hi
I think you should start with WLan driver update.
Mostly such limited connection issues could be solved by Wlan driver updates.
From my knowledge the notebook was equipped with Intel Wireless-N 7260 Plus Bluetooth Wlan card
The newest driver for this Intel page could be downloaded from Intel website:
    [Intel Wireless-N 7260|https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+ Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+Wi-Fi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Wireless-N+7260&ProdId=3713&LineId=1784&FamilyId=1783]
    Feedback appreciated

  • Touchpad and touchscreen not working-Satellite C55Dt-B5205

I just purchased a Satellite C55Dt-B5205 on Tuesday, ran all the updates, and everything was working fine. I upgraded to Windows 10, and now my touchpad and the left/right buttons do not work at all. The touchscreen works on everything except only intermittently on the Google Chrome browser (at least everything that I've tried). I have tried enabling the touchpad, but it says it's already enabled. So then I tried turning my computer off, unplugging everything, taking the battery out, and holding the power key for 30 seconds. That didn't work either. (It was an idea I found online.) I've also tried the F5 button, that does nothing also. The touchpad DOES work when I restart the computer, at the screen where I have to sign in to the computer, but once I sign in, it not longer works.Any help would be greatly appreciated, and just FYI, I'm not hugely computer savvy, so clear instructions would be better.

I did some research last night. On Tom's hardware forum under post "Touchpad scroll not working - Windows 10" yoko_oh_no had a similar issue with their Satellite M-50-A and solved the problem with an earlier version of Elantech touchpad drive "Elantech_Touchpad_11.8.24.6". I've downloaded (from elsewhere) and installed this driver* 11.8.24.6 and all's fine on Windows 8.1 but I don't particularly want to re-install Windows 10 on my Satellite S50D-B-100 and find I've still got a problem with a non functioning touchpad. Perhaps someone who currently has Win 10 on their Satellite with a non working touchpad could give it a go? Important: Before trying the above first of all ensure that you have an Elan touchpad - not a Synaptics touchpad.Go to Control Panel and search for device manager, click on "Mice and other pointing devices" and check that it says Elan PS/2_SMBus Port Input Device or similar. *The only Elan downloadable drivers that showed for Satellite S50-B family on Toshiba Support (Computer Support -> Download Drivers) for my 64 bit Windows 8.1 were 11.8.22.3 and 11.8.29.5

  • T440s - Windows 7 touchscreen support

    Hello all,
I am having quite the time trying to get our T440s models to recognize the touchscreen.  It doesn't respond to touch and under system in control panel claims that there is not pen or touch device available on this computer.  In programs and features, Tablet PC options are enabled in Turn Windows Features on or off.
Can anyone confirm if the touchscreen simply is not supported under Windows 7?  No device needs a driver under device manager.  Firmware is at the latest at the time of this post (v2.23).  At a loss with this one.  This is using our custom image and the Windows 7 image that came installed on the laptop.  I'm going to install Windows 8 just to test, but we can't use Windows 8 for the laptops intended purposes.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I bought at 440s build with the 1080p IPS touchscreen and with 8.1Pro so I could get a "downgrade" license to 7.  Called Support the minute it arrived and they sent me a set of restore DVDs for the machine with 7 Pro on it the touchscreen works just fine.  Plus I don't have to endure that crap excuse of an interface called Windows 8, but that's another story...
Perhaps it's something to do with your image of 7 that's missing a driver? If Device Manager doesn't even know to look for a device, it won't tell you it's a bad driver either.

  • Satellite P50t - how caching SSD is built in?

    Hi,
I am considering to buy a P50t, with the 1TB HDD and 8gb caching SSD.
I have searched this forum and the web, but was unable to determine how the SSD is built into the laptop.
I know other laptops the caching SSD is plugged into a mini PCIe slot using mSata with the formfactor M2. 2242 (or NGFF 42mm).
Is there anyone that can confirm Toshiba is doing the same?
I want to know, since I would like to upgrade the caching SSD to a 128gb version.
    Thanks in advance!

    Just bought the P50t-A0EE
