Intermittent 'Unable to read file' error when exporting/opening .html to .xls

Hi, hope someone can help.
I have an issue where I export a report from the Salesform platform to Excel. The file that is being exported is in html format and the report does not include any Pivot tables.
The 'Unable to read file' error occurs intermittently, when Excel is already open and you export/open it from Salesforce...
Have tried using Excel in safe mode with all the add-ins disabled and still no joy. The
Do not save encrypted paged to disk option has been un-ticked the in Internet Options -> advanced.
The issue happens in IE and other browsers, after raising the issue with Salesforce support they advised to raise the issue with MS instead, so here I am to see if anyone can help!
Any help would be much appreciated

Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "Do not save encrypted files to disk"
check your GPO settings to see if you have configured this to be unchecked.
Thx.

  • "Unable to read file" error in Excel 2010 when downloading .xls file from IE11

    We have lots of reports that have links for our users to be able to download report results in Excel format. We accomplish this by using the Excel mime type in our .asp pages. Sporadically, we are seeing "Unable to read file" errors in Excel 2010
    after choosing Open from the IE11 save dialog. Choosing Save/Save As and the file will open just fine.
    Also, we can sometimes cause the error to occur more frequently by switching windows during the time when the file is downloading.
    If the file is opened directly from /Temporary Internet Files then it opens just fine.
    Window 7 64-bit
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    I found you replied in a similar thread, did you try the workaround (Reset the IE) that provided there? Did you change a browser to test?
    Then, I suggest we use Process Monitor to do further troubleshooting. Please collect all the actions of IE.exe and Excel.exe, and check the if there are some
    error message/code during you open XLS file from IE 11.
    Hope it's helpful.

  • In aperture 3.4.5, I get unsupported file error when exporting version of photo I've edited using plugins?

    In aperture 3.4.5, I get unsupported file error when exporting version of photo I've edited using plugins. I have try reinstalling aperture three times, deleting plists a few times, reinstalling plugins, restarting my MacBook Pro many times. Everything I've tried may fix the problem for a very short while and I can export a few photos before it returns. The problem happens with topaz and photomatrix pro plugins after I edited and try to export version.

    I had the same problem with the Photomatix plug-in and this solved it for me. I realised it only happened with Photomatix and not other plug-ins so I checked where the plug-ins were installed. The Photomatix plug-in was installed in
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
    where ~ is the home location for the current user account. All the other plug-ins however were installed in
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
    which is the location that makes them available to all user accounts on your Mac. Moving the Photomatix plug-in to this location solved the problem for me.
    Note that the Library directory under the first location is normally hidden, to get to it hold down the Option (Alt) key and select it from the Finder Go menu.

  • Float4() causes "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player

    Simple test
    <languageVersion : 1.0;>
    kernel untitled
    <   namespace : "Your Namespace";
        vendor : "Your Vendor";
        version : 1;
    >
        input image4 src;
        output pixel4 dst;
        void
        evaluatePixel()
            dst = float4(sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));
    The above code will produce a "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player in Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5.449694.
    "dst = (sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));" works fine. And anything like "float4 a= float4(b);" will give same error.

    Thank you for the error report.  I'll put it into our bug database.  We're bottling things up for the current version.  Gven the workaround, it is unlikely we'll be addressing this bug soon.  Please accept my apologies for the annoyance this will cause.
    In your second example, float4 a = float4(b), does it return an error if b is only a float4 or regardless of what b is?  If b is a scalar float, for example, is the conversion performed correctly? If so, this could be an error that only crops up when using constructor/conversion syntax when the thing being converted is already the correct type.
    Thanks,
    Chuck.

  • "Unable to create volume" error when exporting

    Exporting photos from iPhoto gives me the "unable to create Volume" error. iPhoto and Mountain Lion are the latest versions, and most recent updates. Library of 30,000 images is currently on an NAS. Destination drive is formatted Mac OSX Extended (Journaled, Encrypted).
    Library has already been rebuilt. No change.
    PNGs have been deleted from library. No change.
    Tried batch re-titling every image in the library library, and exporting so that exported files were named according to title, followed by a number--thus no two files would have the same name. No change.
    Any suggestions?

    Library of 30,000 images is currently on an NAS.
    Likely cause right there.
    iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
    Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • Getting "Unable to create VOLUMES/" error when exporting photos

    I am trying to export a number of photos from iPhoto '08 to a USB stick that has been freshly formated with FAT 32. When iPhoto reaches a photo that has a vertical orientation the export stops and throws this error:
    "Unable to create VOLUMES/JUMP DRIVE/filename"
    These photos were taken with a Canon Powershot SD700IS. The camera has the ability to sense orientation when the picture is taken. It will automatically rotate pictures that were taken while holding the camera on its side. If the picture was taken with a horizontal (normal) orientation the export is successful.
    I was able to work around this by opening the offending files in Preview and saving them from there. Obviously this is a time consuming extra step that shouldn't be necessary.
    If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them!
    Thanks!

    Then you have a managed library.
    Go to your Pictures Folder. There you'll see the icon for your iPhoto Library. Right Click on that icon and select 'Show Package Contents' from the resulting menu. A Finder window will open and you'll see your Library internals. Have a look for the /Originals Folder. Inside it will be the folders for your Events. These should include the full sized photos.
    If they do, then
    Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
    To create and populate a new library:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
    In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
    Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD

  • Unable to read file - opening a html file with excel

    Hi all,
    I have the next issue:   I have developed a report on HTML format, however when I export this one (to excel) I save the file with a 'xls' extension, however, (in excel 2007), when I try to open the file I get the error "Unable to read the
    file".
    can you help me with this issue?

    Hi,
    Did you create a PivotTable report in the file? As your description, the HTML format could be used correctly in Excel 2007. Did you get the other error message?
    Such as,Unable to read file.
    When you click OK,   you receive the following error message:
    Errors were   detected in '<var>filename</var>.xls', but Microsoft Excel was   able to open the file by making the repairs listed below. Save the file to make   these repairs permanent.
    PivotTable report   '<var>report_name</var>' on   '[<var>filename</var>.xls]worksheet_name' was discarded due to   integrity problems.
    Please try to use the workaround:
    Turn off AutoRecovery when you work with any workbooks.Click Excel button>Excel options>Save>Uncheck AutoRecovery
    Following this, if the issue exists, I recommend you fix the issue the following KB:

  • Error when exporting file from LR5.2 - file created

    After updating to LR5.2, I receive an error when exporting files to another disk drive.  a file is created, but a warning appears "Unable to Export:  "An internal error has occurred: Win32 API error 2 ("The system cannot find the file specified.") when calling ShellExecuteExW from AgWorkspace.shellExecute".  I also have CC iunstalled for other applications, but originally installed LR5 as a standalone Adobe application.  I tried removing the program and reinstalling through CC, with no change in this behavior.

  • Error when exporting to flat file in ODI 11g

    This works ok in ODI 10g. I'm using IKM SQL to File Append on Windows Server 2008 R2
    Getting the following error when exporting to a flat file in ODI 11g: ODI-40406: Bytes are too big for array
    I've seen a couple of threads like this on the forum, but I've never seen an answer to the problem.

    Problem is with the difference in behaviour for the IKM SQL to File Append KM between 10g and 11g.
    Our 10g target file datastore had a mixture of fixed string and numeric columns. Mapping from the source to target was simple one to one column mapping. It generated the desired fixed format flat file; numerics were right adjusted with embedded decimal point and leading spaces. Each numeric column in the generated flat file occupied the exact space allocated to it in the layout. This gave the desired results, even though documentation for the 10g IKM states that all columns in the target must be string.
    When we converted to 11g and tried to run this interface, it generated an error on the "numeric" columns because it was wrapping them in quotation marks. The result column was being treated as string, and it was larger than the defined target once it acquired those quotation marks.
    In order to get 11g to work, I had to change all the numeric columns in the target data store to fixedstring 30. I then had to change the mapping for these numeric columns to convert them to right adjusted character strings (i.e. RIGHT(SPACE(30) + RTRIM(MyNumericColumn),30).
    Now it works.

  • Error 16: unable to read file

    Hi,
    when opening this file in adobe acrobat x pro, everything goes well. But as soon as my employee starts to edit the file, like cutting a page out of it, he gets error 16: unable to read file. There's pretty no more information to give you, it's as simple as that?! It's with one file only, so far, others work great.
    Anyone any idea what is happening here?
    Thanks,

    Robert
    would there be any red flag, so to speak, other than file size, to tell me I've found what I'm looking for?Not knowing the program, I don't know what it might name its temporary files, if any, so size would be the best indicator.
    Is there any particular place I should look for the temporary fileWell, there are standard places where Unix puts temporary files, /tmp and /var/tmp, but you can't navigate to these by icon since they are normally invisible. However, in WhatSize …
    Click on the Folder icon, then (with cursor already in the Search box) type '/'. A sheet with "Go to the folder" drops down. Complete the path to say "/tmp" and click "Go", when you'll get a column view of the contents which you can navigate normally, then "Open" to see details. You can do the same with "/var/tmp". Probably the files you see here will be quite small, but you may be lucky.

  • 'file could not be written due to an error' when exporting jpg

    I'm working with an Illustrator file in CS2 and after a certain point it has started saying 'the file could not be written due to an error' when exporting to a jpg.
    i've tried a couple things like deleting layers and although the file is much smaller, it still says the same error when exporting.
    at its highest it was 130mb as an illustrator file and jpgs were 2-5mb.
    i''ve tried copying some of the layers into a new file but the error report still comes when i'm exporting.
    i have vector and raster based data in the file and tried turning off/deleting either of the layers and there is no difference.
    i don't understand why it's started doing this because before it had no problem at all exporting before.
    ANY IDEAS ANYONE?  I'm trying not to have to reproduce days of work to remake the file.
    many thanks,
    P

    Mylenium,
    Sounds like you know a good deal about this product.  Is there any way to restore a color profile/setting to an earlier point?
    I don't recall changing it and to tell you the truth, wouldn't be able to say which it may have been set to before - if different.
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Save error when exporting to PNG in Illustrator using a Macbook with Yosemite

    Anybody experience the issue of png being saved with "/" in the beginning of the file name when exporting to png in Illustrator? This only happens when I use my mac not my PC.
    Due to the save error my PC cannot identify the files and when the files are linked in Indesign they are not copied when packaging the indesign file.
    Any advice on the issue are most appreciated

    I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of problem, but the first thing I'd check is the parameter block you're passing the action call. I don't know why it would matter if the dialog appeared or not, unless the export settings block wasn't being filled in with everything it needs?
    You might try recording an export you perform manually via the action palette, and then saving it to a file. You can open it up manually and compare it (even if it's a binary block) to what you're doing in code. You might spot something that way.
    I don't know what else to suggest though. It's unlikely to be an SDK bug, though it could be a bug in the action-aware part of the exporter.
