Intermittently Sticky Keyboard After Sugary Drink Spill.

A few months ago I spilt a sugary fruit drink over my (full size) aluminium keyboard.
I immediately "cleaned" it with a very damp cloth, hoping not only to remove the deposits but also dilute them.
After drying, the keyboard seemed OK except some of the keys had a "sticky" movement and also made a slight "crunchy" sound.
To my relief, after a few days the keys started feeling normal and everything was as good as new.
Then a few weeks later, the stickiness suddenly returned but once again disappeared after a day or two.
Yesterday, the problem returned and I suspect it must be something to do with atmospheric conditions or temperature.
Is it possible to remove the keys to clean underneath?
I have actually heard of the old plastic types of keyboards being washed successfully by putting in a dishwasher but I am not that desperate and don't own such a device!

I have had the same problem with the wireless aluminum keyboard that came with my Imac 27". In my case the drink was coffee with milk and sugar but it only affected 5 or 6 keys.
The solution was: to remove the keycap of each of the sticky keys and then clean it very well with a special product for cleaning computers that I have bought on an Apple premium reseller which is a foam that comes in a spray.
It is made in Denmark but if could find it here in Portugal you should find it everywhere, and I strongly recommend it for cleaning any mac and mirror display (sorry for the pub...).
First, and very carefully, I have removed the bigger parts of coffee with the tip of a cutter and then I used a toothbrush with the cleaning foam followed by a cotton swab with a bit of alcohol. Gently but firmly scrubbed the "hole" where the keys fit several times until all the dark sticky stains were gone. And it worked! No more sticky keys.
I hope it helps.

  • Faults after drinks spill

A glass of win was spilt into our HP Envy DV7 - machine just over 1 year old. Since this, the first problem is a message comes up on start up advising of a cooling fan problem - code 90B. Also the laptop will no longer work from the battery and will not charge (a small red light instead of the white one).
I have clean the insides a best as I can with alcohol cleaner, but the issues are the same.
I did not remove the battery after the drink was spilt - so this could have ruined the battery - are there any suggestions for the cooling fan or the battery?

    Hi Merrygophers,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY dv7 Notebook and getting an error code 90B with the fan. Here is a link to overheating as this might be the cause of the shutting down. If the Notebook has dust on the fans it could be overheating the fan. If that does not help at the end of this document it shows you to do a hardware test.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Fruit Drink Spilled on my MacBook Pro, What do I do?

    Ok,
I never thought I'd be in this situation. A watermellon drink's cup split down the side and spilled out onto my 17" MacBook Pro's keyboard and touchpad. (the laptop was on at the time.) I pulled the battery and cleaned it off as best as I could. It is now sitting on a pile of papertowls.
What do I do? I'm terrified to turn it on (shorting it out). I have no clue what damage,if any, has been done. I am more than certain that Apple Care doesn't cover fruit drink spills. . .
Do I open it up and clean it? If so what is the best way? Does the Genious bar ship out laptops to repair (at my expense)?
I did file a complaint to https://www.econsumer.gov/english/ (The company is based out of Taiwan . . ) This is basically a dead-end I'm sure.
This is a nightmare. (I have a 15" so I'm not without a computer but the 17" was my desktop replacement/has all my data. . . and costs well over 3k all together. . . )
    Advice?

I feel sorry for you old bean, but you might be OK.......you might like to hear my story. I can't blame it on kids, its down to my own clumsy self...
I spilled coffee (pretty bad) all over a very nice Pismo G3, which caused the screen to emit 'digital gunk', starting with a stripe at the top, and creeping all over the screen in about two weeks.
I had to claim on the insurance, which enabled me to get a Titanium Powerbook G4 (The first model, very nice, very thin).
About a week after it had arrived, I managed to spill coca cola (just about the worst thing you could spill apart from acid) all over it. I removed the battery, opened up the keyboard, wiped it with a damp cloth where possible, and passed a hairdryer over it. Then started praying.
When I plucked up the courage to boot it up, it worked fine, apart from a very sticky keyboard. A new keyboard from apple was £400 in them days, so I 'stuck with it' until managing to get a second hand replacement keyboard for £115.
I would be very surprised if your MacBook Pro doesn't survive (maybe minus the keyboard)

  • Problems using Keyboard after installing Snow Leopard

hey Everyone I'm using a 13.3" Macbook Pro (summer 2009) and I recently took the plunge of installing Snow Leopard. I've installed the two new upgrades for it as well, but I am having troubles with my keyboard specifically in regards to copy/pasting, using the command Key short cut and even the delete button.
If anyone is having these problems as well let me know! And also if there are any quick fixes for this.

I'm also having an issue with my keyboard after upgrading to snow leopard, but not on my laptops native keyboard, that works just fine.
My issue is that I switched the Control and Command keys in the Keyboard > Modifier Keys... settings for all of the keyboards in the drop down menu so Control = Command and Command = Control.
This change worked correctly for my native laptop keyboard, but my external aluminum USB Apple keyboard (which is plugged into the USB port of my apple LED Cinema Display monitor) did not switch.
I've reset all of the modifier keys back to default settings and started over again several times, I've switch the USB port my keyboard was plugged into to another port on the monitor and even another port on the laptop, but nothing seems to work. It's driving me crazy, please help!

  • Sites Intermittently Not Responding After Service Pack 2

Got a strange intermittent issue occurring after we upgraded our SharePoint 2010 farm to Service Pack 2.
The upgrade was successful on all of our servers with no errors and generally performance is a little quicker as should be expected. However we have an intermittent issue where some site collections within the main web application become unresponsive.
We have 2 front end servers sitting behind a network load balancer.
All sites have a dedicated content database.
The issue occurs on either front end server.
An app pool recycle fixes the issue until it occurs again, however we can't go recycling app pools constantly during business hours as we have around 3000 users connecting to our SharePoint portal.
ULS logs and event logs don't show anything abnormal really (however just dialled up the logging to verbose to look into it further).
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
By default, the application pool is set to recycle at a specific time automatically in IIS.
So the issue you met may be due to the application pool cannot be recycled automatically or the recycle was crashed.
I recommend to check IIS log for SharePoint web application and
System event logs on the IIS server for the corresponding web application to see the error message.

  • Default Keyboard after Reboot = US on German Lion

    Hallo,
I upgraded my German MacBook to Lion (I downloaded the update in Germany) and see that the default keyboard after a new start / reboot is US. (it wasn't like this with Snow Leopard).
Since my password contains some of those strange international characters, I find it difficult to log in!
After I log in (with my recovery key) everything works how it should.
Does anyone know how I can change this? Is there a setting somewhere?
    thanks for helping,

    Hi,
there doesnt appear to be any such option.
In the login options in Sytem Preferences/Users and Groups  there are available:
    automatic login deactivated/activated
login window shows list of users/name and password
show buttons for sleep, reboot and power off
show input source in login window
    show help for passwords
show menu for fast user change as ...
    use VoiceOver in login window
(I'm freely translating from German here, obviously.)
none of which helps me get the login keyboard to be German.

shut it off, remove the battery if it can be, unplug it from any powersource and don't turn it on again until you get it looked at by a technician at the Apple store or an AASP.

  • ENERGY DRINK spilled on keyboard

Yes, I admit it. I was stupid and had an open can of an energy drink near my computer. The keyboard works fine after I dried it off with a towel (tent method was not used). The laptop was on during the incident and I did turn it off right away. I didn't wait a whole 24 hours, in fact I probably only waited 15 minutes until I booted it up again. Everything is fine except for some sticky keys. Is there something I can do to fix it? Is there a way I can pull them up myself without having to go to a store, because the nearest store is 3 and a half hours away and I need to write papers...I'm in college...HELP ME!

To fix this, I drip a little bit of water (don't drench it) for each key affected and then keep hitting the key until the stickiness is eradicated.

  • One stuck key on iMac keyboard after spill

I took off all the keys, cleaned and replaced after an orange juice spill (ugh!) - but now just the spacebar will not work. I've tried prodding and WD40 but nothing works. All other keys are fine.

Hi redgen, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
    Just the space bar. Amazing.
I saw a thread recently where let it dry for days was helpful. If you don't have a spare keyboard that would probably mean buy a new one unless you can do
w/o the computer for that long.
Adding to your problem is the goo from the OJ. You might want to flush it somehow w water and then let it dry. All very problematic. Bite the bullet and give it up may—ultimately—be the answer. Maybe a spare time research project.

Stabilize, not warp stabilize the shot, make your corrections on a separate layer, then re-introduce the motion to the shot and add it to the new layer. Here's the basic technique on a completely different type of shot.
If there is a big parallax shift in your shot then this technique may not work. If it doesn't work then show is the shot and we can make some other suggestions.

  • Bluetooth keyboard has sticky keys after waking up from sleep!

Hey guys, I'm using the newest Apple bluetooth keyboard (A1314) with an iPad running 4.2.1. The keyboard works great if I'm using it constantly - I can sit for hours and type away with no problems. However, if the keyboard sits for a few moments and goes to sleep, then often when I wake it back up, the keys will "stick". Not physically - just in software. Any key on the keyboard will do it, so I know it's not a particular key causing the problem. If I power cycle the keyboard, it works fine after pairing back up. Batteries are fine.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

I have been having problems with repeating keys on my iPad 2.  I purchased a Zaggmate keyboard case which I love, but the last two weeks, it started repeating keys - not just one key - any key.  The last letter I type before pausing gets repeated and will fill an entire page with that letter.
I tried hooking up my Apple Bluetooth keyboard and the same thing happened.  This leads me to believe that the issue lies with the iPad and not the keyboards.  I've rebooted my iPad and it seems to be accepting the Apple bluetooth keyboard now without repeating keys. In one second, I'm going to fire up the Zaggmate keyboard and see what happens - stay tuned....
Well, I've fired up the Zaggmate and it appears the reboot of the iPad has solved the issue.
Very strange and MORE THAN A LITTLE IRRITATING!
