Internal audio routing

Hi, I'm using a 2.5 intel core i5 iMac running 10.8.4. I use Traktor pro 2 and want to route the record output of traktor into logic. Im trying to use Jack but cannot get the audio into Logic. Can anyone help? Thanks

You can try Soundflower it is a kernal extension that allows routing audio from one app to another.
Its a bit dated and some here will tell you it will cause system problems but I've had it installed since 10.6 (I'm on 10.8.4) and have never had a problem.

In order to record sound and video from my desktop, I installed RecordMyDesktop (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/RecordMyDesktop) and followed the instructions from post #4 and #6 on a thread about "Recording internal audio with alsa and recordmydesktop" (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1359593). I can record from the microphone with with the command "recordmydesktop". I succeeded in recording the internal audio with audacity by choosing the device "looprec" for recordings. I'm not sure why RecordMyDesktop gives an error while Audacity does not. Below is my ~/.asoundrc, which I copied from the aforementioned thread. I am not knowledgeable, but I guess there is a mistake in it? Would you please assist me solving this error? Thank you for your time.

  • Using The Internal Audio

    Hello,
I've been experiencing problems with a third party audio interface, namely Mbox, working smoothly with Logic. It was suggested to me that I should try using the internal audio for working with Logic. I was laboring under the false assumption that the internal sound was only 16bit. I would like some feedback from someone who uses the internal audio in a home studio situation. Namely 1. If possible, how to connect the internal output to an external monitor system. 2. How to connect a preamp for recording through the internal sound. Can this even be done and can I expect results equal to the Mbox?
    Thanks

Actually, it doesn't make a difference if it's a TRS or an XLR. The difference is in the Apogee's inputs. With the One, you have either a instrument quarter-inch input or a Mic XLR input. Neither works with a balanced +4 line signal, which is the signal coming from the Grace. With the Duet, you can switch internally the XLR inputs from Mic to +4db line signal.
Also, I know the Grace preamp is really good but another possibility is to stop using it and plugging your mic directly into the Apogee preamp. I know it can sound weird as a suggestion but you'd be surprised at how good the Apogee pres are. And if you only need one preamp, the One will work for you. One last thing: the Duet is Firewire, the One is USB. That means you should be able to have lower buffer settings with the Duet, hence less lantency.

  • Help! Won't start without internal Audio hard drive

    So here's the issue.
I've been having some problems with my internal Audio hard drive where it will randomly un-mount and I think it might be causing crashes. Anyway, I decided I'd just take it out and use an external drive. When I did that and tried to restart, the computer just loses power. It tries to start and then just shuts off, I never even get anything on my screen.
If I reinstall the drive, the computer starts up.
Also, when I take the drive out, it refuses to start from an external drive or a dvd.
I've tried resetting the PRAM, the NVRAM and the Open Firmware with no results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Yeah, there is. It seems to work fine when the second drive is hooked up and I've made sure it's set up as the boot drive in system preferences. The drive I'm using as the Audio drive is actually the original hard drive that came with the system and the boot drive is a newer SATA drive.
Also, while both internal drives are hooked up, the computer will start either from a DVD or an external hard drive no problem.

  • Need an audio routing utility for intel mac

    hi
i would like to know if there is a utility for intel macs which will allow me to specify which audio output is used by specific applications. to be more specific i would like itunes, DVD player, Eye TV applications output to go via the digital output on my Mac Pro which is linked to my Hifi, and everything else (system sound effects, iChat, etc) to go via the analog output which is linked to small PC speakers.
I am aware of the 'Detour' plugin, which sadly doesn't work on intel Macs, and basically am looking for a similar application for intel Macs
    thanks

I might have an answer. After trying every audio routing program I could find, I poked around in Nicecast. I found a deeply buried menu for an output choice of default or 1/2. It was on default so I chose 1 for left and 2 for right and this accomplished what I need. Until I quit the programs. Then I was back to square 1. I disabled Detour and tried a currently supported program, Jack. jack would not even load the currently running programs to be able to route them. So I went back to Detour and had to add Nicecast to it's list. All is well, I hope
In fact I tried another application at the same time and Detour did what it was supposed to, so it looks like my problem might have been with Nicecast all along, but I set the output back to default and it still worked. Maybe after some updates I just need to reset all the preferences? But Detour has not been supported since 2005 and Jack seems useless.

  • I need an audio routing program for 10.4.11

Something in the Mac OS has changed audio routing capabilities. I do online streaming and use a very simple setup on a 733MHz G4 (digital audio) with iTunes, a Griffin iMic, an external audio mixer and Nicecast. I used to be able to route iTunes out through the iMic to an audio mixer, and route the mixer in through the iMic, select the iMic as the input for Nicecast and route the Nicecast out to the System Out to feed external speakers. Detour did this nicely but it is now unsupported and with a recent OS upgrade the routing ability went away. I have tried Jack, LineIn and SoundSource. Now ALL the audio out is grouped together - it is either all to the iMic or all to the system out.
I would think this should be very simple (it used to be).
I need the external mixer so don't recommend using the voiceover feature on Nicecast (there is a serious latency problem with that too).
    Any ideas?

  • Internal audio has gone missing

Has anyone seen this problem? It's a new MBP and I can't get any internal audio output.

    Hi Tom,
Peek in the digital audio port. Can you see a red light glowing?
If so, a slightly out-of-spec analog audio plug has likely jammed the digital port (tighter specs) in the MUTE position. Apple's official fix is to replace the logic board, but most people area able to fix it by putting a plug in the port and GENTLY wiggling it in the horizontal plane.
I've found with both my MBP and a circa 2003 PowerBook G4 that most analog plugs will deliver proper output and stereo separation long before the stop shoulder on the plug touches the case. The plug is held firmly enough to stay put for normal usage. It's inserting the plug "to the hilt," so to speak, that jams the MUTE contact.
I've taken to putting on headphones or turning on external speakers BEFORE plugging them into my notebooks. I insert the plug slowly until I hear proper sound, then stop pushing. No jams since adopting that procedure.
If there is no red light, I'd head for the Apple Store or AASP. Although some say an SMC reset will fix the muting in the absence of the red light clue, I'd let Apple work on a new computer.
I'll try so get a picture later today of what mine looks like with the plug in a functional position. I recall the stop shoulder being between 1/16- and 1/8-inch from touching the case on either notebook model I have.

  • Internal Audio Output Quality

What exactly is the quality of the internal audio interface for output (e.g. listening with the headphones). What format does it use for output? System Profiler lists PCM16, PCM24 and up to 48KHz. Is that what the DA's are using? Is it converting from 24-bit? I've heard that adjusting the volume decreases bit-depth, is that still the case?

Last week I thought that was the last snow I'd see until next winter... can't say I was surprised though.
I guess I was getting at this: When I decrease the volume on the internal audio interface output, am I decreasing some analog output level, or is the system software doing some nasty stuff? I've read a long time ago that the system actually reduces the bit depth to acheive a reduced level. All this sounds bizarre to me, but I was curious if anyone knew?
I doubt I'll ever plug output right into the internal output of the computer, because I really like having a nice knob to adjust SPL with.
    Thanks.

  • Internal Audio Ca

What does an internal audio cable do? As i have one but i dint plug it in, since u put it in the CD dri've, but i didnt and i can still listen to CD music and DVD videos

You used to have to connect those to get sound from your audio CDs, but nowadays (like in WindowsXP) that sound goes over the IDE cable so that cable is not needed.

  • Internal audio problem

my internal audio is not working. whenever i record voice through youcam or any recording. Only my External audio and bluetooth headset is in the list of my audio devices. please help me with this.. Thanks..

If you have one internal drive, it is the system drive. Partitioning does not change that fact. Indeed, all it does is make the drive work harder as the heads have to cover a wider path than if there was only one partition.
The external drive should be the media capture drive and if it is not perfoming adequately it is probably because you are using a Canon and it does not play well with other devices on the same bus.
    Two suggestions:
    1. get a PCI firewire card for your computer to create a second bus and hang the camera off of it.
    2. get a copy of VolumeWorks. It will allow you to change your partitions on the fly without reformatting the main system drive - remember, the partition is NOT another drive even though the icon makes it look like one on the desktop.
Once you have a clean capture path, I'll wager dollars to donuts many of your playback issues will be resolved as well.
    good luck.

  • Internal audio recording

How do I record internal audio from rpm and from browser
Is this possible I've never used Mac before 2weeks ago

  • Recording Internal Audio?

Hi, sorry if this is a newbish question, but it is possible to record internal audio from the macbook air's speakers? (ex: the audio from a certain part of a video on youtube) I've tried Quicktime Pro and Audacity, but both use the external microphone, so I can hear myself cough, but not the audio from the computer. On windows there was an option in sound to switch to built in audio which would allow a program like camstudio to record the internal audio, is this possible on mac?

When using a Bluetooth hands free in my car with my iPhone 6, It doesn't appear there's a setting to default to use the BT hands free first, and then when I'm not in my car, use the speaker on the phone. Seems like something is missing in the General/Accessibility/Call Audio Routing settings.

I Should add that the source I use most in this situation is my iPad air 2 steraming to myATV from both iTunes and Amazon music.
