INTERNAL Blu-Ray burners.

Forum,
Does any one know of an internal Blu-Ray burner which is compatible with Mac Pro?
LiteOn tell me their products are not cmpatable.
Thanks,
Michael.

Hi gogiangigo,
I looked in the archives and found a reference to internal Blu-Ray burners which are compatible with Mac Pro.
Choose Pioneer Blu-Ray BDR-205 which Amazon will deliver on Tuesday.
LG Super Multi Blue OEM is also suitable for Mac Pro but was not available from Amazon.
The USA OWC site is very useful.
So ,hopefully using Toast 10 I will be able to write Blu-Ray discs.
Do you think I should retain the original DvD writer in addition to the Blu-Ray burner?
I suppose Toast will give an option on which burner to use.
Many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Michael.

  • Please Suggest a Compatible Internal Blu Ray Burner to buy for PE13 with Windows 7

Can anyone tell me brands and models of currently sold internal Blu ray burners that are compatible with Premiere elements 13 using Windows 7? The list on the Adobe website seems to be outdated models. So far I have tried the Pioneer BDR-2209 and the LG WH16NS40 and both are recognized as drives by PE 13  but display "media not present" when a Blu Ray disc is inserted.  I need to be able to burn blue ray discs from my PE 13 software. Which model internal drives are you having success with? Thank you!!!

    Premiere Elements 13 Windows 7 64 bit.
I have been using a LG Blu-ray DVD burner (12X) successfully for Premiere Elements 4 through 13. But, as far as I know, this brand/model is no
    longer sold.
The "Media Not Present" issue is not unique to Premiere Elements 13, and I question whether one fix or suggested burner is a universal solution.
Suggestions before buying any more burner for this purpose...
    1. Explore other brand/type Blu-ray discs
    2. Uninstall Premiere Elements 13 (usual Control Panel way), do a free ccleaner run through CCleaner - Download
and the reinstall the program with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
If "2" does not work, then delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file found
    Local Disc C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    13.0
and in the 13.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 13.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
    3. If all else fails (or before doing all of the above), determine if the Burn To: ISO Image works for Blu-ray.
You can take that ISO Image and get it to Blu-ray disc using a program such as ImgBurn. (Install ImgBurn with great care
since it comes with "baggage of carry along programs" if you do not make the right choices in the download and install.)
Please review and consider the above. Right now, finding the one size fits all Blu-ray player in your specific computer environment may prove
    frustrating.
    More later.

  • Internal blue ray player?

Is there an internal blue ray available for my macbook pro? Or software to play a blue ray disc?

No, there is no way to play a Blu-Ray disc in the MBP's internal drive, and I haven't heard of any internal Blu-Ray drive replacement option. The best you can do is an external drive and some third-party software that, last I heard, was new and still a little wobbly on its pins. See "more like this" at right.

  • Are there any Installation instructions for adding an MCE internal Blu-Ray burner to a Mac Pro(2013) running OS X Montain Lion?

Looking for any installation instructions or assistance in adding hardware (MCE internal blu-ray burner multi-drive14x) to my Mac Pro system running the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion.

Ask the vendor if they provide installation instructions. Otherwise, do a Google search for links on installing optical devices in a Mac Pro.

  • Can I replace my optical drive with internal blu-Ray player?

Basically what the question says. I have a MacBook Pro mid-2009, and I'm wondering if I can replace the optical drive with an internal blu-ray drive.  I would want to be able to read and write to regular CD and DVD still though, that's a must. Also, if there is an internal drive I can put in, will OSX Mavericks support playing a blu-ray movie just because my computer can read it?
Thanks for any knowledge or advice you guys can offer!

    No.

  • C55DT-B5208 internal blu-ray burner?

I have a Satellite C55DT-B5208 and am wondering if it's possible to install an internal blu-ray burner. If so does anyone know of a decently priced one that would work in this model?
    Thanks for any help!

    Satellite C55Dt-B5245 (PSCN6U-008002)  <-- Has ODD
I don't know about Blu-ray, but the model above in your same part-number family has an optical drive. So you should be able to install the same one.
If you want to pursue it, call a parts vendor and ask them to look up that second model. (It's too new to be listed there.)

  • List of compatible Blu-Ray burners

I'm trying to find which Blu-Ray burners are supported. Specifically, I'd like to know if the LG GGC-H20L is supported. If not, is there a current list out there somewhere?
    Thanks.

    Supported for what?
Disc burning for SD DVDs, or for blu ray data DVDs?
Can you be a little more specific?
    And for what hardware?

  • Install an internal blu-ray burner on a 24' iMac 2.4 Ghz

Been trying to find an internal blu-ray burner drive to install on my 24 inch iMac 2.4. Does anyone know of an internal drive I can use. Thanks all.

Get a Panasonic UJ-235 (SATA) or UJ-225 (ATA). I installed one in my 27" iMac. It works like it came from Apple. Any 12.5 mm slot loading optical drive will work in an iMac, but the best option is the UJ-235. Your best bet on finding one is on ebay as they aren't redily avaliable for retail purchase as they are mainly for oem aplications. Wait, check to see if you optical drive is sata or ide, if it is ide you can't use the UJ-235, it will take the UJ-225. the way to check is in the sytem information. Look under ATA, if it is your current superdrive will be listed there adn go with the UJ-225. then check serial-ATA, if the suoerdrive is listed there then go with the UJ-235. Toast will burn a bluray, makemkv will rip one, and Mac BluRay palyer will play it. You can do a decrypted rip an clone a commercial blu ray with MakeMKV and toast. But there is no reson to do that because the blank double layer discs are more expensive than buying the movie. Also Handbrake is now bluray ready, you have to do a decryted rip first. But you can make a m4v file that is much better than ones you purchase on itunes. itunes only has them in 720p right now but you can make them in 1080p with handbrake, and incrase the bitrate. Granted, it will take about 12 hours with the 2.4 dual core intel, but it will do it. I have the 3.4 i7 with 32 gb of ram and it takes about 3 hours. I heard a 12 core mac pro can do it in 20 min, so long as the ram is maxed out at 96 gb. But my set up ran about $4,000 and the mac pro set up like that will push $10,000.
Really, your best bet is to use a full speed external through firwire 800 or usb2. The read and burn speed is determined by the drive anyway and those fullsized drives are so much faster than laptop internal drives that the iMac uses.

  • Internal Blu-Ray options?

I'm looking to purchase an internal Blu-Ray burner for my pre-2009 MacPro. Anyone out there have any recommendations? Thanks!

That's a SATA drive, which should work in the 2009 Mac Pro's, but the 2008 model like I have and the OP is IDE. Any IDE options left? Looks like most of them are NLA.
That's a drive kit that includes a SATA to 4-pin power adapter and a cable to the SATA ports on the main logic board It will work in any Mac Pro (with OSX).

  • Internal blu-ray

Are there any internal blu-ray drives that will work with the mac mini?
    Thanks,
    Glor

cannot run blu ray on a mac at all unless I did something wrong
Completed my testing.. My mission was to watch a non ripped blu ray on my mac using a USB external blu ray player, Sony/NEC JV edition.

Short Version - There appears no way to play a blu ray on a mac unless you rip it. Period ... but I tried really.
    Detailed Version
Did some testing today, on a new 4gb mac mini w/ snow leopard and a USB External mac friendly 'labeled' external sony/nec blu ray player. I use the mac mini as a media extender connected to my 52" plasma and back to my 'PC Config'
The 'PC config' is cat5 connected via GIGe from the mac mini back to a Apple Extreme that acts as a network hub connecting to my NAS, (2x2tb raid) & PC (Windows 7 on Quad core 8gb ram 20TB HD (5x 2TB internal and 5 x 2TB external) NAS and ADSL2+ Internet (got all that).
Here are my results; no surprises.
Litmus Test : On a windows 7 PC it lets you play a blu ray disc on it (go figure) or dvd/cd of course.
Test 2 On the Mac it plays a dvd only
Test 3 On the Mac running window 7 in parallels it plays a dvd only
Test 4 On the Mac running windows 7 in boot camp it plays a dvd only
Test 5 On the Mac networked to a PC with the blu ray drive shared it plays a dvd only
Test 6 On the Mac networked to a PC with the blu ray drive shared it plays a dvd only in Parallels 5 and Windows 7
Test 7 On the Mac networked to a PC with the blu ray drive shared it plays a dvd only in boot camp running Windows 7
Software used for windows 7 (pc and in MAC vm) VLC, and Cyberlink Power DVD 10. The mac will run an MKV file (ripped blu ray no problem), too mcuh trouble, I just want to play a blu ray.
Hope to avoid buying another blu ray player.

  • Internal Blu-ray drive upgrade.

Hi, as the ongoing saga of desiring a Blu-ray Read & Write drive in a Macbook Pro 17" is still a painful bag of hurt for many people including myself, I still can't help try and track down a suitable  possible solution and likely contender.
I previously had upgraded the MacBook Pro's internal 2.5" Hard Disk Drive after having learned at the time that the internal cleareance of my early 2009 unibody MBP 17" allowed a capacious maximum form-factor 'thickness' of 12.5mm instead of the usual 9.5mm for an internal HDD. This was an extremely rewarding piece of info and allowed me to grace the MBP with a 1TB HDD inside, which is absolutely fantastic especially when using space for Bootcamp and of course dealing with Hi Definition video files using FCS, in which you can 'never' have enough space for (transcoding into Apple Pro Res can turn out some seriously huge files). The now fitted internal 1TB drive has now enabled the MacBook Pro 17 to become mobile once again and not fully relying on external drives.
    Except Blu-ray.
I'm personally not keen on attaching an external Blu-ray drive which is why I initially got a MBP for mobility and therefore still looking for an eventual compatible internal version. The irony is that Final Cut Studio can edit and process Hi Definition Media, albeit without proper large optical-disc storage media to store it on and FCS's Compressor will even transcode it to Blu-ray format and burn on output to Blu-ray disc (even has a Blu-ray New Batch template). Toast 10 & 11 Titanium deals with Blu-ray (via it's Blu-ray plugin). Therefore it continues to be a painful legacy that the MBP is devoid of one.
My question is this, if upgrading the internal Super-drive to another optical drive, what are the exact dimension restriction and therefore the allowed thickness form-factor for a slot-loading optical drive on it's 'own' and with it's securing bracket/bezel. Is the bracket/bezel a standard fixture that will de-assemble and be re-used with a new replacement, or would any replacement drive come with a new suitable on affixed.
Any thoughts on the following two likely contenders. The first drive by FastMac Reads & Writes Blu-ray, the second drive by Sony Reads Blu-ray only but both makes read & write DVD's (no doubt Sony has a writeable slot-loading version somewhere buried within one of their Web Site because I had a Sony Laptop about 4 or 5 years ago that burned Blu-ray). The FastMac drive looks promising if the company is legit:-

It doesn't matter if for at least the immediate time being, it may not be actually possible to play Blu-ray movies within OS X lacking the kernels for it. If a compatible drive was found, then the rewards are:-
Storing massive amounts of data (up to 50GB on one disc). Fantastic fro backups and archiving.
Being able to FINNALLY output edited Hi Def video/movies from Final Cut Studio onto a Blu-ray disc and then playing that on a dedicated external Blu-ray player elsewhere.
Booting-up in Bootcamp for attempting to play-back Blu-ray movies using windows drivers, software and built-in OS kernels. (I'm not a Windows person, but can't deny it can save the day where some things are concerned)
Future-proofing; if one day soon Apple smiles on us all and releases a system OS update that enables 'full' Blu-ray support (or some other upgrade)

I have noted that on numerous wish lists for Mac enhancements has been Blue Ray capability.  I looked at the Fast mac web site and the specifications were impressive.  When I saw the price, I had to have the Heimlich maneuver performed.  This is not to dissuade you or anyone else to purchase one.  It simply is a reflection of my cheapness ex. for me SSD are overpriced for the value received but I take no issue for those who but them.
What I find to be very peculiar is the issue of apparent compatibility with only pre-unibody MBPs.  We know that these MBP are slower than the subsequent generations.  Blu-ray vidio files are huge. To load, tranferr, edit and compile these such files is best served with a fast processor.  To install this on an older MBP seem like simultanously  taking a step forward and a step backward.
Your list of virtues has merit but I have to take exception with your 'Future Proofing'.  Apple has a habit of going down the road less traveled.  If and when they integrate Blu-ray capability in their MBPs, it does not follow that the Fast Mac drive will be the same or have software compatibility.
I have both a pre-unibody MBP and a unibody MBP.  I have changed the optical drive on the old machine and I have just looked inside the newer one (when I upgraded the HHD).  They both APPEAR to be identical but I suspect there may be subtle physical differences.  Hence this may be the reason why it can be installed only pre-unibody MBPs. (I can be bribed to take the both out and compare them!)
I would suggest to contact the technical department at OWC and find out if they are familiar with this product and what opinions they may have.  I have dealt with them on several occasions and they seem knowledgeable.
    Ciao.

  • What Blu-Ray Burners are compatible with Mac?

Any suggestions on what type of external blu-ray players are compatible with the iMacs?

Same Samsung SH-B123L Blu-Ray player has worked for me in Windows 7, Lion, and Mountain Lion. So, if you had this connected and dual-booted using Boot Camp, it would be a one device solution. Use MacGo Blu-Ray software. The player is a powered USB connection. OS X DVD player also thinks it is an internal Apple device and just works without a whimper. Fast device. 16x DVD burn. 48x read. Take it out of the box and plug it in. The operating system just recognizes it.
If you point the MacGo Blu-ray software at movies stored in your local network, it will play them too.

  • Install video for internal blu-ray drive

I just bought an internal LG GGW-H2OL Blu-ray and found a few install instructions on the web that I'm not willing to try (removal of memory cards, getting to the motherboard..etc )
Can anybody recommend a Blu-ray burner that's plug and play with my Mac Pro ? Installing memory and add't hard drives was a breeze. I was hoping that the blu-ray would be just as easy.
I loved the lightscribe software that allows me to etch photos onto the disc.
    thanks.

It's not the optical drive that's hard to install, it's connecting the sata cable to the logic board which is a pita..
Depending on what MP you have (2006 or 2008), the installs are little easier. The 2008 install is the easiest.
Here are some vids for reaching the ODD sata port.
    (2008)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfIfHuM9I6g
(2006) a little more harder, but not really. TIP: you don't really need to remove the fan module, just the top screw. It will give you enough play to insert the sata cord. The vids is not in english, but it doesn't matter, just look at the pics.

  • Replacement of Superdrive with internal Blu-Ray Rewriter?

I have an older Mac (Mid-2007) and I wanted to change the pre-installed Superdrive with this Blu-Ray internal rewriter, http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Arrival-100-Original-Slot-Load-BD-DVD-Rewrite r-UJ-225-PATA-Blu-ray-disk-Burner/168556
But I believe that the Superdrive is 9mm, would this work, (as the drive is 12.7mm).
Any help is appreciated, Thank You

To my knowledge Apple Mac OS X does not support Bluray at all. There may be an aftermarket program you could use but I'm not sure.
Also I doubt you will find a BR drive that will fit inside the space allotted for the Superdrive.
