"internal disk space needs repair" Time Capsule error message
I had successfully transfered my entire iTunes library to my TC. Worked without a hitch for a week.
Today, I downloaded an album FROM iTunes. In the middle of the download, it froze. I noticed I was dismounted and my TC light had turned orange (now blinking) and I received the mesage "internal disk space needs repair."
From what I've read on this board, I'm supposed to reformat my TC and start again. That's an unacceptable solution. Is there another way?
Also does anyone have experience in archiving their TC? And will that preserve my precious (to me anyway) iTunes library?

Your backups are in a +sparse bundle+ on your Time Capsule's internal HD. That's what appears on your desktop and/or Finder sidebar when Time Machine is doing a backup (unless you've told the Finder not to show them). If it currently appears, just eject it, then right-click the TM icon in your Dock and select +Back Up Now.+
For the +TM Buddy+ widget, click your mouse on the words "Click here" in my previous post (anything on these forums that's shown in blue or purple, and is underlined when your mouse passes over it, is a "clickable link" -- clicking on it will take you to that web page.
On that page, click the Download button towards the upper right. That will download and install it. Then press whatever key or mouse button you have set up for Dashboard and select +Time Machine Buddy.+ You'll see a display like the one pictured on the web page.
If it doesn't show the box with messages, click the "disclosure" triangle to the left of the word Messages. That should show the messages for the last backup attempt. Click in the message area, and it should be outlined in blue (as shown on the web page). Then click Cmd-A to +Select All+ (and the whole background will turn blue), then Cmd-C to Copy to your clipboard.
Then come here to post a reply, and when this box is outlined in blue, press Cmd-V (or select Edit > Paste from the menubar) to paste the messages here.

The time capsule was used with my prior Mac Pro laptop that unfortunately had the home vault active on it.
My new Mac Book Pro does not have home vault open. But I am unable to back up my new MAC pro laptop because it says there is not enough storage space available. Therefore, t there any way to just completely delete all the old backup data out of my Time Capsule from my prior Mac Laptop?

Here is how to do this:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click the Disks icon at the top of the AirPort Utility window
Click the Disks tab below the icons
Click Erase
The "Quick Erase" option will only take a moment or two
Now you can backup your MacBook Pro. If you connect an Ethernet cable from the MBP to one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC, the first backup will go 3-5 times faster than wireless.
Once you have the first backup done, you can use wireless for subsequent backups since they will only take a few minutes -
Disk Utility stops repairing Time Capsule backup with no info
After having problems backing up to a long-term stable backup on TC, I have tried using Disk Utility to repair the sparsebundle.
The repair begins, but never finishes. And no details are left in DU to decode what happened.
Does this mean sparsebundle corrupt? Or a problem with DU?Sugith Varughese wrote:

No. There may be nothing at all wrong with the TC or sparse bundle. We need to know why it failed. Without the actual message(s), we're shooting in the dark. Start with #C2 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting. It will show you how to locate the message(s) that describe the problem, then help you fix it.
If that doesn't help, post back with details, including all the messages, your setup, what you've done, and the results. -
Cannot Access Airport Disk on Time Capsule(Error Message 67)
Hi I'm having a few issues connecting to the Airport disk on my Time Capsule.
Every time I start my computer The Airport Base Station Agent says:"The Airport Disk "Nasim's Time Capsule" became available. What do you want to do? And I click "Connect with Password" I enter the correct password and I receive a message that says: "Unknown user,incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact the disk's administrator (67)."
Is this possible to fix?(I have reset it about 4 times, each time after I have set it up I try to connect ends up wit the same message)Welcome to the discussions!
There are 2 passwords for the Time Capsule
One is a device password, which allows access to the TC. The other password is for your wireless network.
Might you be confusing these two? If you have not setup a device password, I believe that the default is "public".

Will Lion Install Consume a lot of Disk Space in my Time Capsule?
I have a 500 GB iMac which is about 2/3 full and a 1T Time Capsule which is a little over half full. I'm getting ready to install Lion. As far as by backups go, is this just another backup or will it consume a much bigger part of my TC since it is a major upgrade?
Should I just upgrade and not worry about disk space?After installing Lion TM will then backup all the new system files which can amount to about 6-8 GBs.

Please help! Got myself a timecapsule a few months back. I just use it to back up my mac, and also have a wireless printer connected. I have a Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7.3). When I first got my Time Capsule it backed up flawlessly, but in the last few months has started showing the message above. So now it wont back up at all.
Have done probably 2 system updates during this time, and even a firmware update a few days ago for the timecapsule. This recent firmware update seem to fix it for a day, but now the problem is back!!! Even Mac support wasnt able to help last time I called.

Time Capsule error message when away from home network
I have a Time Capsule on my home network. When I am home, my MacBook backs up to it with Time Machine perfectly. However, when I am at work or away from home, I continually (every hour or so) get an error message stating the following:
The was a problem connecting to the server "OurTimeCapsule.local".
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
The problem isn't that I don't understand this error. I know perfectly well that my Time Capsule isn't available on my work network, and I don't expect it to be. Prior to installing Lion I never saw this error, and with every update I hope it will be fixed, but I still see it with 10.7.2. Obviously Apple knows that people using Time Capsules to back up their laptops will not always be on the network that contains the Time Capsule - they even made changes in Lion to save backups to a local disk in times when the Time Machine disk isn't available.
What I want to do is supress the error somehow - it is a modal dialog that sits on top of whatever I'm doing and is extremely disruptive, especially when giving a presentation. Anyone know how to stop this error?As a temporary workaround, of course, you can just turn Time Machine OFF.
There was a similar message, with reference to type "file" in the URL, but this one is differnent.
Have you ever used a 3rd-party utility, or followed any instructions to edit some files, to change Time Machine's default behavior? -
Real issue its been changed its been geniused its dumb and I'm getting very upet at it.
Questions can I set up this thing as a wireless device and have it nnect to the internet wirelessly as well as have my computer connect to it wirelessly?
Why does it appear to retain all previous profiles everytime I try to restore the factory settings?
Why does it not work? Is there a real Mac genius out there who would kindly walk me through this in a non-technical way?
Thanks for assisting!!My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

How to resolve the following time capsule error message:
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/XXXX Computer.sparsebundle” is already in use.If you are running Mountain Lion try this:
Open AirPort Utility (If you are in Mountain Lion this will be 6.0 or Higher)
Select you Time Capsule
Select the Disk Tab
Deselect "Enable File Sharing"
Click OK Let the Time Capsule Re-Boot
Go Back into AirPort Utility and re-select "Enable File Sharing" and let it Re-Boot again.
This should fix the problem.
If you are not running Mountain Lion the advice provided by other should work (http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html). The main thing is to reset users. -
Time Capsule Error: Unable to complete backup...
For the past two days I've been getting the following Time Capsule Error message whenever it attempts to back up my system, "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory." I can't get any more information about the error than that. If I reset my TC, will it lose all of my previous backups? Restarting my Mac didn't help. All other functions are fine, i.e. WiFi is good and I can still print to my printer hooked up to it. Any ideas?
I'm having the exact same problem. If a b/u does kick off, it shuts down the Mac. I get the darkened screen with the window that says a reset is required.
Anyone know how to fix this? -

i have a slow macbook, i ran live disk utilities (from hard drive), turned out I needed to repair disk from a installation disk. Did that, I got the volume (Hard drive) repaired from the installation disk disk. To this point, great!
When I reboot from hdd, then run disk utility, I get the same error message i did b4 repair. I went thru two rounds of this.....

So the error I get is "volume header needs minor repair" and then you need to perform repair from the installation disk message.
I did repair not verify from the disk twice. Every time ending in the "the volume had ha been successfully repaired". Then I reboot from the internal disk. Run disk utilities from it, do verify and get the same error message I got before repair. I hope this can shed some light fr you guys. Sorry I didn't include details in the original

In need to change from appleshare to mac os journaled disk format on my time capsule. How to proceed?
No Time Capsule disk can be formatted other than the automatic system in the TC itself.. You simply select erase and it will reformat the drive.
If you are referring to a USB drive.. plugged into a Time Capsule.. you must plug it into your Mac and use Disk Utility.
However you do need to understand.. appleshare is not a disk format.. it is a partition scheme.. so when you pick the disk you need to change its partition to GUID.. this is nothing to do with Mac OS journaled format.. the two are distinctly different. Also Appleshare works fine for most people.. there really is no need to change.
Anyway here is how to do it.
I have sd card I can use as example. Click on the Partition Layout.. so you can choose something else.. notice it is presently set to Master Boot Record.. but is formatted Mac OS Extended Journaled.
When you change the partition layout Options at the bottom will become active and you can change the setting. Click Options.
Choose whichever. GUID is the current system for boot drives.
None of this is relevant to the internal disk of the Time Capsule. -

This is a complex procedure.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a minute or two
Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
This will fix the issue 98% of the time. If you are in the unlucky 2% category, more help is here from Pondini, the Time Machine guru:
