Internal keyboard ignored during booting
My MBP suddenly ignores any keyboard command during booting like the option-key or cmd-opt-p-r. It only responds to an external usb Apple keyboard. It operates normal under OS X though.
This happened after I tried several times to install Win Vista and Win 7 RC through Boot Camp on the original hdd (320GB Seagate) to no effect.
If I insert the original Vista dvd and press the option-key I can choose between OS X, Windows and EFI. Pressing Windows results in just a black screen, but pressing EFI results in an error screen stating something like BSD (double kernel panic) and then a sort of powerpoint presentation starts: the screen starts in grey and redraws about 10 times from the top to the bottom, every time a little darker until a full black screen. A few months ago this dvd installed just fine on this MBP using a different hdd.
PRAM reset and SMC reset using the external keyboard brought no redemption. Is there some sort of system reset that goes a level or two deeper than these two resets? It seems that EFI is damaged somehow.
Actually, if you cut out all the specs I included, it is simple; regardless of whether I use a wireless combo or simple PS-2 keyboard and mouse directly coupled with no networking between the computers, the keyboard will deactivate on bootup about half the time on either computer. I have also noticed that BIOS checked Soundblaster fails to activate at about the same rate, but not necessarily at the same boot up. This is evident because I have a case bottom speaker that was used for detecting problems at bootup, although MSI does not have a similar program to Soyo Voice Doctor. The speaker still records Soundblaster kick in.

Keyboard input ignored during boot
I'm trying to boot my old 15" Aluminum Powerbook that has Panther (10.3.9) on it into Target Disk Mode by holding down the T key while powering the system on. It never goes into TGM though, and no other boot keys work either. For example, I can't boot single-user by holding down command-s while powering on. I've reset the PRAM (this computer has a history of problems with the PRAM, going to sleep randomly, so that's the first thing I tried).
Any ideas what might cause something like this? I wanted to use the Migration Assistant, but I can't use Firewire because I can't the old computer into TGM and I can't use the network because the old computer has 10.3.9 on it which doesn't have the Migration Assistant app. I've resorted to moving the apps, prefs, etc, by hand, but it's a pain.
Thanks,
-Tim.I can only suggest that you play with the key repeat times in the keyboard system preference.

G62-340US keyboard doesn't work in Windows, only during boot
My HPG62-340US is running Windows 7 64-bit and I have been having an unusual issue with it.
The keyboard works during the boot process. I can enter BIOS, etc and use the laptop keyboard - but when Windows loads, the laptop keyboard becomes inoperative. The touch pad works OK, and the lights work on the keyboard, but the keyboard does not respond when you press any key.
I can attach a USB keyboard, which will work OK. When I press the "caps lock" on the USB keyboard, the light comes on the "caps lock" on the laptop keyboard, but the laptop keyboard does not work. It also will not work in safe mode.
I reinstalled Windows, hoping that would correct the problem, but it did not.
Help!
JimAbout 9 times out of 10, the keyboard wouldn't work. The 1 time that it did, I logged in and removed the password. Updating Dropbox seemed to solve my issue and it had been fine for over a month. However, over this past weekend I decided to install the new Trackpad++ drivers to enable gestures in Win 8. After installing PowerPlan and then Trackpad++, everything was working ok. I decided at this point, I would set a password for the account again. Once I did that, I was back to having keyboard problems again. When I finially was able to get in, I removed the password. Upon a reboot, the keyboard didn't work. I removed PowerPlan and Trackpad++, still didn't work. I uninstalled Dropbox...still didn't work. I disabled all 3rd party startup applications, and it still didn't work. I got fed up, and last night I wiped out Win 8 and reloaded Win 7. I'll wait until Apple officially supports it, and even after that, I'll give it some time before upgrading again.
I will note that when I upgraded to Win 8, I did not do a clean install. I didn't want to go through the hassle of reloading software and setting up the OS again. Maybe a clean install would have been better. I was at the point of frustration where I didn't even care to find out and I was just going to go back to Win 7.
Sorry that I'm no help. If you figure anything out, let me know. -

The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad
Hello,
in the console of my rMBP 13 mid 2014 I have a lot of messages of this type:
The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (1)
can please somebody give me some information what this message mean?
ThanksThere are 3 checks that can be performed initially:
- perform a NVRAM reset : About NVRAM and PRAM
- perform a SMC reset: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
- perform a Safe Boot : OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
- then reboot to normal
If the issue persists: run Diagnostics. Using Apple Diagnostics
and check if any codes come up : Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes

Internal Keyboard and Trackpad freezes in Yosemite 10.10.3
Dear all,
yesterday I upgraded my mid-2014 15" rMBP with NVIDIA graphics to Yosemite 10.10.3. Just now, the keyboard and trackpad became completely unresponsive right in the middle of work (no sleep mode or anything, also there was only the power-supply attached, no USB devices, external screens or anything).
I had to attach an external USB mouse to reboot the system, after that, trackpad and keyboard were working fine again. I did run a diagnostic check (by pressing "D" during boot-up), which told me everything is "OK".
Before the upgrade, I used 10.10.1 and 10.10.2 on the machine for quite some time without any problem.
Browsing through the syslog I found some concerning entries, such as
12.04.15 16:10:05,000 kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe0004051 - retrying
and
12.04.15 16:11:59,000 kernel[0]: [SendRawHCICommand] ### ERROR: EnqueueRequestForController failed (err=e00002d8)
I attached the full sys-log, in case there are any experts here.
Has anyone else noted that kind of behavior?
Cheers,
Kai

12.04.15 16:11:59,726 shutdown[757]: SHUTDOWN_TIME: 1428847919 726299Dear all,
yesterday I upgraded my mid-2014 15" rMBP with NVIDIA graphics to Yosemite 10.10.3.
Browsing through the syslog I found some concerning entries, such as
12.04.15 16:10:05,000 kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe0004051 - retrying
and
12.04.15 16:11:59,000 kernel[0]: [SendRawHCICommand] ### ERROR: EnqueueRequestForController failed (err=e00002d8)
I attached the full sys-log, in case there are any experts here.
Has anyone else noted that kind of behavior?
Cheers,
Kai

Eth0 is being up and down for several time during boot
My wicd doesn't connect to eth0 on the first attempt after boot up. It is configured to eth0 always have a higher priority to connect.
My dmesg shows that eth0 being up and down for several time during boot. I have e1000e in my MODULES list.
Here is my rc.conf

Any hint for tracing the root of this problem? Thank you very much!Hi ...
If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Try Safari.

Cisco Aironet 1262N stuck during boot process
I am banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why my AIR-AP1262N-A-K9 will not boot all the way. It will get all the way to initiating the interfaces and stop. I can never get to controlling the cli. This is my first time with a cisco ap but from everything that I read it seamed very easy.
This unit from what I understand will work all on its own with no controller. Hence it is called a "standalone" model. Yet it seems to be looking for something to finish during the boot. Below is the out put during boot. The last line is where it stops.
If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

After 10.6.2 update system halts during boot
After having installed the 10.6.2 update via software update my Mac halts during boot. It boots right up to the grey screening displaying the Apple logo and the grey status wheel but doesn't go on from there. It just keeps displaying that screen forever with the status wheel still moving but not hard disk activity anymore after a few minutes.
I've already tried (via booting from the Snow Leopard DVD), to no avail:
- repairing permissions
- repairing the drive
- resetting the SMCYou could try [these grey sceen, etc., troubleshooting steps|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570] ignoring any duplicaion of what you already have don. And, you could try [these general troubleshooting steps|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1394] again ignoring duplication.
If all above fails, then I suggest you do a repair install of Sno by installing Sno over Sno as in an upgrade install. Such an install, while usually very safe, still is an install so be appropriated backed up if you proceed. -
Equium P200-1IR - How to remove internal keyboard?
This notebook had soup spilled on the keyboard and now won't boot, even with a USB keyboard connected. I want to disconnect the internal keyboard, because it looks like that's what's causing the problem. (I have relevant experience.) But I can't see how to do that.
I've done web searches and looked at http://www.irisvista.com/ (mentioned in another thread) but not found anything that seems applicable to this model.> {quote:title=Syntax wrote:}{quote}

The first laptop keyboard replacement I did (not that I've done many) was guided by a technical manual downloaded from the IBM website. I suppose that's why I was optimistic. It was a few years ago and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that such manuals are no longer available from any manufacturer.
> Anyway, normally its not complicated to exchange the keyboard. As far as I know therefore you must remove the keyboard holder. You can do it with a thin tool

I will, thanks.
> But to be honest I doubt that your notebook would start after removing the keyboard but you can try it. In worst case you need professional help.
I'm actually an IT professional, though I don't have a lot of laptop hardware experience. I would normally turn away such work but this is for a relative.
> An authorized service provider can check all hardware components. :)
That could be worth it if they gave a free quotation, but the laptop is approaching three years old so not worth spending very much money on. -
When will Apple do REAL soft "international" keyboards on the iPhone?
Being a Swedish local, remembering the keynote with Steve Jobs making a big issue of using "soft keyboards" for international characters on the iPhone made my brain over-heat with disappointment when I finally got my iPhone 3G and entered "Swedish" under the keyboard settings hoping that a Swedish keyboard layout would appear on the iPhone's soft keyboard.
There is no Swedish (and possibly no other "international") keyboard on the iPhone although the settings are there. All there is is a possibility to enter "international" characters through an awkward point-hold-and-drag mechanism! These characters are being used all the time not only on those rare occations you need to spell out "Motörhead" correctly. What if you needed to click-hold-and-drag everytime you wanted to type an "a"?
Apple have had a few designs through the years that never should have left the office (remember the hockey puck mouse?) and this US-ASCII keyboard layout for "international" keyboards is one of the more ignorant ones - even more so since the facilities for making a proper layout is there.
(Another bug is the Map application assuming that the USA is the correct country for contacts in the address book where no country has been entered, instead of - for instance - using the country used for the keyboard settings as default country where none is explicitly entered or the country where the iPhone was activated?i send this to apple as feedback under under enhancement request in case anyone is bored of typing:
Hi,
I recently signed a contract with vodafone Greece for 46 € plan (one of the more expensive from the countries that the iPhone is available) in order to get an iPhone 3G 16GB for 430 € (also one of the highest prices of iPhone with a contract) only to find out that there is no Greek Keyboard. This is unacceptable. I don't care for which other countries you have made keyboard or not (although you make sure to rub it in my face) but the essence of the iphone is that it is a tool to have with you all the time and if the is no ability to right in your native language it is rendered useless. The think that is more frustrating is that those who bought the iPhone from abroad (at 1/4 of the price) and jailbroke it have a Greek keyboard, made by Greek hackers/programmers.
Today comes, as i am told the 2.1 firmware update and i sincerely hope that ithas the Greek keyboard in it otherwise my (and many other i spoke with that bought the iPhone due to its features and not due to the Apple brand) loyalty to the Apple brand (which is already in bad shape due to the Greek retailer Rainbow) is going to be in jeopardy.
please fix this
thank you -
K8N Neo 2 Platinum -- Hanging during boot --RESOLVED--
Heres the problem...
My system will hang during boot at anytime, from bios initalization to full windows boot (No BSOD ever and where the pc hangs in the boot proccess is totally random). And the only way to get past the hang is do a soft reset. I have to restart my system up to 3 times before I get a good boot, but once the pc is up and running, it stay running till I shut it down. (no hangs)
Now if I shut it down after the system has been running for a while, the pc will restart normally without any hangs. The hangs only occur after the pc has been down for a time.
I have reseated all the connectors, the memory (even tried different slots), add-in cards, cpu.
I have a clean install of Windows XP Pro (hard drives have been repartitioned and reformatted as NTFS)
All fans are spinning up fine, all temps are within norm, power supply voltages are within norm.
No phsysical signs of bad caps on the system board.
I ran ran Memtest86 for 18 hours striaght with no errors.
Ran CPU stress test with no problems.
No IRQ,DMA,etc conflicts found.
Windows records no errors during a freeze and I have checked for unwanted services/proccess as well.
I have tried min install to no avail.
Bois is retaining its settings (so bios battery is good)
I do not over clock anything. Bios is set to discover all important setting automaticly. (Bios setting are the same now as they were 6 months ago)
I am down to a possible cold solder joint on the system board?
This problem started to occur about a month ago.
If someone has seen this exact problem and has a resolution, well I would appreciate it if you passed along your knowladge
I am down to my last option of RMAing my system board. No. I have not replaced any components due to the fact I don't have extras lieing around nor can I spend the money just to troubleshoot :(

Ok I won't go into all the details of why I missed this but it turns out the northbridge heatsink fan had stopped spinning and thus the hangs during boot due to overheating (hhmmm, when I step back and look at this the symptoms point right to overheating).
This also expains why after several attempts at booting up, once the pc was up it would run like a champ. The chip would of course overheat and cause random freezes. Now due to the placement of the chip and the design of the heatsink once there was enough airflow over the heatsink the chip would remain cool enough to prevent further freezing of the system.
What helped to facilitate this is that I have a ducted fan system installed in the bottom of my case which directs a substantal amount of fresh air to the pci slots, the chip set and the AGI slot as well.
So what have we learned class?
1. check the obvious
2. do a complete physical inspection of your system

Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the motherboard) such as DDR voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better system stability.
Example: Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V, 3-4-4-8, CL=3.
For more information about specification of high performance memory modules, please check with your Memory Manufactures for more details.
Manually adjust your ram voltage to 2.65 volts and then manually adjust your ram timings to 3-4-4-8-2T.
If that does not work then do as Richard suggested and strip down to a bar-bone system, this is CPU+fan, 1 stick of ram (try other stick and different slots as one may be bad), graphic card and PS-2 keyboard, if it boots fine without any problems then add one device at a time until you find the problem.
Post back results as there are more things one can try but lets start with the simple stuff and work up. -
Loading modules for old kernel during boot up
Hello
After a kernel update I noticed this message during boot
Usage: modprobe [-v] [-V] [-C config-file] [-d <dirname> ] [-n] [-i] [-q] [-b] [-o <modname>] [ --dump-modversions ] <modname> [parameters...]

I am using 2.6.39 kernel.
Could anybody help me solve this??slytux wrote:
Samana, what does your error message say? Do you have anything in /lib/modules/2.6.39-ARCH/misc/ ?
You can also try rebuilding the initrd image as jni suggested.
mkinitcpio -p kernel26
I have no "misc" folder in 2.6.39-ARCH
The error is like a resonse from bad syntax when running a modprobe command
Usage: modprobe [-v] [-V] [-C config-file] [-d <dirname> ] [-n] [-i] [-q] [-b] [-o <modname>] [ --dump-modversions ] <modname> [parameters...]
modprobe -r [-n] [-i] [-v] <modulename> ...
modprobe -l -t <dirname> [ -a <modulename> ...]
I rebuilt the image and got a few errors in autodetect that might be a clue.

Note that the error does not show up when I boot in fallback mode. So it looks like the error has something to do with autodetect. But I have no idea what it is. I am going to try to get rid of the oldusbload and see what happens. [NOTE: Getting rid of oldusbload did n
ot fix the error]

Mac Mini keeps hanging during boot
My ~3 year old Mac Mini keeps freezing during booting with the error message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button...". This happens every time. Booting in safe mode works.
This happened with Mac OS X Tiger but keeps happening even after I have completely reformatted that hard disk and reinstalled Leopard from scratch. There are no external devices connected to the computer besides the monitor and a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
After reading some discussion forums I have already tried starting into Open Bootware and running "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" but to no avail.Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What you are suffering is a Kernel Panic, and given you have reformatted your drive and reinstalled MacOS, it would tend to suggest the issue is hardware related - most common culprit being RAM.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106227 explains what kernel panics are, and http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html and http://www.index-site.com/kernelpanic.html may give some assistance in working through the problem to determine the cause.
The one good thing is that your system appears sufficiently stable to allow you to boot to the Leopard installer and complete a full install. This makes it less likely there is a fundamental issue with the most expensive component of the system, the logic board. -
Q10 frozen during booting on Blackberry screen - is it dead?
HI i have my Q10 for more then one year and moreless except couple restarts or frozen situation was working fine. Today i have restarted it (due to not responding settings)and during booting in stuck on Blackberry screen and that all.
I found that more people have faces this situation but i have not found any exact solution.
I have tried to take out battery and sim form more then one hour and then start it again.. No success
It is charging on wall charger more then one hour, took out battery put back.. No success.
Tried to restart via poewer button couple times. No success.
I am quite furious now as I was strong blackberry fan and now seems that it let me down...
I have no idea what to do as i am not using Blackberry link, and If i am loosing my contacts or data I will be really considering my stay with BB for future.
Has anybody real solutiuon what to do please? ThanksHello,
It sounds like you have tried things close to this, but not quite this. Therefore, please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain directly connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB, not a cradle):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs. If it fails to help, then please retry but increase the wait time in step 4 to 2 hours, and perhaps as long as 4-5 hours.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem. Note carefully please that "new" and "know good" are not necessarily the same things. While rare, a "new" battery certainly could be defective. Rather, the simplest (and least costly, btw) method to conduct this test is to find someone with an identical BB who has no issues...trade batteries and see what happens.

Really? You ignored the fact that this computing device, like ALL of them, is prone to error and imperfection, and thereby chose not to conduct a backup via any of the FREE methods BB provides? And for this you blame BB? Backups, like insurance, are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.
A backup would be required in order to proceed via any other recovery methods. But, with the state your BB is in, there is little chance of taking such a backup now. So, if all else fails, I would recommend you reload your OS via AutoLoader and see if it can at least get your BB running again. Without that backup which you chose to never do, you of course will have to start over, taking the hard lesson of migrating from the latter to the former of this old saying:
There are two kinds of computing device users -- those who have lost data, and those who will
