Internal Keyboard Not Working Properly Macbook 7,1

Hi there, I have a macbook which I purchased on sale early 2011, version 7,1.
I was using it today and many applications opened and the machine froze, so I turned of the machine. On turning it back on it came on in safe mode and I was unable to use the keyboard properly, in the sense that everytime I pushed a key say an "R", a N would come up or even a number. the function keys stopped working also. The "mouse" pad on the computer worked fine. If I push buttons on it now, they do absolutely nothing but the tracking mouse works fine.
I rebooted it, but no difference. I have inserted a USB keyboard, and that works fine.
I have:
1. Tryed rebooting PRAM and SMC
2. Followed troubleshooting on the Mac website for keyboard problems
3. Installed Mac Mountain Lion and cleaned the hard drive and rebooted it with the new Mac Mountain Lion.
4. Ensured sound and the mouse pad are not turned on.
Again, the internal keyboard is not working properly.
I am unsure what to do. I have not spiled anything on the keypad and there has been no trauma.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am writing this using a Mac external USB keyboard.
I am thinking it might just be worth buying another Mac, but I have only had this for 21 months.
Any help would be apreciated.
Much thanks

Additionally to no sound available, I could only type capital letters. When I opened my MacBook Pro late 2008, I found the small cable loose, marked by the red arrow. Opened the safety mechanisem, inserted it again, closed the stirrup again, restart - everything fine again!  :-))
Hope it helps somebody else - I lost hours troubleshooting the software...

  • Aluminum Wireless Keyboard not working properly after Firmware update 1.1

    Hi,
Well, as the subject says, my keyboard is not working properly after I updated the firmware. The problem is that several keys (delete, down arrow, brackets and apostrophe) stopped working right after I installed the update. I never dropped it or hit it. And I did not stop or interrupt or did anything during the install. I take very good care of it.
I have already tried toubleshooting with the support page, restarting the iMac, taking off the batteries, setting it up with bluetooth again, going back a week with time machine and to reinstall the firmware. So, if you have something new for me to try, I will really apreciate it.
    Thanks in advance.
    Franco.

I have 24" iMac with the Apple wireless M&KB - I know this is basic but have you tried a fresh set of batteries? My KB will refuse to establish connection when batteries are on the weak side the firmware update may just be a co incidents. If your wireless mouse is working OK then I would guess the blue tooth is functioning.
Not sure about the 10.49 download - are your other file downloads completing properly? Are there any error messages?

  • Apple keyboard not working properly

I have had owned this wireless keyboard for over a year now. It has been working fine up into like 3 days ago when all of a sudden certain keys where not working properly. I disconnected the keyboard and tried pairing but it is not allowing for the pairing to go through. I also tried it on my ipad same keys where not working properly. Nothing was spilt on it. It just stop working right any suggestions

    Gabor-
Try resetting the iPad's network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will probably need to re-pair Bluetooth with your keyboard and reconnect your WiFi.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting doesn't hurt anything, and sometimes corrects mysterious problems.

Try the steps listed in this document from HP. It has the most common solutions and steps to isolate the issue.
It is possibly a hardware issue since an external microphone works without any issue, but let me know what happens with each step of the document as that will help determine if it is a hardware issue or not.
Also, let me know the results of the steps in the Using Windows Sound Recorder to test the microphone section. If this recorded file also exhibits the same behavior, then it is definitely not any third party software causing the issue.

  • Internal mic not working on macbook pro

    Hello,
A few days ago I was trying to use my macspeech dictate software on my new macbook pro for the first time, I had to plug in the mic it came with and it would not work. Now my internal mic will not work at all in any other programs. I made sure it was selected under system preferences but for some reason it does not pick up on any sounds. I have my computer all up to date with version 10.6.8. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
    Thank you

I doubt that the update did it, My daughter Macbook has it too and it is a general update of Yosemite. But, if you can backup your files you could go to the restore partition and reinstall Yosemite. The reinstall only installs the operating system and usually does not alter any of the other files. But having a backup is always a good idea. You can start by holding down Option or Option R at startup to do the reinstall.I cannot tell you that this will fix the internal mic problem as it could be that it is defective.

  • Macbook Air internal keyboard not working with windows 7

    Hello,
I have a macbook air 1.6ghz (1st gen) . I just installed windows 7 32bit on it and got the latest bootcamp. Everything else works perfect except the keyboard. Anyone have any drivers I could try ? I tried the external ones but I do not have an external keyboard so its not much use. Anyone have the internal driver for it ?
*i have tried bootcamp 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 and 3.2* The keyboard works perfectly on the mac side. I truly believe this is a driver issue because on the device manage under keyboards it has the driver listed as HID and under HID devices one of the keyboard drivers has a yellow exclamation mark.
I have also tried extracting the driver from the Apple drivers folder and running it that way.
    Thanks,

Did you install the Windows support software? Did you check in Windows sytem to see if the drivers are working? Check the Boot Camp help documnets http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ and visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

  • Macbook pro keYboard not working properlY

    Hello,
I suspect mY kids split a drink over mY macbook pro. MY keyboard has several issues:
-When I type lower case Y, I onlY get uppercase Y.
-When pressing the spacebar I get a space but its followed bY a closed square bracket.
-When pressing enter the function works but the forward slash character is displaYed.
Does this mean I need to replace the keYboard, if so how can I find the part number for the keyboard.
    Thanks for support

    MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Try an external keyboard to verify that the internal one is damaged.
If it needs to be replaced, take it to an Apple store or service facility.

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard not working with Macbook??

I copied this from a post on a reply earlier, but thought I'd start a new post and hope that someone has had a similar problem.
I have the new Apple wireless keyboard that doesn't work on my Macbook. Ironically, the only keys that do work are the top row. Screen brighten or dim, Dashboard, speaker volume control etc...
I've connected it and paired it successfully, but the keys just don't seem to work. (delete and arrow keys also work) After a while, my mighty mouse (wireless) start acting funny, or the track pad button on the laptop itself stops working. Shutting of the keyboard at this point doesn't help and I need to reboot the computer.
I've taken it to Fortune Tower in Bangkok where they have a apple support center and he couldn't get it to work on his 17" mac book pro either. He wanted me to leave it, but I took it back to the international departure terminal of the Bangkok international airport, (had to wait for another flight to China to do this) and returned it to the store where I bought it. But they wanted to see the problem and I showed them that it didn't work. Convinced, then then brought out a new one and I wanted to verify that IT worked but same exact problems.
I suggested that they connect it to another computer? Which they did, an Imac and it worked fine. Then they connected it to a Mac Book Pro, (15 inch) and it worked fine there as well.
Could this be a firmware update issue?
Anyone else having problems like this?
I just hope that this isn't a simple setting somewhere that I've overlooked... but I'll try anything at this point.
    thanks,

I have exactly the same problem! Macbook Pro 2GHz (so not a very recent one...), OS, firmware, etc updated to the latest. My Mac dealer proposed to do a clean installation of 10.5.2 - did not help. Apple Support told me to uninstall the keyboard and install it again (for more help they want money...) I did - same problem. Only function keys and cursor keys work. Funny thing - during pairing the code can be entered and recognized, but later no character cames through.
The keyboard is perfectly OK, since it works with my MacPro without any problems.
The mouse, on other hand, works nicely so far.
Maybe now will someone give us a wise advice?

  • 5tgb column on keyboard not working on Macbook Pro

I just had my logic board replaced.
First thing I did was to reinstall Mountain Lion on the computer which had an erased HDD and SSD combination.
While setting up the computer, I realized '5 t g b' column on the mounted keyboard is not responding (including the keyboard light dimming button - F5)
The discussions on the forums show similar cases but without solutions.
    I tried these:
    - PRAM reset
    - SMC reset
    - Erased the drive and installed Snow Leopard.
The buttons started functioning on their own after some hours. So I re-installed the Mountain Lion again, to see the same problem come up and then disappear after a few mins working in the voice over application to continue my setup.
The fact that the problem was on both versions of the OS seems to suggest it's a hardware failure. I looked at the back of the computer to see if something was loose, but all connections seemed fine.
Any ideas on what to do? or ideas on what may cause the problem?
(will visit the AASP in three days, but they asked me to not install anything else on the computer so they can check, which is delay on my work)

No the original warranty does not get voided if you replace either the RAM or the hard drive or both as long as you are not Removing the Optical drive and putting a second HDD in there.
Both of those parts. RAM and standard bay HDD, are User Upgradable and there is instruction to do so in the Manual.
What you have done with removing the Optical drive and putting a HDD or SSD in that bay is Modified the system with Parts that the User is not supposed to be replacing which VOIDS ALL WARRANTIES. Now as far as the AASP you had do the work on the logic board replacement it is up to them whether your 90 day warranty is voided or not and if the keyboard problem is part of that warranty.
    Good Luck and Best Wishes.

    Hi,
While this could be a hardware issue, it's always worth trying the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager, expand Keyboards, right click the entry 'Standard PS/2 Keyboard' and select Uninstall.
    Shutdown the notebook.
Then unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
    Regards,

  • Bluetooth connection on keyboard not working iMac/macbook

    Hi
I've just bought an iMac and have it connected to my macbook air using a thunderbolt connection.  Once connected I use cmd f2 to change the iMac screen to the screen on my macbook air.  Using the bluetooth settings on the MBA i can connect the wireless mouse (previously connected to the imac) and tried the same for the keyboard.  Although I managed to get it to pair yesterday I can't seem to get it to do it again today (guess yesterday was a fluke).
It will connect when the Imac is off or when the keyboard is disconnected on the imac - problem being that I need the keyboard to change the screen over to the MBA.
Any thoughts / something I'm missing?
ps I've got OSX 10.8.3 on imac and 10.7.5 on MAB if it matters - didn't yesterday

    hi all
by a stroke of luck i worked it out - turns out you have to switch the keyboard off, then when switching it on you have to keep your finger on the power button - the green light will flash until the connection is made.
works now, onlly wasted an hour two trying to get to this point.  nevermind
