Internal mic problem my doing?

I have a MacBook Pro, mid-2010 model, Snow Leopard, OS 10.6.8, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB memory 1067 MHz DDR3.
My problem is with my internal  microphone. I Skype once a week with my daughter and until 2 weeks ago, the internal micrtophone worked fine. I had an issue with the MagSafe connection, which was repaired by the folks at the Apple Store. After the repair, my internal microphone no longer worked with Skype. I discovered today I can use an external microphone to create sound for Skype and for Sound Studio, but when I choose Built-In Input, I get no sound for either program.
I would rather not drag an external microphone around every time I want to use either program.
Suggestions for a fix?
Thank you.

external microphone has to boosted up to "LINE" levels, so it requires an amplifier.
My bet is on they disconnected the wire when they made the prevoius repair. If that is the case, they can fix it "in the back" (static-free workstation) behind the genius bar.

I am sort of new to garage band. I recently got a macbook pro and was wanting to record some acoustic guitar through the internal mic. When I try to do so I encounter massive bad feedback from my mic and speakers. What am I doing wrong to make it inable to record music from the internal macbook mic?

  • Internal mic not working on macbook pro

    Hello,
A few days ago I was trying to use my macspeech dictate software on my new macbook pro for the first time, I had to plug in the mic it came with and it would not work. Now my internal mic will not work at all in any other programs. I made sure it was selected under system preferences but for some reason it does not pick up on any sounds. I have my computer all up to date with version 10.6.8. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
    Thank you

I doubt that the update did it, My daughter Macbook has it too and it is a general update of Yosemite. But, if you can backup your files you could go to the restore partition and reinstall Yosemite. The reinstall only installs the operating system and usually does not alter any of the other files. But having a backup is always a good idea. You can start by holding down Option or Option R at startup to do the reinstall.I cannot tell you that this will fix the internal mic problem as it could be that it is defective.

  • X220 Internal Mic not working

I had just get a new X220 in recent days.
And I found the internal mic not working, I can not record any sound through Sound Record or Skype.
I had tried all the following methods, but the mic still can not working. Anyone cound give me some suggestion ?
    1) update sound card driver to 8.32.23.2
    2) Fn+F6,  change between "only my voice" or "Multiple voice"
    4) UnInstall source card driver and use microsoft generic driver
    3) The method in http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-internal-mic-problem/td-p/435551/page/..., operate like :
Start -> control Panel -> Sound
    Click on the "Recording" tab
Click Internal Microphone to highlight it
    Click Properties
    Click the "Advanced" tab
    Uncheck "Enable audio enhancements"
Finally, click the "Levels" tab and turn Microphone Boost to 0dB. (if you don't do this the noise will be even louder than before).
    Click apply.

    hey kitewind,
welcome to the forums and since you have tested the microphone using microsoft generic drivers and i'm guessing it did not work; therefore the best action for you right now is to contact our tech support group via

Would like to hear from Y410 owners whose internal microphone works.

Phil_L thanks for taking the time.
Wish I could paste screen shots, but believe my settings agree with yours. Do not have "mixer tab", but do have all the rest, including most importantly all the settings.
Was (am still) hoping someone with Y410 internal mic working with Vista & Windows Recorder might respond because trying to figure out if my problem a factory defect or conflict with software: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro, OmniPage Pro 15.0, or Office 2K with Word 2002 (XP). They all run as XP SP2 compatible with no problems. Although Acro 7.0 causes Vista to stop Aero and restart automatically after exit from Acro 7.0.
One symptom which might be of interest to gurus is that when I rub my finger across the hole underneath is said to be lurking the internal mic, the gain bars in the Control Panel/Hardware & Sound/Sound/Manage Audio Devices/Recording - Microphone to light up. It seems as though Windows Recorder, Audacity etc just don't "activate" the internal mic.
    My regards, SanKey1

  • The T61 internal mic does not work when docked

The internal mic does not work when docked. However works fine when undocked.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I go this issue very recently. What I did to solve the problem was probably mentioned before somwehre over the web.
First of all, I degraded Skype from the latest version to skype 6.1.0.129. Then I went in Skype - Tools - Option - Advanced Settings - Automatic Updates and click "Turn off automatic updates" and Save. I closed (Quit Skype) Skype then.
I clicked on Start (in toolbar) and in search area typed Device Meneger. Then in Sound Video and game controlers, highlite and right click on mouse on IDT High Definition Audio Codec and press Unistall. This will unistall IDT drivers from the system. You must restart your computer.
Once you come back after reboot, you must go again to the Sound Video and game controlers and remove the rest part of your driver. After reboot go Sound Video and game controlers and click "Scan for hardware changes" then system find your IDT Sound Card again. Please install the latest driver (6.10.6367.0) and reboot. After reboot you should have mic working while on Skype.

  • CIT200 Internal mic does not work??

I am using the CIT200 under WIndows 7. It connects fine to Skype and drivers are installed OK. When I call, the internal mic does not work (phone's internal speaker is fine), but when I plug in a headset, the headset mic (and speaker) works just fine. Does this mean the internal mic is physically damaged, or is there anything I can do software vise to get it to work?

Hmmm, well never tried to make the CIT200 software on a Virtual PC, but you can give a try and check if that solves your problem or not.

  • Does he use of my internal mic degrade the performance of Dragon three dictate

Does using my internal microphone of my MacBook Pro 2008 degrade the performance of my new Dragon dictate three.? It seems to work fine.

I don't think it would degrade dragon dictate software. I've been using dragon naturally speaking for windows on my pc for several years and when I did not have my mic handy I would use the laptop's internal mic with no problems except for a little reduced accuracy. But everything would be back to normal once I switched back to my mic.

  • I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old sys parts

I have recently upgraded my iMac Intel G5 iSight (iMac5,1) to OS 10.6.8 and now the internal mic does not work with skype or facebook. I can here static when playing back clips. Do I need to update firmware or reload old system parts. I have zapped PRAM. The blue indicator in system audio panel will appear for a second as I slide the bar for internal mic but then it disappears. Is there a fix?

The sound seems very faint but can here static on playback.

  • Internal mic does not pick up voice

Hi everyone, I tried looking this question up but most people's problem was related to skype.
I noticed my internal mic was not working when I tried to record a video in photobooth and the only audio picked up was the inverted and dull clicking of keys. My voice was totally absent. I tried opening garage band like I saw suggested online and made sure the preferences was set to internal mic, nothing.
This problem definitely occurred after upgrading to OS mavericks by the way. What should I do?

I just got off the phone with Apply support and they told me that the jack is different on the iPhone 4, both from a hardware perspective and a software perspective. I guess any accessory cables you have that work on the 3G series of phones may or may not work on the 4. That *****.

  • Does Equium L40-156 supports internal mic

    Hi.
We have a laptop Equium L40-156.
We have problem with a microphon!
We can hear people who are calling us (by Skype) but they can't hear us.
Is it possible that we don't have a microphon inside a laptop?
Or is it something wrong with setting?Thak you

Did you check the microphone device in the Skype options?!
    What device was chosen?
In my opinion this notebook was not equipped with the internal mic. You will need an external one!

  • HP Probook 4530s - internal mic does not work when on messenger or skype, webcam does?

    HI there,
I have an HP Probook 4530s. When I go on MSN messenger or Skpye, the internal webcam works, but the internal mic doesn't. I can't hear them speaking either. However when I tested my internal mic outside of these two places it works perfectly fine - problems?!

You need to set it up in Skype preferences.

  • Inspiron 1525 not able to select internal mic for webcam, nor is it showing up on Control Panel, Sound, Audio Devices

Initial problem was Dell Webcam video recording records no sound.
In Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controllers there are two High Definition Audio Devices listed: Location 1 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is the internal mic; and Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is external microphone jack. Both have the same driver version.
The Control Panel, Sound, Recordings Tab showed 2 devices that looked identical except the bars that show green with volume were only on the first one, which is also the default one, and would detect sound if you got real close to the webcam mic when talking. Both devices displayed as 'working'.
Accessories, Sound Recorder recordings are silent no matter how close you get to internal webcam mic.
Dell WebCam Audio Source tab has two selections, both reading Microphone (3 - High Definition Audio Device). Both selections record sound with the EXTERNAL MIC jack. There is no way to select the internal webcam mic, it is not an option.
Per instructions found on the web, I uninstalled the first device only in Device Manager and rebooted. The same driver version as before was installed. But now the settings have changed. Device Mgr still shows Loc 1 and Loc 2. However, under the Sound, Recordings tab there are still 2 devices, but the first one says 'currently unavailable' , is still the default, and the sound bars that go green for audio testing are on the SECOND device now instead of the first one. If you check the Properties for each device, they BOTH are showing the same location Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus), i.e., the external mic jack.  Loc 1 device (built in mic) is not showing up!!
Accessories Sound Recorder works with the EXTERNAL mic. (How does it know which one to use, it's not giving me a choice?)
So the Location 1 device (internal mic) is not showing up anywhere besides the device manager. I want to use the internal mic for skype and webcam. Somehow I need to get the Loc 1 device to show up on the Sound - Recording tab and in the Webcam Audio Source list? What do I do?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    This is Vista.
Go to the Inspiron 1525 support page. Find the small blue "Change OS" and click on the arrow. Select Vista. Then download and install these 3 items with a restart between each one.
    1. Dell System Software in the System Utilities category.
    2. Intel Mobile Chipset in the Chipset category.
    3. Sigmatel audio driver in the Audio category.
See if it works any better after you get the Sigmatel driver installed.
